We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

🤚hi all massive NSV, just got in from a wedding and I feel fantastic in myself tonight and really felt like I’ve got me back now

Although probably went up to well over 2500+ tonight with all the food and drink. But it was well worth it as it was a special day and great to have a day off and just enjoy myself. This coming week will be all about damage control from tonight but I’m ok with that.

I did weight in this morning-1 and will update later.

FATEdestiny · 23/09/2018 07:01

Feeling like you again is probably the single most important NSV there is fezzesarecool.

Defo don't stress the calorie intake for such a special occasion, it will be worth it. I hope your head doesn't hurt too much this morning though!

I stood on the scales this morning to be 1.5lb up after running 21km yesterday. It must be either muscle building or water retention from muscle damage since my food intake remained healthy and low calorie, so I'm not worried.

fezzesarecool · 23/09/2018 08:07

FATEdestiny Feeling a bit rough and I’ve got work in a bit. Hopefully the rain will keep the customers away.

honeysucklejasmine · 23/09/2018 11:32

Lost this week: 0.75lbs
Total loss: 73.25lbs
To lose: 38.75lbs

Small loss this week. Think I'm also struggling with water retention after Parkrun - certainly my muscles are stiff and sore. I think if I'm going to keep up Parkrun I need to swap my weigh day to Saturday, otherwise I'm not going to get a clear picture. I also need to get long running trousers because I was cold yesterday. I potentially also need to get some tena product or other if I'm going to jog without worrying about wetting myself. Blush

Today I have a NSV though. In Summer 2016 I won some really funky Slugs and Snails tights (www.slugsandsnails.ie/shop/storm-adult-limited-edition/) which have sat in my drawer ever since because the biggest size was 16-18. I'm wearing them today though. And very cool they are too.

Well done everyone .

MagicKeysToAsda · 23/09/2018 20:59

Excellent victories on and off the scale people - great running Fate, and those legs look fab Honeysuckle!

fezzesarecool · 24/09/2018 11:49

Start 278

Last week 189
Week 30 Exercise Week 26 Calorie counting
This week 188

Week loss -1
Total loss -89

Goal 136lb
Left to lose 57lb
Start to lose 142lb

Late with the weekend weigh in! So lost 1lb which was very badley needed as I said before this week is going to be very much damage control from the wedding.

Just some random thoughts. Around this time last year I had another wedding and this is when the whole obese thing really hit me hard. I felt really horrible, I couldn’t wear a dress and what I did wear Although was nice it really made me feel frumpy and old. I went I was miserable and so uncomfortable in myself. Looking at the photos you can see I’m not happy and how unhealthy I looked. My friend even commented about how I wasn’t myself.

I remember clearly thinking this is it for me, I’m stuck like this now and I felt completely defeated and lost. I tried to put a face on but I was so self conscious.

Fast forward a year and I felt fantastic. I looked great and felt it. I had a lot of fun and I was so relaxed and happy. It’s crazy what a difference the 30 weeks diet and exercise has made. I even posed for loads of photos and no cringing at all looking at them! 😄

So just got to focus and finish this now! So glad I’ve got you lots to help me there.

And also a massive thank you helping me out with the dress panic.

Actually one more thing, as it was raining and I haven’t got a lot of clothes I had to do a emergency dash to the nearest shop on Saturday morning. I waltzed in picked up a few size 16’s and had my pick of whatever I wanted before dashing out again.

How crazy is that! To be able to walk into any shop and to know that I would be able to pick up my size without a problem!

Before I would have had to go to a plus size shop which would be over 20 minutes drive away and had to have picked something just because it was my size or in this situation not got anything.

I’ll try and have a catch up with the thread but from the skim read, a bit well done to everyone koko.

FATEdestiny · 24/09/2018 12:51

I can totally identify with being in awe at being able to pick anything off the rails without first seeking out what's avaliable in my size.

