A weight loss thread with no boring diet info

Hi all
I really need to lose a total of about 4 stone.

I'm not keen on the usual weight loss type chats with methods and foods etc discussed in detail.

So I was trying to think how it could be more interesting.

This might be a crap idea but I know I do better when I have interesting things to do. Today I've done my workout, some drawing and keyboard practice. I've also read a couple of chapters of Women Who Kill (!) and watched The Crown, I'm on Season 2.

It was those things that made snacking on a boiled egg less of a shock 😂

So I was thinking, what about a support thread where we don't talk about the details of our methods, but just check in for support, and tell each other something interesting we've done that day, even just a film we've watched.

Is it a bonkers idea?

Not sure there's loads to see as such Acorn. It's a disused railway line with trees either side. But it has a certain quality- sort of like running through a tree arch - and there are stretches where you get more of an open view or come across something interesting like the old railway platform.

longestlurkerever · 27/03/2021 12:20

Mrs Bob by the way I meant to send commiserations re your awful week. I hope you have support with your DC xxxx

GwendolineWindowlene · 27/03/2021 15:35

For those of you in the Queens Wood neck of the woods, does that walk still exist that starts at Finsbury Park tube and goes right through to the woods at Muswell Hill? It’s a long time since I lived in London but I remember that being a nice walk, a disused railway line I think.
I’m very happy to carry on chatting. It’s the only place on the Internet where we can diet at such a slow pace! Grin It’s like a slow bicycle race but for eating. Grin

longestlurkerever · 27/03/2021 17:05

Yes! That's exactly where I do my running, Gwen, it's very close to me. I did the north stretch for the first time ever today, as part of a treasure trail thingy I was doing with the kids round Muswell hill/ally pally. There are loads of them though if your kids need some encouragement to go on a walk

Yes, I think I find people very "much ado about nothing". I was told it was a really amazing nature reserve. After your clarification, I think I was in the right place!

It's branding I think. I honestly thought I'd missed something when people started banging on about the "Thames Path" and was surprised to find it was just the walk along the river. I thought it might be like a path that had previously been attached to private homes or offices.

I actually wandered through some apparently private land in the Docklands once and only realised when I came to a gate. I was fine to walk back the way I'd been but a nice lady let me through, saying it happens all the time.

Just thought it worth asking about the thread with it being so quiet.

Yeah, Google asked me to "review parkland walk" with stars and I was a bit wtf it's a path, it serves the purpose of a path perfectly well but it's a bit harsh to judge it poorly for not being a 5 star day out.

AcornAutumn · 27/03/2021 22:33

Their own website really oversells it too

Sorry, didn't mean to link to that page in particular.

I feel disloyal now! It's a nice place for a walk/run. I'm glad it's there! Just not sure I'd advertise it as a reason to travel from overseas...

GwendolineWindowlene · 28/03/2021 08:48

Times have changed, it was a bit of a haven for flashers and dealers at the FP end when I last visited.

inkysplatter · 28/03/2021 11:24

They have not changed that much. Still a fair amount of willy waving on that path so I'm told.

inkysplatter · 28/03/2021 11:28

In hindsight I wish I'd opted for a different term to 'fair amount'

Also noooo we'll definitely need a new thread. You've already all been upgraded to the most prestigious area in my life, those I draft messages to in my head without actually sending them. Grin

longestlurkerever · 28/03/2021 12:01

It's heaving at the moment due to there being nothing else to do but go for a walk so tripping over small children and dogs biggest hazard. One more sleep till swimming though!

longestlurkerever · 28/03/2021 12:02

Right I am going to sort scales to get accurate picture. My clothes do feel slightly looser though.

Well, that makes me feel I did something good.

Inspired by another thread I have ordered some posh but not sweet soft drinks. Going to serve them in posh glasses and serve with olives and swan around being elegant and healthy. We won't mention the £20 hot nut shop haul.

AcornAutumn · 28/03/2021 21:10

long enjoy your swanning.

