We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

hello everyone. I know I've been away for ages. I'm trying to catch up with everyone's news, there is so much of it! Thank you also to every one who has PMed me.

I've taken a few weeks off the healthy eating - a setback I think of my post op recovery. But I'm back on it.

I had a NSV yesterday, I went to bravissimo to have a fitting, my bras were seriously too big, I've only bought one new one since starting to lose weight last January. I have gone from a 44 f to a 36 ff which made me laugh a lot (though very carefully as I was topless at the time!). I've almost forgotten the feeling of not being able to buy any clothes in "normal" shops and yesterday reminded me that I've lost 6 dress sizes and can never go back to the way I used to be.

AnotherOtter - really sorry you have been in hospital, glad to see that you are recovering. Hope things improve for you soon.

Post - things sound really hard and full on for you at the moment, take care.

Honeysuckle - congrats on the parkrun!

FATE -well done on all the weight loss!

Apologies for missing loads of people off and hi to all the newbies. My one bit of advice is KOKO and little by little (and sometimes lot by lot) you will make it.

honeysucklejasmine · 02/10/2018 16:18

nurse! Flowers how lovely to hear from you! Well done on the NSV! I definitely need to Koko, I'm feeling really down on myself at the moment. Bleh.

Hi. Can I join please. I am 14st 13 and would like to drop to about 9 stone. I am only 5ft 2.
My weight has yoyoed over the years and I realise I now need to take control again.
I am using my fitness pal.
Thank you

MagicKeysToAsda · 02/10/2018 21:13

Brilliant NSV Notanurse and excellent image of you giggling away in the changing room Grin

Honeysuckle you have totally got this, promise. The only way through a slump is grimly one step at a time. This will pass, and you will get past this [insert very rude word of your choice] stone barrier into a new number. I am in the same mud-patch as you, it keeps sucking me back by the wellies, but we WILL get to the other side. In the meantime, excited eeeeeps from me about your size 14, well done!!

Welcome badhairday I hope you have a good week.

Travis1 · 02/10/2018 21:28

Slimming world weigh in tonight. I’m calorie counting but using SW for weighing. 5lbs off!

Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... Part 6!
honeysucklejasmine · 02/10/2018 21:32

Welcome badhair

Magic you are right. I think this week is going to be bad - so much going on... But I am trying to not make it worse, I'm just going with the flow. DS's left over birthday cake is bloody delicious though and is so rich it's lasting forever. But I figure, ok, if this week is bad, that sucks. But I've been logging my food and losing consistently since February. I know I can do this. I will do it again. Right now I am 73lbs lighter than I was. 73lbs!

OP posts:
honeysucklejasmine · 02/10/2018 21:36

Apparently that's the weight of an average 11yr old. Or 100 cans of beer.

Fucking hell.

Thank you. Feeling positive.

Welcome Badhair. Lovely to see you Notanurse, sorry things have been tough with your recover. Hopefully this time next year that will feel like a distant memory and 6 dress sizes is just brilliant!

Honeysuckle, Magic is very wise and speaks the truth! I think we start off and it feels a bit like an impossible mountain to climb, all that weight to lose. Then after a bit you settle into a pattern, weight comes off fairly regularly activity increases and you think excellent, I’ve changed my lifestyle. But half a year, year, two years ks early days in this and it’s very hard to keep consistently motivated and personally I think dips are inevitable.

But you do totally have this, you have lost an amazing amount of weight (how careless of you to lose an 11 year old, i’ll Lend you my 15 year old instead Grin) and not only that, you grew a whole new person at the same time which is pretty miraculous in my book! The rest will come off and it’s one week, you can deal with it and don’t give the cake more power than it deserves, it is just cake.

It’s all still a touch difficult here, Monday was literally shit when sewage flooded my back garden. I got through lunch with Neighbour in Care Home ok, we sat at table I had my last meal with my Mum at but it was ok. The beginnings of the structure of new house layout emerging and DD is settling ok into course and new job I think though her partner isn’t. I’m off to a family celebration abroad at weekend and will see my Aunt and Cousin for first time in 8 years and first time since Mum died. So I think k it will be quite emotional and most definitely carby as my Aunt into Kaffe Trinken which involves copious amount of cake but as said above,it’s just cake and I’ll get through.

Have put on, 2 and a quarter lb from end of July and 3.5lb from post op puking. I’m 101.5lb down at moment and I’ve decided to pretty much call goal. 1 and a quarter lb takes me to half s stone over top of BMI range and I pass the string test. Had 3 periods so far since Aug 7th and a couple have been long and I think my hormones are all over the place, it’s making maintaining hard and I think i’ve Got a fair amount more of the hormone stuff to come so maintaining will be hard enough at this point.