In fact, I've gone a little the other way. Bras are a good example. I've gone from being too big chested (46D) to buy a bra in ASDA all the way to the other extreme of now being too small chested to buy in ASDA (32F - they only do 32s in small cups)

Shitty 2lb on over the weekend. Official weigh day isn't until Friday but it'll be hard work just to maintain this week. I saw the same uplift on the scales when I did my first 10 miles run. This weekend was my first half marathon and I was really careful with my nutrition too! Grrr.

Getoffthetableplease · 24/09/2018 14:35

Fezzes that was so inspiring to read, I cannot wait to have those carefree, happy moments again and have photos taken without inwardly cringing at best. You're doing an awesome job.

Could your gain be in any way down to water retention after your mega run FATE? I know how demotivating it can be when the scales aren't kind though, even if you know it's just a temporary thing. A half marathon is seriously impressive!

fezzesarecool · 24/09/2018 15:29

Getoffthetableplease Trust me if I can do it then you definitely can! It’s funny how we’ve all got use to being a way of life for us but lots of others on here have done it and Ive been in your position thinking will that ever be me? And now I’m getting closer and thank you for saying it was inspiring that helps me to keep going Smile

fezzesarecool · 24/09/2018 15:30

FATEdestiny Although it is also hard being the other way around it must feel good not to be embarrassed that your size isn’t there so another NSV for you!

PostNotInHaste · 24/09/2018 19:56

Asda do the adding inches to the band size I think from memory having read the measuring guide thinking that’s a bit ridiculous about the 32.

FATEdestiny · 25/09/2018 10:01

I never do the "add 4 inches" thing, regardless what the manufacturer says. Having changed bra size a million times over the last 9 months, I have discovered I like the Bravissimo no measuring method best. Where you just put a bra on and look/feel where it doesn't fit properly and change sizes accordingly.

Well actually, I do measure but just for a start point. I use the Mumsnet bra intervention method to get a start point for my size. Then I take about 6 or 8 bras in the changing room which are in and around the start-point-size and just see which sits best when on.

Getoffthetableplease I think if my weight upswing after a long distance run was down to water retention, it would reduce along with the muscle soreness. But it doesn't usually, I have to work it off. I don't mind though, my mindset is definitely settled into the ethos that being healthy is a long term thing. I recognise that running a HM is a healthy thing to do regardless of what the scales say afterwards.

My littlest's birthday tomorrow. She'll be 4. My birthday the day after, I'll be 42. This time 4 years ago I was massive (in every sense) and 14 days overdue!

honeysucklejasmine · 26/09/2018 13:01

Happy birthday to your little one, fate

I'm proper fed up that my running weight hasn't gone away. But I did 1hr aerobics on Monday and did just under 4k of walk-jog-walk with the buggy on Tuesday so I guess if I keep stimulating the muscles, it won't go anywhere.

Today I have been clambering round a soft play structure for an hour so probably won't disappear today either! Oh well. Just thinking what exercise I've done since Saturday - there's no way I would have dreamed of doing that a few months ago.

OP posts:
FATEdestiny · 26/09/2018 13:35

I had a low calorie day yesterday. I'm not calorie counting but was aiming for under 1000 calories as an estimation. Along with no carbs (just for the day) and no breakfast (so a bit of 16:8). Scales showed that the 2lb upswing after my HM on Saturday have now gone and I'm back to where I was on Friday. I think the mini fast day helped.

Just ready for the start of several days of cake and party food. I shall try damage limitation.

Retreatbynameretreatbynature · 26/09/2018 14:02

Oh how I need this group’s support. I have 10 stone to lose (how have I got to this point?) 😢 I don’t even know where to begin but I feel I have to do something as my weight is literally killing me. I’m out of breath even walking upstairs, it’s agony to walk on my feet, I’m so miserable. But I have three disabled DCs and my life is so stressful and isolating that comfort eating is my only release. I have no-one in RL who I can turn to. I know it’s up to me to be here for my darling DCs for as long as I can but each day is so mentally exhausting, supporting their needs, that there’s no energy left for me. Please can someone help. Thank you.

honeysucklejasmine · 26/09/2018 14:33

Have a lovely time fate

Hi retreat, welcome! We tend to say to new people to work out what your "issue" is first, and work with that. So mine was binge eating. Others struggle just with portion control or with having a specific food which is their nemesis. It's then easier to decide what to do.

