A weight loss thread with no boring diet info

Hi all
I really need to lose a total of about 4 stone.

I'm not keen on the usual weight loss type chats with methods and foods etc discussed in detail.

So I was trying to think how it could be more interesting.

This might be a crap idea but I know I do better when I have interesting things to do. Today I've done my workout, some drawing and keyboard practice. I've also read a couple of chapters of Women Who Kill (!) and watched The Crown, I'm on Season 2.

It was those things that made snacking on a boiled egg less of a shock 😂

So I was thinking, what about a support thread where we don't talk about the details of our methods, but just check in for support, and tell each other something interesting we've done that day, even just a film we've watched.

Is it a bonkers idea?

Like this idea. I’ve also got 3-4 stone to lose. Just staying accountable and confirming ‘I’ve had a good day’ or ‘I slipped up and ate XYZ’ or ‘I’m bored and want to snack’ - any sense of community is good. I don’t want to stick to any particular plan either - just eat less and move more!

sobsanta · 28/12/2020 22:47

I'm beginning my journey to lose 10 stone. A place where I'm not obsessing over food would be wonderful. What type of exercise did you do? I'm going for a brisk walk with the dog tomorrow to get out of the house but without being around others.

Honeyroar · 28/12/2020 22:47

Yes. Sometimes these threads where smug people list how they’ve starved themselves really don’t help!

Youngatheart00 · 28/12/2020 22:52

It was a mixed day for me. I got out for a decent walk (8000 steps) but did have the last of the Xmas ham and cheese with crackers for lunch! Also drank the best part of a bottle of wine this evening. But counting down to dry january now. The amount of calories I consume just in wine is shocking and I’m seemingly incapable of moderating so it’s better I cut out!

Eggsley · 28/12/2020 23:00

Count me in! I've lost 12lbs since May this year and had kept it off until fairly recently. I found intermittent fasting worked really well for me. I dread to think how much I've put on over this last month though, as I've definitely not been sticking to it. I'm starting again on 1st Jan with eating less, moving more and the intermittent fasting again.

As long as I've not put on too much weight in December, I think I've got about a stone and a half to lose to get to where I want to be, two stone would be perfect though. Ideally by about end of May/start of June I want to have lost 7-10lbs, that's my first goal.

I am also considering Dry January, which I've never done before as my birthday and wedding anniversary are both in Jan, but I feel like I've had waaaay too much Baileys and wine this year. Grin

Barmbraic · 28/12/2020 23:08

Hello all. I'm.just popping in so I can find you all again on 1st Jan when I've demolished all the temptations in the house. I want to lose a minimum of 1 stone, ideally 2, although given what I've eaten in the last few weeks it could be 3 Hmm.

DoubleTweenQueen · 28/12/2020 23:11

I need to lose about 2stone, but pre-menopausal so it's going to take a while. Any loss by the summer will be a positive for me. I am slowly cutting down on my favourite treats.
I broke a toe quite badly a week ago so stuck sitting too much but looking forward to getting out with the pup - she's part of the plan!
Am not going to cut anything out, just cut back as much as I can and not snack in the evenings. Have fruit instead of bicccies; have porridge in the morning; drink more water :)

AcornAutumn · 29/12/2020 03:41

Glad people are interested!

Double sorry about your toe.

Honey exactly, or even just long lists of the hows and whys...it's dull enough so I was trying to think of a way to make it less so.

Waking up in the middle of the night is common for me...tonight, no snacking!

Sounds good!

I’m getting back into things on 2nd Jan. I tried to yesterday but just felt a bit miserable with all the mince pies on the kitchen.

I have not done anything very interesting today though which I can share!!

PeggyMoo · 29/12/2020 04:19

@Youngatheart00 and @Eggsley I’m in a similar position with the wine and also a birthday and anniversary in January, so have decided to do 25 days dry and then just pick 6 days which to enjoy wine! I think dry January would set me up for a fall.

I think I am going to start clearing away the Christmas clutter tomorrow in anticipation of starting the diet in January

GwendolineWindowlene · 29/12/2020 04:35

Hello! I have about 4 stones to lose and would love to join you.
I finished The Thursday Murder Club yesterday (not sure that would necessarily help with weight loss but I enjoyed it).
I’m going to move more, aiming for half an hour a day. And eat less sugary stuff.

housemdwaswrong · 29/12/2020 04:45

I'm in too if that's okay? I have loads to lose, about 5/6 stone, but aiming to get down to a size 12 eventually rather than worry about weighing.

