We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Hi everyone, well done done those loses - FATE 8 stone lost is amazing!! And honey too!! 6 stone is a huge amount of weight off, you must feel so good.

Thanks for that snacking advice moonlight that has been something I struggle with anyways but that urge definitely is more often around the holidays with all the extra temptation so I am trying to take a minute and listen to my body before I eat, like you.

I think that not letting those hard weeks ruin your mentality is so important for long term change Quandary and I’m going to keep that in mind over the next weeks as well.

I lost another 3lbs last week, great! But then got sick and have been struggling all week to make good choices. All I want is carbs, sweet and tea. I’m not looking forward to my next weigh in but I will KOKO and remember this is long term.

Lost this week - 3lbs
Total lost - 6 lbs
To lose - 90 lbs

moonlight1705 · 20/12/2018 07:56

Coffee its so hard listening to your body as I am guessing that we are mostly all overweight due to not knowing where to stop. Good luck with it over Christmas.

Quandary hard weeks are always going to crop up so its very much about how we deal with them and their aftermath. But don't worry, I had a McDonalds for lunch yesterday as I just really craved it and it was delicious.

honey good plan for Christmas - log it all and go for nice long walks Smile sounds lovely.

Fate oh my goodness, I want that gin but sadly not this year. I do love making the sloe gin ready for the holidays normally.

So I had a fun time with midwives this week - according to their scales I've put on 3kg (7lb ish) which she was really pleased with. I then went to my 34 week scan and it turns out my baby is huge and they've estimated it already weighs 6lb so I am really hoping their 20% error means it won't be a huge baby. We'll have to wait until the 38 week scan to see how things are progressing.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 20/12/2018 13:29

Moonlight I was told the same with both of mine. 7.10 and 7.13 🤷

moonlight1705 · 20/12/2018 14:35

Phew honey maybe I won't panic just yet Smile

Quandary2018 · 20/12/2018 21:02

I was told my son would be at least 10-11lbs if not more and he was 8lb 8oz!

Frogletmamma · 21/12/2018 05:09

Not lost anything recently but haven't gained either. Not bad on a face full of mince pies.

Hiphopopotamus · 21/12/2018 11:40

I’ve put on 2 pounds which has taken me back up to 16st 1 - at least I’ll get the joy of breaking the stone barrier again sooner than I expected! Grin

Considering I’ve had both Christmas and birthday meals out, it could be a lot worse. I’m trying to stand on the scales every other day so I can’t hide from it!

FATEdestiny · 21/12/2018 13:03

I've worked frigging hard on my weight loss this week.

After I hit 8st loss on Friday, I had 3 days of mega indulging and between Friday morning and Monday morning put on a massive 6lb!! But then I've been massively strict - no carbs, low fat, low calorie, lots of running and NEAT. Net result is 6lb loss between Monday and Friday (today).

So I've STS this week. That does not show the massive determination needed to get there though.

fezzesarecool · 21/12/2018 22:57

👋 I’m still lurking!

Firmly getting back on it after Christmas, sorry I’ve not been a round much.

Eating is at maintenance and just doing Boot Camp once a week however I need to get seriously bang on again. Although it’s nice to have a break and just enjoy where I’m at right now.

Quandary2018 · 22/12/2018 06:32

Well done FATE for all that effort! I hate how easily weight piles back on, even just one “bad” meal and I gain 2 pounds (as I did last week and then have to work extremely hard to cancel it out) if only losing it was as easy as gaining!!
I’ve managed to lose 0.4lbs this week. Not sure how, I haven’t done as much exercise as I haven’t had time in the evenings and I’ve been too tired to get up in the morning earlier to do it.
I have eaten very healthily since Wednesday but didn’t think it was enough on its own to undo earlier in the week- clearly I was wrong!
Off to my parents for a week now, I won’t be weighing my food but I will be remaining mindful of what I put in my mouth
I’m sure I’ll gain this week and I’m not too bothered, it’s Christmas after all but I’m not going to be mindlessly popping chocolates like I used to
Merry Christmas everyone, I hope you all have a lovely few days whatever you’re doing

