We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

I like hummus with carrot sticks or cucumber.
Greek yogurt with a few berries
Nuts
I even keep a stock of hard boiled eggs in my fridge and have it slices on crackers. Not everyone't hing I know
You need to find what works for you :)
I saw my dietician this week and she was telling me about the hunger gene which a lot of people have and basically your body doesn't recognise when you are full so you overeat, even true in children. Shall we blame this? lol

ringletsandtwiglets · 28/11/2019 09:18

Ooh, thanks for the suggestions!

And yes! We definitely have that gene... it's not just me being a greedy guts. Blush Grin

camrose · 30/11/2019 08:54

I went to hypnotherapist to help me to stop eating between meals. My weak moments were eating sweets in the car - I have a long daily commute to work.

It has worked! I no longer buy or eat sweets. I sometimes eat a banana mid afternoon because I don't get home from work until late.

My only disappointment is that I hoped I would loose weight from just that change but in reality it just stopped me putting on more weight. Loosing the weight from decades of eating sugary snacks will take a long time. .....

moonlight1705 · 01/12/2019 09:02

Interesting camrose I always wondered if hypnotherapy worked with this type of issue or not. I had it for a needle phobia and found it useful so perhaps will go back.

I've lost 1kg (2.2lb) this week which am quite pleased about. How have you all done?

ringletsandtwiglets · 01/12/2019 13:01

Well done, @moonlight1705! I’m 3kg down from last week, after stopping my near-constant snacking on crisps and chocolate. I’ve felt okay, though yesterday was more challenging.

How do people manage eating out without feeling pious ordering lettuce leaves while your friends have pizza and cheese and chips and pasta? Do you just go for what you fancy or do you hold back?

vickibee · 13/12/2019 10:58

So finally after two weeks of STS I have lost 1.5 Lb, it doesn't sound a lot but need to keep chipping away. Now 14 stone 10 Lb. One more pound to my 4 stone.
I definitely have slowed right down and clearly need to eat even less, going to work xmas 5 course dinner on Tuesday. It is so hard to choose melon over garlic mushrooms :(
How is everyone else getting on? Please post we have become a bit lazy of late

ringletsandtwiglets · 13/12/2019 12:06

Hi @vickibee, I’ve lost another kg, but it’s not coming off as quickly as I thought. I can see that my stomach is smaller, though, despite the weight staying fairly static.

I’ve found a 30 minute YouTube workout video that I like. It’s all standing, and great for a previously exercise-phobe like me. I’m doing it every day and walking around 20-30 mins each day too.

vickibee · 13/12/2019 17:45

It’s hard to exercise in the dark grim weather. During the summer I was walking miles and miles.it certainly helped me shed the pounds

camrose · 14/12/2019 00:34

I have now lost a total of 10kg. I still have about 50 kg to go but it's a step in the right direction. I don't really feel any different yet. Physically I am a little smaller and my abdomen looks like a slightly deflated balloon, but no real difference.

Not sure how much weight I need to loose to look visibly smaller to other people?

vickibee · 16/12/2019 08:57

I get mixed up with Kg and still use pounds (old)
10 kg is nearly two stone so that is well done!

It does seem impossible when you have a lot of weight to lose. Breaking it down into smaller targets really helped me. My next target is to lose 5 pounds by 17 January which is when I next see my NHS Dietician
Is this really possible over Xmas?

Feelinggoodashell · 19/12/2019 08:00

Morning all! I would love to join you. Shall I introduce myself?

Ok...

I am 35 and I have 112 pounds to lose. I previously lost 70 pounds with slimming world but two years ago my marriage ended and I’ve gained it all back.

My reason for losing the weight is that I want to have fertility treatment as a single woman.

My relationship with food is not good. I grew up being told I was fat (i wasn’t) and deprived of anything considered fattening so that when I got to 14 I began binge eating. And then I really did become fat.

I met a man after my marriage ended who made me feel so sexy for first time in my life. So my body confidence is higher than ever but still not what I would wnst it to be.

I’m single, independent , healing and trying to plan my future.

Would love to join this support group!

Feelinggoodashell · 19/12/2019 08:55

@ringletsandtwiglets please can you share the youtube exercise which is all standing? I think that would work for me

@vickibee have you found the nhs dietician helpful? I was tempted to ask for a referral myself

vickibee · 19/12/2019 09:04

Welcome @Feelinggoodshell

the dietician is lovely but it is one half hour appointment per month. Initially it took six months to see her due to a long wait. The motivator is hoping the scales will move at next weigh in. I guess the support is limited really but it helps to know there is someone helping you a bit
I am finding it a lot harder to shift the weight now.

ringletsandtwiglets · 19/12/2019 10:43

Sure! I’ve been doing these two back to back, the first as a warm up, the second as the main exercise.

