Cambridge Diet

Firstly, apologies if this thread is already on here, but I couldn't find it. Last time I did the Cambridge diet I found lots of help and support on Mumsnet and was hoping there would be a thread in place to help me this time ..........

Day one today, had a chocolate shake with lots of ice, a pint of water and am currently drinking a cup of hot water.

Yesterday I was weighed at my consultants house and I was 14 stones 7 and a half pounds. Going on holiday on the 26th September and would love 2 stones off by then. Last year I did this diet for my sisters wedding and lost 28 pounds in as many days. Was very pleased, unfortunatly I am a greedy PIG and cannot control my eating. Am doing to do ss for a month then a week at a time until my hol,as much as I can. Then will follow slimming world principles during and after my holiday, just need this kick start to get me going!

If anyone would like to join me on this thread we can help each other, last year the help I got on here was invaluable!

And have had the pleasure of sitting on the toilet half the evening. Lovely. So, on the wagon I will climb tomorrow ....... Will I ever learn? Blush

Hello ladies, have been reading your thread with amazement - well done at the losses! I'm trying to get preggers so am guessing now would not be a good time at all to start something so radical, but I really do need to lose some weight so (fingers crossed) in a year or so I might give this a go. My question is, do you have to do it with the counsellor etc? I find that all a bit cringy - is it possible to just buy the food (and books?) and go it alone?

Puddingtoast · 27/08/2010 16:37

my 'consultant' just drops off the shakes, weighs me if i ask, and lets me get on with it. You can have as much or as little input as you need. Good luck getting preggers :)

3ismylot · 27/08/2010 16:52

Hi all sorry I have been absent but life has been a bit hectic!
I have been accepted on an access to higher education course which starts in a couple of weeks plus am trying to find a part time job to fit in with it so that I can qualify for working tax credits and have also been away to Amsterdam lol

I had planned on being good in Amsterdam but the day before I decided that I was gonna treat myself and have the 3 days off, I didnt eat half as much as I planned as the cruise back was very rough and eating an all you can eat buffet breakfast with sea sickness didnt appeal lol.
I am back on plan today and feeling ok except for a banging headache Sad I lost 2lbs last week (2st 10lbs in 9 weeks) but am not holding out hope this week as only have 3 days to pull back before weigh in so am keeping my fingers crossed for a sts Smile

Havent read up on what everyone is doing so am gonna do that now, hope you are all well and that you are being good x

Ladydutchalot · 30/08/2010 10:47

Can I join? I'm on day one of the dutch version (modifast), and have about 2.5 stone to lose. Had my first shake at 7.30 and my stomach is growling so loudly!!! Feel really guilty because I don't want to start exercising until the ketosis kicks in as I don't think I could hack it!, but I cycle for 40 mins per day and walk for 40 mins per day (at a 6 year old's pace, so hardly strenuous!), so am hoping that will tick me over for the next few days.

All I can think about is my growly tummy and the huge fruit bowl in front of me! Grin. Your losses all sound amazing!! I go home for two weeks at Christmas, so am hoping to wow everyone with my new svelt self (and then curse at everyone with their roasties while I pick at some lean chicken and raw veg! Grin.

FatGirlThin · 30/08/2010 15:40

Hi Ladydutch alot. Welcome to our (rather slow at the moment) board! Make sure you drink all the water you need and more, it will help the hunger (a bit!)

I've been away for a little bit and it's been hideous, meals out, roast dinner and a party buffet. It's been thoroughly miserable sitting through it all nibbling on a blardy bar. I'm hitting another wall with this diet. I'll weigh in tomorrow and see how I'm doing. Hope you are all bowling along better than me!

Puddingtoast · 30/08/2010 18:27

Hey FGT, hang in there! i know what you mean about the wall. I got out all my old clothes, hoping to take some favourites on holiday and they are STILL TOO SMALL arrrgh. That was so gutting. I felt like crying into a big mac. Le sigh. But i'm keeping going; i look a lot better than when i started, but still have a looong way to go. Holiday is going to be hard as well, as food is usually one of the best things about going back to my home town. At least we'll save money on not going out for dinner and not boozing!

X

Ladydutchalot · 30/08/2010 18:37

Oh Pudding, you poor thing. I bought a belt today in anticipation!

Modifast lets you have one piece of sugar free gum, or one radish or carrot a day IF YOU REALLY NEED IT (you are allowed three shakes per day, and then eventually you are weaned on to meals a la slim fast). I cooked my fave ever dinner for dd tonight (chicken fajita's), after decorating cakes with her and resisting licking the icing off my fingers and being super starving all day, and decided I needed that carrot. Now I know why they say only if you really need it, my stomach hurt like crazy afterwards, and made my hunger quadruple. Never again!!

Am trying to save my last shake until 8pm, as I don't go to bed until midnight, but had it at 7.30 tonight as was just too hungry. Please tell me it gets easier, this is feeling pretty miserable!

