A weight loss thread with no boring diet info

Hi all
I really need to lose a total of about 4 stone.

I'm not keen on the usual weight loss type chats with methods and foods etc discussed in detail.

So I was trying to think how it could be more interesting.

This might be a crap idea but I know I do better when I have interesting things to do. Today I've done my workout, some drawing and keyboard practice. I've also read a couple of chapters of Women Who Kill (!) and watched The Crown, I'm on Season 2.

It was those things that made snacking on a boiled egg less of a shock 😂

So I was thinking, what about a support thread where we don't talk about the details of our methods, but just check in for support, and tell each other something interesting we've done that day, even just a film we've watched.

Is it a bonkers idea?

I'm still in the lazy Christmas bubble of not doing much (any) exercise and eating too much!

However, I'm quite enjoying it so I'm not in too much of a rush to return to normality. My first start will be by making some delicious soup from the left over meat tomorrow.?

VexingVixen · 29/12/2020 19:52

Hello, please may I join? I've been lurking for a while and have stumbled across this thread, so joined up to join in! I haven't got a lot to lose, but if I continue with my unhealthy choices, I fear I will end up like my mum and grandma, who are constantly on some diet or another with not much success (it's almost like some weird competition between them to see who's failed the most?!)
I try to make healthy choices, but life gets in the way, coupled with inappetance from medication, I tend to grab the easy sugary options, so am eating less but weighing more!! Am hoping some friendly support will help me be more conscious about what I put in my face...
Started today with a bowl of porridge after mucking and turning out the horse and taking the dog for her morning constitutional in some pretty evil sleet showers! Kinda drifted off course in work, but DH made a nice lean lamb bhuna with extra veg in, so hopefully have redeemed myself!
Nice to meet you all, and wishing you all the best on your journeys Smile

This year my one of my resolution was to do park run xmas day.....obvs never happened. .and sadly I only managed couch to 1 mile. I am also looking to start c25k. but in the spring so I can do it early morning.

Have a good positive day everyone!

GwendolineWindowlene · 30/12/2020 07:28

Morning all. Bleurgh, another crappy night’s sleep waking at 3 for a couple of hours. Feel a bit fragile.

My positive thing for the day will be getting started on the decorating. I’m thinking that will be both rewarding and include some physical activity. Win win.

NatMoz · 30/12/2020 07:46

I was at my pretty much all time slimmest at the beginning of lockdown but then WFH and baking boredom happened.

I am too scared to weigh myself but I think I need to lose a stone.

It snowed here yesterday so I went for a 6 mile run while it was fresh but I already know I won't go running again until the snow and ice has gone because I will hurt myself.

On that basis I also went on a 5 mile walk in the afternoon.

Going for a snow walk today which is about a 7 mile loop (or 10 miles if we decide to visit the Highland cattle!)

From experience while I do a lot of exercise and therefore physically fit, because I eat like a pig I don't lose the weight!

NatMoz · 30/12/2020 07:53

Just weighed myself. Took a lot of courage. I need to lose 10lb

PollyDarton1 · 30/12/2020 08:58

Hi all. I have about 4-5 stone to lose. I lost 7 in 2013 and gained back 4.5 when I had my DS who is now 4 😂

I've signed up to Red January which promotes a portion of exercise each day. Food wise I'm just going to mirror my DH who eats fantastically (whilst I ate celebrations for breakfast). I'm going to try not to obsess over the calories as I find that is a recipe for disaster for me and instead focus on the exercise. I don't drink (MH meds) but I am a sweet and carb fiend and must get my weight under control.

Movinghouse2015 · 30/12/2020 09:55

Yesterday i completed my trip to the tip. That did mean I also had a slight de-clutter around the house.

I went for a short walk and then treated myself to some TV. I've bee
Missing the theatre so watched two musicals I've not seen before.

Also played monopoly with the kids, so kept my day busy.

Today the sun is shining,so planning a longer walk.

I am enjoying thinking of things I enjoy doing and making some me time.

Squidgywoo · 30/12/2020 10:24

Today’s plan: trip to Tesco (thrilling!) and then a dog walk followed this afternoon by a pamper session. I’ve managed to convince my two teenage boys to do pedicures and face masks with me!

HereIgoagainagain · 30/12/2020 10:36

Me too @Squidgywoo , Tesco is the closest thing I can get to a trip out in tier 4 .

I have studying to do today as well which should keep me busy.

The sun is shining which makes me smile Grin

AcornAutumn · 30/12/2020 10:38

Welcome along folks! So glad this has taken off.

Yesterday wasnt great - I was still awake at 2am and hungry. Oh dear.

Never mind, onwards. Today is a care visit to mum, who eats like a bird and never has enough of anything. So very unlikely to overeat today! 😂

I'm feeling my weights workout today.

