We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

I don't see homemade curry as an indulgence. The ones I make are packed full of goodness and are really healthy anyway. I often have quinoa with my curry instead of rice to make it lower carbs, but sometimes have rice.

I would see having something like naan bread with my curry as an indulgence. That's because I don't eat bread though, so any form of bread is an indulgence for me.

fezzesarecool · 06/10/2018 11:07

strawberrypig I think I’m similar to you in my approach, no banned food groups and if I do go a bit mad of the unhealthy foods I try and balance it out.

In general at home I have lots of homemade curry, rice and lentils as my staples. I do have a takeaway still once a week but that’s now in control size wise. I think out of my recent 3 nights out the wedding was totally go for it, Nando’s was worked off in advance and last night’s curry while health wise not great as not homemade size and amount was in control and the drink was totally go for it.

So I’m feeling ok about these things but definitely bang on it now as I’ve had a bit of fun.

Also although I’ve still got a lot of work to do I feel more relaxed as I’ve now got 6st 4lbs off so I feel that I am able to give myself a break/make allowances for when social occasions come up and just draw a line and start again the next day. And most importantly put in it context with balancing. Whereas other time’s I would be worrying and very single minded about losing weight and exercising.

So I hope this is now a good slow change in my approach to maintaining a lifestyle change.

fezzesarecool · 06/10/2018 11:08

FATEdestiny It so interesting how we all have different approaches that work for us and we are all losing weight!

I do love my carbs though!

honeysucklejasmine · 06/10/2018 11:46

Really interesting posts today everyone, thank you!

Magic congratulations on smashing through the stone barrier! I find it a huge psychological boost.

So, this week. Weigh in tomorrow officially but today I am half a pound up on last week. I'm ok with that. It sucks that it's a gain, but I've eaten out twice, had a birthday tea and far too much cake, so I think it's justified.

I've been taking photos of myself throughout my weight loss and it is really motivating. In the past month I have only lost 5lbs and I was feeling a little blue about it. I am over a third of the way there now with today's weigh in showing 36 lbs off.

I will have to think of a lovely slimming treat for tomorrow as have a family tradition of pizza take away with every new series of Doctor WhoTardisMaybe a bucket of plain popcorn?

strawberrypig I almost forgot about Doctor Who! Can’t wait 😄

fezzesarecool · 06/10/2018 13:19

Fantastic progress photos, you can really see your figure in the lastest pic

FATEdestiny · 06/10/2018 13:40

I wish I'd have thought to take progress photos, you can really see the difference strawberrypig.

I've started taking weekly photos (in a crop-top and cycling shorts Blush) since I got to BMI 25 and 100lb loss. It's to motivate me to lose the last 1.5 stone to get to the middle of healthy, which I know will be slower now I'm a healthy weight. Plus I exercise a lot, so it might be I change shape without changing weight.

slithytove · 06/10/2018 14:18

Can I please join? A bit late but never mind.

I have 75lbs to lose to get to target, prob 85 to get to ideal weight. Have already lost 15 with slimming world and am content following it at the moment. Haven’t started exercising yet but that is the next step.

MagicKeysToAsda · 06/10/2018 16:50

Welcome Slithytove I'm a slimming world-er too. Nice to have you with us!

honeysucklejasmine · 06/10/2018 19:53

Welcome slithy

strawberry fab photos! Well done! I have been taking them now and then, I should probably take some more actually. I'm off to look at them now to see.

Whilst I'm here, god I'd forgotten how many calories are in pastry! Homemade pie today, think I'll pick the pastry off the leftovers! Not worth it.

Well this week and last week have truly caught up with me and I've put on 2lb.

I had hoped not to start putting on until the third trimester but I've had the munchies all week. Sad I've eaten quite a bit of rubbish so need to be careful on the amount of sugar etc

Total loss 13.5lb

honeysucklejasmine · 07/10/2018 09:03

I've also had a gain this week. It's my first ever gain since I started, and honestly I'm feeling ok about it. I know why it happened, and it's given me enough of a kick up the arse to avoid it happening again I think.

So,

This week: +0.5lbs
Total loss: 73.25lbs
To lose: 38.75lbs

Not a great week to start the 12 week challenge, but actually I'm taking the positives.

Onwards and downwards!

honeysucklejasmine We’re in it together and I’m not being great either with my nights out

But we’re not in a race, if we manage the challenge fantastic and if not we’re still better off than where we started from!

Either way we will get there and I’m hoping to still see everyone on here/another thread for maintenance support 😄

umpteennamechanges · 07/10/2018 17:38

Hi everyone,

Hope it's okay to join. I'm going to weigh in tonight (if I can find replacement batteries for the scales!).

I think(?) I'm about 19stone and 5'6".

Main motivations are pure vanity (I love fashion and my clothes just don't look great on me at this weight) and that we're thinking of TTC from May next year...I'm 36 so can't leave it much longer but want to try and be in better shape than I am now as I'm self-employed so can't really afford to have any pregnancy health complications.