Right folks, I might not be around so much. Tbh I'm on MN a lot because there's little else to do but it doesn't do me much good and I don't want to turn this thread into one of my rants.

Perhaps I'll cheer up and find another North London ghost to talk about when I'm next on!

Ah, we will miss you Acorn. I hope you're finding something nice to do in the sunshine. I went swimming this morning! Sooooooo good. And just had lunch in the garden.

longestlurkerever · 30/03/2021 09:26

Absolutely glorious at the reservoir this morning. Like my soul is awakening from a deep sleep. Though cannot pin anyone down to take advantage of sunshine and new rules so have massive fomo, and kids are grouchy. Will just have to celebrate alone! Healthily!

MrsBobDylan · 31/03/2021 00:08

Sorry I've been a bit awol - I definitely love this thread and really enjoy hearing about everyone's lives, painting by numbers, mouse holes, reservoirs, ham concertinas...what's not to love?

My news is:

Broken finger will be splinted for another two weeks so I am able to swear finger and no one can stop me.

Room of requirement garden centre delivered 6 pallets and some rope twist concrete edging to me today. We are making a fence and paving the yard with mix of bricks and interesting pavers.

I bought an industrial metal trolley to make into a garden sofa. It arrived today and I think it will look awesome which is a relief.

I am sewing my poncho coat but it is tricky with the finger splint.

I have just done the last website coding session. I am going to wait until I get another attack of the geeks then I may try and teach myself enough to actually build a website. It is very bloody complicated and I'm not convinced I have the brain power.

Got a referral for youngest son for an ASD assessment. I am close to scoring an autistic hat trick! My sisters have been lovely and let me be sad and mopey but I feel ok now and sort of ready to crack on Grin

longestlurkerever · 31/03/2021 07:30

Your garden project sounds awesome Mrs Bob. Neighbour and I are going to do some work on our stolen railway land this weekend. I have no idea what, he's a professional landscape gardener so has the vision. I will be a grunt. Then we'll have drinks and marshmallows round a campfire to celebrate our hard work.

Otherwise no real plans for Easter. Will rustle up an egg hunt somewhere, we were going to attempt to make our own hit cross buns. Dd1 and I are going to check out Hampstead ponds and maybe take our inflatable canoe on the canal. Kids finish at lunchtime today but I am working tomorrow and 3 days next week. Feels like they've barely gone back

longestlurkerever · 31/03/2021 09:19

Well done also on finishing your course - amazing. My dds are enjoying coding at school and am wondering if they'd like to do a course or something over the Summer if I need childcare. I normally try and get them outdoors and away from screens but have only so many fucks to give at the moment.

I'm glad your sister is supportive re the dc and their diagnoses. Mine is awesome but has just moved to Scotland. Missing her muchly.

MrsBobDylan · 31/03/2021 13:24

Sorry that your sister has moved away Long - is there any chance of putting the children on a train so they can spend their holidays romping through the Scottish highlands? If she has kids you can return the favour when they are older teens and want to go clubbing in London Grin

My coding course has taught me how much I don't know and the scope of what there is to learn. I really wish I had been allowed to learn more practical things as a child, so I say sign your kids up to the course guilt-free!

longestlurkerever · 31/03/2021 14:17

Good plan Mrs Bob. Her kids are pre-schoolers at the moment but no doubt the clubbing stage will roll around soon enough! It would be great to be able to send kids unaccompanied on trains wouldn't it? You can on planes so I don't see why it should be impossible but I have checked their websites before a propos of shipping them off to grandmas and it's a non-starter. Will have to post them a la Flat Stanley.

GwendolineWindowlene · 01/04/2021 08:33

Morning all. Not much to contribute I’m afraid, it’s all a bit Groundhog Day here. Eating ok-ish, feeling generally a bit anxious and a bit meh.

I too am planning a garden. I’ve got a pretty good idea of what I’d like, but I’m going to enlist the help of a designer for some plans as we have a few different levels going on.
