Aiming for 1lb per week

1lbperweek · 02/01/2021 11:25

Previously I’ve been disappointed at losing ‘only’ 1lb per week so have fallen off the wagon but really if I’d just accepted it and kept at it I’d be stones down by now. The science tells me it’s 1lb per week I should be losing on the calorie deficit I had but obviously I wanted more Grin

My plan for January is to ease myself in gently by just stopping the snacks. Then if I need to take more extreme measures in February I will. I’m not great at stopping at one biscuit or one packet of crisps so I think none is the best way forward.

But not until I start work again on Tuesday. I’ll weigh myself then for a starting weight.

Anyone who would like to join me in whichever method they choose is more than welcome!

😁 It takes away the "guilt" many prople mention. This is how I eat when I was slim and I am doing it now again and it seems to be working. Some days we all simply want a Big Mac (which btw has same amount if calories like pizza express Caesar salad... Without sticks).

1lbperweek · 19/01/2021 07:15

Yesssss 10.13 this morning so that’s me lost a pound this week and last. So pleased! The smaller goal is much easier to achieve and keeps the motivation up.

Will be having my trusty porridge at 9 then homemade (kind of, it’s a soup mix I’ll do in my soup maker) soup for lunch and not sure about tea yet.

In Feb I might drop to weighing once a week. Purely cos I can’t be bothered stripping off first thing every morning before I’ve even had a drink Grin

Good luck to anyone weighing today!

Good job!

Ha at stripping off. 😂 I never do, but I am now careful if I wear a jumper because that bastard is about half a kilo😂 Keep it up. You are all doing very well with the sensible approaches!

wineymummy · 20/01/2021 08:07

Well done on another pound 1lbperweek! Slow and steady wins the race.
Haha about stripping off! When it my turn to get up with the kids I'm always trying to get to bathroom without them so I can go to the loo, strip off and weigh myself before breakfast. Which usually involves the 4 year old following me in and demanding "WHAT ARE YOU DOING MUMMY?!" And then proceeding to remove all her clothes so she can have a go too. 🤦🏻‍♀️
Still haven't found the scales here. Pretty sure I'm still dropping because my tummy feels smaller. Hoping that when I finally find them I'll see a decent drop from last week. Ended up eating a sandwich and crisps at lunch yesterday but made up for it with courgetti bolognaise for dinner.

Labobo · 20/01/2021 08:15

I'm happy to join you. I've lost 15lb in 25 weeks which is very slow indeed but I haven't dieted in any way, No 'being good' at Christmas. No cutting out any food group or choosing the healthy option when (on the few times restrictions were lifted) we went on holiday or out for dinner.

I just eased right back on the food that trigger binge eating for me (mainly bread and other white flour products or processed sugar.) But not all the time. Just most week days.

I upped my exercise to four workouts and four to five walks a week which I now enjoy.

Planning on losing the second stone in the next six months. I'll be very happy if I can lose two stone without dieting at all, just keeping better track of what i'm eating and why I'm eating it.

Also, I've increased self-care treats like long baths, watching upbeat films, listening to my favourite songs etc, so if I'm stressed or annoyed by something I turn to them not food for comfort.

1lbperweek · 20/01/2021 09:24

Thanks! I’m beyond thrilled. A couple of you have mentioned feeling a bit slimmer and I do too which surely is just my imagination?! Maybe not though.

@SchrodingersImmigrant I can’t believe you don’t strip to weigh! Madness.

@wineymummy I hope you get a nice loss once you finally locate your scales.

@Labobo welcome welcome! I like the sound of your method and 15lbs in 25 weeks just shows how absolutely committed you are. Well done! The self care sounds really interesting because I am very much a food based treat type of person so if I could change that mindset to reward myself with other things it would really help.

I have two stone to lose to begin with as I’d like to get to 9 stone then see how I feel - if that takes a year of my life to do safely and in a way I can maintain then I’ll be happy.

wineymummy · 20/01/2021 09:37

Great work @lobobo, that's a great success without huge changes just by keeping at it. I love a bath and that's definitely my treat, if I'm sitting on the sofa in the evening it's so easy to reach for the chocolate but that's not gonna happen in the bath.
I can't imagine ever being 9st! I've been a size 14 my entire adult life apart from briefly fitting into a 12 after 3 months backpacking round South America on a shoestring budget. I'm still a 14 but keep finding myself buying a 16 "because it's a better fit across my boobs" etc... So my two goals are just to get back to a healthy BMI (72 kg or below) and be a comfortable 14. I'm quite a muscley build with broad shoulders etc ("I'm not fat I'm just big boned!"). If I got to size 12 I'd love it, but I'm not sure I'd keep the weight off long term, and certainly don't want to be on a diet for the test of my life!

1lbperweek · 20/01/2021 09:56

I really don’t want to diet forever but I need to accept that I can’t eat 4 tunnocks teacakes, a sharing bag of chocolate buttons and a tube of Pringles all in one day then similar the next and expect to be thin. Or healthy. I can’t imagine a life without those things but the amount I was eating was ridiculous!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 20/01/2021 10:47

I'm still a 14 but keep finding myself buying a 16 "because it's a better fit across my boobs" et

Don'tBlush I promised myself that I will never again buy any bigger clothes than 14 (after I get to it lol), no matter what reason. Because that's how that bloody denial went.
"I need bigger because my boobs"... "I need bigger so it fits like on that models, they apparently have size bigger clothes on". Worked my way up from 12-14 to 22 like thatBlush

CaptainCallisto · 20/01/2021 12:07

I also did similar - went from a 14 to a 20 by rationalising my need for the bigger size.

