We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Cult I've never found a fitness professional to be anything other than helpful and friendly. As they say, even going to the gym is more than the people still sat on the sofa, so you've already achieved something. They'll be keen to help you do more.

My cousin is a sports science university lecturer so he's my go to if I have fitness questions.

I've just jogged on the spot for 36 minutes continuously! Very pleased, I usually need a rest after about 15 minutes.

Can I join please? I lost 100lbs in 2016 but last year I got ill and had some major upsets in my life and I’ve piled 80lbs of it back on Blush. I know I eat my emotions but intensive exercise keeps my head in the game, so to speak. I’ve just been physically unable to do it. I went from running a marathon to struggling to walk up a fight of stairs due to what I thought was just a cold that has absolutely decimated my lungs.

I know I can do better.

Cultofpersonality · 26/01/2019 23:41

Thanks Honey!
Yes, I love that saying.

I’ve got some bits to work out in and I’ve cut the tags off now so I definitely have to go 😂

Hey, yes of course 90 everyone is welcome here!

Wowee, running a marathon! That sounds amazing. You’ll get there again though. You can and will do it :)

HoneysuckIejasmine · 26/01/2019 23:49

Hi 90, welcome! Well done on your achievements in the past - a marathon! 100lbs! So sorry to hear you've been ill - it really can mess you up. But you know you can do it, because you've done it before!

Lol Cult, the momentous occasion of cutting off the tags! Shock

Thank you so much for the warm welcome 😊 I'm in awe of how much some of you have lost!

Can I ask what everyone is doing to lose weight? Specific diet plan or just making better choices?

I'm low carbing which I've done successfully once before until a slice of cheesecake knocked me off plan and despite trying for months after to get back to losing weight I never lost another 1lb despite sticking to the plan.

So 2 years and 1 baby later I'm back on low carb with more to lose than ever, thankfully it seems to be going well and not being able to eat sugar has stopped my binges.

Hope everyone is well 😊

HoneysuckIejasmine · 27/01/2019 09:41

MrsS I'm using mfp. I'm a binge eater with portion control issues. I've tried things like slimming world in the past, and done well with it. But it didn't tackle my root issues of course, so I just regained it all again. This time, calorie counting, I am realising how much energy is in food. I mean, I knew chocolate was high Cal and celery low, but there's a lot of in between foods that I have been genuinely surprised by. I've had to make healthier swaps and reduce portions to keep within my allowance. It's been almost a year now so I'm pretty used to it. I had a thought the other day about "surely you wouldn't eat a whole dominos pizza in one go?!" Whereas before I'd easily polish off a large and sides by myself. If I eat too much now I feel really uncomfortable.

OP posts:
MrsScamander · 27/01/2019 10:08

Honey you sound very similar to me. I've been successful with SW briefly but wasn't in the right frame of mind and would starve myself the day of the weigh in in the hope of losing something and if I did I would treat myself to a whole (large) French baguette as a well done, before starting the cycle again.

I've binged and eaten in secret probably since I was about 11, it started with me being slightly chubbier than my siblings and my previously morbidly obese mum being terrified I would go the same way she did.

Unfortunately she didn't do anything the "right" way but singled me out, would weigh me every week and bully me if I didn't lose weight and reward me if I did. Cue horrible issues with food/self confidence/binging issues!

Sorry, went off on a bit of a tangent 😁

You sound like you've done so well, I've just started reading the first thread and it's so motivating seeing other people like me who are still here having changed their mindset and lost the weight. You seem like a lovely bunch, I wish I'd discovered the thread when it first started!

fezzesarecool · 27/01/2019 10:31

Forward planning here, I’m not well at the minute and although I’m hungry I can really manage to eat if you get what mean. So last night I had dinner and although I was hungry I didn’t finish it and this morning my throat is very sore and swollen so I can’t swallow properly.

Anyway so I’m doing some slim fast shakes and soups and Greek yogurts under I feel better and to keep my intake up.

But how do I get the binge urge under control once I feel better in a couple of days. I know I will be ravenous and be piling up the plate without thinking.