Plus I'm sick of having no energy...ive just wasted another Sunday lazing on the sofa all day and struggle to get through the weekends without taking naps. Won't be able to do this once DC come along!

Ah the spanner. Thats why our thread got accidentally deleted.

FATEdestiny · 07/10/2018 21:59

Spanner? I meant spammer

PostNotInHaste · 07/10/2018 22:02

It's back, thank goodness !

Badhairday77 · 07/10/2018 22:04

Glad it's back. Will post properly tomorrow.

MagicKeysToAsda · 07/10/2018 22:06

Ah, we're all back together again, the world is as it should be. Sleep tight all!

And Post good luck out-running the boar tomorrow Shock

honeysucklejasmine · 07/10/2018 23:20

Hoorah!

Welcome upteem! Sorry, you posted at a bad time, we got deleted so we're all aflutter. I relate to your motivations. I was floating in the mid 18 stones when I had dc1 and quickly shot up to 19.4 after she was born. I'm now 14.1 and the difference in our lifestyle is amazing. I've still got a way to go but I'm determined to be a good, active role model for her and dc2.

Post re Germany, I suppose the good thing might be, if you were anything like me, you'd have not thought twice about the amount of food, and you certainly wouldn't be feeling rough now. How much we change!

Umpteen I mean Blush. Before I lost weight weekends were lolling around the house, exhausted. Today we went to a local beauty spot and did a 4k circular walk.

I used to read about people saying how much more energy they had post weightloss, and think it wouldn't happen to me. And yet...

StompyDino · 07/10/2018 23:41

Hello! I’d love to join if you’ll have me!

I’m 20st 1lb as of this morning (BMI 42.7) and making the effort to lose weight for a million reasons, most importantly so that my 4m old DD doesn’t grow up with a fat mum (and inherit my bizarre relationship with food).

I’ve done Slimming World successfully before (green plan) and lost 7st but put most of it back on. Tried to join my local group but it is full of people who only needed to lose half a stone so not fancying that. Plus I’ve joined and quit so many times that I wonder if I’d be better on another plan like 5:2 or Slimfast if anyone has any hints/tips?

I’ve always been fat and 14st 9lbs is my lowest adult weight. I know it’s my own fault as I eat lots of rubbish and all my hobbies/interests involve sitting down but it doesn’t make it any easier to do something about it. DH says he’ll support me but often does things to sabotage out of kindness (“you deserve a treat“) so I’m hoping to take some encouragement from here!!!

Sorry that was an essay but I feel better for putting it down Blush

AnotherOtter · 08/10/2018 00:29

Mumsnet! Don't do that to us! Poor thread has had a bad evening.

I've pretty much sts this week which I'm a bit disappointed about as had, according to MFP and the Garmin apps, a good calorie deficit every day. Still six pounds up on my lowest weight over the summer. So not a good start to the twelve week challenge from me either! I saw my GP this week and she basically told me to put the dieting on pause until my mood and motherfucking medication is under control. Suspect the psychiatrist will say the same. I'm not keen as feel like I want to get started again and build some momentum. It sounds a bit pathetic but with the rest of my life on fire, I want to feel like I am getting somewhere and making progress at least in something. Though as I type that I realise that I am making progress with my running which is something to be pleased about.

Welcome Stompy. Do you know why you gained the weight back? It's certainly not a character flaw as unfortunately the majority of people do gain it back as has happened to me in the past too. I think it is essential to learn from past experiences and not make the same mistakes again. For me, I learnt that I absolutely could not have too much calorie restriction or I will binge. Made that mistake in June before going on holiday and it was carnage. So 5:2 and Slimfast would be a disaster for me. Slimfast does not have a good reputation on these boards as a lot of people can't stick to it. 5:2 has a better reputation but really depends on how it fits in with your lifestyle. I lurk on a lot of other threads too and think there is a wealth of information in other people's real life experiences. There's definitely no one right way. Best of luck with whatever you decide.

Holy fuck, Post, that is some day! I have been there too knowing that I have to eat food that doesn't suit my plans to avoid offending people and fit in socially. Wild boar?! A run is not worth that! Still, the training will improve your parkrun pb Grin

Welcome umpteen. I'm another who thought that the claims of much increased energy with weight loss and more exercise were bullshit but it's really true. I am shocked at the difference and it's given me a lot of motivation. I ran 5 miles today which would have been just laughable last year!

You sound very pragmatic, honey, which I think is half the battle with KOKO so well done you.

Congratulations on your green belt, moonlight. Remind me to be unfailingly polite to you from now on Grin

Great to see you again, notanurse. I didn't realise that you never got your posts back. That's rubbish.

Excellent progress photos, strawberry. You look great!

Welcome to the other newbies and hello again to the other regulars. Keep going, folk Thanks
