Cambridge Diet

Firstly, apologies if this thread is already on here, but I couldn't find it. Last time I did the Cambridge diet I found lots of help and support on Mumsnet and was hoping there would be a thread in place to help me this time ..........

Day one today, had a chocolate shake with lots of ice, a pint of water and am currently drinking a cup of hot water.

Yesterday I was weighed at my consultants house and I was 14 stones 7 and a half pounds. Going on holiday on the 26th September and would love 2 stones off by then. Last year I did this diet for my sisters wedding and lost 28 pounds in as many days. Was very pleased, unfortunatly I am a greedy PIG and cannot control my eating. Am doing to do ss for a month then a week at a time until my hol,as much as I can. Then will follow slimming world principles during and after my holiday, just need this kick start to get me going!

If anyone would like to join me on this thread we can help each other, last year the help I got on here was invaluable!

Sorry to be a whinge today but I need hand holding!! My breath stinks, I'm desperate to chew on something, anything, I feel like I have months ahead of me eating nothing and smelling like a mooses bum. I am hungry, I want to eat carbs and I have lost a measly 0.2lb since Monday. I am cross!!!! I want to cheat. I want to cheat like mad, and the only think stopping me is the vision of being a bigger bride than my ex's new wife, which is bad and spiteful but I am so mad right now!!!

TrollyDolly1 · 02/09/2010 20:03

Aw Lady, dont give up. What your going through is "part" of the "weight loss plan". Try not to think of it in terms of months - just think a week at a time. The weight will come off - it cant help but come off. Make your self some water and have an early night. Tomorrow is another day and you will feel sooo good in the morning having not cheated! Be as bad and spiteful as you want - we are all friends on here!

And PUDDING I am booty shaking round the kitchen with you! Wow wow and wow. Well done Pudding I am so very proud of you! Skinny jeans - v v jelouse!

I may have well and truely stuffed my face. But, on the plus side, I am still under 1000 cals for the day. What happens if you fall off the wagon? Do you put on piles of weight because you actually ate something? I just had to get it out of my system, I had to get past the fact that food smells and appears better than it tastes. And it is true, it does. Am semi mad and semi glad I did it.

However, am amazed at the 18lbs!!!!

Puddingtoast · 02/09/2010 21:37

LadyD, dont worry, you wont blow up like a pufferfish! You'll have to go through ketosis again (so loose any water you retain) but within 5 days you'll be back in ketosis and in the zone! Glad you've had a mini epiphany in that food smells better than it actually tastes; when i realized that, i felt like wonderwoman - i could cook anything and not need to eat it!

Aww Fanks Trolly Blush don't get too jealous, still need to wear my bridget jones pants under my skinnies to minimized the muffin top Grin

Ladydutchalot · 03/09/2010 09:45

Hurrah Pudding, getting into tiny jeans and still pretending she isn't a skinny mini Grin

TrollyDolly1 · 03/09/2010 10:47

Lady - some times the mini epiphany moments are good. Will be annoying getting back into Ketosis, although to be honest I have not been in it for ages now. Just taking easc day as it comes. If I do Cambridge all day then fab but if I have had a busy day or done alot of exercise I will eat. Obviously low cal and healthy but I'm not getting hung up on it now.

Ladydutchalot · 03/09/2010 11:33

I'm sat down for most of today, so am just having a glass of water next to me and a glass of herbal/fruity tea all the time, and so am not hitting hungry yet. I always thought those teas were a bit naff, but am now discovering that they are brilliant!!! Feels like I'm snacking and being naughty, but I'm not!!!! Keeps the hunger away wonderfully too.

Trolly, I love reading about what you have been doing!! You do so much exercise that I think it would be dangerous for you not to eat. You are an example to us all!!

TrollyDolly1 · 03/09/2010 12:11

ILady I am far from an example! Lol!

Getting a bit more excited about this diet now, I am not chafing as much!!!! I am noticing slight slimming, yippeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! I am sure I have lost nothing lb wise, as I seem to be retaining water like crazy, but this diet can be pretty good I am seeing now, I like results. Feck you lovely yummy delicious sugar coated foamy bananas, you can stay in the cupboard (and I will sniff you occasionally, so there!!!)

FatGirlThin · 04/09/2010 09:41

Morning! I am having a chipper morning because I'm only 1/2 lb off 1 1/2 stone - yay! Nobody at school has noticed (or if they have, they aren't mentioning it Smile) but I feel so much better already. My clothes are fitting more comfortably which is such a pleasure after 18months of them just getting tighter and tighter. I keep putting money into my 'new clothes' pot so that in a couple of months I can have a splurge. I've probably bought three things in the last 18 months (and two of those were for my birthday!)

