We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

That is really amazing, huge congratulations Fate!!!!

Sorry not around at moment, all a touch hectic. Hope you’re all ok.

strawberrypig · 21/09/2018 19:14

Congratulations Fate, so pleased for you.

honeysucklejasmine · 21/09/2018 20:01

Good luck to everyone weighing in this weekend.

I'm off to parkrun tomorrow and then heading straight to visit a friend in Bristol. I will look manky but we're taking the kids swimming so no beauty contests will be had.

Had to buy a new swimsuit though!

MagicKeysToAsda · 22/09/2018 08:34

You must feel really proud Fate that's such an achievement!

Hope park run and swim are good Honeysuckle you should sleep well after both of those in one day Grin

Just half a pound off for me today, but as I celebrated last weekend's 5 stone marker with cake, I'm OK with that! Goal for next week is to get into the next stone bracket down. Have had quite a few people notice this week which has been nice, and slightly counteracted the feelings from Monday when I was persuaded to join the playground mums' running group and I was very much the tortoise among the gazelles...will stick to running on my own usually I think, it's better for my headspace.

We have an incredibly quiet weekend planned, we're all shattered after a week of chesty colds. Hope you all have fun whatever you're up to!

FATEdestiny · 22/09/2018 09:12

I think celebrating 5 stone with cake is absolutely fine magic. I'm holding off celebrating my milestone because it's my birthday later next week, so I will combine celebrating my weight loss achievements with celebrating my birthday (hopefully thereby minimising the cakage consumed!)

I'm definitely a solo runner so absolutely agree that running on your own is better all-round. I'm often asked why I don't join Park run, or running groups, or local charity runs etc. Answer is always the same - I can't tolerate running with other people. I just want to run for me, at my pace and my distance.

On that point, I'm thinking of trying a half marathon soon. Not an event or race, just me running 13 miles, on my own, in one go. Just to see if I can do it.

SageMustard · 22/09/2018 13:00

Congratulations Fate !!! Amazing and so inspiring to open this thread and see!

Can I join please? There is exactly 100 lbs between my heaviest ever weight I hit at Christmas and my ideal weight.

Start: 228 lbs (16 st 4 lbs/BMI 37)
Now: 222 lbs (15 st 12 lbs/BMI 36)
Goal: 128 lbs (9 st 2 lbs/BMI 21)

I've made a little progress so far but not much! I going to follow a WFPB (whole foods plant based) diet as much as I can...I've already made a lot of permanent changes (food choices and mindset) to get there just need to concentrate on the last few tweaks.

My main 'barriers to success' have been my wine drinking and lack of consistent organisation around food. I also have a back issue and plantar fasciitis...being obese certainly doesn't help those! I've put new habits in place to help with all of these things though and feel like I am in a good place to really start now and lose this weight permanently.

wa1ru5 · 22/09/2018 16:26

Hi! This is just what I need! I can't afford a gym or sw at the moment, but I have about 140lb to lose. I have a 14mo boy and we want another, but I'd like to be in better shape second time round!

MagicKeysToAsda · 22/09/2018 17:11

Hello sage and wa1ru5 welcome aboard! I think many of us share the need to be fairly frugal - that could be why walking and running seem to be the most popular exercises in this group! I certainly picked couch to 5k because it was free, and quicker than going to a gym or anything as I could start from my front door, hence need less childcare time Grin

I had a wardrobe clear out today. Therapeutic but a bit odd feeling too. Most things I was happy to either chuck or charity shop, but I have 4 items that don't fit any more by miles but they were expensive...you know my dilemma! Daft really, as they're not doing me any good in the cupboard. I'm not buying loads of replacement bits as I'm not at the finish line yet, but as I've gone down 4 sizes I did think new pants were getting a bit urgent!

Thank you for the welcome Magic

How lovely to be having a wardrobe clear out because of going down 4 dress sizes! Would selling your more expensive items on eBay or similar help with letting them go?

Almost all of my wardrobe is crammed with clothes that are too small for me. I am planning to go through them and pack away the nicer bits in dress sizes to open up when I get back down to them. Might just start that tonight...instead of having the Saturday night wine!

I'm off to the pool in a minute to have a go at aqua Pilates - no instructor... just me and a woggle - see how it goes!

wa1ru5 · 22/09/2018 17:57

Hi! Grindefinitely sell the expensive stuff, will fund your new, smaller wardrobe!

FATEdestiny · 22/09/2018 18:15

"On that point, I'm thinking of trying a half marathon soon. Not an event or race, just me running 13 miles, on my own, in one go. Just to see if I can do it."

This was me at 9.13am this morning.

I've only gone and frigging done it!!

I ran a half marathon this afternoon. 21.1km took me two and a half hours in the rain. It feels amazing. I cannot quite believe it - I weighed 17st 8.5 with a BMI of 43 at Christmas. I couldn't even walk 5km, let alone run.

