July 2026 Mounjaro starters

BritbirdUK · 28/06/2026 11:49

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

Second jab and 2lbs off. So not loads by any means. But also not difficult. Wasn’t tempted by open biscuits earlier which is a win. Am concentrating on healthy choices with lots of veg and finding that I am quite full after meals though it’s not translating to smaller portion sizes yet.

RedFatball · 03/07/2026 06:27

Oooof I have a lot more to lose than some. 5'9" and 16st8 starting weight. Would like to be around 11st so 5.5st to go!

we are all on the same journey though, and that's what counts

hussherbye · 03/07/2026 06:47

Weighed this morning, 4lb down since Monday so really pleased with that! This is day two since my first jab and feeling more gassy this morning, hoping it will pass! I definitely could have eaten less yesterday but ended up on 1300 for the day- was aiming for 1500. I’ve read going too low isn’t good? And thanks- the pen is back in the fridge

Puddleduck2013 · 03/07/2026 07:29

Had a bit of a reality check yesterday. My hairdresser was on Mj for a year and lost loads of weight. She stopped taking it 3 months ago as is trying for a baby and is now back to square one. Said the weight back on at a scary pace. Even when she took a one week break on holiday she put half a stone back on.
She also lost a lot of hair.

I don’t want to put a downer on everyone but it did reinforce that this isn’t a magic wand and seems to be a lifetime commitment.

Her advice was to stay on the lowest dose possible, have patience and lose weight slowly.

ChocolateIsBad · 03/07/2026 08:02

That sounds like good advice. I only took my first dose yesterday and didn’t feel particularly hungry last night but ate my dinner. Gall bladder issues can also occur with rapid weight loss.

No real side effects yet. Just burping more and for the first time yesterday no craving for chocolate/sweet things all day so my only snacking between meals was an apple with a little peanut butter. Don’t know if drug effect or imagining it!

missedtherainbow · 03/07/2026 08:25

Hi,
i would like to join please. I’m just waiting for my first one to be delivered.
i am very overweight 18st and 5ft3.
Cant wait to get started but nervous about any side effects. I have a child with complex disabilities who is at home with me full time and needs a lot of care so I’m hoping not to feel sick.
i haven’t told anyone I’m starting the injections and don’t intend to but I don’t really see many people very often anyway!
mid love to get to 10st. I’ve a very long way to go but I feel hopeful for the first time in a very long time.

BritbirdUK · 03/07/2026 11:38

Morning all and welcome to all the newbies!

@hussherbye Well done on the loss! Hope you have a good time at the food and drink market. I was given some good advice by a friend who was on MJ for about a year. She said don't stop yourself from eating because you will resent it and are more likely to fall off the wagon. Some places do child portions but also just go slower, choose something a little different to what you might do normally and take advantage of friends and share portions! She also said to think about whether you want to use calories on your food or alcohol as it is harder to do both. Hope you have a great time whatever.

@Clairedebear101286 I has a sore throat as well when I started.

@Nomorepants well done on the loss! That is brilliant.

@RedFatball If it helps I have a lot more to go than that! As you say though, we are all in it together.

I did my first weigh in this week. When I have done Slimming World/WW etc in the past I have found I have 2 extremes - either in week 1I lose pretty much nothing or I lose a huge amount. This time I went with the huge amount and have lost 11lbs. I was shocked when I saw the scales and I know that isn't ever going to be repeated but I was really pleased.

I am jabbing again this evening. I have definitely had more cravings - yesterday although I wasn't massively hungry I REALLY wanted sweet stuff. I resisted for the most part though and ended up just having a single biscuit. In the past, given there was a whole pack there, I would've potentially gone through a half pack so I see that as huge progress. Not sure the plans for this weekend but think we are going to a BBQ. Luckily a lot of the food will be homemade so a bit healthier. I am really looking forward to dinner tonight though - hubby has made a turkey chilli with loads of beans and serving it with red rice. He also did a gazpacho which will be nice to graze on through the week.

