Cambridge Diet

Firstly, apologies if this thread is already on here, but I couldn't find it. Last time I did the Cambridge diet I found lots of help and support on Mumsnet and was hoping there would be a thread in place to help me this time ..........

Day one today, had a chocolate shake with lots of ice, a pint of water and am currently drinking a cup of hot water.

Yesterday I was weighed at my consultants house and I was 14 stones 7 and a half pounds. Going on holiday on the 26th September and would love 2 stones off by then. Last year I did this diet for my sisters wedding and lost 28 pounds in as many days. Was very pleased, unfortunatly I am a greedy PIG and cannot control my eating. Am doing to do ss for a month then a week at a time until my hol,as much as I can. Then will follow slimming world principles during and after my holiday, just need this kick start to get me going!

If anyone would like to join me on this thread we can help each other, last year the help I got on here was invaluable!

I think once you have taken food out of the equation totaly, you can realise how much you eat. Its the things you dont even notice, like picking at the children's tea as you are making it. Eating in front of the TV is also what we do. Its funny, I always insist ds sits at the table to eat all his meals, yet dont follow my own rules!

It's odd about the savoury food cravings, maybe it's because all the shakes are sweet. Do you only have shakes? I only have choc, choc orange and choc mint. It's the only ones I can force down, although I must admit I am very board of them now. Still like Choc mint but the other two hold little appeal now.

And - 9LBS!!!!!! Well done! That is amazing, oh, I fell all under pressure now! lol! Wow! I'm so pleased for you! :o :o :o

Thanks so much Trolly! I'm really chuffed, just seen my new cdc who is really good, so much better than old rubbish one! HOWEVER she didn't have chocolate orange shakes, she said people found they 'repeated on them' Confused but she has said she'll get some in for me to try anyway.
She has also said since I'm hungry all the time on three shakes she wants me to go up to four a day which is technically more than I need for my height but she says to trust her and basically do as I'm told!! Grin So I am!
Looking forward to hearing how your weigh in goes. No pressure just support (and an anvil wavering precariously over your head Wink)

TrollyDolly1 · 09/08/2010 14:44

"repeated on them"? Oh! Glad you like her better. So now you are to do 4 shakes a day - I prob should be on more but ..... I struggle with 3, as I dont really like them dont know if I could force the 4th down.

Today so far has been HARD!!! Went shopping with my Mum and ds. Ds obviously needed lunch so we popped in a lovely cafe that do THE best brie and tomatoe sanddwich. Any way, Mum had quiche, ds had pasta covered in cheese and I had black tea.

Food was out to get me today, the lunch didn't bother me but the women with the samples in M and S practically chased me down the aisle, and every where I looked people were munching! Envy

Anyway, I'm ok now, just sipping some water,ds is curled up next to me having a snooze and tonight we are going to see the Tall Ships. There will be food galore there - oh well, It's a bit like purging my soul! Should not have eaten to exess in the 1st place!

OP posts:
FatGirlThin · 09/08/2010 18:49

OOOOOOoooooh it's so hard isn't it?! My friend made sandwiches for the children, nothing fancy just fresh, soft, white bread and ham. I could have killed for a bite!
Well done for resisting though. It's probably completely the wrong attitude but I keep thinking of this diet as pennance (not in a religious way) for my previously atrocious greed Blush
So far I've avoided any social eating. Just can't handle that yet!
Did you do your sneaky weigh in?

TrollyDolly1 · 10/08/2010 09:34

Arrrrrggggghhhhhh! Step away from the Percy Pig biscuits!

I have had a good sniff but am STARVING! Last night was torture! Food every where. From yuky food vans that I would never eat from in a million years (normaly) to beautiful little cup cakes!

I would normaly have woken this morning feeling very proud - instead feel nothing. Just hunger!

Didn't have my sneaky weigh in,felt if I had not lost enough (in my opinion) I would have given in, so will wait until tonight.

Have been on numourous chat/forum things and once this inital week is over, expect a good loss in the second week but then it will slow to around 3lbs a week. Cant help thinking SW average losses are 1 1/2 - 2 lbs a week. And you can eat.

Probably just down today, will probably feel better after my weigh in tonight, hopefully

Hi all
Thought I would join in am just starting week 8 (weigh in on mondays) and going strong, I have lost 2st 4lbs so far and need to lose between another 2st 11lbs and 3st 3lbs (will decide when I get there!)