I really like the male instructor on the second video. Really encouraging and realistic for very overweight people like me. Wade is my inspiration. If he can, so can I!

In just a few weeks, I’ve definitely seen an improvement in my fitness. My heart rate doesn’t get very high as it did when I first started.

I’ve done this one a few times now- it’s a real killer, with 15 second rests between 5x exercises, then a minute between 5 sets of 5. I do the ‘active rests’ from that 2nd video by jogging on the spot or walking if I’m puffed. Her 1 minute rests are vids of her engagement, which annoys the hell out of me, so I show the video on my phone and watch Food Network at the same time on the tv!! 😂

And today, I did this one for the first time. It’s really intense and there are several non-standing activities, but I substituted some moves from the other videos instead of getting on the floor.

As you can see from the picture, it really got my heart going!

a belated HNY to all
How is everyone doing, gone quiet on here again

I managed to STS over the fetivities so I guess you have to be pleased with that :)

peachgreen · 21/01/2020 10:05

Haven't been on the thread for a long while but I'm committed to losing weight this year so here I am!

SW 21st 4lbs (10/01/20)
CW 20st 13.4lbs
GW for 2020 16st
Overall GW 12st

My goal weights are a bit hypothetical as actually my overall goal is to get to a size 14, something I haven't been since I was a teenager. Would like to get to a size 18 by the end of the year - currently a 22-26. Biggest I've ever been and thoroughly miserable about it!

vickibee · 21/01/2020 10:48

Peach it's good you have broken it into managabke chunks otherwise it is too overwhelming. You will get there in the end
My sw was 18 stone 10 back in February 2019. I am now 14 stone 8. So I have lost over 4 stone. It has got much harder to shift lately
My goal is another 2 stone also a size 14. Currently a 16 /18

peachgreen · 21/01/2020 13:02

@vickibee what an amazing achievement. I'd love to see that kind of change. Fingers crossed.

vickibee · 21/01/2020 14:04

Thanks peach. It is doable when you have the right mindset. I am really mindful about what I eat now and ask myself if it is worth the calories. Works most of the time lol. I can easily polish off a pack of pringles or a sharing bag of revrls without even thinking about it. Good luck with your jouney

ringletsandtwiglets · 21/01/2020 16:22

That’s brilliant, @vickibee! What changes did you make?

I know exactly what you mean about mindless eating, and tracking my calories on MFP is really helpful to make me think ‘Do I really want this?’.

vickibee · 21/01/2020 17:25

Tracked my calories on mfp. Tried to do around 1400ish. Upped my exercise so I aim to do 10000 steps. At first it went off rapidly but now it is much harder. I have only lost about 5lb in two months.
I cook always from fresh lots of fruit and veg. Lean meat only. Limit carbs like bread and rice.

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 23/01/2020 08:21

Hello everyone!!

I have a massive amount of weight to lose, I'm 146kg and want to lose at least 25kg before DH and I try for a second child, but if I could lose more that'd be ace!

I've been overweight all my life that I can remember and I do have issues with food.
Now I've grown up I can see my mum as the main culprit for those, she'd buy my older brother biscuits to keep in his room when I was 12, she's a competitive under-eater, but is still quite overweight, so must eat sometime!! But the main one is that DH and I just love food, we're right foodies, love a bit of fancy food, but also a dirty takeaway too!

I have a 16 month old DS, I was 120kg when I got pregnant, 126 when I went into labour and 119 when I came hone from the hospital. I gained lots of weight after I stopped BF as I think I'd gotten used to being able to eat more and not gain weight!

DH and I are doing slimming world meal plans, but aren't going to meetings. We're giving it a go for a while to see how that goes. We just don't have the time or the money to spend 2 hours a night happy clapping at others weight loss (sorry if you live SW, but our local class leader has massive classes and it takes forever!!)

vickibee · 24/01/2020 09:28

Welcome Chebby MCgee
You will see good results, eat three balance meals per day, it is a marathon and not a sprint.
I am under the guidance of an NHS dietician and although I only see her monthly it does motivate you a little. Could you ask for a GP referral?
I agree with you regarding Slimming clubs, I tried WW and found it cliquey and patronising. Good Luck and keep us posted

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 24/01/2020 16:03

Hi Vicki,

I looked to see my ideal weight and the upper end of the range is 75kg, bit disheartening, but as you say, its a marathon, not a sprint!

I'll keep it in mind about asking GP, I've got a very nice one at the moment who I'm due to and see in a few weeks anyway.

DH and I are just trying not to snack on rubbish and to walk to and from work where we can, I find it hard to go to the gym but I do roller skate about twice a week so that helps too.

Its been 2 weeks so far and I've lost 4kg so far, happy with that, thanks for the pep talk!