When I get back from there, I'm going to watch a film I think, and do a proper 30 minute stretch, and play fun stuff on the keyboard. Some days I do that instead of a practice session. I'm a beginner - very much so - but my latest fun one is a very basic version of Singing in the Rain.

By now, you know I like to mix it up for distraction and fun...so here's a little video for your enjoyment...it starts with Singin in the Rain.. Wink

How is everyone doing ?

The news is not helping but I am clinging to the vaccine positivity !

Someone said something to me today that made me think....

What can you do today that will make future you feel better ?

I liked it so thought I would share. But twee and woo but I still liked it Grin

AcornAutumn · 30/12/2020 19:18

Here that's good because after a cold and boring day I was seriously tempted to make a creamy pasta sauce..

But now I shall put a healthy dinner on while I do some stretching. Thank you!

Hi. Can I join? I lost 2 stone between June and November, then got a bit bored with it. However, I managed not to put any of the weight on until Christmas. Not weighed in a week or so, but i can’t have put too much on, can I? 😀
Want to lose whatever I’ve put on plus another stone.
I run and do a bit of strength and yoga. DH and I are thinking of getting an exercise bike as well, will be good when it’s icy and snowy.
I’m trying to do more crochet in the evening, firstly because I enjoy it, but also it is difficult to eat and crochet at the same time.
Got quite a lot of chocolate and baking to eat tomorrow, then I plan to start on Friday.

HereIgoagainagain · 30/12/2020 19:23

I'm impressed, it did make me think about future me and how today's me is dissapointed in past me for various reasons and I would like future me to not feel like this.

I am also aware it sounds a wee bit bonkers !

GinnieHempstock · 30/12/2020 19:33

@HereIgoagainagain, maybe a wee bit bonkers but great way to think. 😀
I all too often try and forget the bad decisions past me made.

AcornAutumn · 30/12/2020 20:04

Crochet is one of those things i always meant to try.

I ditch the past. The future is coming after all. The little irises I planted on the balcony are poking their heads above the soil.

My uncle did strength training and yoga till his late 70s. Headstands and all. I think that's why he looks younger than he is.

He's really into yoga breathing exercises still - at 85. He has shown me a couple that are supposed to help with sleep but I find myself more awake as I try to concentrate on my breath...!

OP posts:
HereIgoagainagain · 30/12/2020 20:14

@AcornAutumn I used to do breathing exercises to help me sleep , my dh would listen to me and be asleep in a couple of minutes . I would then lie fuming at him and be more awake than ever !!

PaintTheFence · 30/12/2020 20:28

I made it out for a chilly but invigorating walk today.

My eating hasn't been great, but small steps.

GinnieHempstock · 30/12/2020 20:42

Your uncle sounds awesome @AcornAutumn. I’m afraid the yoga I do is very unimpressive, I’m not very bendy. Certainly no hand stands here.

I listen to audio books to help me sleep. Anything being read by Stephen Fry sends me off straight away. 😀

Well done on the walk @PaintTheFence, I haven’t braved it out today.

AcornAutumn · 30/12/2020 20:52

So glad it's not just me.

Now, do I need to record myself doing breathing exercises?!

Yes, uncle stayed in good shape for a really long time. Just a couple of years ago, he and his wife did a trip to see the Northern Lights and thought nothing of going out in a freezing boat for hours. I couldn't do that if you paid me.

As well as fitness goals, I'd like to be the hardy type, you know?

Small steps, same with me. Stacking up new habits gradually.

I looked at the ‘health’ app today on the iPhone for first time ever and my step count is SO low. I obviously really relied on actually going into work as you can see on a graph exactly when lock down happened - normally I would be walking to train station etc on commute.

I need to come up with some longer interesting walls but it is hard as I don’t live in the most picturesque part of London Grin

redfernsydney · 31/12/2020 07:30

@HereIgoagainagain. I don't think it's bonkers at all!
I quit drinking on 1st Nov. I got two bottles of sparkling stuff for Xmas. we drank one on xmas day..I was considering opening the other tonight, but I haven't drunk on nye for a few years now......The future me never thanks me! I like to wake up on nyd without a hangover.,set the tone for the rest of the year.

@PeggyMoo. maybe not picturesque. ...but historical maybe? I listen sometimes to robert elms on radio london and he does a section whereby people phone in "mysteries" around London to get answers from others. .its really interesting!

is your phone literally on you all the time though?

I wouldn't get worked up about those things. they are incredibly inaccurate. When I was in the office I had a thing about standing up and walking around every hour, could you do that?

I live in a very grim bit of town so I don't go out for walks in the cold either.

Today is intervals and weights!! I was really feeling the weights yesterday so tomorrow will be the same.

As it's NYE I am going to have a nice dinner though.

I wonder if Gwen or any other piano folk are reading. It is so hard to move from C to F.....any tips would be welcome!

today's random thing - maybe my taste is terrible, but if I were not so big, I'd buy this in grey. As it is, I would look like a grey whale if I tried it now!
