Aiming for 1lb per week

1lbperweek · 02/01/2021 11:25

Previously I’ve been disappointed at losing ‘only’ 1lb per week so have fallen off the wagon but really if I’d just accepted it and kept at it I’d be stones down by now. The science tells me it’s 1lb per week I should be losing on the calorie deficit I had but obviously I wanted more Grin

My plan for January is to ease myself in gently by just stopping the snacks. Then if I need to take more extreme measures in February I will. I’m not great at stopping at one biscuit or one packet of crisps so I think none is the best way forward.

But not until I start work again on Tuesday. I’ll weigh myself then for a starting weight.

Anyone who would like to join me in whichever method they choose is more than welcome!

@1lbperweek

Glad you’re all still here. Although I’d probably be quite happy twittering away to myself just because it helps keep me on track.

@GooseFat I’m blaming you for the small bar of choc I’ve just requested my husband bring home. I specifically asked for small because if the biggish bars are on offer for £1 and the small bars are 60p or whatever I can guarantee he’ll want to bring the big one. Then I’ll eat it all.

Keep at it Humph. Don’t let a few bad days throw you off track.

8lbs is amazing Squirt! Really fantastic well done. Once you break that mini-dinner habit you’ll wonder why you ever did it in the first place.

Because smiley faces, cheesey beans and fish fingers are the food of the gods Grin
wineymummy · 14/01/2021 20:17

I'm still here! No loss since yesterday but we had a takeaway curry for dinner last night (packing madly) and saved half for tonight so not the healthiest. I didn't have any carb with it tho so not too bad (though a curry without rice or naan is quite sad.) Moving tomorrow and the scales have been packed away so will have to see where I am in a few days time. Daily weighing working well for me, I'm motivated by either no loss to try harder, or a loss to keep going.
Oh the kids tea is the worst. My mum advised me when DD1 was little to avoid the habit of finishing off their leftovers. But I can't help it sometimes, when I'm knackered and hungry and trying to get through the hell time of tea, bath and bed, and there's a nice piece of pizza sitting there untouched... The pizza doesn't want to go in the bin! The pizza wants me to eat it!

GooseFat · 14/01/2021 22:01

I'm sorry @1lbperweek proud of you for going for the small bar though, it's the little changes like that which add up I think!

@SquirtleSquad it's so funny, I would never think 'oh I'll have dippers, waffles and beans for tea' but when I see it in my kids plates it seems so appetising!

@wineymummy I'm a serial weigher aswell, I know some people say not to but aslong as you're aware of the daily fluctuations your body can have then it's all good!

GooseFat · 14/01/2021 22:02

Oh and I forgot to mention I've been bad with food today, but I'm blaming it on DH having a day off work, it's completely knocked me off track! Not hopeful for a loss in tomorrow's weigh in Blush

Humphriescushion · 15/01/2021 06:15

So nothing really on the scales and trying to not get disheartened,
Last friday 65, this friday 64.8 so i really am taking it slowly. Going to stay positive since it is less and i also have not had a drink.
Good luck everyone.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 15/01/2021 08:59

Don't get disheartened!
Even 200g is a difference in the end. Plus it is not easy to lose when you are already in lower kg.

You are all amazing to read btw with the lovely tone of the thread

GooseFat · 15/01/2021 09:13

Morning all!

@Humphriescushion that's about half a pound though, that's great! (I had to google to find that out ha!) Did you know you need to be in a deficit of 3500 cals per week to lose 1lb?

Well weigh day has not went so well, 10stone 3.6lbs today. But I know I definitely have not eaten enough this week to put over 1lb on! And I actually thought my stomach looked the flattest it has all week this morning. Just going to trust the process and keep going Wink

1lbperweek · 15/01/2021 09:30

Try and not let the smaller losses get you down. They’re what adds up to the big losses. It’s so hard to keep going when you’re not getting 2/3lbs a week which is why I’ve always failed in the past. If you’ve not got stones and stones to lose it’s impossible to get that deficit you need without absolutely starving yourself.

I hope your move goes well today @wineymummy! You’ve got your bubbles to look forward to tonight.

@GooseFat I bet you’ll have a bigger loss next week though.

Had my chocolate last night. It was so good! Weighing in at 10.13.

Have a good Friday everyone. Thank goodness it’s the end of the homeschooling week!!!

SquirtleSquad · 15/01/2021 09:32

Honestly I'd count anything that isn't a gain as a win! You're all doing great!!!

Humphriescushion · 15/01/2021 10:45

Thanks everyone for the encouragement! Yes it is a loss so is good and as 1bs says they all add up!

SquirtleSquad · 15/01/2021 11:07

I find this visual helps too..

Aiming for 1lb per week
1lbperweek · 16/01/2021 10:03

That’s such a great visual Squirtle. I think it’s so easy to forget just how much a pound is.

