We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and all at different stages, but we’re all seeing some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food. It’s a long old road, but it helps to chat along the way

Collectively, we’ve lost an incredible…......... 🌟 1205.75lbs 🌟 since the start of the first thread in Dec 16, which is amazing!

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time, with whatever weight loss method you think works best for you. Some of us have lost more than others, but we're all in this together, so if you're losing, gaining or staying the same, it's nice to have some inspiration to keep going.

We’re always welcoming to newcomers, but as with the previous thread(s), I’ll add one caveat - we’re all here because we are trying to lose a LOT of weight. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this might not be the thread for you. Good luck with your goals, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals to you.

Magickeys, 5 stone a fantastic milestone, well done ! Moonlight agree about growing a person ! Well done Moocow

Good work Honeysuckle, can’t imagine doing it with a double buggy! There was one there today and my friend was saying what hard it must be and that was on paths. I was very well behaved, didn’t look at watch once and let DH and friend get in with it. Am finding not as hungry when I run a lot of the time which does seem a bit bizarre, though sometimes catches up with me the next day.

honeysucklejasmine · 15/09/2018 20:20

There was about 20m of tarmac per loop and honestly it was a million times easier than the other 1.2km of the loop. 😂 My next one I'll try to find a track that's tarmac most of the way and see if I can beat the time.

PostNotInHaste · 15/09/2018 20:51

I think you did brilliantly. Would definitely try to find somewhere else though as will get impossible to do with double buggy on grass in winter. Feel so much better for going and glad I didn’t push myself as DH and friend are currently suffering and I (so far) am ok..

strawberrypig · 16/09/2018 07:47

I've had a roller coaster of a fortnight weight wise. The day after weigh in last week I suddenly added 4lbs Confused I stuck to my eating plan but couldn't shift an ounce, had an amazing meal at my mum's (pork belly and mash with butter etc) and the weight decided to leave.

Week 17

Too confusing to say a total loss but net loss - 1.5lbs

Total loss - 32.5lb

Slower losses than a lot of you but I do eat the occasional non diet meal and still have the odd glass of wine so I can't complain. I am hoping that it means I can stick to this for life as well.

ChestyNut · 16/09/2018 09:19

Popping in to catch up.
Decided not to weigh in today as out drinking last night so probably a false weight from all the alcohol!

Holiday Friday so will be back to lose the inevitable gain in 3 weeks or so!

Have PMT. hangover and holiday panic Grin

honeysucklejasmine · 16/09/2018 10:41

Happy holiday, Chesty!

Loss this week: 1.75lbs
Lost to date: 72.75lbs
To lose (to new goal): 39.25lbs

Honestly a little disappointed this week, I've been doing loads of exercise and keeping within my calorie limits. I'm hoping it's a muscle gain or I'm a bit swollen from yesterday's exertions. Still, it's a respectable loss so KOKO!

OP posts:
AnotherOtter · 16/09/2018 11:16

Loss this week: 1.6lbs
Total loss: 94.6lbs
To go: 6.6lbs but probably 10.6lbs

Decent week for me. Got my three runs and my walking done and kept to my calorie budget. Felt a bit like comfort eating at times but held the line. It is a lot easier to avoid comfort eating, or even worse, binging, with this higher calorie budget. I had hoped to be at my target weight by now but I am trying to practise patience. Does not come easily Grin

Well done on the NSV too, Fate. Good time to suggest to any newbies that it can be good to take measurements as well as use the scales. I do bust, waist and hips but some folk do thigh and upper arm too.

Brilliant on doing the parkrun, honey! You will have got a good workout with the double buggy. Sore arms today?! I find I often have an upswing on the scales when I do more exercise than usual. I think the theory is that while you are exercising you have very wee tears in your muscles (which are what stimulates your body to decide to build more muscle) and when they are healing your body brings in a fair bit of fluid in the form of inflammation. It goes again in a couple of days.

Post, what a hell of a time you've had Thanks Dnds are very useful. Really hope things settle down for you this week.

Well done on the five stone milestone, Magic! Star I thought there was something special about five stones: made me think that I really could do it.

Moonlight, how is the shingles? I hope you are feeling better though I know it can be a bit of a long haul. I think it is perfectly okay to put on 2lbs when you are poorly and also growing another human being!

Oh Chesty Grin Have a great holiday.

How are you doing, notanurse? I hope you are recovering well.

Well done to everyone that has lost this week and KOKO to everyone else.

honeysucklejasmine · 16/09/2018 16:23

Argh, got my loss wrong. It's 1.5lbs. So 72.5 and 39.5. D'oh!