I had a bit of a crisis when I saw my CDC on Thurs. She thinks 3lbs a week is a bit slow and when I asked her what the process was for coming off the diet she said I was SO far away from that I didn't need to know yet! I left feeling a bit of a failure Sad. She also keeps saying things like 'well really, X(my original weight)stones at your height, well lets not even go there...' - she made me feel like a monster. I'm a bit overweight, not shooting up in front of my children!! Anyway, I went on the forum and asked about the weight loss and everyone was very positive and said for my weight/height I was doing well Smile. I think I'm going to adopt more of a purchase and run approach with my CDC. I just can't find a lovely empathetic one! DH says if I succeed on this I should become a CDC as I'm very kind and sympathetic, plus I've always struggled with my weight (CDC has never been overweight)!

Anyway, this has been a bit of rant so I'm off! Hope everyone has a good weekend (((unmumsnetty hugs all round))))

Oh and Lady....YAY!!! Keep up the good work Grin

Ladydutchalot · 04/09/2010 10:47

Oh FGT, your CDC sound horrid!!! I would have said something to her, the evil moron. At least you are doing something about your weight, many many MANY aren't!!

I'm still struggling to stick to it, but things should get better again from Monday as I'm out all day, and then have to work at home in the evenings, so will have less thinking about food time. Weekends are never good in our house, dd and I are in a 4m x 4m studio flat, and dd is VERY hyper and more than possibly autistic, so I can't be grumpy when she is around all day, or it will end badly, as we found out!!! I had two tablespoonfuls of muesli at 11am and all is going well again, so I see it as a safety measure instead of a slip up Grin.

FatGirlThin · 04/09/2010 12:18

LOL! I've just realised I said I was very kind and sympathetic, I'm modest too of course Grin

Thanks Lady! It sounds like you have alot on your plate (not literally of course Wink). I would suggest that if you do need a snack - which is totally understandable btw - try not to make it carb based as it buggers about the ketosis...someone said that on the forum anyway!

Ladydutchalot · 05/09/2010 20:42

So, this week, I have lost ............ 1lb. At least I lost something, and I did eat 300 cal meals for two of the days as I couldn't bear the hunger, so was expecting it, plus the two tablespoons of museli. I don't seem to be losing any of the water, so maybe better next week?

However, did google the average weight loss (I know I shouldn't have, but I did!!) and people are saying that it slows from week 3 to around 1.5 lb a week, so I am worried I only have a 1 week window to lose piles!! Grin. I was hoping to have shed 2.5 stone by Christmas, but it's not looking as likely now. Come on Ketosis, show me RESULTS BABY!! I have made a chart and everything Grin

TrollyDolly1 · 06/09/2010 01:40

Aw, a chart. That's so lovely! Well done FGT, are you going to become a dealer? That would be good. You would be able to empathise with people, as in you been there doe that.

Was pleased today, ran faster and further than have ever managed befor. About half way round I used one of my hypnotherapy techniques to make me carry one. Really think it's helping

Hey ladies :)

I'm just about to start the Cambridge diet. I'm 11st 9 and am getting gradually heavier since finishing bfing in may. I'm heading towards the fattest I have ever been and I just don't wanna go there so cd here I come!

I've got no will power and I really like shit food and wine. I'm going to find it really hard :(

On the plus side my dh lost 4 stone on the diet recently so I can see the results which will hopefully spur me on when a dime bar is calling my name.

Your stories are inspiring but the furry Tongue does sound like much fin.

3ismylot · 06/09/2010 08:27

Hi all sorry I have been absent again!
I had a long think and alot of discussions with my Husband and we decided that Cambridge is just too expensive when we are a family of five on a budget.
I took the big and hard decision to switch to weightwatchers and have been following it for the last week.

I expected to have a gain of at least 7lbs as I am eating again but I am over the moon to have lost 3.5lbs Grin

So Im afraid that I am leaving this thread but good luck to you all and hope your journey goes smoothly x

TrollyDolly1 · 06/09/2010 12:57

Welcome ArseHolio. Amazing loss for your Dh! It's not a nice diet in my opinion but it's one that gets results fast which is why I think we are all on it. I also have no will power and am very easily lead and this time on cd has been a massive challenge for me ..........

Which leads me on to, 3ismylot. You have done amazingly well.:( that your leaving us but wish you all the best at ww. I am having similar thoughts to you. Will prob use up my left over stuff, maybe having shake for breakfast and lunch (which is pretty much what i am doing now anyway) then sw for me. It is very expensive. Also, yesterday I had my shakes and what felt like gallons of water and today I failed miserably in my running. Couldn't shut off negative trolly at all, and felt weak. The run yesterday mooring though was powered by a sandwich the night before. Felt fab yesterday morning but a bit deflated today.

