July 2026 Mounjaro starters

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

So I did my first MJ jab last night, I was a bit apprehensive but the instructions were clear and it didn’t hurt. so far so good I slept well and have eaten a good high protein breakfast, I have to say I’m very full but maybe that’s wishful thinking!

@Rainingcatsandogit does feel
weird choosing to inject a medicine but if it was for anything else we’d just get on with it. I know I need the help as I cannot do it by myself (believe me I’ve tried) and as I am, I am at risk of serious health issues in the future. Focus on what it can do for your health and block out the disapproval of others. Some of my friends are anti and slate other people for using WLI (I’ve not told them!) but to be honest I think with some there is jealousy and with others they are naturally slim and just do not get the struggle. Crack on, I’m sure you won’t regret it x

Welcome to all July starters!

Technically I’m a restarter who has been off the meds for six months. It’s not gone so well - but the less said about that the better! I also don’t want to lead with worry about weight gain for those of you taking the jabs for the first time.

I’m sure we’ll get into it later!

But for now, having jabbed this morning, I’m focusing on protein, rest and water - and staying out of my head.

Wishing you all good days, weeks and months as we get this show on the road!

BritbirdUK · 01/07/2026 12:34

@hussherbye that is great on keeping reasonably within calories. And I 100% feel you on the toilet trips - I feel like I am constantly needing a wee! I would be interested to see the high protein list as well - not looking for any processed stuff ideally, just fresh. I am planning to weigh weekly on my jab day I think....

@RedFatball I was aiming lower but then looked and it was saying higher so I thought I would settle on 1500. I seem to be naturally settling at lower though.

@BettinaBumblebee @Puddleduck2013 welcome! In terms of side effects I haven't really had any. I had a headache the first few days but since then I have been ok. Today I have only had a bit of melon and a banana on toast and have got a bit of stomach pains.

Joining as I took my first jab last night. Bit of a headache and achey generally this morning but otherwise fine. Taking it easy. Just going to eat little and often protein based meals and plenty of water.
I have a lot to lose but committed for the long haul. Like others I eat well but too much so hoping this is the tool I need and that there are cheaper alternatives available by the time I get to maintenance as I suspect I will need something for life.
I have arthritis in my knees and have heard that it can help by reducing inflammation so looking forward to moving more. I’m also starting a free 24 week exercise programme with Nuffield Health so hope that I can build strength while I lose.

I’ve been planning so long I’m just excited to have started.

hussherbye · 01/07/2026 18:07

My jabs have arrived! Planning on doing the first one later as I read it’s better to do it prior to a period of fasting ie sleeping!

hussherbye · 01/07/2026 20:45

First one in…

RedFatball · 01/07/2026 20:58

I have found that I am cooking evening meals as normal, but having enough for leftovers for lunch the next day. I'm not doing a Zero Spend challenge, but taking lunch to work is hopefully going to help pay for the jabs!

LovelyLapin · 01/07/2026 22:15

First jab in here too. Have a headache and my throat feels a bit strange. Will take some painkillers and have an early night.

Does anyone ever lose weight from the very start or is it only after a few months?

BettinaBumblebee · 01/07/2026 22:45

First jab last night and pleased to say no real side effects today.. Maybe slightly headachy on waking and very mild nausea now and again. Today I’ve eaten very simply with protein, salad, fruit etc and am also drinking plenty of water. Not sure if I feel any suppression just yet but I have eaten much smaller portions today which can only be a good thing in the early days.

Happy to see our numbers growing and thanks to @BritbirdUK for getting us off to a great start! 😁

hussherbye · 02/07/2026 07:28

@LovelyLapin from what I’ve read the weight loss is usually really good to begin with, particularly the first week

Concierge · 02/07/2026 08:51

Hello, I’d like to join this thread too please! Took my 2nd MJ jab on Monday. First week I felt fine (lost 2 pounds) but since taking my 2nd jab have felt a bit off - might be coming down with cold or may be hayfever but anyway have lost 6 pounds since starting. Not eating enough protein though.
has anyone else felt a little acid refluxy? Any tips for this? Off on hols tomorrow and have bought a travel cool thing from Amazon to keep the one cool - only issue is have been waiting for right time to tell DH and it hasn’t come yet! He is going to moan I’m wasting money ….. I know it’s not as need to shrink! Heavier now then ever been - 5ft 9 starting 13.8 st.
good luck everyone and looking fwd to the journey ahead!

