July 2026 Mounjaro starters

BritbirdUK · 28/06/2026 11:49

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

@hussherbye I’m not too sure about alcohol. I wonder if it will dull down your desire to drink just like it’ll dull down the desire to eat? I’d be worried about any side effects being made worse with alcohol.

In saying that though my friend has been on it a year and she still enjoys a good few drinks at social events

BritbirdUK · 28/06/2026 20:10

@hussherbye I was told I can but try to avoid carbonated mixers as it can bloat you and to remember that it will hit differently. Some people are fine, others can't tolerate it.

Hello
I like to join please.
I’ve been lurking and have finally taken the plunge after decades of struggle. I usually manage to rein it in, but have put 10k on over the last 2 years and at 38 , this is not a good direction I’m heading in. I have an excellent nutrition knowledge (shameful really) but I love food , and portions and snacking are a huge problem for me

Miababe · 28/06/2026 21:30

Hello everyone, great to read your stories and look forward to hearing your successes too.
I have my 'pen' and am starting on Thursday of this week as I completing some other medication first. I've researched like many of you here and tried to lose my excess weight again recently at Slimming World but not very successfully unfortunately.

Recently I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnoea which was a bit of a shock because although my husband was complaining about my loud snoring I did not expect severe apnoea to be the outcome. I have a CPAP machine and ruddy mask to wear, and what with raised BP (controlled by medication) and some OA of hips and hands I have concluded I try something new.

I want to get rid of the food noise

5'6 - 13 stone 10 lbs

hussherbye · Yesterday 07:07

OMG I just did my official starting weight- 16st 0.7lb 😱 I have never been over 16. But I’m feeling really positive and I haven’t even done my first jab! 🤣

I really feel the combination of WLI, good nutrition, some exercise and YOU GUYS will mean success once and for all 🤞🏻

Today I’ve done a 20min upper body strength workout, I’ll have my breakfast later- Greek yogurt with berries granola and a bit of flax seed mix, then lunch is a chopped salad with sourdough crackers and phili- bit worried about my protein levels but I’ll see how I go.

Have a great day everyone!

BritbirdUK · Yesterday 09:56

@Twinwife welcome - you sound a bit like me. I know all about the nutrition side but just love good food and have issues with portion control.

Hi @Miababe I have had OSA since I was a child although I have only had a CPAP since my 20s. I wasn't overweight as a child so I doubt losing weight will totally get rid of it for me but I know it will make a huge difference.

Well done @hussherbye I have come into the office to find a pile of boxes that I thought had been unpacked still there so I am counting that as my mini workout for the day!

In other news I just had a banana on Jason's sourdough protein toast for breakfast and definitely feel full but the food noise is there. I have prepared for today with loads of snacks/stuff for lunch - chopped cucumber, peppers and cherry tomatoes, a few hard boiled eggs, bit of cottage cheese, 2 new potatoes and a bit of left over red rice from dinner. Tonight we have the bi-weekly pub quiz which I am nervous about. I drive and hubby drinks so am normally on diet coke but don't want to risk carbonated drinks. Also, it is a charity quiz so they come round with crisps half way and then the prize (which we often win) is a big box of chocolates which gets shared. I think I am going to find it hard to say no. I am planning on cooking beforehand. Attempting one of my favourites, risotto, but a much smaller portion than I would normally have.

Morning everyone.
I woke today feeling optimistic, can I really do this?!
I’m trying to eat cleanly before my first jab on Wednesday evening. for breakfast I had Skyr 0% yogurt, raspberries, blueberries, chia seeds, little bit of kefir to make it less thick and some whey isolate protein powder as I struggle to eat enough protein.

My top priority is to drink more water as I’m pretty rubbish at that.

@BritbirdUK I’m sure we are all going to have these testing times in weeks to come so I feel for you. Be kind to yourself x

I used the app me three sixty this morning to do a body scan so I can see how I change over the months. My husband thought it was hilarious and kept spinning the image around!

Anyway It’s a beautiful day, I mostly work outside so am enjoying the nice breeze.

Have a fabulous day everyone

Towanda12 · Yesterday 11:13

@YourJollyGoose
Good breakfast, although most advise full fat greek yogurt/skyr now 5% or 10%. More filling and less unecessary additives..but still better by far than the flavoured

Octnec · Yesterday 12:17

Happy Monday everyone!

@BritbirdUK risotto is a favourite of mine, what kind are you making? Hopefully you can avoid the crisps and chocolate but remember it’s all about balance. Unfortunately once I start with the crisps and chocolate I can’t stop though!

@hussherbye well done for getting your workout in! Breakfast and lunch sound lovely.

I had berries, 0% fat yoghurt and granola for breakfast but feel much hungrier than I usually do as I normally have full fat yoghurt. I take on board what you say regarding this @Towanda12 and will maybe go for 5% next time. For lunch I’m having a flat bread with mozzarella, prosciutto, rocket and pesto. I really need to order some food scales so that I can accurately track my calories.

My MJ will hopefully arrive today, thinking of taking it on Wednesday evening. I don’t work Fri-Sun so I’m hoping any side effects would hit me then rather than when I’m at work

YourJollyGoose · Yesterday 13:03

@Towanda12thanks, I was on full fat Greek yog but I’ve found this seems to suit my gut better.

