We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Great news Quandary! Meal prep (whether actually making it, or just planning what you will make) is so, so, so important for keeping on track. It's hard to make good choices on impulse.

This too will pass Quandary.

Keep posting here. You'll get through this.

Feeling thoroughly rubbish today.
Mainly because of a guy but I just feel really crap too.

Trying so so hard to not go and eat all of the ice cream in the freezer and put back on the 5lbs I’ve lost.

Why does food have to be my comfort?! 😂😂

Anyway, sorry to bring the tone down a bit! Great losses from everyone that’s posted recently! :)

Emotions can ruin the best will power 😞 can you do some exercise or burn a picture or find another way to take your mind away from food? You can do this 🏃

Hello all, I need to catch up reading the thread as I haven't been keeping up-this last week has been hectic with a poorly baby, house buying stuff etc

Had a bit of a shitty day tbh, a relative made a very hurtful joke in regards to my weight on Facebook. I won't put what as it might be outing but it was enough to leave me in tears and feeling like what's the point! I've been trying to make more of an effort with my appearance lately whilst trying to lose all this weight and I honestly feel like I shouldn't bother, I can't hide how hideous I am with makeup.

Sorry, pity party for 1 over here 😳 hope you all had a fabulous week, will be catching up with the thread now. Weigh in tomorrow, have stayed on plan for fingers are crossed for 2lbs off to get to my 1 stone lost goal Gin

Wow MrsS your relative ought to be ashamed of themselves. What a disgusting thing to do. You can (and are) lose weight, but they sound like their sense of decency is a no hoper. Angry

I'm sorry your relative did this they had no right at all.
Your weight is not who you are, you are almost at a stone, what is fantastic, so it is already changing. Sounds like your relatuve isn't a very nice person and i bet they can't change that as quickly as you can change your weight.

MrsS sounds like we've had similar weeks, for me it was when my mum was looking at old family wedding photos and announced oh look there's Broken when she was slim in a tone that cut like a knife. Ashamed to say I looked at the picture and said and there's you when you weren't rude, which was unkind as she is elderly and frail.

I am also looking forward to my weigh in and 2lbs off this week for my first stone milestone!! Remember you are doing this first and foremost for you, no one else!!

Being old doesn't give people a right to be rude Broken. Sorry about your relative Mrs S. People who need to put others down to feel good about themselves aren't worth the time of day.

Thank you so much everyone, what's confusing is my relative is usually so lovely, I think it was a bad joke that touched a nerve (due to previously discussed issues with awful mum!)

I weighed in and I'm the same as I was last week, so I'm a bit gutted not to get 1 stone off.

But I shall keep on keeping on and think positively 😊

Hi guys can I join? Using MFP and aiming for 1500 a day lost me 2lbs a week for two weeks but this week I'm down to only losing 1lb. And I want to eat ALL the chocolate! How do you guys deal with emotional eating? I've got so much to lose it feels like I'll never get there x

Hi Rainbow! Sounds like you've made a great start. A stone in a month is amazing!

Hello FatandSassy, welcome. One step at a time essentially, and keeping busy. I find if I spend too long sat around I migrate to the figurative biscuit barrel quite quickly. So I keep busy, head out and about as much as I can, and try not to buy my binge foods in the first place. New hobbies too, replacing the time you'd usually spend eating.

FatandSassy

Not buying the chocolate (or whatever) is my first barrier to emotional eating. If it's not there I cannot eat it.

Next, keep busy. I often take the dog for a walk and have some solitude listening to my audiobook in the evening.

Next, as I've progressed on my weight loss journey (I've lost 7 1/2 stone and am now healthy BMI) what I crave for emotional eating has become healthy. For example my biggest comfort food right now is a big mug of warm milk. Even better is protein powder in that to make it a warm yummy flavoured milk.

So 240ml of semi skimmed with a scoop of chocolate protein powder, heated in microwave and whizzed until bubbly in the blender. It's not unhealthy. It's a fair bit higher calorie than your average hot drink, so not something I'd have lots of. But it's "good" calories - protein, some filling carbs in the milk, tons of vitamins and minerals.

Plus feels indulgent and comforting - which is what you need when feeling like you need to consume a "reward".

Hi Rainbow,
Great start and what a good feeling that your trousers are getting too loose 👖👍

FatandSassy
Seeing as this isn't my first time on this journey. I still don't have a good answer. I think i am lazy and eat when i am angry at myself or hurt. So i try not to have it in the house or if i really need it i have to wait 15 mins theni can have a bit. We ill see how far this gets me though.

FATEdestiny
That's a great loss well done 👌

Welcome Rainbow. I'm pretty new here too

I try to remember that even normal people freaks emotionally eat occasionally. Of course not to the volume we have but I needed to learn to decide what is acceptable. My measurement is if I can accommodate it on my food plan without throwing the rest of the week out and if it fits into the day ok all the better.

Easier said than done though and I agree with others learning new habits / ways of dealing with the emotion that work for you is key.

@FATEdestiny, @HoneysuckIejasmine

Thanks for being so welcoming. I reweighed yesterday afternoon without my clothes on and turns out I'd lost 4lbs so that's been a good motivator for me. Only 7lbs so far but I'll take it!

Emotional eating is hard. It's always been my crutch but as you say it definitely helps to replace. We buy in "healthy" lower calorie snacks so even if I go over it's by a very small amount. I guess whatever it is it's going to be better than what I was eating before.

I'm managing to stay in or around 1500 cals a day so I'm not doing too badly I think.

What protein powder should we get? I always thought it was for weightlifters! We're taking vitamins every day and both my partner and I have a good 12-13 st to lose each so we're in this for the long haul.

Happy Chinese New Year ladies and thanks again for welcoming me Thanks

Hi Sassy

I don't know what your macro spilt is and how much protein you have a day but I have 90 or so grams of protein a day without the need for shakes.

Some people like protein supplements but I have to go for a neutral, non whey, no artificial sugar version to prevent any stomach upsets which means it is not cheap, but good quality. It is fine in shakes etc but give me a food over the shake happily. I'll only had protein back in when I am doing really long distance sport again.

hereforthelonghaul · 05/02/2019 10:37

add protein shakes back in

Protein powder isn't really going to aid weight loss, except maybe as a meal replacement if that's you're thing. I use it because I'm a runner and it's a good recovery drink after a long run.

I also use protein powder as a replacement for hot chocolate powder. It's more calories than hot choc (1 scoop of chocolate diet whey is around 90 cal to around 40 cal for diet hot choc), but the hot choc is "empty calories" whereas the protein powder is more biologically useful, for want of a better word.

I like the PhD Diet Whey and also the Decathlon ones, which are a lot cheaper.
