We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Oh that’s so kind of you Fezzes to link those videos. I get so breathless but I’m going to try them, I promise.

fezzesarecool · 26/09/2018 16:14

Retreatbynameretreatbynature Honestly they are simple and low impact. I was breathless just walking up the stairs and these ones were a bit hard at first but watching them no a OMG type hard. More a mangeable for me at that time with zero level of fitness.

Just start off small and modify the moves however you need to. So star jumps were a box step instead, jogging was a march.

My challenge to myself was the Beverly Callard promised me rapid results in 10 weeks and she delivered! I started off by doing only 10 minutes a day of just her one for a couple of weeks and did a bit longer once I felt ready.

It doesn’t matter at this point what you do or even how you do it (as long as you are safe doing it) but just build in the habit and move more than you are right now.

And most importantly do what is going to work for you and your lifestyle.

For me the DVDs fits in perfectly around the kids schedules, it’s free, no equipment needed unless you want (I use weights and my baby gets to be a weight too!) and it stops me making excuses/putting up obstacles to why I can’t get exercise in my day.

I’m sure loads of people will be around later on who may have some other suggestions for you too.

fezzesarecool · 26/09/2018 16:50

Opinions please

I don’t normally roll over/calorie cycle. As I’ve not been on point on lately I’m making a real effort to get some bonus exercise in as there’s a Nando’s booked for Friday.

I’ve worked out what is likely to be my order and the calorie count and I either have to work off the calories that I will eat during the day or the actual meal.

Anyway should I log in my bonus calories on the day’s I do it or for the Friday?

joystir59 · 26/09/2018 17:07

I'm almost 61,5' 7" tall and wear size 18 trousers and size 20/22 tops. No idea what I weigh but definitely too much! Have been everything from size 10 upwards. I really cannot diet any more,it always results in rebound eating. I'm just trying to est less and walk more- the dog helps.

MagicKeysToAsda · 26/09/2018 18:39

Welcome joy sounds like you know yourself pretty well - I think we're all trying to find the right long term way of eating. I know for me I will always need to keep some sort of eye on myself - I do not have the ability to achieve a healthy balance without thinking about it!

Fezzes could you look at the week as a whole, so it's not so much about which day you log the exercise calories burned, just that you've got them recorded for the week? I don't track calories from exercise so you may rightly decide to ignore me Grin

fezzesarecool · 27/09/2018 07:02

MagicKeysToAsda Thanks, I’ll do it as normal. I do normally not eat back exercise calories (Same difference as you not tracking them) So you’re right, better in this situation to look at the week as a whole week.

I’m logging the exercise on the day that I do it as usual and then keeping a separate note of the bonus calories so I know Nando’s is covered. Plus I feel that this week calorie cycling is a one off and that will come into play at maintenance.

I’ve got major AF bloat too at the moment 😫

PostNotInHaste · 27/09/2018 07:21

Feeling a bit dozy and not entirely with it looking at it on weekly basis is good plan. I do that, each morning work out difference between in and out (positive or negative ) and have a yellow sticky on phone to jot it down. Then at end of week I aim to be at 0 for maintenance or 3500 deficitbif trying to lose a pound.

I find it works well with my mind set and gives me flexibility to cope with unexpected things that pop up and flexibility on hungry days which are cropping up at moment as have only had a few days not bleeding since first week of August and finding PMT style days keep cropping up so run with them best I can. I also have a vague theory that calorie cycling mimics how our ancestors would have eaten and given the easy availitynof food is reallynrecent in evolutionary terms, our bodies are adapted to deal with it. Probably bollocks but I like the idea of it.

fezzesarecool · 27/09/2018 07:44

PostNotInHaste Definitely like the idea for maintenance.

Although I don’t normally eat back the calories I exercise for weight loss.

This week is the first time I’ve exercise to be ‘able’ to eat as I’ve had some bad weeks etc it’s been all about damage limitation the following week and that’s now been a few weeks in a row so I had to break that cycle to get back to normal again. But I don’t want to get into the mindset of exercising to be ‘able’ to eat IFSWIM.

By maintenance I want to be exercising as part as normal life so that’s when calorie cycling will be the way forward and as you said then I’ve got the allowance built in for bad days/treats and will be able to eat as at a higher maintenance allowance overall. Which is why I’ve been so fixed on finding my exercise thing! So the overall week that’s been suggested sounds like the best maintenance plan for me.

Great ideas on here that is noted for future and more immediately the Christmas period!

PostNotInHaste · 27/09/2018 11:46

I exercise to have my cake and eat it Grin

fezzesarecool · 27/09/2018 13:37

Woohoo, hit 906 on my bonus calories so can definitely ‘afford’ a Nando’s! (Done over a couple of days on top on of my normal 500 burn).

Also made a break through on pushing through. I was really tired today and at the start of exercise I was very half hearted and surprisingly was going full pelt after the first 10 minutes.

Definitely helps my mindset with the current yo-yo of my mojo. Ive recently been getting a bit fed up as in I’ve lost 6stone but still got 4 to go and I’ve been like I just want to be already done with it. But today’s been a big lesson in really focusing and getting on with it.

honeysucklejasmine · 27/09/2018 17:46

I'm also fed up this week. These last few pounds have simply crawled by. I'm so bored of seeing 14 something. I need to psychological boost of 13, even if it's 13,13.75

OP posts:
Getoffthetableplease · 28/09/2018 07:54

The next stone bracket is such a boost isn't it. I am often up and down around this mark, currently 16 stone 9, and don't think I'll actually believe I'm losing anything until I'm down to 15 something. Have lost another 2lbs this week, and have managed a fair amount of walking too, but I just feel so pap and bloated atm that I'm still a bit meh. I think I can thank my period for that though! I'm really enjoying doing the 5:2 plan, although it's so hard to get my head around not having to be strict all the time. I'm a bit all or nothing with food, so I think this might actually help teach me to have those strict days to balance my normal ones!

