Hello, welcome to the sixth instalment (wow!) of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus …’ thread smile

If you want to read them (but by no means feel obliged!), the previous threads are here:

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Moonlight can I ask why you have to have a hospital birth? Are you high risk or a first time mum?

fezzesarecool · 28/11/2018 20:42

👋 Just a quick one to say I’m sort of hanging in there!

moonlight1705 · 28/11/2018 22:08

slithytove I'm high risk due to BMI and thyroid problem plus I'm a first time mum. Even if I was at the right weight I would be counted as high risk but they may have let me into the midwife led unit. Sad

Anyway, must keep on and try to not worry.

fezze how are you doing? Hanging on is still good!

Fate Its so interesting to see life from the other end so to speak. Calories are such tricky little things and seem to change depending upon who is eating them.

slithytove · 28/11/2018 23:21

.can I ask which part of the uk you are in moonlight?

coffeeandrainbows · 29/11/2018 00:20

Ok so sugar is a HUGE struggle for me! Much much more than I realised Sad I haven’t managed a sugar free day yet as I just end up having a bite or two of something from kids, often before I even think about it, just pure habit, and then a bite more. And I find that when I look for something other than sugar, it’s really just white carbs, so toast instead of sweet cereal or a chocolate which isn’t really an improvement at all! I feel like I should just be a bit stricter with myself and cut down on all white carbs in general to maybe force myself to find some new foods/habits but I do worry that I won’t stick to a stricter diet yet again and give up and then end up facing another holiday season at an ever increasing heaviest weight. I don’t think I’ve ever made it longer than a week on any ‘diet’ plan before and this seems like it’s turning out to be the same, yet I will still keep posting in the hope that it helps. Thanks everyone for reading, it does mean a lot to me.

Fate that is interesting about your calories in and I can only imagine that the hormone changes in your body now that you have lost weight as well as the increased muscle might have something to do with it? I think that bodies are so complex and even the simple calories in and calories out relationship can really be affected by so many things.

moonlight that is too bad you cannot have the midwife led birth you wanted. I hope it all goes well for you though.

honeysucklejasmine · 29/11/2018 11:11

Moonlight I had two hospital births, both consultant led. I didn't see a consultant until crunch time both times (DD was forceps, DS had an episode of brachycardia) and honestly it was fine. It was nice having a midwife in the room the whole time - I like to chat and it's a good distraction. I'm glad I was there when things went wrong.

Fezzes was thinking about you this morning. Hope you're well.

Another you're so right. I'm 3lbs up on last Saturday. But hey, even with that, I've lost 79lbs. 79! Bloody hell. A mum at toddlers today told me I was disappearing so it's obviously making a difference. Must take my measurements again soon.

Fate that's really interesting! I'm also finding the calorie deficit increasingly difficult as I get lighter. Very frustrating! Really testing my willpower.

honeysucklejasmine Thanks and everyone else for thinking of me I’m hoping to be a 100% on track again in the New Year

It’s just so crazy at the moment, one drama after another but nothing importantly so if that makes sense

Quandary2018 · 01/12/2018 08:34

1.6lbs off this week which I’m not surprised about, foods been good other than pizza last Saturday and 4 quality streets at work but I haven’t exercised nearly as much as normal.
Diet alone is definitely not enough for me, I need to move and sweat to get results.
Got a really busy few weeks coming up, don’t we all, but will not use that as an excuse to not KOKO
Consistency is key I’ve found

Hope you’re all doing well xx

honeysucklejasmine · 01/12/2018 10:28

Well done Quandary, that's great!

I'm a STS this week, which is amazing as I thought I'd blown it. 82lbs exactly lost. 30.75lbs to go.

OP posts:
Frogletmamma · 01/12/2018 11:05

No change this week but was tempted by fish and chips so not surprised. Trying not to feel too downcast.

AnotherOtter · 02/12/2018 11:39

Loss this week: 1.6lbs
Total loss: 101lbs
To go: 4lbs

So I've hit 100lbs off! Feel a bit shocked that it's actually happened finally. And a bit of an anticlimax too. As it's the new month, I did my measurements (really recommend that for everyone) and my waist is finally less than half my height. My 32GG bras are a little too big in the cups now too. My current weight was my second goal (first was to get BMI under 30) but I think I am right to try to get my waist circumference down a little more. My apple-shaped big upper abdomen is still very prominent which bothers me. I have a lot of loose skin, which I knew would happen as my skin has poor elasticity anyway, isn't bothering me much at all which is surprising. I have this feeling that my loose skin 'matches' the struggles I've had and that I can feel proud of that. Battle scars maybe?