Finally (excuse the length of this) I had a lovely NSV. Friend and I have taken to fast walking up hills after dog walking. Someone at her exercise class said to her the other day they had seen her anf friend doing exercise to keep lovely and slim as we are. He is about 80 and I suspect eyesight might be a touch ropey but it was very nice to hear as she really is lovely and slim!

fezzesarecool · 03/10/2018 08:04

PostNotInHaste Fantastic NSV, lovely to hear that

Good call on the BMI. I’m aiming for the middle of healthy BMI but like you I’ll decide nearer the time and plus you’re passing the string test.

I’ve been questioning BMI lately but I’m still till early to think about trying different theories yet. However what’s making me question is that I have a clear memory of going to a nurse health check when I was about 15 (on my own) and weighing in at 10st 10lbs and being told I was overweight and then crying about it.

Looking at the pictures I was fine and to be completely honestly you can’t see a bit of fat on me and I was a size 12. I ate very healthy for that time in my life.

I think although the nurse was right to say that to me as it should have been put in a better context to me and checking now it was only 6lbs into that category.

So that’s making me think about BMI being more a guideline and to look at different measurements at a later stage.

moonlight1705 · 03/10/2018 08:13

Welcome back notanurse - good to see you are still KOKO despite everything.

honey wow a size 14 is amazing! I would kill to be under a size 16 at the moment. It must be a lovely feeling to be able to buy clothes in a normal shop without having to ask if they do bigger sizes.

Post oh dear, that does sound a bit of a shit Monday, hope your trip to see family goes well. Love your NSV though

I'm having a bit of a bad week in terms of food binging so have made a decided effort today not to leave the office to 'pop' to the shop at lunch. Got a nice healthy lunch all sorted plus fruit as a snack.

On the plus side, I am officially a green belt now Grin

PostNotInHaste · 04/10/2018 07:22

That’s brilliant Moonlight, congratulations! Good plan re the lunches.

Fezzes yes sensible to evaluate nearer the time probably. I think BMI works for the overwhelming majority of people but when you have a lot to lose being anywhere near it is a massive achievement. Without doubt I would be better off with a little bit more off and I may yet in the future have a go but for now I’m happy where I am and delighted to be here. BMI 26 this morning and given it was 43, huge improvement.

I did read about BMi and frame size. My wrist measurement does come out as large frame if it’s to be believed plus I am well endowed on chest front and when I was 21 and near bottom of BMI range even friends of same size and weight at the time who I consider sensible were freaking out so I think top end of range was always going to be where I end up at this age. Another 5 weeks and it will be 2 years since I started as I’d been at it for 6 weeks before thread started January 2017.

Honeysuckle, how is this week going ?

honeysucklejasmine · 04/10/2018 13:39

Ok so far Post. Thank you so much for your kind words and your offer of your teenager. However, I am a secondary teacher and no such fool - you can keep them! 😂

This week so far ... It's not been great food wise but it's not been terrible either. The cake is now gone. It was only cake but it was a vegan, gluten and soya free cake, so the first actual tasty cake I've eaten in almost a year. Well worth the wait but proved my willpower still needs work!

Thank you moonlight. It certainly makes clothes shopping more expensive though - so much I can fit in, loads more finds it's way to the checkout...

So, in a bid to be more positive. We went on a day trip to Westonbirt Arboretum near Cirencester yesterday. Beautiful autumn colours. Also walked 5.2km, literally without breaking a sweat. There were two trails and we did them both. Old me would have panicked at the idea of the first one (1 mile) and maybe dragged myself around it, plotting what excuses I could make to stop. New me did it no problem, then happily headed off along the second, 2 mile, trail too! Unthinkable.

Measurements have started to move downwards again too and so I'm feeling relatively hopeful that the scales will budge eventually. I think I'll be looking at next spring before reaching my new, 8 stone off, goal. But hey, no worries. 8 stone ffs, it's obviously going to take a while!

Still struggling with body image a bit, but I'll get there.

FATEdestiny · 05/10/2018 10:33

My STS weigh in this week does not do justice to the hard work I've put in to drop 4 POUNDS!

Three birthday celebrations last weekend (DD4, mine and DS9) meant a massive 4lb gain from my Friday weigh day to Monday. So I've slogged my guts out this week to get back on track and am very pleased with losing 4lb in 5 days to be back to where I was last Friday.

