We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

2.6lbs off this week- I miscounted last week and it was .6lb not 1.6lb but a loss is a loss!

Not really sure how I’ve managed 2.6lbs this week, I had a five guys last weekend and then through the week I’ve had banana bread, a couple of fairy cakes etc but my exercise levels have increased so perhaps that’s it

Next couple of weeks are going to be hard, have got afternoon tea today, work xmas do on Tuesday, my nans funeral the week after where I know the food at the wake will be typical nibbly bits ie lots of pastry! There’s just so much on in the run up to Christmas it’s going to be hard but as long as I keep the exercise going and eat well the rest of the time hopefully I won’t undo all my hard work!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 08/12/2018 09:58

Excellent attitude Quandary, and well done on the loss! That's fabulous. I think this time of year is always hard even if you're not trying to diet!

Loss this week: 1.25lbs
Loss to date: 83.25lbs
To go: 29.50lbs

Pleased I've actually lost something this week after a few slow weeks. Enjoying my "exercise a day" challenge and making sure I get 10,000 steps done.

Quandary2018 · 08/12/2018 10:48

Forgot to do my stats!

Loss this week: 2.6lbs
Loss to date: 20.2lbs
To go: 89.6lbs

Honeysuckle- I find exercising makes me want to eat healthier too and eating healthier makes me want to exercise it’s a much nicer cycle than the binge eating making me feel crap so I eat more cycle I was in before!

moonlight1705 · 08/12/2018 14:46

Feeling better this week and STS which I was quite pleased with.

Well done all on your losses.

LosingLola · 08/12/2018 21:51

I've lost 2.5lbs this week, which takes me to 3 stone 13 lbs in total!

AnotherOtter · 09/12/2018 11:16

Loss this week: 1.8lbs
Total loss: 102.8lbs
To go: 2.2lbs

Thanks for all your kind words about my milestone Smile Another good week for me. I was really worried that all my new medication (I have bipolar disorder and am on two mood stabilisers, an antipsychotic and an antidepressant plus other drugs for side-effects) would scupper my attempts at weight loss or make me gain weight. All my psychiatric drugs have weight gain as a possible side-effect particularly the antipsychotic which can be so severe that people develop type 2 diabetes. Past medications have made me gain a lot of weight. So I was feeling pretty hopeless about it all. What I didn't consider is that once the medication started working Then I would feel a lot better and that made it easier to plan my eating and keep to my plan. Everything just feels so much easier now, it's lovely. I'm definitely trying to make the most of it while it lasts as obviously with bipolar disorder you never know when the next episode is round the corner. I think maintenance will be a big challenge when I am ill. But maintenance is a big challenge for everyone.

How's your resolution to being active every day in December going, honey? I am doing the same. I want the calendar on my Garmin app to look pretty! I am a big kid. Well done on your loss this week.

Moonlight, I think a visit to the labour ward will really help you plan for your birth. Much easier to visualise what you hope to happen once you've seen it for yourself. I loved spending time on the labour wards as they usually have a brilliant atmosphere. Lots of tears of joy (staff too!).

Great to see you, fezzes, how are you getting on? Hope things have settled down though that's a bit of a stretch at this time of year.

Well done on your loss, slithy.

Hope you are okay, strawberry, sounds like you have an awful lot on just now.

Welcome clucky. Well done on your progress so far. The NHS Our Path programme sounds interesting,

Well done on your loss, Quandary. I am pinning my hopes on exercising more to compensate for all the mince pies and chocolate cupcakes too! Managed to be pretty restrained and kept it to one a day so only going over my calorie budget by a little. But it was every day except one this week. Did an extra 5 mile run and some longer walks. Seemed to work this week but will see over the rest of the month.

Well done, LosingLola, you are making great progress,

HoneysuckIejasmine · 09/12/2018 16:46

Well done moonlight! How many weeks are you now?

LosingLola that's a great total so far! Fingers crossed for 4 stone barrier next week.

AnotherOtter so exciting that you've only got 2.2lbs to go! Amazing, what a huge achievement, despite everything you're juggling.

The exercise thing is going well. I'm finding myself marching on the spot to make up the steps! I'm also enjoying the graph on Strava which is a straight line (near enough) at the moment. I'm aiming for no horizontals (days of no activity).

Gosh, I say things like that and sometimes I just don't recognise myself!

coffeeandrainbows · 10/12/2018 01:58

Hi all and well done to everyone on their loses this week! Especially to Another on getting to the 100lbs lost!! That is amazing and so inspiring!!