Making broad assumptions here, I don't mean to offend - I imagine you are time poor, so pre-prepared meals might be a good option; but I imagine, like most carers of disabled children, cash isn't exactly overflowing*, and pre-prepared tend to be expensive. Do you have any time to batch cook at all? Perhaps when another adult is around? That might be a solution - we can certainly help with recipe ideas. What sorts of things do you like?

Fezzes can furnish you with links to YouTube videos to get you moving when you have a chance - she's a queen at making the most of dead time to get healthier.

And remember, all of us have been there and we all know how it feels, so feel free to whinge at us about hard days and how you're feeling - we'll understand.

*And how wrong is that?! Disgusting that carers of disabled children are treated so poorly. My brother is disabled and we're lucky that the NHS (currently) fund his care, or it would be really hard.

Losers, I need some motivation! I've got stuck in maintenance mode and need a push to start losing the lbs again. On the plus side the past month has reassured me that I can happily live on a maintenance diet for the rest of my life but I have to lose the weight first!

I've been looking into changing careers recently and may be going back to uni next September, I am definitely not going to be the eldest and the biggest student 👩‍🎓

MagicKeysToAsda · 26/09/2018 14:56

Hi Retreat!
I am a single parent to just 1 child with extra needs. I understand the worry about needing to stay healthy to look after them, set against using food to get through very exhausting days and nights. I can't imagine how much harder that would be with more children Flowers

What started to shift my mindset was realising extra calories weren't actually giving me energy - they were making me more tired! That packet of biscuits wasn't "getting me through" a tough night - it was making it harder because I was heavier and heavier and my system was struggling to keep moving. That really kicked me into thinking differently and trying to change. I'm 5 stone down so far and have so much more energy I almost don't recognise myself!

Keep posting on here, everyone is so brilliant, and we're all trying to do the same thing Smile

MagicKeysToAsda · 26/09/2018 14:57

um where did the gin bottles come from? Bloody ap! Were supposed to be flowers!!

fezzesarecool · 26/09/2018 15:27

honeysucklejasmine 🤣 just what I needed to hear! I’m trying to get in bonus exercise calories as we’re having Nando’s this week!

With the loss of mojo week and then the wedding treat this is the only way I can justify having Nando’s on top of all that

Retreatbynameretreatbynature · 26/09/2018 15:29

Thank you so much honeysuckle for your kind words and advice, it means so much. You’re right, cash is very sparse and my DCs will always come first above anything I need. But you’ve given me food for thought (pardon the pun) about some batch cooking maybe. I’ll also try and look at the YouTube videos you suggested. Thanks also to Magic for your support and understanding, you have all done so well and your determination to succeed is truly awe-inspiring yet you still have the time to message me. 🌸🌸🌸 Wow, five stone lost and counting. How amazing is that and caring for a child with additional needs. Give yourself a big hug. Just reading your messages makes me feel less alone and a teeny tiny bit stronger with weight loss.

fezzesarecool · 26/09/2018 15:37

Retreatbynameretreatbynature hiya I will post some exercise links in a bit. There’s some you can just do throughout the day in 15minutes. Everyone’s doing different things at started exercising at different points in their journey.

I personally exercised at the start and the bonus to that is that at nearly 20st I burnt off a lot more calories in less time. Now I’m at the lower end of the obesity scale and I have to work out more intensively or for longer to burn the same calories I was before.

Also not the same but I have a 4 year old and a 23 month old then join in and I adapted the exercises around them, so punching is now hi fiving. And as honey said I use my dead time like when dinner’s cooking, waiting at clubs into a bonus exercise time. Also I find it a fantastic stress reliever.

fezzesarecool · 26/09/2018 15:41