FatGirlThin · 06/09/2010 14:19

Welcome ArseHolio, Cambridge does work (as you know!) if you stick to it. It's the sticking part that is tough.

3ismylot - sorry to hear you are going but wow! What an amazing first week on WW, that is brilliant Smile
Trolly - so will you be off too? I think that maybe you are right, if you want to maintain your level of exercise (which I am in awe of...I have the Shred but it's still in the wrapper Blush)then Cambridge might not be for you. Have you done SW before? I know one of the girls at work had great success on it Smile

I had a little boost today because I reached 1 1/2 stone lost this morning when I weighed myself and also a couple of the mums at school noticed that I had lost weight (first time someone who DIDN't already know I was dieting has noticed so I was v. pleased about that).

Hope everyone else is ok. Off to torture myself at Waitrose now Wink

Ladydutchalot · 07/09/2010 01:19

Hello ArseHolio. The first week on the diet is HARD, but after you get used to it. I am now finding it pretty easy to follow, and have stuck to it totally since Saturday lunchtime Blush. You just say no to everything, instead of walking a minefield, and you notice the difference quickly, which I love.

3ismylot and TrollyDolly1, what is going to happen to this thread without you? I hope we don't end up as lone solitary posters FGT!!

I took dd to the pizza parlour today. Watched men tossing fresh pizza dough in front of me while dd tucked into the most amazing slice of pizza she had ever tasted apparently. I had water and enjoyed the smells so much!!

I put my shred on today!! Completely ignored the plea's of "do not rest, your body will not change". Pause button on, more water, away we go again!!! I'm noticing enough of a difference with no exercise, and have a ten mile cycle every day from tomorrow, so I will rest if I wish. I cannot kill myself, I have a six year old.

Week 2 is SO GOOD compared to week 1, yippee I love this diet!!!! I feel like a crysalis (and I didn't trap my armpit fat in my zip on my dress this morning Blush, as it's not there any more Grin, or at least, not as much!

Ladydutchalot · 07/09/2010 17:47

I have the Stinky Breath!!!! Yippee!!! (And ewww!!!!)

Was in close proximity to people all day, so much water was chugged, but yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay!!! I cannot wait for Monday's weigh in now!!!

How is everyone getting on? I cannot help thinking of bacon, crumpets and bread!!!

TrollyDolly1 · 08/09/2010 09:48

I wont be going just yet. I still have shakes that I can't afford to waste. But, I only planned on CDing until my holidays and it's only 19 days away now. I (and your going to laugh at me) still attend slimming world most weeks. I go with my Mum and it's such a lovely group. I obviously have not been following it, but I have been getting ideas and inspiration.

FGT isn't it lovely when people start to notice - gives you such a fantastic boost. You have done very very well. Shred is fab, but it is hard.

Lady 10 mile cycle - goodness me! Well done on the stinky breath. mmmmmmmmmmmmm bacon

Overtiredmum · 09/09/2010 18:11

Can I join you all please??

Am a re-starter on CD. Lost approximately 4 stone back at the beginning of 2008, reached my target and kept it off, then fell pregnant, with my DD.

Had since then managed to nearly get back to pre-pg weight, but with too much vino and good living over the summer, I could now do with shifting 2 stone.

So am booked back in to see my CDC on Monday and I cannot wait. I always feel fantastic on this diet and it really works for me as I don't have to think about food at all.

I have 10 weeks with no dinner/drinks arrangements in the diary, so am going for it ready for the LBD events at Christmas.

FatGirlThin · 09/09/2010 22:06

Welcome OvertiredMum!
It is amazing how many people come back to this diet! I'm finding it so hard, dh keeps saying to me 'remember this because you NEVER want to do it again!' Grin

I seem to be hitting a bit of a wall weight-loss wise this week but it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings... tra la la Wink so hopefully by Monday a bit more will have crept off. As long as I lose 3lbs/week I'm ok with it.

Hope everyone else is doing well.

AnxiousLand · 11/09/2010 23:19

i lost 5 and a half pounds this week
total in 12 weeks - 69lb woohoo

Ladydutchalot · 12/09/2010 08:03

Wow Anxious, that is amazing!!! You inspire me!!!

I had three days off as I had a lunch and two dinners I couldn't get out of, and couldn't not eat without looking like a total idiot (they were corporates), so back on again properly today.

I have lost 8.5lbs so far, but am going to be so upset if I've put it all back on again! The 10k cycles to school and back have started (4k of that with a 4 stone dd on the back), and I'm swimming every day from Monday, so hopefully I won't have put myself back too far.