It's my 42nd birthday next week. I had no plans to lose weight on my last birthday (I started this as a new year whim). I cannot imagine what I'd have thought if I told myself that by my next birthday I'd have lost 7 1/2 stone and run a half marathon!

honeysucklejasmine · 22/09/2018 19:05

Thank you Magic and well done on your half a pound loss. Honestly, I understand the financial constraints of buying a new wardrobe but honestly, having clothes that actually fit will make you feel a million dollars. I shop cheaply (Matalan mostly) but it's worth it to have a boost from looking nice day to day.

Welcome sage. Well done on the pounds lost so far - starting is the hardest. Wine was a weakness of mine but pregnancy put an end to that one! I still have the odd glass now - I buy nice expensive bottles so it's a real treat - I often think twice about opening them; "is this really a special evening?" and it's broken the habit.

I'm not familiar with the eating plan you are following but plant based - are you veggie/vegan or just a health choice? I eat a lot of vegan food because DS is allergic to dairy and egg, and meat is expensive, so I try to get creative with interesting meals.

Wa1ru5 welcome to you too! Congratulations on your little one - do you find you get the chance to have some time to yourself at all? Some days are manic with my two and it's so easy to just grab junk. My particular weakness is the crusts of DD's peanut butter toast which she never eats. I've just about kicked that habit now though.

Pressed post too soon!

Fate omg. You are knocking it out of the park at the moment. Huge congratulations! What a change you've made!

Parkrun was good. I'm 6 mins faster without the double buggy - I'd hoped for more of a difference tbh but I'll take that! My pelvic floor (2 babies, 19 month gap) struggled a bit with the jogging so I had to swap to walking. But I did it!

Getoffthetableplease · 22/09/2018 19:35

Hey everyone, so much fitness talk, you're all so inspiring! Well done all of you Star

I lost 4 lbs this week which I am so so happy with. It all went really downhill after an indulgent weekend, so I decided to turn a dodgy slimming world week in to a 5:2 week and oh my it paid off! I felt really good after the fasting days too, so much so I've decided to swap to 5:2 full time Smile

SageMustard · 22/09/2018 19:55

Thank you Honey

WFPB is no meat, no dairy, no oil...and really should also be no salt, no sugar (added inc sweeteners), no alcohol too. I've been experimenting with it for about 18 months now off and on. The no meat thing has stuck. I can't remember the last time I had meat now - I would go as far as calling myself a vegetarian as even if I am having an off/binge day I won't touch meat. I very rarely have dairy in its obvious pure form (milk, cheese, eggs) but I will eat it if no option/it is in something. I am definitely not a vegan, yet, though. I've learnt to cook without oil and won't add it to salads etc but it does creep in in ingredients eg. shop bought hummous.

It was the documentary 'forks over knives' that first introduced me too it and since then I've bought books, watched other documentaries - vegucated/what the health/food choices etc. I've booked myself into a vegan cookery class next month which I'm really looking forward to. I started doing it for health (despite not being perfect with it by a long way and continuing to knock back the wine and not lose much weight (I do lose weight when following it better - dropping the vegan junk food and the wine!) my cholesterol has gone from 6 down to 4.7) but it is animal welfare and environmental factors that have kept me off the meat and dairy even when my health/weight loss mojo wanes (mainly wine and nibbles). I am ready to take it to the next level now and start removing this weight permanently.

Hello fellow new starter Wa1ru5!

SageMustard · 22/09/2018 19:57

That's fab Getoff - amazing turning it round like that!

honeysucklejasmine · 22/09/2018 20:18

GetOff wow! Talk about embodying "KOKO"! (Keep on keeping on, for our newbies). Huge congratulations, that's a great total.

Sage interesting! I couldn't give up meat entirely I don't think - DS is also allergic to soya so we can't eat meat replacement products. We certainly don't eat it every day though as it's pricey. Also, bacon sandwich is the food of the gods. I can quite happily live without milk and butter, but I do miss soft rind cheese a little bit. Eggs I love, I miss a runny yolk. It's DS' birthday soon and I've given up trying and ordered a gluten free cake from a local vegan bakery. Hopefully will be very tasty!

Hello all you fitness buddies! Wow, yet again another week of fab losses and lifestyle changes.

I've stayed the same this week which I'm still taking as a good week. Went out with DH tonight for an Indian, was proud to have chosen boiled rice and a tomato based curry rather than creamy Smile

Thank you everyone 😄.

Ah moonlight you must feel super proud of your good swaps still enjoying a meal out!

honeysucklejasmine · 22/09/2018 22:26

Ooooh moonlight. I love a good curry. I miss creamy curries. Yum.

I've reported the spammer. We do attract them now and then.

@honeysucklejasmine very little time for me unfortunately as I'm also back at work 3 days a week. My weakness is G's biscotti things, they're SO nice!

@SageMustard if it's no meat no dairy do you class yourself as vegan? I have such good plans for eating well and exercising but I have zero willpower!