Welcome clucky, the OurPath plan sounds very similar to what I’m trying to do so it’s nice to hear that you are finding it doable. I have only just begun and giving up sugar has proven to be very difficult for me.

After a really tough first few days I was at a point where I would normally just quit and say that maybe I’ll try again in the new year, but instead I just KOKO and accepted that I won’t magically change my eating habits over night and one poor choice snack doesn’t mean I have to give up completely. This is a really new way of thinking for me and I was really so proud of myself Grin I do think this thread has helped me keep the focus and accept the realities of losing this much weight, so thank you all!

I also did decide to cut down on the white, processed carbs as well as sugar and I think it has helped keep my blood sugar levels a bit more stable, or I’m just getting used to it, but either way I have noticed the cravings aren’t as bad which is really good news for me.

Lost this week: 2lbs
Total Lost: 3lbs
To Lose: 93lbs

Does anyone have a plan for managing holiday eating? I always tend to think ‘it’s the holidays, I can indulge a little’ but it ends up being weeks of extra chocolates, alcohol and just a lot of food really. I don’t want to have either extreme of rigid dieting or indulgence with abandon, but I’m struggling to find a healthy balance between the two.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 10/12/2018 09:19

coffee I think the Mary Berry approach is best. ("Use real butter and have a smaller slice") so, have a plate of dinner. But just one. Have pudding, but no seconds.

Also: Don't "just the one" things as you walk past. Stop, put it on a plate, walk away. Research showed that if there's evidence of what you eat, you eat less. (Two groups eating bone in chicken. For group where they continually cleared away bones, consumption was higher than when they left bones to pile up.) So, if you're eating quality street or something, leave all the wrappers on a plate so you can see them.

Eat consciously. So often we over eat because it's just a crisp whilst I pour them out, just the other half of my toddlers biscuit, just that truffle as I walk past the box. No. Stop. Put it on a plate. Sit down with it, and take the time to actually eat it whilst you're paying attention.

I calorie count so I'll be spending some time putting all the dishes in to my fitness pal and weighing out portions. When you go to that effort it's a shame to ruin it with nabbed, unrecorded treats.

coffeeandrainbows · 10/12/2018 13:31

Thanks Honey that seems like a perfectly sensible approach which is exactly what I’m trying to find Smile I like the idea of having one treat that I sit down and enjoy after dinner. I’ve been trying to stop mindless snacking anyways so I will continue that through the holidays. I’ll plan to have a few chocolates but each time I want to grab ‘just one’ I’ll put it in a separate bowl and maybe that will really show me just how many those ‘just ones’ add up to. Then I can choose to sit down and eat them or decide if it’s not really worth it.

Reading back the thread, I’ll try and add in some extra exercise too to help offset those extra calories.

coffeeandrainbows · 10/12/2018 13:32

It sounds so easy and sensible but I suspect it will be a challenge for me Xmas Wink

HoneysuckIejasmine · 10/12/2018 22:45

Yes coffee, I fear it might be easier said that done. It's also good to set out your portion of chocs of whatever, and once they are gone, they are gone. Heck, it doesn't matter if your portion is the whole box, as long as you stop and don't start on the second one that's technically Aunty Mary's present. 😂

moonlight1705 · 12/12/2018 12:06

How is everyone doing this week? I thought I would do a mid-week check in Smile

honey I am 33 weeks today so time is ticking on. We went to the first NCT class last night, there for 4 other couples who all seem nice so far. It was reassuring to see that everyone had their own issues about pregnancy and to be honest, I've had it the easiest out of everyone.
How are you doing on your activity days?

Another how amazing that you are so close to your target - I've really enjoyed reading your posts over the threads as they are always so thoughtful and show the sheer determination it takes for us to get to your point.

coffee the hardest part of Christmas is not snacking on everything because it is the holidays. As honey said, try not to walk past and grab a chocolate on the way etc and stick to lovely filling main meals. My target this Christmas is to listen to my body and if I don't feel hungry then to say no (there is always more available for those times I am hungry).

HoneysuckIejasmine · 12/12/2018 19:55

Hi moonlight! 33 weeks, that's amazing! It's going so quickly - well it feels like it is to me, you may not agree 😂

Daily exercise is going well thank you. I went out for dinner last night so I walked 8km in the day to make sure I had enough calories for my dinner! I think I did alright, but I'm not expecting great things this week. But if my health and fitness is getting better, that's ok by me.