I'm recovering from a broken ankle, so taking it out tomorrow for a walk, see how it does. (I am aware that sounds as if I'm taking it on a lead!) Only a small break so should be fine.

I'm cutting out snacking and walking more....in January of course; I have to put on another half stone not to waste Christmas goodies. Cracking logic. :)

grapefruitish · 29/12/2020 04:57

I just started couch to 5k, my second 'run' is tomorrow. I did it years ago and ended up doing a few half marathons. It's funny to start again with the walk one minute, run one minute but I loved getting out in the beautiful fresh air. I have one stone of baby weight to loose, I'd love it gone by April. It should have been off a year ago but 2020. I've worked out some fitness and diet changes to fit my pandemic life so I'm just going to get on and get it done!

HereIgoagainagain · 29/12/2020 05:01

I'm in , boredom or obsessing is my downfall so concentrating on the other stuff should help.

One simple thing I am starting to think more about is how to be happier. Its what we all want but it can get lost at times in the day to day grind. Or maybe that's just me !

Anyway , I have 4 stone to lose , and we all know how to do it . One day at a time for now.

Movinghouse2015 · 29/12/2020 05:39

I would also love to lose four stone, ideally need to lose six!

I'm not thinking about food between Xmas and nee year, but I am trying to move more. I went for a brisk walk and then kept myself busy doing some jobs around the house.

I've booked a trip to the tip tomorrow to get rid of the Xmas rubbish/boxes. Also plan to get another walk in. Not particularly exciting activities, but it's keeping me busy.

PeggyMoo · 29/12/2020 08:08

It’s hard to have exciting activities in tier 4! A trip out to the tip is sometimes the most interesting thing you can do Grin

redfernsydney · 29/12/2020 08:14

Can I join in! at least one stone to lose. I have been pondering actually getting out of bed and exercising. .so I will do that now. Thanks. ...

IsoIsobaby20 · 29/12/2020 08:22

I'd like to join too. I use various methods anyway I have at least 1.5 stone to lose too and dry January should help!

DoubleTweenQueen · 29/12/2020 09:58

Good luck everyone! I think each of us will have a different approach and different things work for different people. I think it’s really important to not be too hard on ourselves or set goals that are too high and beat ourselves up for not hitting them. Any improvement in diet and lifestyle has to be a positive! If you have a ‘bad’ day, have a ‘good’ one tomorrow! Flowers

grapefruitish · 29/12/2020 10:14

On that note, I'm out for my 2nd c25k run... in the cold. 😬

DoubleTweenQueen · 29/12/2020 10:17

Come back and tell us how invigorated you feel!! I’m considering getting my bike out and doing a couple of laps...............

AThousandTimesYes · 29/12/2020 10:30

I have 4 stone of chunk to get rid of but I won't be starting til new year, i tried straight after Xmas but day 2 yday ended up with a Burger King Blush

DH is an enabler/sabvotager so I've made a deal if I don't mention diet til new year he will join me as he's a bit porky too Grin

GwendolineWindowlene · 29/12/2020 10:47

Definitely! We are all going to be losing weight by stealth, in a perfectly bright and breezy way. No obsessing or deprivation here, no siree.

The weather is lovely here today, I’m going to get out for a walk later and, if that doesn’t completely finish me off, I might embark on a rather large decorating project that I’m planning on doing but by bit.

DoubleTweenQueen · 29/12/2020 10:51

I wish MN had a 'like' button :) Enjoy every day, if at all possible, and value yourselves as much as possible too x

AcornAutumn · 29/12/2020 10:59

Welcome all, it's so nice to see I'm not alone in wanting this kind of thread.

Someone upthread asked me what kind of workouts I do. I mostly do
Jessica Smith. She has tons of free ones on YouTube including cardio and weights and fusion. I try to do a weights one at least twice a week, or that's my starting point. The rest will be cardio.

Insomnia does make things hard, in summer I tend to walk 4 miles after work nearly every day and that helps with sleep. But in this weather...ooh no. I'm so impressed by people who run in the cold but my asthma kicks off immediately.

I might go for a walk though...otherwise, more keyboard, drawing and perhaps watching a film today.