I've been thinking for ages that I want to start making my own clothes (at least some of them) but I don't want to make them in a 20 when I'm trying to lose.

My plan is to make myself some dresses and trousers, measured to fit me (so no need for a bigger size for extra boob room), when I reach my target weight, and not use stretch fabric. It's a lot easier to gain weight when you've got a stretchy waistband because you don't notice the small increases and then suddenly you've gained a stone but your trousers still fit. I'm hoping a proper fitted waist will make me think "oh, that skirt's getting a bit snug" and keep on top of things...

SchrodingersImmigrant · 20/01/2021 12:24

Absolutely! Some of my clothes stretched with me so it didn't really help with combating the denial. I like your plan and I am very envious of the ability to make your own dresses!

CaptainCallisto · 20/01/2021 12:55

I haven't done it for about twenty years - it may be a disaster! I'm going to start with some PJ's so it doesn't matter if I make a pig's ear of it!

SchrodingersImmigrant · 20/01/2021 13:02

Promise pics! 😁

Labobo · 20/01/2021 14:18

I'm still a 14 but keep finding myself buying a 16 "because it's a better fit across my boobs" etc

Been there, done that. Funny how the 16 is also a better fit across the doughball stomach and spreading hips, isn't it?

I agree. Don't do it. The discomfort of wriggling into size 14 jeans after they've been in the drier is a bit dispiriting but it's also an incentive. Focus on getting those jeans to be more comfortable and then work down from there.

GooseFat · 20/01/2021 16:12

Hi all, just checking in! I'm still here, just lurking in the background Blush my weight went back down to 10st2.4lbs this week, still haven't managed to get anything else off and feeling extra 'flabby' aswell! Just trusting in the process currently, and trying to bear in mind that I am weight training (and I'm definitely noticing muscle in places they weren't before) so that may account for not seeing a decrease in the scales. Breakfast today was porridge and latte, lunch was a lazy crisp roll Confused and tea will be veg lasagne with extra veg on the side ha! No one else in my house will eat the lasagne I've made so guess who's having veg lasagne for the next 4 nights Wink

wineymummy · 21/01/2021 08:19

@GooseFat if you're eating well and weight training then staying the same sounds about right. It'll all come good soon and I'm sure you'll see a drop next week. Either way you know you've eaten healthily which can't be a bad thing.
Well I finally found my scales, and 1 week since last weigh in I've dropped a kilo! (That's 2.2lb to you lot.) So pleased, I've had a couple of slips but generally stuck at my low carb booze free diet. I've definitely been more active than usual, DDs don't start nursery til next week so there's never a moment's rest and we're already decorating every evening. I hope I can continue losing and maybe end January another kg lighter. Thanks everyone for the tips about not sizing up to stay motivated, I'd never thought about that but now I have, I won't be able to buy a bigger size again, because you'll all be there in my ear shouting "don't do it! Slippery slope!"

SchrodingersImmigrant · 21/01/2021 08:54

Since I started losing weight I concluded that UK needs to move to metric system fully because I soend more time on converting units than on anything else😂😂

1lbperweek · 21/01/2021 09:43

Morning all! Another 1 off for me yesterday and it’s still off today so that’s 3lbs in total. Hopefully it’s still off by weigh day on Tuesday. I’ve decided a mini goal is half a stone by the first week in March.

It sounds like you’re doing well Goose. Got to love a non scale victory.

Well done on the loss Winey!

I’ve finished a bag of porridge oats for the first time ever. Usually I buy them with good intentions have porridge once or twice then throw almost a full bag away years later. I look forward to my porridge so much in the mornings.

CaptainCallisto · 21/01/2021 12:49

Both my boys have decided they love porridge, and I was getting so fed up of fannying about making three bowls or a big pan that I've started bunging it in the slow cooker before I go to bed. Game changer!

1lbperweek · 21/01/2021 14:50

@CaptainCallisto that’s interesting - I’ve just googled about slow cooker porridge and the recipe I read seemed to imply a bowl inside the slow cooker bowl/pot thing. Is that what you do or I have I misread it? Do you use your usual measurements of oats and milk? Thanks!

OP posts:
CaptainCallisto · 21/01/2021 15:13

www.slowcookerclub.com/slow-cooker-porridge/

This is the recipe I use. I don't put it in a separate bowl, but I do give the inside of the slow cooker bowl a quick wipe with butter so it doesn't stick. 250g of oats does a probably bigger than I ought to have bowl each for me, DH and both kids (one of whom is a bottomless pit). So much easier than before!

CaptainCallisto · 21/01/2021 15:17

Don't think my clicky link worked...

250g rolled oats
1.5 pints milk
2 pints water

I just lightly grease the inside of the bowl, bung everything in and stir it, then put it on low for 7-8 hours. It needs a good stir in the morning, but it's lovely and creamy!

1lbperweek · 21/01/2021 15:23

Fantastic thanks Captain - I’ll dig my slow cooker out and give that a try. It would make my life much easier because it’s time consuming on the hob!

Hi all, weighed and still the same! I know it has only been two weeks but this happened the last time i did slimming world as well - think my body has decided its not going to play ball! Is very disheartening. So am going to try the 5:2 for two weeks instead. I have done this before and did not enjoy it but think it may give me a kick start i need for motivation and then go back to slimming world.

Well done on the loses, winey, goose and 1lb and anyone else. Your success is keeping me trying!
And on another positive note have got to day 21 on dry January.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 22/01/2021 08:20

You know @Humphriescushion, it's always much more difficult when you are not overweight much.So don't stress it. Have you thought about making it 6:1? Not as brutal, but can help?
And nice 21 dry days!
