Hello

Just where has August gone? People who joined the thread last month are reporting significant losses 👏👍🥇. In 4 short weeks I myself lost 9lbs.

Do you too want to lose weight? Feel fitter? Get healthier? Feel happier?

Me personally? In the main it’s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and I’ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself 😬 I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

How do you plan to do it? What do you want to achieve? What excites you about your future self? Together, we can create a whole new you!

Jump in 😊. You’ll be glad you did this time next month 😀.

@HereIgoagainagain I don't take vitamins but only for the same reason I have an implant rather than the pill. I have a memory like a sieve and only ever remember to take the damn things for a couple of days before I forget I even have them.

I would think they would only benefit if your diet is actually deficient in anything. If you're having a wide range of fruit, veg, meat, fish and dairy (or alternatives to meat/fish/dairy) as well as spending a little time in the sun it's likely that you are getting what you need.

If you do a food diary you can use MFP free trial to get the premium features which give you an in-depth breakdown of all the vitamins, minerals etc which would help you to see over a week if there's anything you're missing.

HereIgoagainagain · 03/09/2020 09:42

Thank you @TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 my diet is pretty good (other than the mountain of snacks and bread) so I am hopefully not missing anything, was just thinking I might take it as a back up. I think it is because I have a stinky cold and want it gone so am clutching at straws probably Grin

MislaidMyBrain · 03/09/2020 10:04

@HereIgoagainagain I take floradix and vitamin d. We make lots of soups in winter and I swear that helps. Especially chicken soup. Lots of fresh air too.
I need to prep some more food today. It’s really handy having food already prepared in the fridge. I’m not sure what I fancy!
I’ve done my yoga and went for a walk.

MislaidMyBrain · 03/09/2020 10:06

@TheRealHousewife fast 800 seems to work really well. I really hope I can sustain this. I’m the kind of person that always falls off the wagon then can’t get back on.

TheRealHousewife · 03/09/2020 11:27

Good morning

What a pleasant surprise @TorysSuckRevokeArticle50! Lovely to be less than thought. I had a similar experience last year ... but the reverse 🥴.

@HereIgoagainagain I take b12, VitD (with magnesium & calcium to aid absorption) and an iron supplement. I take these on doctors advice after having had blood tests. The doctor told me the majority of the population is deficient in b12 & VitD and would benefit from supplementation. I also take omega 3 fish oil to help balance out omega6 and 9.

@MislaidMyBrain I’ve had the books a couple of years and often used recipes from them but it’s the first time I’m totally on it! It’s made a huge difference to me in getting my carbs from other other sources rather than bread, rice, pasta & potatoes etc.

@HereIgoagainagain I take a cheap multivits to cover all the bases, just in case. It’s a gummy type which agrees with me. I’ve tried other vits which had a tendency to sit like a rock and be very uncomfy.

fallfallfall · 03/09/2020 12:19

@TorysSuckRevokeArticle50, time to calibrate the scale or buy a new one. I couldn’t live with the inaccuracy.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 03/09/2020 12:30

@fallfallfall it's my birthday soon and I'm hoping for some amazon vouchers which may go on a fancy Bluetooth scale I think 😁

Hi everyone

Having my first sit down all day. Took DS2 back to school then had a long walk with my dog. Home to take DS1 to the shop then I've made vegetable soup, cooked cauliflower and broccoli and soon I'll make a cheese sauce, I've made mince pies using up last years mince meat and prepped potatoes for dinner. It feels like the start of more normality today and then Monday DD is back to school so that will feel more real.

TaraW20 · 03/09/2020 13:54

Hey everyone hope your all having a good day.

Typical Scottish weather here.. app days no rain...its pouring. Hopefully get out later.

Tried the yoga with Adrienne total beginners. Bloody hell its harder than it looks. Not very calming more stressful but I hope I can stick to it and it gets easier if the pounds shift off.

Also done day 1 of couch to fitness.

DH working overtime tonight so tea will be a little later for us I'm doing one meal a day monday to friday so will be very ready for it.

Hows everyone else's day going?

Galvantula · 03/09/2020 14:46

I did actually WOW but didn't get round to checking in. I was 0.2kg up at 59.4. However I usually weigh most mornings and today had me down at 59kg/ just over 9st 4. :)

Kids getting on ok back at school so far.

Nothing else exciting going on, still trying to make my walks into work a little faster to use more energy.

You've been busy Sunshine, sounds like a lot of nice food!

@worldweary45 I have a similar issue with fitting in exercise. I work really early shifts so I can't really get up much earlier and if I did I'd probably wake everyone up.
However I know that a few years ago I did get into an exercise habit at home - which I did after the kids were in bed, so in theory it is doable if I get back into the habit. Also on my occasional later shifts I have plenty time while they are all at school, but it seems to be filled with tidying the house and fitting in random tasks.

I know that I am losing weight just by adjusting what I eat, but I do feel like I want to make some effort at getting physically fitter as well.

Foreverlexicon · 03/09/2020 15:14

I have been entirely awol and eating and drinking myself into a coma.