FATEdestiny · 14/12/2018 08:49

Weigh Day Today

Weight on 1-Jan-18: 17st 8.5
Weight on 14-Dec-18: 9st 8.5
Total Loss: 8st 0

Woo hoo!

HoneysuckIejasmine · 14/12/2018 09:37

Omg fate, that's incredible!! Well done you! That's my target and it seems so far away at the moment. Are you still doing lots of running?

moonlight1705 · 14/12/2018 10:21

Wow Fate - you are almost halved! What an incredible loss Smile

FATEdestiny · 14/12/2018 16:06

I'd love to get to half my original weight (8st 11) but I'm in no rush. This last half stone has been slow going.

I still run lots, at least 5km every day and usually around 60km or so a week. Yesterday I got my highest ever daily step total 37,727 - a 10km morning run, evening 8km dog walk, walk to school and back twice, and general pottering around.

Quandary2018 · 15/12/2018 09:05

Wow Fate what an achievement! Amazing!

I’ve lost a pound this week which I am really pleased with, as I said last week, there were lots of events this week where healthy eating was going to be tricky.
I had afternoon tea last Saturday so scones and sandwiches and cakes
Sunday I went to McDonald’s with the kids and then to the panto and had ice cream
Tuesday was my work xmas do at an all you can eat place- I was proud of myself here as I ate slowly and stopped when I wasn’t hungry anymore, i also didn’t go crazy on the booze!
The rest of the week I’ve eaten healthily and exercised a reasonable amount too
So plan for this week is to koko I have three long drives to and from London and then back again, a funeral and probably some take aways while I’m away as the ovens broken at my parents. Am not expecting a loss this week, am aiming to stay the same, would love a loss as I’m close to next stone bracket but I’m being realistic with everything I have going on this week.

Loss this week: 1lb
Loss to date: 21.2lbs
To go: 88.6lbs

HoneysuckIejasmine · 15/12/2018 10:42

Loss this week: 2lbs
Loss to date: 85.25lbs
To go: 27.50lbs

That's 6 stone and 1.25lbs lost so far. Can't believe it! Less than 2 stone to go.

Quandary that's excellent, and I think very sensible to try to sts this coming week. Sometimes meals have a delayed effect on us and you don't see the gain or lose that week.

moonlight1705 · 15/12/2018 15:46

Well done both Smile I've put on 1.5lb this week but it definitely feels like its all on the baby and not me so much.

Still, did have a work lunch out and am cooking Christmassy cakes for various bring along things this week. Quite pleased with my stollen which I've not made before.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 19/12/2018 09:25

How is everyone getting on?

I'm quite pleased today. I jumped on the scales before my shower and I was the same as Saturday. This was without using the loo or feeding the baby, so I hope I'm on course for a good loss this week. I'm 1/2lb under my Christmas target so any extra this week is a bonus.

I added the calories up in Christmas cake (480 for a small slice!) and pudding (292 for small portion) so I'm hoping if I can give myself a few pounds buffer, then I can enjoy them both!

Fezzes thinking of you, hope you're getting on ok.

Quandary2018 · 19/12/2018 21:02

I think this week and next week might end up being a write off for me despite my intentions last Saturday
I ended up with McDonald’s breakfast on Sunday, a Chinese for dinner, far too many nibbly bits at my nans wake on Monday and dominos last night.
I have eaten incredibly well today as I felt disgusting plus I found out at the last minute that the cook from frozen salmon I was planning on eating for tea was all gone!
I stepped on the scale this morning and I was up 2lbs but that was the case last Wednesday and I ended up with a loss so hopefully I can scrape a staying the same if I do a bit more exercise
Next week I’m not even going to bother am at my parents from Saturday and am going to eat what I want but in moderation- lots of dog walks and maybe some time on the exercise bike should help too but I am expecting a gain of a few pounds

Really well done for being below your Christmas target, I’m going to miss mine by 3lbs but such is life I won’t let it ruin my mentality

FATEdestiny · 19/12/2018 21:17

DH and I have cracked open the Cherry Bakewell Gin this week. Mmm. So even with slimline tonic, plenty of empty calories to be had.

Aw well. I continue to make healthy food choices most days so what the hell.

Delicious gin, I highly recommend it.

HoneysuckIejasmine · 19/12/2018 23:01

I wish I liked gin. Maybe I do, I've only tried it once, in maybe 2007? Must investigate.

Quandary I think that sounds sensible. Stressful and busy times happen, and we have to make the best of them. My plan for Christmas is also to have what I want, but log it all. Accountability, even if I end up going way over. At least I'll know.

And a few long walks, as you say! 😊
