I used to run lots of 10k races and that was hard enough so I am very very impressed indeed by that time and dedication Lasty. Very well done

You former 10k-ers, what sort of time should I be aiming for as a pudgy middle aged beginner? The app I'm following builds up to 10k but as I'm so slow I won't get there in the time the app is suggesting, IYSWIM.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/02/2017 14:15

My PB (10 years ago) was 59minutes but I doubt I could achieve less than an hour now

OP posts:
KikisDeliveryService · 19/02/2017 15:19

arsey I wouldn't worry about aiming for a time, just doing a 10k is phenomenonal in itself. Best to benchmark against yourself!

Like boop my best time is 59 mins but I'm not convinced I'll achieve that ever again.

ArseyTussle · 19/02/2017 17:22

Sounds like I'm best to just keep trotting then!

I have a bit of a fear about trying to go faster in case I injure myself or get discouraged. I'm very much within my comfort zone, I have a raised heart rate and breathing, and I'm most definitely running so that counts, doesn't it?

BitOutOfPractice · 19/02/2017 17:54

It most certainly does!

ArseyTussle · 19/02/2017 18:08

Phew.

Millie04 · 19/02/2017 19:06

Arsey I'm totally with you in terms of times. I have v little interest in it, although I was disheartened recently to read that a normal pace for beginners is a 10 minute mile. I've been running for 2 years, started with the couch to 5k app. I am normally betw 9.40 to 10 minutes a mile and am v happy with that. So long as I moving and working my body a few times a week then I am succeeding! I've never entered a race but am interested in doing some park runs for the social aspect.

lastqueenofscotland · 19/02/2017 19:31

Millie parkrun is fantastic!

I had a bit more food at lunch (ie a roast dinner!) than planned but will save my pizza for after next weeks long run instead. I'm not hungry and don't really want it.
Old queen would have snaffled both without a second thought! Even if not hungry. Progress eh?!

Got lots of yummy healthy food to have this week which I am looking forward to.

ArseyTussle · 19/02/2017 19:42

I think I'd feel very self conscious at Parkrun, and would be worried about being slow, whereas when I run alone I don't care about anything other than keeping going.

BitOutOfPractice · 19/02/2017 19:55

Arsey I promise you would not feel self conscious at park run. All shapes and sizes, all ages from 5-70. It's not a race. It's a run. Honestly try it. It's great!

Sunday roast was a tad calorific... over my mfp goal for today. Made sure to do Pilates and get my steps so I can counteract it as best as possible.
Will catch up with the thread in the morning as I'm on my phone now. Hope everyone is doing better than me!! 😬

ponygirlcurtis · 19/02/2017 20:34

Wow queen, well done, that's an amazing time. And such a distance, didn't realise a half marathon was so many km.

My average time for 5km on a treadmill is around 42mins. That makes it around a 13-min mile. Blush

lastqueenofscotland · 20/02/2017 07:19

Thank you pony!
Arsey you will love parkrun. Worth having a look at the results, I think you'll find it very reassuring!

9at11 this morning so I achieved my 2 linda goal for last week, though did dip to 9 9 but I think that was dehydration. Would have to lose three more between now and the 1st to lose half a stone which I'm not sure about but another 2 off would be ace.

Archduke · 20/02/2017 07:51

Arsey honestly ParkRun is for EVERYONE! Trust us, for we speak the truth.

Parkrun has everyone from elite athletes who do 5km in 15mins and then run back and do 5km more, to normal people like us, to the very old, the very young (babies in prams) to the fat, the thin and everyone in between. Which is, of course, what makes it so lovely.

I've had a wierd day, ok foodwise, I think but felt very unsettled and panicky all day. We're coming up to the anniversary of my daughters accident and I'm not sure if that is freaking me out or not.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 20/02/2017 07:54

Hello all! This wagon is damn slippery, isn't it? Blush After having horrendous bowel issues for most of last week, I said fuck it and ate everything in sight all weekend. I am now abandoning BSD because I think it makes my innards ill. Plus it has a bad effect on my self-control. Back to 5:2 combined with sensible eating for a further 3 days (No Sweets, No Snacks, No Seconds) and freedom at weekends. I have put 3lbs back on, but today is a fast day so I have hopes that they will mainly have gone by tomorrow.

I also have barely moved off the sofa, so back to the exercise as well! I had to start getting up earlier for work, so I have abandoned plans of exercise before I leave - have to be out by 6.30. New plan is to Shred as soon as I get home at 6pm - plonk kids in front of Paw Patrol. Then put kids to bed, and then make dinner. Except not on fast days, so this starts tomorrow.

ArseyTussle · 20/02/2017 08:00

Is your daughter completely better now, Arch? Could you maybe plan something nice for that day to mark how far you've come etc?

Will have a look at the Parkrun site to see whether I'm brave enough.

This weight v measurements thing is bullshit! I've lost a whisker off a stone, and the measly measurements lost are:
Waist 4cm
Bicep 2cm
Thigh 3cm
Lower tum apron 5cm

It's ever likely it takes FOREVER to lose a dress size. Angry

Naughtysausage · 20/02/2017 08:01

Good morning!
Have just spent the train journey to work catching up on the last 5 days! You've all been very busy!
Congrats on the half marathon - excellent time!

I had a naughty couple of days thurs/fri staying with friends and DH bought a box of my favourite chocolates from his work trip. However, I'm managing to stay the same weight through all that, so quite happy. I'm finally back at work this week, so I'm hoping that lunchtime walks and healthy packed lunches will help shift a pound or two.

Stellar67 · 20/02/2017 08:23

Just catching up on all I've missed. Almost thought I was on a running thread for a minute. Grin
We've been a house of germs and toilet huggers. Doesn't seem to have done much for weight.
Feeling like we are creeping back into real life again. Small steps like using the internet.
Have meal planned. All low carb and healthy. :-)

Archduke · 20/02/2017 08:23

She's probably 90% better Arsey which is a bloody miracle (and thanks to docs, nurosurgeons, nurses, pysios, etc etc) she still has lots of physio/OT etc. I think I'm feeling a bit deranged about my inability to keep everyone safe. Perhaps I need to talk about it.

Good idea to mark the anniversary somehow. DH will be away doing his stupid enormous bike ride (Australia West Coast to East Coast) so will be just me and the kids. Will think.

ARSEY you have lost 14cm. That is fantastic.

Chard you have a plan, which is good!

Morning! Was supposed to be dry last night but bf had made roast beef SBD it seemed rude not have a glass of red and eleventy hundred roast potatoes

Archie I'm sure the anniversary will bring up so many memories and trauma for you. Talking to someone might not be a bad idea you know Flowers

SpuriouserAndSpuriouser · 20/02/2017 11:09

Arch I think feeling like that is completely understandable. Were you ever given the opportunity to talk to a professional about it?

Queen well done! I am in awe of anyone who can run that far, let alone in 2 hours.

My PB for a 10km race is 1:06. I am definitely less elite and more ploddy, but the way I see it at least I am trying Grin

Fast day here today. Holding out for stuffed peppers for dinner!
