We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Thank you for being so welcoming everyone. Today I've gone for a walk at lunchtime. I've always thought I didn't have enough time, my stumbling block was always that I have to get changed and I didn't have enough time to do that so might as well not bother. So today I timed it. It took me 90seconds to be ready. That's all. As much as it's really obvious it only takes that long it's a complete revalation to me and the 'reason' I gave myself not to go has evaporated.

cricket it does seem a lot, but you're already 12% through your goal loss! Huge well done, just since Christmas!

Fat I'd echo fate here. Unless you are using it for athletic purposes (running, weight lifting), or as a meal replacement, it's really not needed. 1500 kcals sounds a perfect amount for steady loss.

Gotany welcome! Delegation is key! Are any of those 7 old enough to cook for themselves (11yo is when I started cooking for the family)? Or help meal plan? Sometimes it needs to be a family effort!

Black hi, welcome! Can you get on board with the "dechocs" one of the cancer charities are doing this month? Maybe don't buy it, then donate the money you would have spent on it? Gives you a secondary motivation to not eat it Smile Although everything in moderation, if you think your will power can cope.

Okay I’m out of my pity party!
I’ve managed to stay within the calories on MFP, and went to the gym yesterday.

I’m feeling it in my shoulders today!
Having a break tonight, and will be swimming tomorrow. Can’t wait!
Also kind of looking forward to weighing in tomorrow, hoping to see a few lbs loss 🤞🏻

That's so informative, thanks for that. I never knew what it was for or anything but always been interested.
We are looking to get going on the couch25k soon and I really do want to start running. Unfortunately my guy has just had a diagnosis of COPD and asthma at the doctors so kind of waiting for the weather to get a bit better as the cold air sets him right off. However that's not me. I need to build up to it then when I get going I'll let you all know so you can kick me up the butt!

How are you all?

Report
HoneysuckIejasmine · 05/02/2019 17:21

When I started C25k I did it just walking at different speeds. Will do it again in spring but jogging this time, now I'm fitter.

Morning all

On the exercise front, or the non exercise front I'm trying to increase my NEAT which is basically the amount of calories burnt when not exercising. I spend a lot of time not moving!

Report
categed · 06/02/2019 18:16

I am try to do 30 mins, or more, moderate exercise every day to boost my calorie burn. According to my fitbit i burn high 3000s low 4000s in calories daily. So even if it is 25% out i am still into 3000s off with only 800 in.
We will see what the scales say this week to see if it is working or not.

Help/advice please!

I’m really struggling with my mindset, as in exercising and the weight loss journey.

Basically I talk myself out of things. I still see myself as how I was so I decide I can’t do something when I probably could give it a good try. For example at Boot Camp I can do jumping jacks for 49 seconds but tonight at Clubbercise I didn’t do any of the jumping movements because I believe that I’m a elephant and will hurt and embarrass myself. Obviously this negative thinking affects my weight loss especially now as I’m approaching milestones I have in my head that it’s never going to happen.

What doesn’t help is I’m at that strange half a size phrase so I don’t fit into the smaller size but at the same time I look big in my clothes as they are baggy. Also at Boot Camp we had to do sit ups and I couldn’t do them as I have so much fat around my middle so I had to do half sit ups and that’s really pissed me off.

I don’t know how to get out of my own way and this self sabotage. I know I’ve lost weight and blah blah blah but I can’t see myself as I’m am now and do what I am now perfectly capable of doing. I’m really not good enough and still the biggest one. I’m 97lbs and still classed as obese which is ridiculous to me.

I’m trying to think about what I can do to get out my comfort zone to prove to myself that I can do this and shake the negative thoughts off.

Sorry if I sound ungrateful for where I am now but I know I need to get over this self image thing if I going to move forward, otherwise if when I do lose the weight I will end up back at square one.

Just read all that back and I sound totally pathetic, I need to sort myself out.

Report
Lizadork · 06/02/2019 21:42

You are not pathetic at all. You sound like you are working hard but just feeling a little worn/frustrated. Maybe take a little break to celebrate what you have achieved, like a new hair cut or tickets to a play. Spend a few days spoiling yourself x

@fezzesarecool
I think mindset is half the battle really. Can you think back to a time maybe when your journey began and if you were excited and optimistic about the changes you were making to become healthier? Maybe you could use that as motivation and get your mojo back.