Anyone else find the weather/light changes having a negative knock on effect with motivation, my sleep has been all over the place at the mo which never helps.

fezzesarecool · 28/09/2018 08:05

honeysucklejasmine Getoffthetableplease We just need to mojo to get going as by Monday it’s 12 weeks till Christmas and then we can do maintenance! The problem is getting it kick started, mine’s returned but AF bloat isn’t helping 😫 but I’m trying to hold on to the thought that next weekend I should see a good result on the scales.

The positive it’s lack of mojo is good practice for when we get to maintenance and getting ourselves in check.

honeysucklejasmine · 28/09/2018 08:24

Ok, I'm up for a 12 weeks challenge! Ok, so, I will aim:

To exercise at least every other day (I usually do this anyway).
To limit a post dinner snack to 100 cals max.
Always have a drink before a snack.
Do not "just have one here and there" of anything/no picking at things.

I think those are the things I'm struggling with at the moment.

OP posts:
moonlight1705 · 28/09/2018 08:48

Oh my mojo has gone completely this week as well - I've eaten utter crap most days and have somehow gone back onto sugar cravings.

Aim 12 weeks before Christmas is to fill up on my nice healthy lunches that I actually prepare and don't pop to the shop for an extra chocolate bar.

Getoffthetableplease · 28/09/2018 09:37

Right, for my 12 weeks til Christmas challenge I'm going to:

-stick to my tdee calories for non fast days. It's 2054kcals for maintenance, which is fine if I then fast at 500kcals for two days - just need to remember to recalculate as my weight goes down. I use tdeecalculator.net if anyone wants to see theirs.

-get back to having min 8 glasses of water a day in addition to other drinks

-get back to taking my iron tablets so I can hopefully shake a bit of this slug off!

Getoffthetableplease · 28/09/2018 10:26

Just realised I'd knocked 100lb off myself to calculate today, haha wishful thinking. Still at least I actually can have 2700kcals a day.

honeysucklejasmine · 28/09/2018 12:28

Oooh I'll add to mine:

  • get to an "overweight" BMI by Christmas (need to lose 1 stone to achieve that, just over a pound a week)

That one will be a challenge!

OP posts:
fezzesarecool · 28/09/2018 13:10

honeysucklejasmine I’m with you on that one, 12 pounds for me to hit overweight so almost the same weight loss goal for us both!

Travis1 · 28/09/2018 13:41

Hiiiii!!! Looking to join in with you guys if that's ok?

Starting Weight - 302lbs
Current weight - 276lbs
First Target(BMI 35 to go to doctors for referral for fertility treatment) - 224lb
Second Target(BMI 30 to qualify for treatment) - 192lbs
Final Target(Healthy BMI) - 161lbs - tbf this is probably a pipe dream, as long as I can get to the weight for treatment I'm happy to then go with how my body feels/looks

I'm currently calorie counting and exercising after years of different diets. Aiming for approx 2200 calories a day and to have burned 3200 each day(fitbit versa) .

Current exercise regime is weights at the gym at least 3 x per week and 3-5 metafit/les mills type classes.

I have PCOS and the main aim of the weightloss is to get pregnant but I'm honestly loving the difference my losses have made so far. It's not coming off quick by any stretch of the imagination but it's coming off and I'm looking better than I have for as long time.

MagicKeysToAsda · 28/09/2018 16:11

Welcome Travis that's a great motivation!

I am definitely up for a 12 week challenge, great idea Fezzes. Mine is also definitely the stone by Christmas, just like you two Smile This week has been a bit easier than last, but still tough going. Weds was particularly rough, as lots of emotional stuff going on, and the desire to reach for the sugar was so, so strong.

Initially: a 3 week challenge (gulp). In three weeks I will be running my first 5k race. I have mapped a 5k route and can now do that, but very slowly, and I know the race also includes hills...practice is needed!

I think I remember Tractors saying this group had noticed people often found it harder to stay on track around the time the clocks were changing - we're not quite at that time yet, but not far off!

strawberrypig · 28/09/2018 17:40

I'm in an identical position, but do you know the fabulous thing? 32lbs ago I wouldn't have been able to spot the bloating, shows our tummies are coming down!

Welcome Travis, we have a group baby on the way so if you sit on Moonlight's chair you may speed things along.

For my 12 week challenge I will step up my food preparation routine and aim to have healthy packed lunches. I made a gorgeous lentil soup that I took in a couple of days this week. I will also knock bread on the head again, I had cut it out completely and I felt so much better for it.

Lastly I will start rubbing aloe Vera gel in again religiously. Great for tightening skin and having to acknowledge my body helps both my will power and my morale.

I spent years avoiding mirrors and photos, future generations are going to think I did a 10 stretch in prison as I am missing from practically every family pic!

moocowmrs · 28/09/2018 18:22

11.2 lb down !! Over 10 % if they way there, since 1st September.

I am finding quick dinners a challenge things that I would have had like pesto and pasta etc are so high in calories so give me your best quick evening meals please !

JakeBallardswife · 28/09/2018 18:47

I’m joining in too. 6 st to lose

honeysucklejasmine · 28/09/2018 19:04

Hi Travis and Jake! Welcome, welcome.

Magic exciting about your race! I've done parkrun a few times but I'm nowhere near running it. In the spring I might do C25K again, but I'm definitely a fair weather runner.