Or should I write the week off as maintenance, or damage control by calorie cycling this week.

Hefzi · 27/01/2019 10:41

Thanks so much for the welcome and the amazing inspiration! You've all spurred me on - thank you Flowers

I'm on BIWI's Bootcamp again at the moment - I'm another BED er, and though I have had some horrendous struggles not to binge since it started, but they've died down a lot this week. I know I have to go back to OA and have been putting it off for months Sad

I'm being religious with MFP this time - I feel quite smug when I get the five week prediction things. I am trying to focus on how great it's going to be to be able to walk up hill without puffing, and how easy it will be to get up and down from the floor (though I have arthritis following surgery, so maybe not!) and I find it mind boggling that I used to run Confused

MrsS I believe I am part of your mother's secret second family... I hear you absolutely.

Thanks again for the inspiration, guys!

Hefzi · 27/01/2019 10:43

X post with fezzes-sorry you're not well. Flowers I'd just do the best I could under the circumstances, and get back on track when you're recovered.

That said, I feel there are much better people to take nutr advice from than me...

fezzesarecool · 27/01/2019 11:05

Hefzi welcome and all advice welcomed! I think I said on the previous thread it is good to hear about the struggles and it’s fantastic that although you didn’t maintain you have restarted

sneezeandclench · 27/01/2019 13:42

Hello everyone, popping on to say that my weight has been very up and down this week with a gain of 6 pounds a few days ago and then I have lost it all plus another 4lb after peeing for England it feels like. My fluid retention is still all over the place it seems but hopefully it will settle down with my medication sorted.

I am starting to notice changes now in my ability to care for myself. I even managed to have a shower for the first time in months as I can stand up for longer periods of time now. I cannot tell you how nice and clean I felt after just having strip washes and washing my hair in the kitchen sink.

Sorry, I can't see who asked what we were all following to achieve our goals but I am calorie counting with Nutracheck and it has been a revelation to me as well. I am trying to cut my fat down to 50% of what I am allowed and I try not to eat anything with sugar in apart from fruit.

current weight - 33st 8lb
starting weight 36 stone
total loss - 2st 6lb

Quandary2018 · 27/01/2019 14:37

I’m using mfp and calorie counting- I am also prone to binges and emotional eating and was really unaware of how many calories were in things, I find it fascinating.
I do get the urge to binge or emotionally eat from time to time- more so at the moment as I’m stressed and tired with work- but other than a couple of slips I’ve been able to distract myself from eating with other things
I am also doing as much walking as I can plus extra cardio and weights where possible.
I did the new davina boxing dvd yesterday all the way through from start to finish and boy do I feel it today!

hereforthelonghaul · 27/01/2019 18:12

Hope you are feeling better today fezz

I use mfp. My calories are based on my TDEE though and not the stupid mfp allowance of 1200 cals so I have 1700 per day.

My diet is about 100 grams carbs, 100 grams protein and the rest fat. The satiety is great, I can eat an excellent variety of food and most of all its sustainable.

hereforthelonghaul · 27/01/2019 18:14

I've never once binged eating this way. I think it's because the balance works so well for me.

I grew up thinking fat was bad but it's actually a good long term burn energy source.

categed · 27/01/2019 23:57

Hi all, can i join please?
After 2 years of sticking my head in the sand and gaining weight i have started.
I want to lose 134lb and will be calorie counting. Unfortunately if i eat over 1000 cals a day i gain, regardless of exercise. So i will do 6-8 weeks at 800 cals then aim between 800-1000 with room to go over on days if i need. Exercise will mainly be walking, simple weights and exercise bike.
Picture is of me at heaviest, 2 years ago and yesterday. Lots of work to do.

