Hello my lovely losers and welcome to the April edition of lose 7lbs/3kg per month!

Previous thread here :) Lose 7lbs/3kg a month - The March Thread http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3835693-lose-7lbs-3kg-a-month-the-march-thread

All are welcome regardless of how much you want to lose or what method you are following.

All I ask for is the amazing support and positivity I see every month from this absolutely amazing little corner of mumsnet.

Obviously things are going to be a bit weird this month. If your goal is just to maintain then that's absolutely fine. Stick with us, share your plans, recipes, hopes and achievements. Share your good days and your down days. Chat is not limited to just dieting and food. You regulars have kept me going this last few weeks!!

Anyway, enough mushy stuff! See you all tomorrow for start of the month weigh in!!!

Much love and stay safe! ❤️❤️

Well done @HundredYearOldMan and @MsTSwift. Great results.

JessJonesJumps · 28/04/2020 14:48

Well done everyone!
I seem to have put on 2lbs but I think it must be TOTM related. However I did go back to my yoga workout today in case Jumpin' Joe is secretly slipping calories into his workouts Grin
I had a mini omelette this morning. Home-made chicken soup for lunch. Salmon defrosting for dinner.
Fingers crossed my random 2lbs disappears by the end of the month.

Tryingtwo · 28/04/2020 19:40

Congrats on reaching your target OneHundredYearOldMan, I'm still 0.8 lb from reaching my target of 5lb this month but the way I'm yoyoing atm I might reach it but I might not 🤷‍♀️

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 28/04/2020 21:08

Hi everyone. I have been lurking a bit on this thread, but not managed to get the courage to post before. I have gained almost about 2 dress sizes the last two years, but sort of managed to not to really pay attention to it. At the moment I barely fit in my clothes.

I was hoping that making small efforts, reduce snacking and doing a bit extra Pilates at home and walk a bit longer would help me to slowly go down at least one dress size. I don’t think I could do without the evening wine (or G&T) though.... I am facilitating distance learning for my three primary school aged children and it is driving me crazy.

Could I join as well...?

cricketmum84 · 28/04/2020 23:43

Late check in from me sorry! Busy few days with work again until it hopefully settles down again at the end of this week.

Weight is still the same as the start of April. Really must do better. Today was a skip for breakfast, really wanted to do mushrooms and tomatoes on sourdough toast but I was waiting for conference call to start for ages!! Then just had sourdough and hummous for lunch instead. Beige tea of vegan sausage roll with mushy peas. Sounds weird I know but I just really fancied pastry. And then I winge that I've not lost anything this week....

@MsTSwift and @HundredYearOldMan both done so so well 🥳

Welcome @MoreHippoThanPenguin I'm home schooling one yr6 and "attempting" to home school a yr10. Cant even imagine how I would cope with any more than that!!

@JessJonesJumps we tried yoga this morning. I think we lost more weight from laughing than any of the actual exercises 😂😂

Well done everyone - I'm so impressed with the ongoing motivation on this thread in these difficult times. I did my weigh this morning and have made it to 61.8kg - that's 9 stone 10. I started the month at 10 stone 1 so 5lb loss which I'm so delighted about. I'm taking it as my April final as I can't imagine much will change in the next 24 hours.
This also brings my overall weight loss to 30lb which seems unbelievable.

Welcome @MoreHippoThanPenguin - you've come to the right group. I'm home learning with a 4 and 7 year old as well as teaching online so I feel your pain. Since I started my weight loss journey I have been doing pilates which I feel has contributed enormously.

Onceuponatimethen · 29/04/2020 06:30

Big well done to everyone on their losses. We are really achieving so much.

Just weighed and my end weight for the month is 76.8 kg! Pretty pleased with that (lost over 10kg in total so far) and planning to keep going next month.

Have been run off my feet with kids school work and my work and dp has been very low at times this week, so haven’t been on much. Hoping for a better May!

