July 2026 Mounjaro starters

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

Joining - took first Mounjaro pen this week. So far no side effects but not feeling like much has changed. Will be interesting to see if there is a cumulative effect. Weather helping with healthier choices. Possibly eating more slowly.

I did tell my Dh & kids. A friend of his had highly recommended it so at least he knew about it.

Have been on a 3 year informal health kick. Lost 1.5 stone initially but have maintained since. Picked up quite a few good habits but not enough to budge remaining 4 stone that I’d like to lose. Have managed previously but menopause and sedentary job a challenge. Portion size and sugar addiction I think are the two things I am hoping to resolve.

Just saying I think it's a good idea to tell people close to you, because in the very unlikely event of an emergency, they can pass on info. For example, if you were in a crash, and needed surgery, they like to know, because obviously if it's emergency, you can't fast or stop the GLP before having it.

@hussherbye i put my stats into a TDEE calculator and then selected cutting, it worked out my cal deficit and my protein goals

So my day 2 update is that I feel very bloated and have been having some unpleasant sulphur burps!

I’ve found it a real struggle to eat 3 small meals and don’t feel I could eat any more.

I had yogurt, fruit and seeds for lunch, salmon and chickpeas for lunch and a small (for me!) portion of spaghetti bol for tea.

I think I’m at about 2.5l water.

I’m not sure if I’m meant to, but I’ve been tracking on nutracheck, and I’m not even at 1000kcal yet. I was hoping to hit 1200. Protein isn’t too bad - about 90g.

It really is a strange feeling!

This has also coincided with a monster period, so perhaps that’s not helped?

I started a couple of weeks ago and didn't join the June thread as it was already racing away so I might sneak in here if that's OK...

@hussherbye, if you use a TDEE calculator (google) it'll give you figure for calories to maintain your weight and also for 'cutting' (reducing usually 500 less) and for 'bulking' (for the body builders) . It'll also give you targets for protein ( usually 1,2 to 1,6g/kg of goal weight).
From my reading on threads here and vafious podcasts... Protein, fibre, water, sleep and strength training seem to be the keys. Small frequent meals with protein at each and avoid greasy/deep fried seems the most frequent advice..as well as keeping dose as low as poss as long as poss...now if i could just get started myself arfarf

Sometimes it's hard, isn't it, to do it all, especially to eat all the protein on GLP1

Welcome @Edinvilliansimilar stats to me!

I thought I’d redownload my fitness pal, I was thinking I’ve eaten really well today, the numbers say otherwise and haven’t had tea!

I have also downloaded ’shotsy’ for logging injections and side effects, I saw there were a few different options- what’s everyone using?

I’m using Glapp. It’s good so far, you can track side effects and mood and it tells you whereabouts in the cycle you are. I’m currently in cruise phase

BritbirdUK · Today 09:22

Ooo so many of us and we haven't even got to the 1st of the month!

@Edinvillian the nurse told me that as long as it isn't over 30 at any point then it doesn't need to be kept in the fridge. Our house is very old and retains heat so I decided I will keep it in certainly for the summer but I wouldn't panic too much.

@MammaGnomes welcome. I was the same - did really well before my wedding then fell off the wagon. Great to hear that there haven't been many side effects. I was panicking about the feeling a bit hungry as well but I am trying to stay positive. I haven't felt starving yet which is good, normally, given what I am currently eating, I would have been super hangry and needing a lot to eat!

@doingitthistime always good to have people join. Well done on the maintaining!

@hussherbye - I have a lot to lose to I have gone with 1500 calories. I haven't hit that yet and am also stressing as I haven't got enough protein in I don't think. I looked online and they said 1850 calories based on my weight but I felt that was too high so am going with the 1500. If I lose too much weekly then I will up it a bit as would rather do it properly and have it stay off than crash and burn.

@RedFatball Welcome! I was exactly the same with the June thread. People felt a lot further in and I was hoping there would be some new starters here.

@Twinwife have you tried snacking in between meals on things like veg etc? Someone said to me that can help.

@BritbirdUK will give that a try. However feel a bit less bloated today ! Had a good breakfast with nearly 40g protein, good amount of fibre too. So pleased with that!

BritbirdUK · Today 09:52

So, my day 3 update from yesterday. I had a really crazy day at work so it wasn't easy to eat/drink. I managed a LOT of water, at least 3L.

Food wise I struggled. I wasn't really that hungry and because of meetings and deadlines I couldn't get in snacks. I used 75g rice which was recommended for risotto and didn't even eat half of it. But on a positive note I have another portion for lunch one day.

At the pub I drank a ton of squash - nothing else really you can have. And I did allow myself 2 small chocolates from the winners tin. I enjoyed them and my brain was still saying "eat more" but I didn't. And I ignored the huge tray of crisps mid-way through.

Symptoms - I think my feeling full is indicated in my throat rather than my tummy (is that weird?!) I almost get a lump when I have eaten too much. Felt maybe a bit queasy but not properly. And headache I had for the first 2 days has gone.

Food noise - still there. Already I am thinking about what I should cook for dinner tonight. But I am able to resist it more. It doesn't help with the job I do. There is so much food available constantly if I want it. I keep telling myself I need to sell it not eat it!

Anyway, another day done. And apologies if I am talking too much. I often overshare and I don't really have anywhere aside from here.
