That's fab MrsDeanWinchester75 - I like you approach to the diet timings too.
The plant based diet started initially for health reasons MinniesAndMickeysNeedCounting. I watched 'forks over knives' and was pretty convinced that it was the way to go. Subsequently I bought the FOK (forks over knives) cookery books and about this time last year I started an online cookery course for plant based cooking. I've also read a lot more and watched even more documentaries (What the health/vegucated/food choices etc - they are loads now).
The health advantages are pretty compelling. I think I first started attempting to change my diet just under two years ago. When I stuck to WFPB (whole food plant based) I did lose weight BUT I started cheating again - too much alcohol, vegan junk food, overlooking cheese on pizzas etc. so stopped losing weight.
I feel like I really have changed my taste buds now. The food I really want to eat over Christmas is definitely healthy - I've got zero cravings for things with meat and cheese in. The no oil thing in WFPB is more difficult. Not having crisps (oil) is more difficult. That will be why I will probably aim to do WFPB more like 90% of the time to maintain.
I see myself having a level ladder as to how I eat:
Chef AJ (WFPB + really limit nuts and seeds)
WFPB - no junk food, no oil, no alcohol
Plant based (so will include vegan junk food + alcohol)
Vegetarian - if out and no vegan option
Meat - very, very rarely if at all
and try to stick in the top two 90+% of the time
At the end of most of the documentaries animal welfare is highlighted. I can't stand to watch it all. That speaks volumes - that is what will keep me going when I am tempted my meat I think. Meat and dairy farming are believed to be very bad environmentally too. I just cannot justify it - so I think the sugar free jelly needs to go too now.
I feel much more confident about keeping the weight off now than I ever have done before due to the WFPB diet change. I do need rules around alcohol though - and that tends to also be where the vegan junk food starts slipping in. I'm thinking:
- No alcohol the evening before a working day.
- No drinking two days in a row (so when not on holiday choose Fri or Sat)
- Always drink water alongside (I'm a very fast drinker)
Another essay from me! Sorry!