Today I’m going to do the following

Breakfast- grapefruit and other fruit
Lunch - veg soup
Dinner - Will have to be burgers as that’s what we have

Onceuponatimethen · 29/04/2020 06:32

Forgot to say I twisted my ankle on a walk so Going slow with exercise but going to start joining in the kiddie workouts again tomorrow

JontyDoggle37 · 29/04/2020 07:58

Well done @morehippo on posting for the first time and welcome. If you can do it without giving up the booze great, but I found the major reason for my weight gain was how much I snacked when I drank alcohol (plus all the alcohol itself). I gave up booze for good 20 days ago, and I’ve had some emotional days since then when normally I’d reach for the wine, but actually I’ve realised I don’t need it. I am stronger than I give myself credit for.
@Onceuponatimethen bad luck on the ankle hope it’s better today.
Day 3 and my tiny loss yesterday has disappeared as I’m back up by 0.25lbs to 12st 7.25lbs. Lunch ended up being cheese and crackers though and I also had a terrible nights sleep so ended up having tea and toast at 3am to help me get back to sleep. Got up this morning and smashed out 30 minutes on the cross trainer and 20 minutes of weights though, so on track for today to be a good day.
B - egg and avocado on toast, bowl of berries (3 of my 7 a day)
L - broccoli and Stilton soup with fresh rolls
D - burgers with ? Not figured out the sides yet

Jollyholibobs · 29/04/2020 08:00

Great end to the month @ploughingthrough well done. Welcome @MoreHippoThanPenguin.

Daily weigh in slight drop but still 2lbs up in the month. It’s going the right way though and will be a positive start for May.
Today’s plan
B my usual porridge chia banana berries combo 272 calories
L salad and cannelloni beans + low cal Greek yoghurt + slice of homemade bread
D shaksuka with
Snacks watermelon and apple

Have a great day everyone.

MoreHippoThanPenguin · 29/04/2020 08:50

Hi Everyone, thank you so much for the welcome. I admire you all, so much dedication on this thread! And some amazing results.

My plan is to try to have a bit healthier food, no snacks, longer walks and try to replace my evening snacking with one snack, planned in advance (we have dinner with the children at 6/6.30 and don’t go to bed until about 10pm, so I end up snacking on lots of junk).

Anyone has any ideas for a healthy evening snack?

I managed to walk longer this morning, 12,440 steps by getting up at 6.15 and walk faster.

My plan for the day:

Breakfast: only one piece of toast (with cheese, gherkins and cherry tomatoes).
Lunch: leftover chilli with boiled courgette. Dinner: roast pork with lots of vegetables.

Jonty, that is such a good point. I know you are right. Not ready to give up the booze yet Blush. I am struggling with supervising my three children. Especially my 7 year old needs constant help, my 9 year old has occasional breakdowns over his work and my 11 year old also need some daily help. Between this, the daily arguments between the children and the constant mess (I leave one room clean and tidy to go to next and the children enter and wrecks it), I am so ready for my evening drink these days Blush.

WhatALump · 29/04/2020 08:59

Hello everyone can I join in too? I’m generally more of a lurker and hardly post at all. Up to last summer I’d lost about 15 stone but in September my dad died and then I had a hernia operation that didn’t completely go to plan and I’ve been so depressed that I’ve gained back about 5 stone.
It was my birthday the other day and I gave myself a huge kick up the bum to pull myself together and get back on track.

JessJonesJumps · 29/04/2020 09:21

Welcome MoreHippo and WhatA Flowers You both sound super motivated!

I have somehow managed to put on 2.2lbs since Sun. I don't even know how that's possible. It means I have had a teeny tiny loss of less than 2lbs for the entire month! If only I'd stopped weighing on Sunday it would have been 4lbs loss! Grin

Here's hoping May goes better.

JessJonesJumps · 29/04/2020 09:22

cricket I'm glad you enjoyed the yoga! We laughed so much the first time too 😂

WhatALump · 29/04/2020 09:28

Does anyone do a lot of exercise now?

Ecci · 29/04/2020 09:57

@MoreHippoThanPenguin Welcome, a lovely lot here. Like you, we have dinner about 6ish. My evening snack is a few mini pretzels, I have between 4 and 10, depending on how greedy I'm feeling and eat them very slowly. Each one takes 4 bites!

crivit · 29/04/2020 10:10

At 66.9kg this morning. 200g up on yesterday (lowest for many years) but that's two days in a row under 67 so I'm happy 😊

Welcome to the new people!

Sounds like a mixed bag for us all at the moment so it's important to focus on the positive. For me a big one is having finished my first 30 days of yoga with Adriene. Have another 30 day programme lined up to start tomorrow and looking forward to it!