Went over on my ankle Sunday evening, when adding in an extra 8km run after my 10km in the morning. I don't normally run in the dark and neither do I normally do 2 runs in a day, but I wanted to start working off all the birthday indulgence. Well it backfired because as a result of twisting my foot sidewards, I've been unable to run all week. Have managed a dog walk with a heavily strapped ankle each day though.

It's getting better now, strapping is off. So hoping to start running again next week.

honeysucklejasmine · 05/10/2018 13:34

Well done fate! I know what you mean about STS being a victory in the context of the week you've had. I don't think I've fought hard enough to get a STS this week, so huge well done to you! I hope your ankle recovers quickly.

OP posts:
strawberrypig · 05/10/2018 18:02

Ohhh Fate, that sounds painful. Well done on STS though, a major achievement.

I am, at last, moving downwards again after a month of yo-yoing. I lost a couple of pounds and I am now at 35lbs off since I began. However I did lose inches in September so I think my body was just recalibrating.

fezzesarecool · 05/10/2018 18:36

Eeek
Going out for a curry

Anyone good on helping me out on the calorie count

I’m thinking of
Chicken tikka stater (to have as my main)
Sagg Aloo (shit loads of calories)
Plain rice
Chapatti

So my calculation is around the 1,000 calorie mark, just wondering if anyone else is coming up with around the same? Thanks!

fezzesarecool · 05/10/2018 23:22

Nevermind, eaten and had a few drinks so that’s well over 🤣

365 days = 365 opportunities 😄

fezzesarecool · 06/10/2018 07:55

Week 32 Exercise Week 28 Calorie counting
This week 187

Woohoo-1! Very happy as things look like they’re moving again 😄 Have a great weekend everyone

FATEdestiny · 06/10/2018 07:58

Sounds like you had a great night fezzesarecool. As long as these indulgences are in the context of an overall healthy diet, then I definately don't see it as a problem.

MagicKeysToAsda · 06/10/2018 08:37

Finally through the stone barrier I've been hovering around for weeks by half a pound. One pound off this week, a testament to KOKO because I haven't done much that was radically different to other weeks. Thursday was a particular struggle not to eat my feelings, and I did go slightly over - but tried to start over on Fri, not thinking about trying to make up the difference, just having a normal day. All part of trying to follow Post's advice to not give the cake (or in my case choc) too much power Grin It's just food, not a reason to punish myself afterwards.

fezzesarecool · 06/10/2018 08:48

FATEdestiny It was good thanks. Tbh it’s the third week in a row where I’ve gone out/had a treat (wedding, Nando’s, Curry) so it was a bit sooner that I would like to have done something. But it was a new friend that invited me out so it was a thing where I couldn’t say no.

I know in the last 2 years I’ve let my friendships slip because I was feeling so crappy about myself and didn’t see the point of getting dressed up and truthfully was too self conscious. I remember some bitch looking at what was in my plate and then at me last year where I went out for my anniversary dinner and actually going to get my baby weighed and someone in the waiting room keep commenting that my boy was ‘solid’ and looking at me 😢 So I think over the years these little comments/bitches here and there started to get in my head.

So yeah it’s a bit weird I’ve basically gone from never going out to a suddenly flurry of activity. Although obviously I want to lose I looking at maintenance for these kind of times as a minimum. As thinking about it going forward I will be making the effort more socially however I need to learn to do that within reason and control. So all this week I was eating low calories and exercising, yesterday (before drinking) I was on maintenance calories and today it’s low calories and exercising ( probably a lovely slow stroll 🤣)

But in general I’m feeling really positive today, 90lb in 32 weeks 😄

(Random question, in general do people see having a curry as a indulgence? I know going out to eat/having a takeaway is but is a homemade curry a indulgence?)

fezzesarecool · 06/10/2018 08:53

In fact if I counted my food right including drink yesterday I had 1627 calories! So impressed with myself! We shared the rice and sag aloo.

fezzesarecool · 06/10/2018 09:21

Double checked yesterday’s food diary and realised I ended missing breakfast as I had a hectic time before the school run and end up at a meeting so didn’t get home till lunch so that wasn’t done on purpose but it ended up being a big help

strawberrypig · 06/10/2018 10:10

Home made curry is one of my staples! Really good for you, full of fibre and vitamins and chilli increases the metabolism 🌶. I have quite a lot of indulgences but I am not in a race. I have lost weight before by being super strict and then I just slid back into eating too much and back to square one.

For me it is all about portion control and making the best choices I can. I do find my weight loss slows down if I cut back too much on both fats and carbs though.