Hi I recently hit 40 and I had always promised myself to lose the weight by then and I still haven't. Been obese since I was about 19. Now I have currently 290lbs and about 150lbs overweight :(. I've tried every diet every plan known I think. Really could do with some advice help and support thanks x

fezzesarecool · 16/09/2018 18:27

Start 278

Last week 192
Week 29 Exercise Week 25 Calorie counting
This week 189

Week loss sts
Total loss -88

Goal 136lb
Left to lose 58lb
Start to lose 142lb

So I’m seriously suffering from a lack of mojo but hopefully a better week coming up, especially as dd will be full time at school. Amazingly enough I’ve sts so big yay on that one.

And a big congratulations to FATEdestiny on your 100lbs off!

MagicKeysToAsda · 16/09/2018 18:42

hi mrsdarcey welcome, you are absolutely not on your own with those numbers or those feelings. Can you identify what blocks you from sticking to the plans you tried before? We all have different challenges so I bet there's someone here who could say what might help you start. in the meantime, could you just start by aiming at 1 healthy day? Then when you're done, look at the next day. It's a long road we're all on, it gets really daunting to try and see all the way to the end at once.

Well done to everyone this week, especially all those recovering from poor health. Even just with a cold I have to fight the urge to over-feed myself!

strawberrypig · 16/09/2018 19:07

Hi MrsDarcy . The biggest thing I can advise is to not focus on the total amount but make a series of small targets. Do it in baby steps and it doesn't seem too overwhelming, take one day at a time and if you have a not so good day just start again the next day. Keep on keeping on (or KOKO) is the group motto and so true.

Getoffthetableplease · 16/09/2018 20:28

Hey everyone, well done on your losses! I've stayed the same this week, which I'm a bit peeved about, and probably wasn't well timed right before a weekend not thinking about food celebrating our wedding anniversary... now just to keep on and stay off the scales for the week!

fezzesarecool · 17/09/2018 11:56

Mojo is returning! Managed to do some serious exercise today 😄 Funny as well as it wasn’t a actual decision. It was just getting in from the school run and a automatic thing as I didn’t know what to do with myself. So while I’m still looking for my thing at least I’ve created the habit.

So 14 weeks till Christmas and 12lbs to be ‘just’ overweight, I would love to finish this year being overweight and not obese.

So considering half term and December madness and I’m setting myself a goal of 1 pound a week and fingers crossed I can do that over 10 weeks allowing for not so strict weeks.

FATEdestiny please remind me that at work I had some people come in training for a marathon in November and they bought a load of energy things that they swear by. I couldnt see it online but I can take a photo for you if it helps?

fezzesarecool · 17/09/2018 11:58

Actually I’ve found it, it’s some kind of energy gel. No idea on the calorie content or anything but maybe a future thing for you?

Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... Part 6!
FATEdestiny · 17/09/2018 12:33

Thanks fezzesarecool. Great to hear you got your mojo back. I'd say 12lb by Christmas is totally doable!

I've seen these energy gel things mentioned on the running threads. My worry is the calories. It's so hard knowing I need you furl myself for long runs, while still also aiming to lose weight. I think it's more carbs I need for my long runs, so these might help. I usually load on oats, mainly because I love oats!

fezzesarecool · 17/09/2018 14:12

FATEdestiny It’s definitely hard when losing weight and wanting to train

I was going to go up weights on my dumb bells but I think the lower weights are better to build muscle without putting on muscle weight at the minute

I’m thinking to get to the healthily BMI range first before going up weight training weights now

honeysucklejasmine · 17/09/2018 17:36

Welcome Mrs. I think you've had some stirling advice already! I'm a binge eater - mindless, bored, just a little won't hurt type. Except it all adds up and hey presto, 19 stone. So I am calorie counting, and enjoying the challenge of being saited on a smaller amount of food.

AnotherOtter upswing on the scales here too! Hoping it disappears over the course of the week! I have made myself feel better today but putting on a size 14 dress today. Suck it, scales. Size 14! (It's quite fitted on the top half too so I now consider my top half to be a true 14.)

I also bought some stretch skinny jeans in Matalan in size 16. They are a lovely forest green colour, really lovely for winter. I used to be a size 24 bottoms so a 16 is just insane.

And I've treated myself and ordered a new Lindy Bop dress www.lindybop.co.uk/perrie-moss-green-polka-dot-rockabilly-swing-dress.html it's got long sleeves which I'm excited by as it'll hide my bingo wings! 😂

Losing weight is so expensive! Haha! Worse problems to have...

moonlight1705 · 18/09/2018 10:43

Meant to catch up with everyone earlier.

So this week has been a lot better for me, my shingles are cleared up, my cold has gone and I've had the 20 week scan (all is well and perfectly normal in there!) Now I'll work on not stuffing my face with Cake

I've had a nice NSV thanks to honey who sent me her vests - a size 18!!! I haven't had a size 18 near me in ages and they fit nicely without straining around too much. Combine that with size 20 maternity jeans then I am feeling good despite bump growing at a pace.

honey love that Lindy Bop dress, sales will be on in January so you can get more cheaper Smile

fezze 12lb is totally doable by Christmas - how fab will that feel to be merely overweight Grin

Another patience is a virtue they say - getting anywhere near your target must be a cause for a non-food celebration.