Puddleduck2013 · 02/07/2026 10:39

I picked up my first prescription yesterday and it’s still sat untouched in my fridge! I’m too scared to start Confused

Me too.

Puddleduck2013 · 02/07/2026 12:17

Everyone has told me I’ll feel really sick and I have a busy few days.

@Rainingcatsandog maybe we should coordinate doing ours at the same time - moral boost and all that Grin

CluckYeahCluck · 02/07/2026 13:39

I understand the side effects are common - but common doesn't mean Everyone.

I read on my supplier's website that 10% of people get side effects.

Maybe that's an underestimate.

But personally I've only had one jab so far, 2 days ago (before bed) but I've had no side effects (yet.) Nothing.

So you may well be lucky and not get anything.

They're generally considered safe. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to get them just by filling in a form online and handing over your card details, like I did (I know I'm not big enough to get them from.the NHS so I'm paying a fortune for the private prescriptions. )

And if I do later get some minor side effects - which I'd expect to quickly wear off - I wouldn't let that stop me. The end result will make a bit of nausea very acceptable.

MammaGnomes · 02/07/2026 13:53

@Puddleduck2013 I was really nervous about side effects too. I took mine last Friday before bed and made sure I had pepto, Imodium, paracetamol & a laxative on my bedside table just in case (no idea what I was expecting)

so far so good. My only real effect is a headache which I’ve now had for 3 days. However I do suffer headaches and I’m super busy at work so it might actually not be connected.

no sickness or nausea and my bowel movements are completely normal.
my suppression was super high over the weekend but has eased off as the week has gone on.

honestly I feel fine. So much so I’m actually wondering if I’ll have lost anything when I weigh in on Saturday.

take a deep breathe and go for it!

ChocolateIsBad · 02/07/2026 13:59

Hi all

Took my first dose about an hour ago. Not sure what I expected to happen but ate my lunch straight after and back to work.

My back story is I’m just under 12 stone (5’5), having gone from 13 1/2 stone to just under 11 about 3 yrs ago using SW. Since Christmas, gained about 13 pounds. Stopped going to SW as fed up with it and didn’t follow it that closely. So here I am! Hoping to lose about 16-18 pounds and gain some muscle or keep what I have. Been fighting weight gain for good part of my life.

A lot of my “new” clothes no longer fit, especially trousers so I’m very annoyed with myself about this but aiming to get back into them. I need to start doing some weight training so going to start tonight. My DH is also trying to lose weight w/o injections so he’s very supportive.

I’ve only told my DH and have hidden pack under the blueberries in fridge as my DC never venture near these.

One question I had was when I was priming the injection, there was just one little bubble that appeared at end of needle and I wondered if this was enough? I expected some drug to shoot off the top of the needle.

Good luck to everyone!

LovelyLapin · 02/07/2026 15:43

Mine didn’t come out when I primed the first or second time. But it did the third time?!

It didn’t hurt at all.

Maybe a mild headache and sore throat. But like MammaGnomes, I’m prone to headaches anyway.

I can be really good at low carbing all week and then blow it all in a day. I’m hoping this stops that. So I won’t be surprised if I don’t have any early losses, although I have gained today (had non low carb meal out and ice cream after as my final big meal before the jab!). So I’ll set that as my starting weight!!!

I read a lot of the side effects are actually keto flu as people dramatically cut carbs. Hoping not to get that since low carb is my normal.

BritbirdUK · 02/07/2026 16:50

Oh wow.... I have been in a meeting all day and just come back to so many new joiners. Welcome everyone. It has been a busy 24 hours. Last night for dinner I had turkey shish (homemade) in a seeded protein pita with a tiny bit of potato and veg. It was really tasty and I ate it all but then felt a bit stuffed. I definitely didn't overeat and there weren't that many calories in it but I just felt a bit meh after it. I did really enjoy it though.