Wow 11lbs is amazing. I did my third jab on Tuesday and have lost 8lbs so far...

Thank you. 8lbs is really good as well - nearly 3lbs per week!

I had my first jab of wegovy today. My sw is12st 5lb, bmi 28. For a long time I felt that I should be able to sort this out myself, but at over 60, with high BP and borderline high cholesterol, I decided to go for it. I am feeling full from lunch (Mushroom omelette) but really want to keep my protein intake up. I have been strength training for a year so don't want to lose too much muscle. I am feeling a bit gassy this afternoon but nothing bad. It is good to have the support of everyone here.

Nomorepants · 03/07/2026 16:43

@BritbirdUK wow! That’s a huge loss. Big well done.

@missedtherainbow sounds like a positive start in tough circumstances.

@Puddleduck2013 I think if we don’t change our habits gain is inevitable. But scary it’s at that pace. I have decided to stick on the 2.5mg dose for my second order. Have a bolt discount code if anyone wants it.

Puddleduck2013 · 03/07/2026 16:59

@Nomorepantsyes and on balance I would rather take that chance than spend the rest of my hating my body

and yes please to a Bolt code. Have just spent £150 through Asda and that’s not sustainable

hussherbye · 03/07/2026 17:19

@BritbirdUKfan bloody tastic! Also @RedFatball such a great start! 👏

I agree- I’m reading that book that someone recommended and it is talking all the time about using the injections as a way to reset habits - that’s the key to this I think.

im struggling to get enough protein, tea don’t want to have to go for artificial methods, what’s the easiest way to boost- eggs? I bought some turkey slices to snack on too

Nowimhereandimlost · 03/07/2026 17:41

Pen arrived and in the fridge for tomorrow. I've noticed a last hurrah mentality has kicked in, I'm eating things I'd usually be ok at resisting, pack it in before I don't feel like having it anymore. How mad is that! I know I need to understand what's drives my overeating, I really don't want to be on WLI forever. I just have no idea how I even go about that.

I was planning on shopping about for the best price (I only paid £108 for this first pen) but also wondering how that works exactly as you start to lose weight...

Tulips45 · 03/07/2026 19:41

I rarely post on MN but here goes

BMi is 34 and currently the heavieat Ive ever been... Ive been the same weight for years since having kids...overweight but not to the stage where I was bothered by it. Then peri menopause hit and it seems just looking at food makes me pile the weight on. I have slightly raised cholestral too I d like to lower. I have a severe foot disability meaning exercise can be tricky. I cant run, jump, balance, do anything that causes hard impact on the ankles and even walking too long can cause problems.

TBH I dont eat that badly. Have a mostly vegi diet and stay away from fried and greasy foods as I have no gallbladder. Im also not partial to sweets/cake/chocolate but I love carbs and fizzy drinks!

Just been approved for MJ. But Im nervous due to severe health anxiety which includes fear or medications and side effects.

BettinaBumblebee · 03/07/2026 22:03

@BritbirdUK and @RedFatball really well done to you both on a superb first week! In the past, I was never one of those to have a big weight loss in the first week of a diet so I’m keeping my expectations realistic. However, I’m hopeful for a good first weigh in just to get a kick start and the motivation that goes with it 🤞

@hussherbye totally agree that we can use this opportunity to reset habits. That’s the approach I’ll try for in any case.

My first week is going ok so far. Feel relatively disinterested in food but able to eat meals 3 times a day. My portion sizes are much smaller and I’m not feeling hungry in between. Already getting fed up with salad though and need to get my finger out on meal planning.

I have been watching some YouTube videos about Mounjaro and came across a guy called Mark Lewis. He mainly posts about fitness, not something I’m usually drawn to, and has no “expert” knowledge but I found his very down to earth and slightly irreverent approach to his experience of Mounjaro refreshing. Not sure on posting links and what is or isn’t allowed on MN but will have a go below and hope for the best.

Welcome to all the new joiners. Lovely to meet you all and look forward to doing this together!

Well done for the losses so far - fantastic!

