Hello

Just where has August gone? People who joined the thread last month are reporting significant losses 👏👍🥇. In 4 short weeks I myself lost 9lbs.

Do you too want to lose weight? Feel fitter? Get healthier? Feel happier?

You’ve come to the right place!

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

Jump in 😊. You’ll be glad you did this time next month 😀.

Brilliant weight loss, well done! Im definitely in. Lost weight on January 2020 mumsnet thread (name change) and largely kept it off until now so definitely keen to join in!

Aiming for 10k steps daily and only eating 3 meals without snacking as that worked well last time. Main downfall is evening eating and fitting in time for exercise as my husband works away Sun - Fri and I've 2 small kids.

I'm not really overweight but my clothes are getting tight so I reckon I've about 10lbs - a stone to lose but will go by feel!

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 31/08/2020 10:24

Jumping in to say hello!

Thanks for the shiny new thread @TheRealHousewife

Start of this weight loss journey was 29/01/2020 at 233lb, BMI 35.4
Last weigh in in August put me at 220lb, BMI 33.4

Hoping this weeks Weigh On Wednesday (WOW) will show a loss.

MislaidMyBrain · 31/08/2020 11:03

I’m in please!

I’ve already started on a diet and have managed to kick the carb cravings by doing some strict low carbing for a few days. Its not really for me so I’ve now switched to more of a whole food approach.
I’m eating eating vegetables, fruit, pulses, some meat and fish and some brown rice and oats.
I’m doing some yoga every morning and walking every day.

rivierliedje · 31/08/2020 11:26

So far this morning I have dropped the cat to the vet and done the weekly shop, so early that the doors hadn't opened yet! It was brilliant, everything fully stocked and noone there! (and not taking up special hours for the vulnerable as they don't start until 9).
Just had some yoghurt and cornflakes this morning and working away now in the lovely sun.
Couch to 5k level 5 later and I have to call the electricity company because I accidentaly paid twice and would like my money back!

Jigglemonster · 31/08/2020 12:18

I'm in too please! I'm 212lbs and would like to get down to 165lbs by next summer, so just under 50lbs to lose which seems like an awful lot, though 30lbs of it is more recent baby weight so I'm hoping it comes off easier (wishful thinking)! Shorter term, I'd like to lose 21lbs by December.

Calorie counting using Noom at the moment and trying to do 10k steps a day and a couple of light exercise classes per week. Look forward to losing with you all!

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 31/08/2020 13:11

Welcome @Flowerpot868 @MislaidMyBrain and @Jigglemonster

@rivierliedje you've had a busy day already!

We popped to the local retail park for a bit of shopping, Costa was closed Angry so I didn't get my iced latte.

Managed to bigger up my shoulder somehow so decided to do day 1 of C25K instead of my couch to fitness video as not sure I can handle planks and throwing my arms up in the air today.

Very pleased with myself though as when I tried C25K a few months go I couldn't make it through the whole of the day 1 and I was fine if a bit out of puff today. I really need to find a firm hold plus size sports bra though as nearly gave myself black eyes Grin

Mana89 · 31/08/2020 13:24

I would like to join as well please! I've put on about 20 pounds in the last 5 years and it's crushed my confidence unfortunately. My birthday is at the very beginning of Nov so I'm hoping to lose 15 pounds by then. My ultimate goal is to hit 130 pounds again, where I am firmly in healthy BMI territory, by the end of the year.
My goals are HIIT x2, 45 minute walk x3 and Pilates x2 per week.

I have had some success with IF in the past but I don't find it sustainable in the long term so I'm wondering if I just go for 3 meals a day and try and cut back on my snacking instead.

@MislaidMyBrain - how many days did you do low carb for to stop the craving? I have massive issues with grazing on refind carbs when I'm bored or stressed so I'm interested in techniques to combat that!

MislaidMyBrain · 31/08/2020 14:02

@Mana89 3 days really strict got me to the stage where I don’t fancy crisps and toast any more.
I cooked some chicken and made a big Greek salad every day and every time I was hungry, I just ate the chicken and salad or nibbled on cheese, nuts and avocado.
I’m on day 6 now and have been happily eating soups and salads with veg, chicken and chickpeas/lentils.
Still no cravings even though the rest of the family have been eating toast potatoes, fancy crisps and crusty baguettes.
I know if I start eating them, I’ll be back to square one so I’m not even going to have a nibble.
So far so good! Fingers crossed I can keep this up.