BritbirdUK · Yesterday 13:18

Thanks @YourJollyGoose - I have a few meals out booked in the next few weeks, work related, so am a bit nervous as they are mainly set menus as well. Sounds like you are preparing well. Enjoy your day outside. So far I have unpacked boxes of gin from the event this weekend, packed up some hampers and had 2 meetings! It is already 1.15 and normally would be hungry but nothing. I am definitely thinking about food though. Might go grab my lunch box shortly....

@Octnec I love risotto and it is so easy to make. I have got a big bag of spinach in the fridge so was thinking red onion, goats cheese (not too much!) and spinach. Then doing some salad on the side. That lunch sounds yummy!

Can I join too please? I have had a notification that my pen has been delivered this morning so will use it this evening.
My starting weight is around 16 stone and I’m 5’6”. I’m 50 next year and want to be 12 stone by then.

BritbirdUK · Yesterday 14:10

Welcome @Edinvillian and good luck with the first jab tonight!

LovelyLapin · Yesterday 14:18

I got approved at the weekend and am just waiting for my package to arrive!

Does anyone else follow a low carb / high fat way of eating?

I already struggle a bit with constipation so am a bit scared about that.

Currently around 12 stone 7. 5ft 4. BMI 29.9.

BritbirdUK · Yesterday 14:40

Just had lunch. Wasn't massively hungry but I don't want to starve myself. I think I had too much because I know feel uncomfortable. It isn't like I am full of bloated, I don't know how to describe it. Whatever, it isn't great. I only had 2 hard boiled eggs, some cherry tomatoes, about 75g cottage cheese and a spoonful of red rice. I think I might need to space food out a bit more.

Welcome @Edinvilliansimilar stats to me!

I thought I’d redownload my fitness pal, I was thinking I’ve eaten really well today, the numbers say otherwise and haven’t had tea!

I have also downloaded ’shotsy’ for logging injections and side effects, I saw there were a few different options- what’s everyone using?

hussherbye · Yesterday 17:05

Also turns out I have weighed this much before- in fact 2lb more according to my old data on MFP. I also found two progress photos- one at 1.5 st lighter than now and one 2.5 st- good motivation to continue

Edinvillian · Yesterday 17:26

Just home from work and opened the box, the ice pack is completely melted, does it matter?

BritbirdUK · Yesterday 18:05

@hussherbye I downloaded shotsy but I thought it tracked everything. Can't really be faffed with 2 apps!

Oh didn’t even think of this! I’d say it’ll be fine, was it cool?

I missed delivery yesterday so now I’m worried that it’s been room temp for too long. Hope it’s ok!

Not really, no. 😢

MammaGnomes · Yesterday 19:54

Hi everyone!
room for another? I’ve been back and forth for ages about starting and after a holiday last year gave myself until Christmas to drop a stone otherwise I was going for it. I did really well with my diet and strength training in the run up to my wedding a couple of years ago and convinced myself I could do it again.

Anyway Christmas came and went but the stone didn’t shift and it’s taken me all this time to pluck up the courage. We go on an all inc holiday in August and so told myself I would start when we got back but realised I was just making yet more excuses and so decided to go for it now and deal with the holiday when it gets here. If I can drop a couple of pounds beforehand then it’s a bonus.

I had my first dose on Friday. Injected before bed thinking I would sleep through any side effects. Ended up being too worried about potential side effects and was awake half the night with no side effects!

woke up Saturday and felt fine. Didn’t feel hungry at all and forced down the poached salmon from my salmon salad pub lunch. Later went to my sisters for a football party she put on an amazing spread but I just didn’t feel hungry at all so had a little bit of pulled pork and salad.

my biggest worry on Saturday was alcohol. I was really unsure what to do and knew it would go noticed if I didn’t have any (I haven’t told anyone other than husband and one friend)
I took some gin with me and planned on just having a couple. Everytime I went to make one I just didn’t fancy it at all so I ended up staying on lime and soda all night and blamed it on an early start. (Still got some odd looks but they soon got bored of asking once their alcohol kicked in)

Sunday was much the same with hunger, didn’t really feel it. Had a protein meal replacement for breakfast and that kept me going until dinner. We had chicken fajitas and I managed one and a half. I normally fill my face with tortilla chips and dips too but had one and didn’t fancy another one.

ive woken up this morning hungry!!! Wtf! I thought I had cracked it!!
i had a meal replacement protein shake for breako again thinking I’ll defo need the cals and protein if the weekend is anything to go by. Come lunch time I was ready for it. I had a chicken wrap (to be fair I stopped at the wrap id normally have crisp and choc bar too)
come 4pm I was hungry again so had a protein bar knowing dinner was going to be late.
im sat here now waiting for my dinner to be ready and im starving.

im really hoping the weekend was physiological and that the suppression hadn’t kicked in yet and ive got it to look forward to.

other than that no side effects at all so far.

my stats if anyone is interested and you’ve gotten this far
age 39
Height 5ft7
SW 13st 4 (although I was 13st7 when I applied last week and seemed to have lost 3lb on my own)
GW around 10st 7lb (I think)

doingitthistime · Yesterday 20:05

Hi everyone, is it ok if I join, although strictly not for myself.
I'm a long time MJ user, lost 4st and maintaining on 5mg roughly every 10 days.
My family member though started 2 weeks ago, has barely been able to eat since and has lost a stone in that time.
Jab due tomorrow but I've advised them to let the level in their body reduce more then try 1.25 micro dose as this current loss of weight and appetite is not healthy. Thanks

hussherbye · Yesterday 20:21

Hi both welcome!

@doingitthistime I have no idea, I’m still waiting for mine to arrive!

just wondering what calories everyone is going to work towards?