I think i may have read your post wrong though at still being classed as obese at 97lbs which is only 7 stone ?

I forgot to update my weigh in on Monday.

Weight on Monday - 271.6

Weight lost 4.4lbs

Total loss so far 15.2lbs since starting

I think she means she's lost 97lbs. Fezzes I think zebra makes a good point. Maybe go back through the old threads and read your thoughts? You had a great mojo in the early days.

Also maybe go to a shop and pick up the clothes size you used to be. Try it on. Take pictures. And then every time you feel huge, look at that photo.

Thanks honey. I was confused there!

Fezzes - losing 97lbs is incredible

Taking a photo in clothes in your old size is a great idea. I'm definitely going to do this down the line.

Thanks everyone, I will be trying to use every trick in the book to get my head screwed on straight!

Yeah sorry I meant I’ve lost 97lbs. I’m currently 181lbs and at 5’4 I’m lower end othe lower end of obesity.

I think the other thing that’s not helping is that I’m not out and about as much recently, as with the weather and my youngest I have to keep him at home. Plus I’m getting to the point where my go to clothing shops the clothes don’t do my size but I can’t fit into the biggest sizes properly of the standard shops and I am going to have to start shopping in the standard shops and face my fear of trying those clothes on.

The exercise and diet I can do, it’s the mindset that is so hard.

Last night at Clubbercise I could see myself in the mirror and I just looked like a big lump, really awful.

The worse part is how I look now is how when I was at my biggest, is what I actually pretenyI looked like so it feels like nothing has changed. Apart for the fact that before I thought I looked like this and that was ok and now I do look like this I know it’s not good or healthy.

Another thing is, and this will sound bad. But my sister who I see every couple of months has never mention to me about my weight depsite dc actually dragging out the dumbbells in front of her. So I must look shit if she’s not mentioned it once to me. It just would have been nice as she’s always been good at looking after herself and she’s going to the gym a lot to lose her baby weight so we could have supported each other.

I know I can get over this but just struggling so much with it.

Fezzes sounds to me more like she has an issue with you losing weight. Some women are very competitive and don't want to be "the fat one" in the relationship. More common in friendship groups but perfectly possible in sibling relationships too.

HoneysuckIejasmine That had crossed my mind but I also don’t get it. In general I’m not like that and it’s such a shame to think my sister would be like that with me as this really isn’t a competition, it’s about being healthy.

I will feel better about all this soon, just having a good old self pity party! And as I well know that’s not going to change anything.

Koko as ever!

Weekly weigh in Wednesday but on a Thursday!

Hmm a gain of 2lbs... I have no idea how that has happened but I shan’t wallow in it. A small setback, but I’m ready to see the numbers drop again!

Start - 287
To lose - 70
Current weight 284
Total loss - 3

I’m off to the gym for a bit of cardio and then a little swim at 12. What’s everybody else up to today? :)

Hello all, I've been keeping track of how its going for you. fezze sorry you've got this current mindset, I remember looking in the mirror once at taekwondo and being horrified at who was looking back. But I looked again and realised I was doing the same movement and exercise as all those slimmer people with what was twice their effort.....just imagine if I put in that effort when I'm 8 stone lighter and could kick their butts Grin

cult glad you've drawn a line under the 2lb, that's a really helpful strategy.

zebra nice one, a whole stone gone!!

So I'm sitting here at 41+2 with nothing happening yet and am booked in for an induction from Saturday onwards. I was hoping it would go naturally but obviously my body isn't playing ball. On the plus side in a week I'll have lost at least 15lb in one go Grin

Sweat a whole lot today.
Did about 40 mins in the gym, and then a 20 min swim. Now I’m absolutely knackered and would like to sleep for the rest of the day 😂😂

Hope everyone else has a good one :)

Cult your new gym habit will be responsible for the gain. I gained about 4lbs after my parkrun and still do gain a bit. Had to swap my weigh in day!

moonlight been wondering how you are getting on. Well, hopefully! Overdue sucks though, so I'm told. Lots of "not had baby yet?" comments from everyone and their aunts.

Has anyone given blood while trying to lose weight?
I will be giving blood tomorrow and I am unsure what to eat afterwards and how long to leave it till I go swimming.

The phlebotomist will give you plenty of advice. I think they like you to remain at rest for about an hour afterwards. Some even sir you down with tea and a biscuit for 15 mins or so.