Week 1
To lose 134lb
Lost. 0lb

LisaDV11 · 28/01/2019 14:51

I suppose I would be described as a bit of a lurker on this topic. Anyway not anymore. I’ve jumped in !!!
I have at least 6 stone to lose but can’t post my weight as I don’t own any weighing scales. I will endeavour to buy some soon. I am very much an emotional eater and due to what feels like constant battles with my two teenage wannabe gangsters I am ALWAYS eating. I can be eating chips and curry and my tears are dripping into it. Anyway it’s got to stop. They will eventually fly the nest and I’ll be left a crippled shut in. Well I’m not having it. Here we go.....

fezzesarecool · 28/01/2019 16:08

Welcome newbies! Glad that you’re joining us we can always do we more support and hearing about your journeys

HoneysuckIejasmine · 28/01/2019 17:00

MrsS I'm so sorry to hear that, what an incredibly dysfunctional way to handle it.

Fezzes feel better soon!

Hefzi I absolutely couldn't do a low carb bootcamp, so well done for that! I'm also very anal indeed about mfp. I have to be.

Sneeze glad you're seeing a positive impact already. We call that a NSV (non scale victory). They are awesome.

Here I really like the fitness chef on Instagram for dispelling this food demonisation and fad diet culture. He's really interesting.

Welcome cate. That's really frustrating about needing such a low calorie allowance but it sounds like you've got a good plan.

Welcome Lisa. Definitely get some scales asap - it's so important for a sense of achievement, IMO, to know accurately where you started. Take your measurements as well if you can - it's great to see them decreasing!

Horrible weekend here - toddler DD has a vomiting bug. She's been asleep most of today, we're now 15 hours without incident, so I'm hoping we're on the up now. Made all the worse by opportunistic DS grabbing her drink whilst she vomited and drinking it. Nightmare, as it was milk and he's got CMPA. So he's been throwing up today too. Ffs.

A few NSVs this weekend:

  1. measurements are down, even though scale isn't very much.
  2. I tried on a pair of wellies on a whim. They fit! Proper, full height wellies! I've not been able to fit wellies round my calves in 20 years! Thrilled is an understatement. (We do a lot of walking now, I am looking forward to puddle jumping with my kids!)

Going for a jog tonight with ndn. Haven't been running outside for ages so a bit apprehensive.

OP posts:
Cultofpersonality · 28/01/2019 20:27

Oh no Honey sorry your DD isn’t feeling great :(
Fab NSVs!
How was the jog?!

Nothing much to report today really. Still feeling like I’m doing okay. Kinda can’t wait to get to the gym now though. We’re supposed to have bad snow over the next day or so, and I’m really hoping it doesn’t cause too many problems and I’m not able to get to the gym to sign up! 😩

hereforthelonghaul · 28/01/2019 21:18

Great NSVs honey. Fab! Hope both your dcs are on the mend soon!

I haven't heard of the fitness chef. Will check it out!

MrsScamander · 28/01/2019 22:10

2lbs lost for me (Mondays are weigh in day) so 12lbs lost in total 😊

I've been trying to do 10,000 steps a day but the past week life has gotten in the way and I haven't always managed it.

I think today is the first day I've struggled. Barely slept last night as DD is teething so felt like I needed to eat all the food to get some energy.

To top it off DD was at a settling in session at nursery for 2 hours and I got called to pick her up after an hour. I ended up crying out of stress/tiredness/worry and just wanted to stuff my face full of chocolate.

Stress definitely is a trigger for binging for me. I did eat too much dark chocolate, so probably went over my carb allowance but it could have been worse.

Hoping for a better night's sleep and a fresh start tomorrow.

MrsScamander · 28/01/2019 22:11

Also Honey well done on the welly victory! I'm very jealous as my wellies no longer fit in my calfs 😭

Have fun splashing in muddy puddles with your kids 😁

categed · 28/01/2019 22:50

HoneysuckIejasmine thank you. Feels good to have started and already, after only 5 days, feeling les puffed and more enthusiastic. Hoping it gets my ibs under control again.

I hope your kids are better soon and you get a rest. Well done re the wellies 👍

Lizadork · 28/01/2019 23:24

I'd like to join too. I never lost the baby weight, just added to it instead.

Goal weight: 140 lbs
Lost to date: 7 lbs