MislaidMyBrain · 31/08/2020 14:14

@Mana89 oh just in case you feel the same - I felt crap for those 3 days. Ridiculous cravings, low energy and I got headaches and cold symptoms. After those 3 days, I felt more energetic and not so hungry any more. I’ve been eating ‘breakfast’ at 2pm as I’ve had no appetite earlier.
I just want to keep going like this. It’s like magic.

Galvantula · 31/08/2020 16:11

Place marking so I don't go to the August thread and get confused where everyone is :D

1st August:60.3 kg
31st August: 59.2 kg

Going in the right direction again :)

Thanks @TheRealHousewife :)

chutneypig · 31/08/2020 18:05

I’d love to join. I was doing very well with weight loss until Covid. I’ve put on perhaps half a stone which I would love to shift.

My problem is being at home. I normally work away in the week so have complete control, no temptation, but that went by the board for lockdown. My daughter took up baking. As of tomorrow I’ll be back at work every week so it’s time to focus. And not lose the plot at weekends!

I know low carb suits me well but having read up on Fast 800 I’m planning on pretty much what you’ve outlined @TheRealHousewife, so more focus on the Mediterranean diet.

I run a fair bit, so need to balance that up. I usually run fasted in the morning so think I’ll be OK.

worldweary45 · 31/08/2020 18:05

Can I join please

I've lost over 4st since the start of lockdown but I'm back at work tomorrow rather than working from home so need some accountability to make sure I don't ruin all my hard work so far

fallfallfall · 31/08/2020 18:15

Welcome to the new ones, i'll eventually read up.
I'm ending the month down 3.7 lbs so 148.3 this am.
now i've seen 148.3 at least 3 times in the last two weeks not been above 150 and fully expect to see 147 in the next 3 days.
my body fat % is down, muscle mass up, as well as body water and all three of those readings are within the normal range (as per my app)
now to keep focused on the weight and getting that into the normal bmi range.
Leslie has made noticeable difference! i picked up light hand weights last week (1lb) have my exercise band on order from amazon (should arrive wednesday) and went shopping for a top with built in bra.
the poor girls were not really enjoying the free flopping and bouncing, i even noticed a big bruise on one :(.

bellajay · 31/08/2020 18:22

I’d love to join in please, I started in May at 120.2kg and weighed in this morning at 108.1 so I’m down 12.1kg so far. I need as much motivation as possible really as it does get boring. I’m calorie counting using Noom (how are you finding it @Jigglemonster ?).

In August I’ve lost 3.2kg so I’d love to at least match that this month.

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 31/08/2020 18:35

I'd like to lurk also please!
Just checked my BMI and I am bordering on obese Blush
Would like to lose 2.5st before next June/July

SunshineCake · 31/08/2020 19:05

*@Galvantula I'm sure your dad enjoyed his walk and hopefully it will help him sleep well. Maybe approach helping your mum as a project and write out in black and white what time you have.

I've pretty much spent all day on the sofa feeling awful. I think it is because of some fresh bread I had last night that I thought was gluten free and wasn't but I can't believe it can wipe me out like this. I get the feeling sick and upset tummy but not how bread can make me unable to move from the sofa. So upset as dh is back at work tomorrow and ds2 is back at school on Thursday.

I haven't done any exercise today or yesterday to give my knee a proper rest. I hope I feel up to running tomorrow morning.

MrsJonesAndMe · 31/08/2020 19:53

Hi all, just checking in. Thanks @TheRealHousewife for setting the thread up.

Goal - maintain BMI in the healthy range, keep exercising, take meds and vits, try and plan/prepare for the winter months. Try and eat well to nourish (the hardest one of all)

Some fantastic losses already from some of the new faces.

And well done @fallfallfall and @Galvantula for getting the numbers down.

I'm not in a great frame of mind, but I'm keeping up the exercise, if nothing else, that really has become habit int he last year+ of being with you lot Flowers

fallfallfall · 31/08/2020 20:59

@MrsJonesAndMe I’m quite the healthy foodie is there something I can help you with? What one little tweek would you like to achieve?

TheRealHousewife · 31/08/2020 21:06

What a lovely flurry of new starters! Welcome!

@Flowerpot868 It’s good you’re on it before it’s on you.

@Mana89 I’m the same, if weight goes up my confidence goes down. You’ll soon reverse that trend.

@MislaidMyBrain Your eating plan sounds very similar to my own. I always do better lower carb. Helps balance blood sugars and prevents cravings.