Loss this week: 0.4lbs
Loss to date: 22.4lbs
To go: 88.2lbs

HoneysuckIejasmine · 23/12/2018 16:18

I've stayed the same this week. Not really sure why, but does seem to fit the pattern on my graph. shrug

fezzesarecool · 24/12/2018 13:28

Think I’ve got noro coming on 😢 Looks like I’ll be back on my weigh loss journey sooner than I planned and I won’t even get a Christmas dinner

HoneysuckIejasmine · 24/12/2018 22:54

Oh no fezzes! Can you bring stuff in the freezer to have when you are recovered?

fezzesarecool · 24/12/2018 23:16

HoneysuckIejasmine Thanks, actually I was in the middle of doing dinner (we do a at Home Christmas on Christmas Eve) when I felt it coming on

But my mum’s said she’ll do me a Christmas dinner later in the week Actually as long as I’m ok to watch the kids open the presents I’m happy but gutted to be letting down all the grandparents tomorrow

I did say that dh could take the kids but ge’s Feeling a bit iffy too

Nevermind Hope everyone has a merry Christmas xxx

fezzesarecool · 25/12/2018 05:27

On the upside Santa visited us last night and I’ve lost 6lb overnight 😂

(I know it just water weight but let me have some kind of win 😉) At leat I can ‘afford’ to have eat Christmas dinner when my stomach settles in a few days and it’ll even me out rather than put on! 🎅🏽🎅🏽🎅🏽

AnotherOtter · 26/12/2018 10:49

Fezzes, so sorry you got norovirus for Christmas! Hope you are feeling much better and fingers crossed no one else gets it as it is so contagious Thanks

I'm sorry I've not been on the thread at all the last fortnight. Actually have some good news though: reached my target weight last Thursday. 105lbs off, BMI is 22.4 and my waist is 30.5”. I wish my waist was smaller as I still feel very self-conscious about how much my upper abdomen protrudes. I don't know if I will try to lose more to see what happens to that.

Maintenance is good so far. I am still tracking in MFP and I don't see that stopping. I've read on here people calling that sad but I disagree. Maybe I will be able to fully repair my relationship with food, including the parts that allowed me to be so much heavier. But maybe not. MFP is a tool that helps me while my relationship with food doesn't always help me.

I'm also still weighing daily which I know is controversial. I can literally laugh at high outliers though and I know some folk can't. I have been known to talk to my scales and say "is that right? We'll see what you say tomorrow!" Grin The reason that I am continuing to weigh so frequently is that I genuinely can't tell when my body gets larger or smaller. I also don't seem to notice with clothes much either. At my top weight, I was weighed in hospital for a pre-op and I was fucking astonished that I was morbidity obese. Really had no idea. I feel pretty much the same now my body is smaller. I regained weight from a partial diet two years ago and part of the problem was that I really didn't know I was gaining weight again. Don't want to repeat that mistake. Weighed in this morning at one pound under my target weight which might be a Christmas miracle as I was quite indulgent (and nothing wrong with that) yesterday.

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and enjoyed themselves as well as looking to their weight loss goals. Life is short Thanks

MagicKeysToAsda · 27/12/2018 13:25

THREAD UPDATE:

When this thread started, the overall loss was 1205.75
Taking into account everyone's hard work, losing, gaining, KOKO-ing, the overall loss is now....

drum roll

1390lbs collectively lost!!

Well done everyone and here's to a great 2019 Star Star Star

HoneysuckIejasmine · 27/12/2018 20:23

Apparently the average horse weighs about 1000lbs. So that's 1.4 horses! Shock

HoneysuckIejasmine · 29/12/2018 09:23

I've had a Christmas gain - 1.25lbs. But that means I've now lost exactly 6 stone, so I'm not hugely upset! It'll be gone again soon!

JustKeepSwimmingJustKeepSwimmi · 29/12/2018 10:50

waves can i please join for th new year. Or are you full now? I briefly joined eaelier this year under a different name (was worried I had artery disease and then all hell broke lose weight wise when I realised I didnt!)