This is actually my 4th time doing this diet Blush
The 1st time I lost 3 stone and then found myself unexpectedly pregnant and had to stop! then when he was 2 I finally plucked up the courage and willpower to do it again and lost 7stone in 6 months, the maintenance started well but things started slipping and I again found myself pregnant and then had the added shock of it being twins! When they were born DP and I decided that after 5 years together it was time to get married so in 6 weeks I dropped 2st 1lb and we married just before christmas.
My sil convinced me to try sw so I started that in january but it was very slow going and even though I was 100% for 11 weeks I only managed to shift 12lbs and ended up giving in and pigging out Blush in june we went on holiday and when I saw the picks of me I was disgusted with how big I was again and started back on cambridge on 21st June and it has been very easy so far, my losses have been 12lbs,3.5lbs,3.5lbs,4lbs,3lbs,3lbs and 3lbs.
I am going on a 2 night minicruise in 2 weeks and plan to stay on plan for lunch and dinner and then have a buffet breakfast but leave the carbs alone!

I look forward to getting to know you all and share in all the highs and lows of this diet x

FatGirlThin · 10/08/2010 11:55

Hi 3ismylot! That's a great loss in 8 weeks, well done Smile. The mini-cruise plan sounds very sensible to me. Are you still ss or ss+? Do you know when you go to 810 etc? I think my CDC is a bit fanatical about SS and when I said to her I would like to move to SS+ in a while (when I've lost more of course) she was didn't look very happy!

I know what you mean Trolly about slimming world being 1 1/2- 2lbs/week and you can eat BUT when I was doing ww (and slimming world - although didn't last long on that) I found I would lose 1lb one week, then 1/2 lb another, then maybe 2lbs then be reeeeeallly good and stay the same. At least although Cambridge doesn't sound that fast considering the deprivation at least it is consistent. I lost 2 1/2 stone on ww and it took me 8 months 3ismylot has (almost) lost the same in 8 weeks. Honestly, it is worth it!

Right I'm off to assuage my breath d'eath with a shake, maybe I'll be brave and try a soup .

TrollyDolly1 · 10/08/2010 18:33

Welcome 3ismylot! Grin For a while then I thought it was just FatGirlThin and me! Grin Nice to have you along for the ride!

So ............ 7lbs off. Bit gutted to be honest. However, I did have my jeans on. Then to make matters worse I ate a grape without even realising I had done it!

Got a few new flavours - Bananna and butterscotch. We will see how we get on with those.

3ismylot, you can be our resident expert. 7 stones in 6 months! Tha's an amazing lose! Wow. How much water are you drinking each day? I echo FatGirlThin's thoughts on your mini cruise plan. Very sensible.

Speaking of sensible, you are right FatGirlThin, think I was just down this morning. Looking back - it's that bad relatinship with food again isn't it? Why was I considering eating a biscuit at 7am. At work tomorrow, will have to resist that Victoria sponge again (along with every thing else of course)

I will be thin, I will be thin, I will be thin ........

OP posts:
FatGirlThin · 10/08/2010 19:37

YARGH! NO MORE SOUPS FOR ME! They are vile, vile, vile! Like crap cuppa soup with added chalk. GROSS Envy

Trolly - 7lbs is great, means you probably won't go down to a very small number next week. Also jeans are heavy, wear something light next week to give yourself an extra 1lb off!

I tortured myself by going to tescos today - online shopping for the next few months I think, it was awful and the biscuit aisle made me want to give the whole thing up

Oh and if you are feeling down picture me, sniffing the jammy dodger dh was about to eat so hard that when I lifted my face up I had jam on my nose Blush

TrollyDolly1 · 10/08/2010 19:45

Grin - lol!!! You do make me laugh! I'm feeling better about it now, going to give it my all this next week. I am at work next week for my CDC "session" so have to wait until next friday (the 20th), drink lot's and lot's of water and embrace it! Smile lol. There is more to life than food.

Just so I have it straight, am I right in thinking your not keen on the soup? Lol? Grin. I didn't like them, I used to sit and stir and stir and stir them. Don't know what I expected that to do! lol.