@dexterslockedintheshedagain (loved Dexter the series 😬) Lurk, join in. Do whatever you need to do to support your lifestyle changes. My BMI was over 33 a couple of years ago ... I’ve reduced it to 25.2. Not much to lose now to get into a healthy BMI range. You’ll do it if you want to. Get in the right head space, remember why you’re doing it when reaching for chocolate/cake/alcohol (whatever you crave) and you’ll thank yourself for abstaining when the morning comes and the cravings gone.

@bellajay where are you getting meal ideas from. The Fast800 site and the Blood Sugar site by Dr Michael Mosley have some free content and great recipe ideas. The books are worth a look too. Never boring.

@worldweary45 Bloody well done on your loss ... your colleges won’t recognise you 😳. Tip ... be prepared and take your own food. You’ll know exactly what you’ve eaten and there won’t be no hidden calories creating in.

@chutneypig You can’t go far wrong with Fast800 5:2 Mediterranean type diets. Chock full of nutrient dense foods. You’ll make great progress.

@Jigglemonster Good plan! That’s half the battle, meal planning & being prepared. It lays the foundations and sets the tone.

@rivierliedje sounds a busy day ... how’s the cat?

@Galvantula great progress and congrats at joint the sub 60kg club 👍👏🥇.

@MrsJonesAndMe. Hope you’re ok. Sounds like you’re planning ahead which is always a benefit. Sending a hug ❤️

@SunshineCake Sorry to hear you’ve been ‘glutened’. It affects me the same if I accidentally ingest it. I feel shattered, bloated, headachy. The pits. Usually lasts a couple of days until it’s all out of my system. Wishing you a swift recovery.

@fallfallfall great monthly loss you got there 👍👏🥇

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 in my running days I used to double up and wear 2 bras . Saved me from alternating between wiping the floor and knocking myself out whilst pounding the streets 😬Well done on your progress. 👏👍🥇

Hoping I’ve not missed anyone out.

See you all tomorrow.

I'm in a different time zone that everyone else on here I suspect so I'll be posting at weird times!

@MislaidMyBrain OK, I'm starting today Smile! Going to stock up on some healthy food this morning.

@worldweary45 That's amazing! Congratulations Flowers

@fallfallfall Your weight sounds almost exactly that same as mine! The first goal I'm working towards is also to be in the 'healthy' range for BMI (currently 5'4" and 152-148lbs depending on the day).

TaraW20 · 31/08/2020 22:15

Hey everyone

Hope you dont mind me joining.

I have alot to lose. Aiming for 4 stone loss asap.

I've been doing one meal a day monday Friday so 23 hour fasting, and having what I want at weekends (maybe a bit too much what I want haha) I've lost 3 lbs in 2 weeks which is okay but not the best imo.

Anyone know any good YouTube videos for losing weight and exercise?

I had my dd 17 weeks ago today so time to shift this weight for our hopeful holiday next june

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 31/08/2020 22:29

Hi @TaraW20 I've been doing couch to fitness which is a free 9 week exercise programme. You do 3 workouts a week, 1 cardio, 1 core and 1 legs & bum. Getting progressively harder each week like couch 2 5k.

ourparks.org.uk/couch-to-fitness

I've just finished week 3 and really enjoying it. Managed to bugger up my shoulder this weekend though playing with DD so I'm going to do a week of c25k as it isn't as arm/shoulder intensive.

Mana89 · 31/08/2020 23:28

@TaraW20 My absolute favourite online workouts are from Fitness Blender. Lots of free YouTube videos and if you go to their website you can filter by type/intensity /equipment required. No music in the videos so you can put your own on!

fallfallfall · 01/09/2020 02:26

@Mana89, i'm in another time zone as well.
5'3" and have slowly come down from highs of 188 (slowly as in 5+ years) this year i had two set backs from two falls; with a resulting broken hand and both ankles. i've not seen the 140's in many many years.
i'm hoping slow and steady is the trick.

chutneypig · 01/09/2020 05:10

@TaraW20 I also like fitness blender as Mana89 said. Very flexible, which is a huge plus for me. I use Les Mills online demand service too, but that’s subscription. Very good though.

That sounds very painful and frustrating @fallfallfall. slow and steady sounds good

I’m going to start one of Adriene’s 30 days of yoga this month as well. Working from home didn’t help my posture at all. I’ve also got a new run training programme in mind, I’ve been drifting a bit over the summer and need some focus there.

64.1 kg this morning for me, higher than I’d have liked but probably not surprising after the weekend. Today will be a 800 calorie day - it’s an early start as I have to drive down to work but I find that’s actually a help with the fasting, it’s lunch before I know it.

Hope we all have a good start to the month..