I know its not always easy to have new people ask the same questions and youre all quite amfar in. So do say no! Ive exactly 100lbs to lose now. Well possibly 103 or 4 given christmas. I got morbidly obese since having child 2 and just saw a photo of me 6 years ago at borerline obese. I hated it then but now id need to lose 5 stone just to get to that and reallyh want to.

It feels overwhelming.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 29/12/2018 12:54

Hi Just! We always welcome new people, we're never full! There are some people 3lbs in, and others 8 stone in, but we're all fighting the same battle.

Have you had any thoughts about how you'll do it? I find it helps to identify your problem and tackle it head on! For me, it was sheer volume of food so I've gone for calorie counting. The concept of "free foods" did me no favours at all.

Quandary2018 · 29/12/2018 23:49

I’ve decided to skip this weeks weigh in. I’m still at my parents and their scale always has me heavier than my one at home. I’m getting properly back on it food and exercise wise from Wednesday when it’s back to the work routine
I know I’ve gained over xmas, I haven’t gone mad food wise but I haven’t demonised myself either for the first time in years because normally id do both and get stuck in the overeating/guilt cycle

Sorry you were poorly over xmas fezzes hope youre feeling better now?

Congrats on reaching your target weight otter, very impressive! If tracking your food and weighing daily is helping you then there’s no reason to stop- if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!

Honeysuckle- what’s 1.25lbs when you’ve lost 6 stone!? As you said, soon be gone again

Justkeepswimming- welcome! I’m relatively new and 22lbs down, 80 odd to go!
Definitely plan how you’re going to tackle things and what your weaknesses are- mine are sweet foods and boredom
I no longer have anything sweet in the house and if I feel bored, normally in the evenings, I’ll do a quick 15minute exercise video from YouTube, go for a bath or even just go to bed, anything to stop me mindlessly eating
Everyone here is very supportive so I hope you’ll find it as helpful as I have so far

AnotherOtter · 30/12/2018 11:45

Loss this week: 0.8lbs
Total loss: 106.6lbs

Lost weight over Christmas, fantastic! Nope, it's because my mood is bad plus my levothyroxine dose for my hypothyroidism was a little too high. I am 1.6lbs under my target just now but will see what happens once the medication changes kick in. Feel really disappointed to be unwell again and know a lot of it is down to me taking my eye of the ball and thinking I could swan about like non-mad person and not do my lifestyle changes. I'm not new here, I know this stuff. Urghgh. I'm sorry that I sound so ungrateful for losing weight when other folk are having to face gains (like all the average weight people too though). 2019 will be a better year!

Thanks for your kind words, Quandary. Well done for not getting trapped in the overeating-guilt cycle. That is major progress and shows how far you have come. Making new habits is just as important as the scales decreasing.

Honey, what happened when you tried a diet that had 'free foods'? It's interesting how varied we all are about what works best for us. I'm a big believer in working things out by trial and error. Well, I'm a bigger believer in large, well conducted randomised controlled trials but they are very thin on the ground when it comes to what is best for weight loss. So I experiment a bit on myself instead.

Welcome back JustKeepSwimming. New folk join regularly and we have people at all different stages and using different methods. I'm another calorie counter using the free MyFitnessPal app. I also have an activity tracker watch that helps motivate me to exercise and tracks what I have done. Jump in with any questions and keep posting Smile

Thanks for adding all that up, MagicKeys! What a total Star We have done so well.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 30/12/2018 17:56

AnotherOtter I lost weight. But as soon as I stopped I continued eating the giant portions, and piled it all back on again.

moonlight1705 · 31/12/2018 08:40

Hello all, sorry I've been off for a while but its been a mad family christmas which was lovely.

I am feeling good as weighed for the first time in two weeks and have stayed exactly the same. Grin
Being under a consultant has helped in that they popped my levothyroxine up massively and for once in my life, I'm at a normal level which must help things.

Hope you've all had a lovely holidays and a very Happy New Year.
