Hello,
I was wondering how much weight u fellow vlcd people have lost in the space of 10 weeks. I am planning to attend a friends wedding in 10 weeks and am attempting to loose weight. I am abit 5 stone overweight so i am desperate to loose some weight using exante till the wedding.
Looking forward to hearing your success stories.

I feel the same Kings- I think I can stick it out and lose the weight, but I'm really worried about putting it all back on again, particularly over Christmas. I'm also worried about putting it on again long term.

Peachypips · 18/11/2018 17:21

P.S - has anyone got any 'keep it off' strategies?

NoCanoe · 19/11/2018 00:24

You lot are awesome!
I've fallen off wagon and been left in dust more times than I can count.
But im likely to start for earnest mid Dec.

Awkward time, I know, but it works.

NoCanoe · 19/11/2018 00:36

Oh, and I'm cutting down in meantime.
But with poorly cat and H that is leaving me to it, I feel quite low.

KingsScorn · 19/11/2018 13:01

Sorry about your cat NoCanoe - how old is s/he?

So are you planning to VLCD over Christmas? That's certainly one plan for avoiding the Christmas gain!

My [untested!] keep it off strategies Peachpips are:

  • I had a fair amount of counselling prior to starting this - I feel more emotionally aware (so less likely to bury emotions and more likely to explore what they are telling me - so hopefully this will minimise the emotional eating/drinking).
  • I started the process of cutting out animal products in the year or so leading up to this - I think my taste buds have changed and I no longer crave anything that has them (and that automatically cuts our a load of calorie dense foods). I plan for my diet to be as close to WFPB (whole foods plant based) as I can (so no animal products or oil). That's got to help!
  • Get to a weight that I actually call GOAL - so I have something that I can maintain. I don't think I've ever done that - I've had a BMI of 22 but still wanted to lose just a little bit more so I never felt like I was trying to maintain just 'having a break from dieting'.
  • WI every day I am at home and have a 'trigger' weight where I vow to do something to bring in back down. Log that on fridgegraph.
  • I already know about healthy eating and I really enjoy that type of food. Food organisation and planning ahead...not so good. I plan to go on vegan cookery courses (already been on a couple and really enjoy them) to keep me motivated.
  • This diet is teaching me not to snack. I want to continue with that. Stop the grazing, even if it is healthy and make that a habit. Probably eat the same kind of things at most meals too, like I do now.
  • Have rules around alcohol that I stick to! Definitely not drinking during the week but I also can't drink (to the level I was - whole bottle+ of wine) every Friday and Saturday and expect to not gain. I think limiting it to an average of once a fortnight is about right.
NoCanoe · 19/11/2018 13:23

Those are great tips @KingsScorn, no matter where we are in our ' dieting '.

NoCanoe · 19/11/2018 13:30

Yes, whilst H away, I may as well funnel my energy into house projects and my vlcd.
Everyone thinks I'll be away, so im tempted to leave it like that.
Might break a bottle of champagne at some point though. Maybe new year.

My cat is 10, closer to 11. I can't leave him.
Stress and anxiety will make his condition worse, so he needs to remain home with me, not be shoved into a cattery.

MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting · 19/11/2018 16:24

KingsScorn Well done, it's great that you're going to exceed your first goal. Helps with the motivation🙂

My youngest dd got sent home from school with a vomiting bug on Friday, spent the weekend cleaning up sick, yuck.

Sorry to hear about your cat nocanoe and welcome back.

KingsScorn · 20/11/2018 11:41

Hope you daughter is feeling better now MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting (and no one else has come down with it!) - that's doesn't sound like fun Sad

Thank you - I went over the 1.5 st loss today (I WI every day but Sunday is my offical WI day), so downwards to 2 st now! I am 202.4 lbs this morning - will be a happy morning when I go below 200 lbs (it has been 3.5 years now) - hopefully soon!

Hope your dieting week has been easy for you and you're pleased with tomorrows result.

Yes, might as well NoCanoe and go into the new year in a good place! I'm planning a very low key Christmas - the more I think about it the more I think continuing not to have any alcohol is the most sensible thing I can do (even though I am coming off the VLCD for a week).

KingsScorn · 20/11/2018 11:42

oh for an edit button! Blush

MrsTWH · 20/11/2018 15:42

Well done KingScorn, I think you sound like you’ve prepared really well for this and will succeed long term!
I’m really worried about piling weight on over Xmas. My 60 days sole source Cambridge finishes on 21st Dec. I should then move up the steps to Step 2, but unrealistic perhaps over the holiday? All I can think about is cheese...! 😳

It will be my Week 4 weigh in on Friday and I really want to see 195lb! That would make me 13s13lb, and to squeak under the 14 stone Mark will make me extremely happy! I’m 14 exactly today, which means I’ve lost 1 st 8lb in Under 4 weeks. But it’s been hard at times. I’m craving real food.