Moonlight, you sound like you are being very hard on yourself. It is upsetting to not get the birth plan you were hoping for but who knows what complications would have derailed you even if your BMI was 20! I've spent a lot of time on the labour wards and you can definitely still have a happy and satisfying birth there.

Of course you are still welcome to post here, FATE! Fascinating post there, I enjoyed reading it. My theory is that at least some of the reason, and probably most, that it gets harder to lose weight the more you lose is that your body is trying to return you to your set point by altering your metabolism and behaviour. Behaviour isn't just decisions made consciously and mindfully: there is a lot of automatic behaviour promoted by lower brain systems too. Depending on who you believe 80-95% of people regain the weight they lost and there is no way that is down to people being 'lazy' or 'giving up'. There is a lot more going on than what researchers know at the moment.

How are you getting on with your sugar free goal, coffeeandrainbows? Don't beat yourself up if things aren't perfect. Just keep trying and KOKO.

Hope things settle down for you soon, fezzes Thanks

honeysucklejasmine · 02/12/2018 19:48

AnotherOtter well done you! Amazing achievement! You are incredible.

I'm quite surprised by my skin tbh. My thighs look pretty wrinkled and saggy, but they've always been huge so it's not surprising. I'm more surprised that my stomach "overhang" is getting smaller rather than just sagging. I do think that's a benefit to losing more slowly - if your skin is going to recover, it's more likely to do so with a gradual loss.

I've a resolution to be active every day in December. Wish me luck!

I meant to reply on the weekend but was in London meeting up with friends so a nice distraction.

Thanks for all your kind words, I'm going to admit that I'm somewhat stubborn and the idea that I can't control everything scares me. Somehow I'm going to have to let go of ideas of birth and just go with it. As you say Another, if I had a BMI of 20 there is no guarantee that I'd get the birth I want. Thanks honey for saying it was good for you, am visiting the ward early January so may feel better then.

I've also STS this week which has made me feel better.

Anyway well done Another on your amazing achievement! I know you've now got new goals but its fab to hear how someone can do it Smile

fezzesarecool · 03/12/2018 10:39

AnotherOtter Big, big congratulations! Definitely be proud of your ‘battle scars’ The way I see it, it’s a reminder of the struggles and how far you’ve come Smile

Quandary2018 · 03/12/2018 21:56

That’s truly amazing AnotherOtter! Congratulations!!

slithytove · 04/12/2018 13:08

Can’t remember when I last updated but last week dropped 3 lbs and today another 2.
Thrilled. Now at a total loss of 33 lbs with 2 to go to next mini target, and I think about 44 left to lose

honeysucklejasmine · 04/12/2018 20:29

Congratulations Slithy, that's great!

My "activity a day" challenge is going well so far. I'm a bit stiff and sore this evening so I'm glad I already went for a walk. Although I'll need to do some marching on the spot as my step count isn't as high as I'd like yet.

👋 Just a random check in, hope everyone’s well

HoneysuckIejasmine · 07/12/2018 08:46

Hi all. I've had to re-register cause I couldn't log in. What a ball ache. Hope you're all well!

fezzesarecool · 07/12/2018 09:49

HoneysuckIejasmine How annoying, but at least you got back on here

HoneysuckIejasmine · 07/12/2018 13:10

Yes, luckily could get this imitation username too. A new capital letter, swap the l for a capital i, presto!

strawberrypig · 07/12/2018 18:43

Hello all, been run off my feet with full time job/studying/teenagers/animals and felt it a little overwhelming. I am officially off the eating plan for a week or two as it is one less thing to think about. Not doing too badly weight wise, I am not stuffing my face (too much) and hopefully this will give my metabolism a bit of a boost.

Congratulations AnotherOtter, an incredible achievement. 🎉

clucky3 · 07/12/2018 19:00

Evening, can I join you ladies please? I started out with 101lbs to lose to get me to a BMI of 25. I have lost 18 so far so plenty to go...

HoneysuckIejasmine · 07/12/2018 20:14

Hi strawberry. Keep on keeping on! A few weeks off plan isn't going to be too problematic long term.

Clucky welcome! Congratulations on what you've lost so far, that's great! What "method" are you using?

clucky3 · 07/12/2018 21:04

Thanks HoneysuckIejasmine, I am on the OurPath plan. It’s an NHS recommended one which focuses on reducing carbs (but not eliminating them so not keto) and added sugar. I’m really enjoying it actually, it’s not as hard as other diets I’ve done, and I love that I don’t spend the whole time thinking about food. Once I stopped eating sweet stuff it got the cravings under control and I don’t find myself needing to snack now, which is very odd for me. I find I can stick to it and lose weight fairly easily 3 weeks out of every 4. When my period is due it’s a totally different matter and I crave junk food so badly! Trying to ignore it right now and drink herbal tea instead