Bought myself some nice bath bombs from lush yesterday, so am off for a nice soak. Grin

OP posts:
3ismylot · 11/08/2010 07:36

Trolly 7lbs is a great loss and you will probably get a similar loss this week if you avoid all the goodies at work Wink

Fatgirlthin I hate the soups too! Infact I pretty much live on the tetras and bars now with the occasional banana or choc orange shake thrown in lol, Keep resisting those digestives and I promise you in another week you will hardly think about those naughty foods x

I find sniffing the foods that I am fancying and the family are eating does help but have never ended up with jam on my nose lol
The only bad thing about doing this diet for me is that I become a feeder! This week I have made flapjacks, scones and fairycakes and as DH is following ww its making his life harder lol

Im really hoping to lose 4lbs this week so that I can drop down into the next stone bracket but have a feeling I will only lose 3!

I was gonna have the 2 days off for the cruise but then I decided I didnt want to face the hell of those first 3 days hunger again Smile I think thats what keeps me on track I dont wanna be hungry again lol

Im doing ss at the moment and will do an 810 week about week 11 or 12 then back to ss, I may do the odd ss+ week but try not to as I find it can lead to temptation.

I will probably start moving up to ss+ once I am a few weeks from goal.

Puddingtoast · 11/08/2010 13:08

Howdy, i'm on day 8, so glad i've found this forum!
The Minmins forum is good too, but slow as well.

I've started at 12s10, and gained 3lbs in the first 2 days (wtf!?!) but lost it and another 3lbs by the time of my 1st weigh in.I'm now 12s7, and my goal is 9s7.

I've put myself out there with respect to food; we hosted a bbq and a lunch last week, so i was in the thick of it as far as food goes, but wasn't tempted :) I'm also making evening meals for my husband and baby son, and have to be very carfeul not to lick my fingers!

keep up the good work ladies. it's so nice to have a break from food! and to think about my eating habits as well.

nancy10 · 11/08/2010 15:56

Hi, I'm starting CD on the 23rd August, we are going on holiday so am planning to start it on my first day back. I'm really looking forward to making a start but am also very nervous about failing. I have lost 3 st with ww but have regained it all Sad I just can't face starting all over agin with the points and losing 1-2 lbs per week. This will be my first time doing the CD and i'm hoping that it'll just get me started really. I weigh 14st 4lb and I'd be happy at 11st 7lb.

FatGirlThin · 11/08/2010 17:57

Welcome Pudding and Nancy!
Pudding - I know what you mean about habits, it is interesting to see what bad habits you have slipped into when there's NO food allowed.

SO....I thought Tescos was bad yesterday but there was worse to come today. Inadvertently I ended up at a children/adults lunchtime party. The list of villains present were : scotch eggs, hula hoops, frazzles, little sandwiches, pizza, garlic bread, chunks of homemade bread and cheese, homemade quiche, jam tarts, fairy cakes, doughnuts, chocolate brownies and of course birthday cake

And I had....
About 5 glasses of water and 2 trips to the toilet.

Repeat after me: little black dress by Christmas, little black dress by Christmas ARGH! Misery thy name is Cambridge. Not helped by the fact that I tried the apple and cinnamon porridge this morning (minging) and butterscotch shake (not terrible but not great either).

What do you guys make of the bars (if you've tried them)I'm holding out hope that they are good. I need to actually EAT something.

3ismylot · 11/08/2010 19:29

Fatgirlthin the bars are fab!! My fave is the choc orange Grin they arent like proper chocolate but they feel like a naughty treat and if you keep them in the fridge they take ages to chew

Puddingtoast Welcome Smile it starts hard with making meals but you soon get used to it, I even find myself feeling better doing the cooking cos I can feel smug knowing I have resisted all the naughties lol

Nancy10 cd is fab (after the first week!) and that 3 stone will be gone in no time !

My eldest had his preschool booster today and I have never known him make such a fuss lol it took a bribe of 2 mini packets of haribo and a mini roll for his arm to stop hurting lol
I have to take the twins for their 1 yr jabs tomorrow which will be fun!!
DH is working late tonight so I am just enjoying the peace of the kids being in bed and having the tv to myself Grin might have my last shake of the day in a minute, gonna have a choc tetra (my fav) and gonna really savour it Smile

FatGirlThin · 11/08/2010 20:20

OOOh, 3ismylot, can I recommend pouring your tetra into a big mug, filling the rest up with very hot water and you have a giant hot chocolate - yum Smile
Roll on week 3 and the bars....

TrollyDolly1 · 11/08/2010 21:01

Evening all!