KingsScorn · 20/11/2018 16:34

That's fab MrsTWH - fantastic weight loss in 4 weeks!

I don't know what Cambridge stage 2 is (refeed?). I'm not even going to attempt the suggested Slim and save food break or refeed - I'm just going to go straight to counting calories on MFP.

Are you planning on doing sole source again after Christmas?

MrsTWH · 20/11/2018 20:21

Yes, I was thinking of having a couple of weeks off sole source for Xmas hols and then going back on it for January before moving up the steps. I just think I might go mental around real food over the festive period after not eating for 8 weeks!

MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting · 20/11/2018 21:12

Unfortunately not KingsScorn 5 days of being sick and counting, think the poor little mite is losing weight faster than me.

MrsTWH I'm worried I might go mental over Christmas too. I've already started making lists of food we're going to have so I dont over buy and then feel compelled to eat it all. Want to make sure what I do have I really enjoy rather than eating stuff just for the sake of it like I usually would.

MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting · 21/11/2018 09:45

Weigh day here, 3 1/2 lbs off

That's 5 stone or 70lb lost in total now. That feels like such a huge milestone 😁😁😁

KingsScorn · 21/11/2018 11:31

oh wow MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting - congratulations and very well done! Fantastic loss this week AND meeting such a milestone - fabulous! Grin Flowers Flowers

So sorry your daughter is still ill though - hope she starts to improve today.

MrsTWH · 21/11/2018 13:47

5 stone is incredible!! Well done you Grin

NoCanoe · 21/11/2018 14:13

Goodness @Minnie- that's an incredible achievement! Star

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 21/11/2018 17:27

Hi ladies,
Lost 2lbs this week so have lost 1st 13lbs in 7 weeks.
It's going to be an expensive diet, although I save money by not buying junk food I've got my old shopping addiction back and am spending my evenings window shopping online.
I've been putting a minimum of £20 a week into a sealed tin that I'm opening when I reach my 4 stone goal and plan to spend the lot in a big shopping spree Grin

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 21/11/2018 17:28

MrsTWH if you're on facebook there's a good Cambridge support group, it's quite busy in there and lots of people post progress photos which are very motivating.

MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting · 21/11/2018 20:58

Thank you everyone 😊

Its so weird having people say nice things and well done. I'm not used to it.

Well done mrsdean

KingsScorn · 24/11/2018 09:10

I'm spending an increasing amount of time browsing clothes online too MrsDeanWinchester75! Great motivation!

I'm getting used to the idea that I am losing fairly slowly now for a VLCD (WI day tomorrow and it is looking like it will be around the 2-2.5 lb mark again). I am pleased about that is some ways as one of my concerns with losing all/most/a lot of my weight on a VLCD was the increased risk of loose skin. It may happen anyway but at least I cannot berate myself afterwards because I lost the weight too quickly. I guess 2-2.5 lbs/wk is quite quick though.

I've had plantar fasciitis for years now (thankfully now only in one foot and relatively mild compared to what it was) and a back issue (again much better than it has been) that have prevented me/provided an excuse anyway from doing much exercise so my metabolism won't be roaring. I am planning on adding in some swimming and some weight lifting within the next week or so.

I've done a quick calculation of what an average of 2.5 lbs/wk weight loss means (approximation, of course - I'm assuming I am having about 750 kcal/day) in terms on how much energy by body needs each day at the moment...((2.5 x 3500)+(750 x 7))/7 = 2000 Kcals/day. That's to maintain 14.5 st of course! Its not as bad as I thought but I know I'm going to have to put some effort into increasing my metabolism when this is all over that that is lower at a lower weight - less sofa and screen time!

KingsScorn · 24/11/2018 09:12

How is your daughter now MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting?

MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting · 24/11/2018 11:35

KingsScorn shes better thank you, hasn't been sick since Wednesday evening, unfortunately my elder dd was sick during the night. When will it end.

I'm experiencing loose skin now, about 3-4 months before I started this diet I contacted a company about weight loss surgery, I was getting to the point where nothing had worked and I was increasingly desperate. We've discussed that because we didnt spend a vast amount of weight loss surgery there might be the opportunity to have something done about loose skin, not yet because I'd need to prove to myself I can keep it off long term and would need to save anyway.

KingsScorn · 24/11/2018 15:57

Oh no - sorry to hear about your eldest DD MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting - hopefully it is a different (much more short-lived bug)..fingers crossed.

Good plan about the surgery - I think it may firm up/become less loose with time (to a certain extent anyway). I haven't lost enough to notice any yet but I would be surprised if I don't have a fair amount the tummy area - I would definitely wait at least a year before any surgery.