Ladydutchalot · 30/08/2010 18:56

P.S. is it normal for your first week's motivation to be "I've paid so much for these blardy things that I've got to stay on it now"? xx Grin

TrollyDolly1 · 30/08/2010 21:33

Welcome Ladydutch! Alot of my motivation is the £40 a week I am shelling out. It does get marginally easier, the weight loss gives you a massive boost. Keep going FGT, it is sooo hard, and you have done amazingly well, I simply couldnt sit by and let others eat whilst I sipped my ice water, not this time on CD anyway - I've lost my will power.

Dont loose heart pudding - you have said yourself, you look alot better than when you started.

It's soooooo hard

TrollyDolly1 · 01/09/2010 09:09

Morning all! I jumped awake at 2:30 this morning having just realised some thing. In my "session" I remember she said that I would be inclined to leave at least a quarter of a slice of bread on my plate. When I came home last night, I made myself dippy egg with toast ...... and with out even realising it I left 1/4 of a slice of toast. Odd.

TrollyDolly1 · 01/09/2010 12:29

Where is everyone? (panic). This may be my imagination but I dont feel hungry, will have my lunch shake, as I know I need the nutrients, and then I am going to have chicken or fish for tea.

Just made ds his lunch, and I genuinly did not want to pick at it or any thing. Feel good. Also, been in and out of the fridge all morning yet have not even been tempted to pick. Yesterday I had an all consuming NEED to eat, yet today it has gone. Coinsidence?

Puddingtoast · 01/09/2010 17:50

ooooh i'm impressed trolly! i'm glad you had a positive experience. Makes me wonder if it would do me any good Hmm

FatGirlThin · 01/09/2010 20:08

OOooh, and me! Everytime I feel really hungry and I am swamped by a desire to just jack the whole diet in. Honestly, I can't imagine how I'm going to keep this up! We've got a picnic with friends at the weekend and I'm just dreading the feeling of deprivation again Sad - sorry to be such a whinge bag.

I did lose another 3 lbs this week so that is 1st 4lbs in 4 weeks, hopefully next week it'll be 1 1/2 stone Smile

TrollyDolly1 · 01/09/2010 21:18

Well done FGT! You are doing amazingly well, the fact that you get past the hungar and dont jack it in speaks volumes!

It's only been one day, so prehaps I am getting a bit excited to early but, I feel like a whole new Trolly. Had my breakfast and lunch shakes today, I didn't gag or have my usual carry on, one thing I remember her telling me is to sit down whilst having food. I know your meant to do this but quite frankly when do I get a second to sit down. But today, I found myself sat down with both my shakes, without quite realising how I got there.

I have eaten my tea, had a very small bowl, but really enjoyed the taste and the flavours, and once it was gone I didn't think I needed more, I felt nice. Dp, forgot and brought me home a chocolate bar, which in usual circumstances I would have shoved down my throat in 2 bites with my head under the sink, you know just in case some one saw me. But I am proud to say it'sstill in the fridge and in all honesty, I dont want it. Not one bit.

Also, have given myself a kick today. I have cracked on with the house work, as in proper dug the house out, I was even on my hands and knees cleaning the skirting boards Hmm and I have sorted out the finaces which were beginning to swamp me.

All in all feel very very posative - can things only get better? I am going to have a "top up session" shortly before my hols, and I am going to try and stick to the " Cambridge weight loss plan". That's another thing I remember, "diet" is a negative word. I was telling her I go to Fat club (slimming world) with my Mum and she said that I should not refer to it as that as I was already setting myself up for failure. She was ever so good. It cost me £35 and to be honest I would pay that every month, to feel this posative - not felt tlike this in such a long long time.

Ooooh Trolley I want a go!! I really really do!!! FGT, I hope I get losses like yours! I am so scared of going through all of this for just 1lb a week or something. Damn the waiting!!!

I think I'm getting there with this diet, although I woke up in the middle of the night after day 2 and stuffed down a banana and low fat yog before I knew what I had done. Have had no relapses though, thank god! I lost yesterday (dd only has 3 hours of school on a Wed, so I normally have a coffee while I wait and then pick her up, as we live over an hour away) and ended up walking for 3 hours with a 19lb rucksack on, so I feel the two even out. I did have to have an extra shake last night though as I thought I would pass out from the dizzyness and stomach cramps, but the website said you could do this after strenuous exercise (and I call running for the last hour to try and find the school pretty strenuous!!)

The hunger is waning, although I picked dd up from school and she presented me with a beautiful cake. "It is for yooooooooou mummy, would you like some? I made it just for you, why don't you have some? Don't you like it? But I made it for you. Mummmmmmmy". I did not cave (although I wished bitterly dp was here to scarf it down, why is he in England when I need him!!!!)

My jeans are fitting a little more loosely too, I think I am noticing a difference, hurrah!! Grin

Puddingtoast · 02/09/2010 18:31

LADIES i have an annoucement: 18lbs down, and i'm (just) back in my skinny jeans!!! Woowoo!

I've been on this diet one month as of tomorrow, sooo glad i did this. LadyD it WILL work, and it WILL be worth it! [bootyshake around kitchen]

PS your little one sounds adorable