Day 4 for me today. It’s difficult to tell if I have real suppression or am just making good choices. I guess I'm not really thinking about food or am that hungry. I feel odd, I’m aware when I’m empty but I’m not desperately hungry. My family had a Chinese last night, I had a lovely Ceasar salad which I really enjoyed. I ate 1 prawn cracker but didn’t go back for more. My husband finished off his chocolate orange which I LOVE, I had one segment and have only just realised it didn’t cause me to then think about chocolate and go and find a substitute which I’m super happy with.

I’ve tracked everything, the only side effect I have is a dry mouth, I’m thirsty all the time!

I did feel a bit peckish late last night so am wondering if the effects are dropping off now so today might be a bit testing, especially because it’s my good friends 50th birthday party tonight! I’m making dessert - usually this would mean me eating ingredients as I go, I am driving though so no drinking which will help. I’m going to try and work out today which will help my mindset, but I’m off to work now.

Have a great day all x

BackontheMJtrain · 04/07/2026 09:44

Hi all! I had my first 2.5mg injection (for the 3rd time) last night. Previously got down to 11 stone 11, was a small size 14 and happy with that for my frame / age.

Have gone up to 13st 6 3/4 so back on the jabs! I worried about the lack of suppression as it is m 3rd time starting on this dose, but this morning have the usual nauseous feeling that I did when I started before, so that bodes well that it has taken a hold

Will be following everyone's progress 😃

RedFatball · 04/07/2026 10:17

Morning! Im off for a nice long walk this morning. I'm not going to be able to afford to stay on the jabs long term so definitely using the 12 months I have planned for to reset habits. I love walking and it has slipped since I had kids (they are 19,14,12) so it's been a while!

hoping if I can lose the weight and develop good habits they will stick...

Puddleduck2013 · 04/07/2026 10:38

So did first jab yesterday. Only change I observed was not feeling hungry in the evening. Not sure if that’s my brain playing tricks but no appetite either this morning. Im at work and normally I’d be starving by this point.

MammaGnomes · 04/07/2026 14:33

2nd jab last night and 2lb off. I was a little disappointed at first, I was expecting more really but I worked out that if I lose 2lb a week I could be at goal for Christmas.

Ive got a big awards ceremony tonight with food and alcohol and a day trip to Spain booked for next Friday so I’m not expecting any loses next week. But we’ll see.

the suppression is high again today. I thought last weeks might have just been psychological. Happy with that though because weekends are my nemesis.

I’ve been at a sports tournament this morning with my daughter and there was cakes sweets chocolate passed around. I didn’t touch a crumb which is huge for me.

ChocolateIsBad · 04/07/2026 16:10

Since first jab on Thursday, I feel like I don’t want to eat ever again! But forcing myself. Feeling a bit nauseous most of the time. It’s very odd!

Bought Sainsbury’s high strength Biotin supplement yesterday to hopefully help avoid any hair loss. I hope this feeling wears off eventually. Otherwise no other side effects and the burping from yesterday has resolved. Curious to see if I feel effects wearing off as week progresses. Hope everyone else is tolerating it.

I need ideas for meals and to plan them better. Bought quinoa yesterday but it doesn’t look too appetising- actually nothing does! It reminds me of Covid when I lost my sense of taste and smell and everything ‘tasted’ of plain pasta.

Clairedebear101286 · 04/07/2026 16:39

Food noise has returned today - bit disappointed if I am honest.

All I can think of is food :(

Trying to resist and also went on a 5.5 mile walk so at least that is something!

Good luck everyone

LovelyLapin · 04/07/2026 17:06

Zero symptoms apart from headache and sore throat which could be completely unrelated.

Zero hunger - could quite easily have eaten nothing at all yesterday (which is a bit scary!).

While you’re waiting for the pens to arrive, try to cut down on carbs.

LovelyLapin · 04/07/2026 17:07

@Puddleduck2013- when I’m low carbing I get a big starting loss. But also rapid gain. It’s mostly water and I don’t worry about a quick gain. It’s usually off just as quickly.