Takeaway night here. Really cannot wait! Hope you all have a great Saturday.

Thanks @1lbperweek move day was exhausting. Two of our old neighbours turned up with treats for us throughout the morning, and then the movers packed our cool box with my lunch in, so I ended up eating Jaffa cakes, crisps, chocolate brownie and apple cake 😱 then totally caved and had pizza for dinner, plus bubbles. I've been really good since the 1st tho so I'll let it pass. Woke up early yesterday, hungover, couldn't find the kettle or the coffee, kids demanding breakfast....but stayed strong. Luckily DH had demolished all the treats by the end of the day so nothing to tempt me. It was lovely having a drink on Friday but I'm not sure the hangover was worth it, with 2 small kids awake by 6.30am. No idea where the scales are so no weighing for me for a few more days.
That visual of 1lb of fat is gross but so good! I need to remember that. I lose from my tummy easily but it will hang around on my arse and thighs forever.
Keep going everyone! I'm back on the cardboard box "squat and tone" regime today 💪

LJC1234 · 17/01/2021 17:26

Hi guys ! Just checking in

I managed 2 pounds off this week! I managed some long dog walks which I think has helped

@SquirtleSquad I love that visual

1lbperweek · 17/01/2021 18:51

Glad the move went well, if tiring. Definitely not a time to be worrying too much about your diet though with everything so up in the air. Moving is just so stressful.

Congratulations LJC. A fantastic loss!

I don’t weigh on a Sunday but seriously hoping for 10.13 tomorrow and Tuesday to keep me on track. I’m definitely eating much less than I have been in the last few months but I just barely leave the sofa between schooling and working, it’s terrible! We managed about three walks last week so will try and build on that this week.

SquirtleSquad · 18/01/2021 08:29

It's my weekly weigh in day, much smaller loss this week but really chuffed still. Guessing week 1s big loss was mostly water weight.

04/01/2021 - 15st 8lbs
11/01/2021 - 15st 1.5lbs
18/01/2021 - 14st 13lbs

Total loss: 9lbs
Goal weight needed for surgery: 14st
Weeks to go to lose weight: 7
Weight still to lose: 13lbs

GooseFat · 18/01/2021 09:21

Morning!

Well done @SquirtleSquad that's still a great loss.

I don't think I had a single vegetable all weekend (apart from on my pizza!) Blush My weekend seems to start on Friday afternoon and not finish until Monday morning just now! I've started tracking my food this morning to make sure I am within my calories and hopefully knowing I have had a good week will motivate me to stick to it at the weekend.

SquirtleSquad · 18/01/2021 09:36

@GooseFat I had pizza last night!! It's such a good food Grin I started with just half and a bowl of green beans and tender stem broccoli and ended up picking on the other half all evening and suddenly it was all gone BlushGrinWine

CaptainCallisto · 18/01/2021 09:44

Really disappointed after weighing myself this morning. I had a 2lb loss last week, that I was really chuffed with, but this week I've put on 5.5lbs! That's a net gain of 3.5lbs. Somewhat demoralising!

I'm trying to remind myself that it's likely hormones, or water retention or something, and I'll show a net loss next week, but it's very frustrating.

Trying to homeschool two children with SEN is making me desperately want to reach for the biscuits and this hasn't helped at all Sad

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/01/2021 09:50

@CaptainCallisto have you had alcohol or something quite salty? This happens to me after drinking. I weight on the furthrest day from drinking🙈

CaptainCallisto · 18/01/2021 10:07

I've not had any alcohol (I very rarely do anyway as it makes my anxiety worse), but we did have gammon for Sunday dinner yesterday. I'd not thought of the salt, thank you. I might weigh myself mid-week and see if it's come down a bit!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/01/2021 10:14

It will, honestly. You would have to eat a RIDICULOUS amount to out this on as an actual weight. So many things affect this. Hormones (holding water before period), some food, sleep. Have a green tea and see in few days. It's just a bad joke bodies play on us😁

1lbperweek · 18/01/2021 14:25

Well done on the losses everyone and Schrod is so right - there’s now way you could have gained all that so it will just be a fluctuation. I had the same last week but still a loss on official weigh day!

10.13 for me today. PRAYING it’s still the same tomorrow but I’ve just had a Big Mac Blush

OP posts:
SchrodingersImmigrant · 18/01/2021 16:10

And Big Mac is fine Grin
Just have a lighter dinner. I found that balancing things out helps me so much me than feeling bad. Obviously it has to be within some rational balancing. We can't go all day hungry to have a18inch pizza in the evening. But we can have lighter lunch to have normal sized pizza. If you see what I mean.

1lbperweek · 18/01/2021 17:44

That sounds like the perfect diet though, I could manage that Grin

No idea what we are even having for tea tonight but I’ll make sure I have a smaller portion than I normally would have.