Then today I went to a meeting where the only options were pastries and muffins. I stupidly didn't think to bring a banana or something. The meeting went on until 1 so I didn't get back to my desk until 2ish. I know I haven't had enough water. I felt hungry when I got back but not starving so I had some fruit and leftover risotto. I have had the risotto since Monday which is a miracle. It was half my dinner and I couldn't eat it. Normally that would have been not even all my lunch for Tues but it has only been today that I have been hungry enough to eat it. But then I think I ate it too fast (alongside some fruit) and felt over full again. But weirdly still hungry and wanting to eat.

Tomorrow is my 2nd jab. My first one was lunchtime so I am torn as to whether I should do first thing or in the evening when I am home. I am going to weigh as well but also I appreciate that the weather is going to have an impact plus my body has potentially gone into survival mode because of the sudden drop in calories/sugar.

Hi all, welcome new people!

I did my first injection yesterday, no side effects, hunger almost non existent and also no cravings- even alcohol 🤪

Have eaten 500 ish calories so far, trying to focus on plenty of whole foods, protein and fibre. I’ve been tracking food closely since Monday and keeping to 1500, feeling a difference already. I also think my face looks much less bloated, but that could be due to having significantly less alcohol.

the weekend is going to be interesting- local food and drink market where I’d normally have some street food and probably 4 pints, I’ve already looked to see which vendor does the healthiest option and I’m planning on having halves and drinking slowly, we’ll see!!

BTW it says to keep used pens at room temperature so I’ve got mine in a box in the garage- do you think that’s right or should it be in the fridge?

RedFatball · 02/07/2026 17:48

The water retention and inflammation losses in the first few weeks can be quite dramatic apparently, but then it slows down. I'd like to keep it between 1 and 2lbs eventually as that seems to be what is recommended for healthy and sustainable limits

Store in a refrigerator (2 °C – 8 °C). Do not freeze. If the pen has been frozen, DO NOT USE.

Mounjaro KwikPen can be stored unrefrigerated not above 30 ºC for up to 30 days after first use and then the pen must be discarded.

Store in fridge if you can but can be kept outside of fridge after opening if for example you are travelling etc. I’d keep in fridge if easy access to one.

Hi Everyone, may I join in too? I had my first jab on Tuesday and like many of you I have felt a mixture of excitement, worry and fear about what's to come. I have always had issues with my weight, overweight as a child, lost around 3 stone when I was 18 and through my life (I am nearly 60) have put weight on, lost weight (to some degree) and then in my 50s it's crept up and has started to really concern me as I can really feel the physical, emotional and psychological effect it has on me.
So here I am hoping that MJ will work for me. I am 5ft 6 and 13 stone. If I could get to
10st 7ish I would be delighted...and feel like it's a miracle tbh.
A few days in I am eating in a healthy balanced way which has lead to far fewer calories than I would like (less than 1000, I'm aiming for 1400), food feels quite unappealing (which is very unusual for me) and I am having mild stomach cramps which I very much hope disappear as they are all that I can focus on at the moment.
Thanks all for sharing your journeys and good luck, I look forward to seeing how we all get on.

Nowimhereandimlost · 02/07/2026 19:31

I've been approved and pens arriving tomorrow! I'm out tomorrow eve so think Saturday will be my first one.

I'm 5'3 and 11st7. I'd like to get into the healthy range for my height which is around 9st7, so 2 stone to lose

Clairedebear101286 · 02/07/2026 20:04

Hey!

Took my first dose on Tuesday - went to just get information and ended up taking my first dose in the nurses station!
I am 5ft6 and 12 stone 7 - I have always been overweight and I have to starve myself to even be a size 12. My weight just keeps creeping up and up - I am almost 40 and have seen other colleagues gain lots of weight due to perimenopause and just trying to prevent that happening.
I am feeling nauseous, tired and my throat is sore - but not sure if its all connected to the jab.
I tried to eat a bowl of branflakes this morning and just could finish the bowl - I ate a small bit of chicken earlier - going to try to have some chicken korma soon also.
I am drinking plenty of water and actually enjoying it.
I know in a couple of months time I am going to be so delighted that I started them!
Skinny minnies by christmas :)