Welcome pudding and Nancy

Just got to the hotel, resisted all food stuffs, although that Victoria sponge found its way into the galley again.Grin. I sampled the butterscotch today, like you FatGirlThin was not amazed by it but it was drinkable!

Nancyyou should go, enjoy your holiday (off any where nice?) and then start with a clean slate the day you get back. your weight will be off in no time!

I love frazzles mmmmmmmm .........

OP posts:
Puddingtoast · 12/08/2010 07:00

wow 3ismylot, twins + a preschooler? I salute you! Full on! I have a 5 month old baby boy - very cute right now but also full on!

FatGirlThin, i like the mantra :)

I have only tried the peanut butter bars. Now bear in mind i am a HUGE fan of peanut butter - i will take what i can get. But i'm not sure non-die-hard fans will enjoy the texture? And it's the saltiest product yet. I don't mind pretty much all the shakes and soups and porridges i've tasted so far - odd i know! I guess that shows how much i'm used to processed food :P Butterscotch was my least favourite htough.

Question: how often are you weighing yourselves? My CDC says only once a week, but i can't resist jumping on the scales once a day.

TrollyDolly1 · 12/08/2010 12:25

Oh...... Just got in from my run, in the Florida heat. Didn't do amazingly well but did ok considering. I did have my shake before I went, think I maybe should have. As I have such a long day ahead and I wasn't 'hungry' when I woke I didn't bother having it. Should have though.

Pudding, I have hid my scales at the back of a very tall cupboard as to be honest I would jump on them every time I walked past ( which is a lot seeing as they live in the bathroom and I tend to be in there a lot ). I just think if I got on and it didn't show what I wanted it to I would cave in and eat rubbish.

How much water is every body getting through?

OP posts:
FatGirlThin · 12/08/2010 19:14

Trolly! You must have all your shakes, it's about nutrition, not calories. You won't be getting the vit and minerals you need. Now I don't want to hear about you missing any again

Pudding - I'm weighing myself everyday which is really bad I know. Basically I'm losing a steady 1/2lb per day. I told my CDC this when I saw her this morning (just briefly to swap some shakes) and she said she was surprised it wasn't more! I don't particularly like peanuts anyway so I'm looking forward to more bar reviews Smile

I am drinking the 4pts of water per day and I top up all my shakes with more water than they say, so probably nearer 5pts I think. I reckon before this diet I probably drank 1 pint/day + 1 or 2 cups of tea Shock

Off to epilady my furry tongue Wink

TrollyDolly1 · 12/08/2010 21:08

Epilady your tounge lol Grin . Lol. My breath is yuk, bought a tounge scapper. I did have my shake after my run, it was just to early really, but in future will have it before hand to give me some more energy, I'll still end up eating 3, I just didn't space them out effectively considering my exercise. Grin

OP posts:
TrollyDolly1 · 12/08/2010 21:08

Oh, and tried banana flavor today, not bad !

OP posts:
lurkingsnurker · 13/08/2010 11:52

Hello ladies Smile. Can i join you please?

I am on day 8 - first weigh in last night... ... 9lbs off

I didn't have a great start either tbh - a couple of cheats (sunday lunch at inlaws was tres difficile), so am now on day 3 of SS only (did a few days of SS+ last week too - CDC recommended it as a start). Feel a bit better today than yesterday, but the vile taste in my mouth is something else. An epilady might be in order FGT!

I quite like the soups - though blend them for a long time to try and get rid of the chalky texture - and add more water. I like the spicy chilli one. And choc mint shakes are goooood - like them hot!

Hopefully more support here than on CD board which I find quite slow too.

Have a good day!

Puddingtoast · 13/08/2010 16:22

wow that's a brilliant first weigh in LurkingS!

I have to admit i'm getting realllly bored of these meals. i haven't strayed, but i think the novelty is wearing off. I'm only on day 11! :( Must keep with it though, it will be worth it. I have a wedding in a month's time so it will be nice to be a stone lighter!

X

FatGirlThin · 13/08/2010 16:49

Oh Pudding, I'm on day 11 and I'm hitting a wall of pain here. I'm so miserable without any food at all. I asked my CDC if it would be the worst thing if I had a bar tonight as I am missing eating so much. She said maybe I should try 810 or SS+ if I am struggling this much. Do any of you have any experience of either of these? My CDC said I would still lose weight but slower Sad - tbh if it is much slower then I'm starting to agree with Trolly and wonder if it's better to just do WW or Slimming world!