Mrs hope you find a way that suits you - we all lose weight in so many different ways but its good to have a check on what is normal with eating and what is a binge. I am a total binger and have really had to train myself in not reaching for the crisps whenever something goes wrong.

Getoff Hope you had a lovely anniversary and definitely do not worry about the scales this week. Just keep making sensible choices hereon in.

I'm sure I've missed people so waving to everyone

AnotherOtter · 18/09/2018 13:28

Welcome mrsdarcey. I agree with Magic that working out what went wrong during previous diets would be a good idea. There are lots of diets with varying 'rules' but they are all just a framework for working out what food to eat to create a calorie deficit. Do you start off strong and then crash and burn? That is very common and is usually due to too severe calorie restriction causing your body to signal very strongly that it wants food now. Hard, if not impossible, to resist. So the solution to that is to go more gently and try a more moderate calorie restriction and accept slower, but more reliable, weight loss. Post about what went wrong in the past and I bet someone here has had that experience too.

Well done getting your mojo back and getting back into exercise, fezzes. STS when times are tough is great going though.

Love your new dress and great NSVs with the clothes, honey.

Lovely to hear that your scan is all fine, moonlight. Great NSV too.

I'm still KOKO. Not had a binge for two and a half weeks and feeling pretty solid about it. Trying to eat more of a variety of foods as I think stretching myself a bit is good for me.

honeysucklejasmine · 19/09/2018 09:13

I'm feeling a bit shit today. I still haven't lost the upswing I saw after parkrun. (+1.75lbs, so more than I lost the preceding week). I did get the munchies on Sunday but only went over by a few hundred calories, so based on a daily deficit of about 800, I'm definitely still under maintenance numbers. It worries me that as soon as I up my allowance again I'm going to start gaining loads.

Tbh it's putting me off doing Parkrun again, which is absolutely ridiculous. I'm not happy about seeing a gain when I've been sticking to 1400 and exercising every day. I know it should be exercise for exercises sake (i.e. fitness not weight loss) but it's still demoralising. I'm trying to focus on nsv etc, but actually I'm just disappointed.

Need to snap out of it really. It doesn't help that I still see myself as massively overweight, rather than appreciating how much slimmer I already am.

Bleugh. Sorry all, brain dump.

OP posts:
strawberrypig · 19/09/2018 09:37

Oh Honey, that is so demoralising! Are you taking measurements? Every six weeks or so my body hangs onto the weight whilst my body shape changes so it may be that? I personally find that the way to kick start weight loss again is to have a day eating normally and not calorie counting. I don't pig out and eat chocolate cake in massive quantities and I do watch my portion sizes but it seems to get my metabolism going again.

MagicKeysToAsda · 19/09/2018 11:52

Big hugs to you Honey. I was grinning to myself as I staggered around on my run this morning, remembering your "suck it scales!" comment Grin It really helped me. The scales will come good in the end but should perhaps be put in the naughty corner to have a think about what they did for a while and your body is changing right in front of you. You look amazing, I can tell from here Wink

Can I whinge on about strava just one last time? Last time because I'm about to delete it! I used mapmyrun to plan a route, on roads, that it mapped as 3 miles. I double-checked the distance in the car as I happened to go down part of it, and that section was exactly the same as mapmyrun said it was. Did it this morning, with strava turned on (as much for the timer as anything) and it said 1.8 miles. Um, what??? If I can I am going to upload pics of the same route with 2 distances on it. Yes, that's how big of a strop I am in!

MagicKeysToAsda · 19/09/2018 12:15

Right, so here is the same route - it's a bit hard to see but basically there is a long road running left to right across the picture, and a shorter uphill road branching off it southwards. I start at the far right, go along, turn into the uphill road and go to the top, turn around, come down. Then carry on "leftwards" along the long road to the top, turn around and back to the beginning. Not very interesting, but it has a useful hill, and it's (I hope) a distance I am aiming at so it's simple to follow. I know Strava is wrong because the long road is 0.9 miles so if I had only done that out-and-back it would have been 1.8, without doing the hill road. Grrr. And uninstall. And breathe.

Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus... Part 6!
honeysucklejasmine · 19/09/2018 20:30

magic a friend of mine uninstalled Strava for similar reasons. Very frustrating! You made me laugh with the naughty corner for my scales, the rude bastards!

Strawberry I have been. I had a big drop in measurements a few weeks ago and have been static since then.

Ok, so feeling a bit better this evening. Am going to do Parkrun again on Saturday with my friend. We're aiming to jog/walk/jog etc as much as we can. Have discussed it with her and come to the sensible conclusion that exercise is valuable to do for its own sake, no matter what happens with the scales.