MotherOfDragonite · 29/04/2020 10:21

Welcome to @MoreHippoThanPenguin! I'm also suffering through home schooling a primary age child! In terms of a healthy evening snack I sometimes have a banana, or some Fage Total 0% yoghurt either with a tablespoon full of reduced sugar jam, or with sweet chilli sauce stirred through and lots of carrot and cucumber sticks to dip in.

Welcome also to @WhatALump! What an incredible weight loss success you have had, and well done you for getting back on track again now! This is a lovely friendly supportive group and has done me the world of good in terms of keeping me going.

Well done @Jollyholibobs for gettng back on track again for May!

Sorry you have twisted your ankle @Onceuponatimethen. Are you starting to feel better?

@ploughingthrough What a magnificent loss for April, and in general for your whole journey! Super well done! How far off your goal are you?

@JontyDoggle37 although exercise is great, I have still been losing weight since 15 March without having done any exercise! (I plan to get back on track again when we are allowed out and presumably I will need to tone up then, ha ha)

@cricketmum84 This is the Jack Monroe bean burger recipe that I am going to try soon and mentioned to you... I don't have kidney beans so will be trying with cannellini beans instead I think cookingonabootstrap.com/2019/11/01/carrot-kidney-bean-burger-recipe/

MotherOfDragonite · 29/04/2020 10:35

Just did my weekly weigh-in, and rather disappointingly I have only lost half a pound this week. I have been ever so good this week and secretly hoped for a bit more, but I guess my body was just getting happy at this weight.

Starting weight: 17 st 8.5 lb
Last week's weight: 15 st 13.5 lb
This week's weight: 15 st 13 lb (-0.5)
Lost so far: 23.5 lb
Still to lose: 49 lb

So I have lost 5.5 lb in April, which is a bit less than I had hoped but I'm still pleased it's gone in the right direction especially in these challenging times!

Tryingtwo · 29/04/2020 10:54

Good morning all and welcome to MoreHippoThanPenguin and WhatALump. Well done with the yoga crivit, I'm still at the thinking about it stage with regard to exercise apart from a daily walk - which is still more than I was doing pre-lockdown.
Ideas for evening snacks skinny popcorn (Metcalfe's sweet is 53 cals per small bag) wasabi peas (121 for 30g) Cadbury mini dairy milk (96 cal) blue riband (92 cal) or raw veg sticks.
Weigh in day - 11st 13lbs which is exactly on my 5lbs target for April (yay!) I need to be strict today and tomorrow so that I start May in the 11's.

cricketmum84 · 29/04/2020 11:55

Morning all.

Feeling a bit sorry for myself today as I'm pretty sure I've got shingles. Had this awful painful rash across my back and neck for a couple of weeks plus weird burning pain in my thigh. Going to try for a telephone appt at doctors after this conference call.

May need to have some chocolate today but just having some fruit for lunch and a veggie chilli and brown rice tonight so the chocolate would be my only points.

Loving seeing all the losses coming through. You guys are awesome!

Jollyholibobs · 29/04/2020 14:10

@MotherOfDragonite it’s a loss well done. Sometimes the hard work just takes a little longer than you think to show on the scales.

@Tryingtwo great April for you! Like the snacks ideas too.

@cricketmum84 bad luck if you have shingles. Poor you manage to get some GP advice and don’t let it derail your good work Re healthy eating.

Just finished my healthy lunch including only one slice of DH’s homemade bread. Back to a marathon of conference calls.

Egghead68 · 29/04/2020 14:20

Well done @HundredYearOldMan, @Ploughingthrough, @Onceuponatimethen and @MsTSwift as well as everyone else for KOKO in these circumstances.

Oh no @cricketmum84. Get well soon. I hope it’s not shingles. Chocolate is essential medicine for painful rashes.

HundredYearOldMan · 29/04/2020 14:39

Thanks everyone, and well done for all the losses/staying the same!

I’m having takeaway tonight which I’m a bit nervous about but I’ll just try not to eat a huge portion and see how it goes next Tuesday on weigh in day!

JessJonesJumps · 29/04/2020 14:56

@cricketmum84 I hope it isn't shingles and you start to feel better soon Flowers
I had a massive bowl of pasta for lunch. Honestly home schooling whilst trying to work is driving me to carbs!
I took my end of month photos today and I could actually see differences in my stomach so thought I'd check my measurements. I've lost four inches in total this month, and 10.5 inches in total since I started in Jan. I think the yoga is helping with toning my stomach so I'm feeling motivated to keep it up.