Horse comp didn’t go too well, I had to pull out as don’t think horse was right. Then hen do happened followed by a 2 day hangover and night shifts.

Finally dragging myself back on the wagon today. Horse is having physio tomorrow so probably won’t ride until after the weekend but planning to spend a good amount of time gyming it!

SunshineCake · 03/09/2020 16:03

I have been wondering how you are *@Foreverlexicon. Sorry the competition didn't go too well. Hope horsey is okay and you feel better soon.

I'm trying to work out when I can run now I have to leave at 7:50 to take DS2 to school. My last run was for an hour and I don't think that is going to be doable I feel I need to shower when home then take ds and dog on the school run before I walk her. Confused.

fallfallfall · 03/09/2020 16:44

@Foreverlexicon, sorry to hear about the horse, i hope physio helps. I’m sure your body’s glad the boozy bender is done and over with along with night shifts. The night shift premium really doesn’t make up for the havoc it plays on the body...if only I knew then what I know now.

Gordonsgrin · 03/09/2020 17:15

Hello, can I join?
You seem to be a lovely nurturing bunch! I have also joined the weight loss record thread. I am very very good at the weight loss bit, not so much the maintaining. Three years ago I had done my usual consistent gentle weight loss and was v happy with my body. Maintained for two years but over the last year put 3 stone back on, doh! I always swear I wound allow it to happen but here I am again.
Anyway, my rules (just for me, not trying to rule anyone else)

No eating standing up (stops me diving headlong into the cupboards and helps with rule 2)
No snacking
Eat within an 8 hour window
No wheat (this helps to cut out excessive cheese, butter, mayo, pastry consumption)
That’s me. 11.5 stone and trying to reach 9 stone by Christmas. Thanks for reading and hopefully supporting.......

SunshineCake · 03/09/2020 17:32

Welcome, *@Gordonsgrin. I'm impressed with your goal of 1.5 stone by Christmas. I hope you achieve it.

fallfallfall · 03/09/2020 17:35

@SunshineCake, I don’t know what the answer is when there is family life and commitments. I have none of the extras (or very little at this stage) and find it a challenge to do the 45 minutes 3 times a day I hope to fit in.

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 03/09/2020 17:43

Welcome @Gordonsgrin

@Foreverlexicon sorry to hear about your horse and hope that the physio helps! I fancy a boozy night out, but my idea of a boozy night involves dancing like a fool to cheesy music and I don't think we're allowed to do that now

@SunshineCake how bothered are you about looking good at the school gates? Would it be possible to either do the run, take DD then shower after school drop off, or get into your running gear, drop DD at school then do your run? I'm that parent who couldn't care less what the school mums say so regularly rock up to the gates in leggings and a hoodie with un-brushed hair or scraped back hair and an air of 'what the hell have I forgotten today' frantic ness, so I don't think any of the lovely mums have any expectations of me Grin

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 03/09/2020 18:44

I've been really good all week, went over my 1400 calories once - until today Blush
Made cupcakes (trying a new recipe) and have eaten two and licked the bowl. Quality control ....
But in the other hand I did walk the dogs 4 miles and moved my garden furniture from one end of the garden to another.
Weighing tomorrow, and taking measurements too. Fingers crossed!

TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 · 03/09/2020 19:02

@dexterslockedintheshedagain but was the recipe good, that's what matters!

My food for today has been.

B - latte
L - sugar snap peas, mushrooms, spring onions and baby corn all steamed with some wafer thin chicken cut into strips and a teeny bit of butter.
D - fresh egg tagliatelli with spring onions, green beans, a couple of rashers of pre-done crispy bacon and dried Parmesan.

S - pepperami

dexterslockedintheshedagain · 03/09/2020 19:33

These cakes are the moistest I've ever made! May need to make some more tomorrow. They were meant to be for my daughters lunchbox Grin

Trisolaris · 03/09/2020 19:33

I went for a (very short) run today. First since the holiday. Determined to get back under 60kg by the end of the week!

I’m inspired by some of you fabulous runners on here! Maybe next time I’ll burn off more than 133 cals (gotta start somewhere 🏃‍♀️)

SunshineCake · 03/09/2020 20:08

School gates not an issue, and never were to be honest, as I drop ds and go. I'm trying to fit in dropping ds, running, showering and being at the park to meet my friend to walk our dogs. Dh has just said he is getting up early tomorrow, at 6, so if he does I will too then I'll run, shower, school run and then be at the park in time. I may have to shorten the time I run for as on Tuesday I ran for an hour and that isn't going to work if I want to do it before the school run. I have thought I will need to run faster if I want to do at least 8km again and forget about running further unless it is a weekend.

MrsJonesAndMe · 03/09/2020 20:26

That is a dilemma @TorysSuckRevokeArticle50 Nice to know that you may be lighter. For the moment just go with the downward trend.

Both children back in school so walking more on school runs (so far) Next week will involve more driving due to logistics.

I did weigh yesterday 10.6kg down still, so maintaining OK.

Uhm, brain mush, so hope to catch up with you all properly tomorrow. So many new faces! Hello to you all!
