July 2026 Mounjaro starters

BritbirdUK · 28/06/2026 11:49

I started my mounjaro journey this weekend (Friday) but thought I would start a July thread as it is so close to the start of the new month.

My background - I love good food. My issue isn't necessary that I eat the wrong stuff it is just that I eat too much. I enjoy nice restaurants, Michelin stars and cooking from scratch. But my portion control is terrible. I overeat, regret it and can't leave food on my plate. I also run a food and drink related business. And I make excuses.

In the past I have lost large amounts of weight but this time I have struggled. Peri menopause, going through an adult ADHD diagnosis, a herniated disc (twice) and running your own small business isn't always conducive to WL. I was approved last year for Mounjaro via my GP and then, after my appointment, there were changes and it was pulled. It set me back massively and then, after some big bills at work, I just didn't feel like I could justify the costs and tried, but failed, to lose weight just by dieting.

Recently I went back to my GP and they did some tests and after a few different appointments I was fortunate enough to be approved again and given a prescription last week. I had my first jab on Friday and am determined to make a difference, change my mindset and get back to enjoying life again. There is a long way to go but I am taking one day at a time.

Hopefully there will be some other July starters here and we can support each other, share tips etc.

I'm amazed at my lack of appetite so far. It is lovely to not be battling (and generally losing far too often) against desire which I know the hungers are unreasonable. It's just wonderful for a change to not be in full on battle mode. So relaxing. I'm not eating much at all and am focusing on protein and lots of greens and other healthy stuff. Got hungry late last night and a bowl of lentil soup and one small piece of toast was all I wanted. But i'm aware this 'holiday' from my cravings won't last, once I stop the WLJ one day. But it's early days right now, and I am hoping to somehow set up new good habits and hoping that I'll be able to keep the cravings down when I come off it, I dunno when ?? In a year or maybe less ? Tbh I shouldn't be on them, because I can't afford it really. But to hell with it and I'm doing it anyway (Wegovy.)

Hey!

Took my first dose on Tuesday - went to just get information and ended up taking my first dose in the nurses station!
I am 5ft6 and 12 stone 7 - I have always been overweight and I have to starve myself to even be a size 12. My weight just keeps creeping up and up - I am almost 40 and have seen other colleagues gain lots of weight due to perimenopause and just trying to prevent that happening.
I am feeling nauseous, tired and my throat is sore - but not sure if its all connected to the jab.
I tried to eat a bowl of branflakes this morning and just could finish the bowl - I ate a small bit of chicken earlier - going to try to have some chicken korma soon also.
I am drinking plenty of water and actually enjoying it.
I know in a couple of months time I am going to be so delighted that I started them!
Skinny minnies by christmas :)

Hi Clairedebear, Do you mean you got it on the NHS ? I'm the same sort of height and weight as you but I'd assumed the GP would never give it to me so I'm paying a fortune privately. I haven't got any real health issues, apart from a little bit of (osteo)arthritis but at my age of 70 that's pretty standard. So do you mind me asking, have you got health issues ? I'd love to know please. If there's any chance my GP would give me my Wegovy (or Mountjaro) that would be so excellent. And if anyone else has a comment about this, please do join in ! I assumed there was 'No Chance'..

Food noise has returned today - bit disappointed if I am honest.

All I can think of is food :(

Trying to resist and also went on a 5.5 mile walk so at least that is something!

Good luck everyone

I have also been on a long walk - and properly caught the sun so I'm all red now! Still no good noise from jabbing on Tuesday though which is good. Gone a bit over on calories at 1600, but hopefully the 7 mile walk has cancelled some of it out.

Which book are some people talking about, re using the WLI to re-set habits ? That's where my interests (and worries) are, so if you know which book it is please, can you let me know please ? Thanks

Sorry I don't know anything about a book - just trying to develop habits by myself!

Hey - I paid 195 pounds - no health issues here - I went to a weight loss clinic through my local pharmacy - nurse led.
To answer your question I believe we would have no chance getting it through the GP!

ChocolateIsBad · 04/07/2026 19:56

I paid £143 through MedExpress; think that was a first time discount.

hussherbye · 04/07/2026 20:11

@CluckYeahCluckthe book is ‘tha appetite reset’ by Dr Frederica Amati

i went to the food market today, my husband had 6 pints and I would normally pretty much match that. Instead I had two halves and 3 aperol spritz- not ideal but it was a lovely day! Have still managed to stay only 88 over the 1500 (alcohol is about half of that) chose fillet steak street food as I figured at least it was lean protein, had just a handful of the fries it came with but all the salad, then just sourdough crackers and phili with cucumber and celery for tea.

I’ve ordered some protein tortilla chips and protein babybel to try, also I’ve ordered nutrition geeks collagen glow up as I’ve read good things

LovelyLapin · 04/07/2026 23:09

I literally just had my first dose of the NG collagen. I added two level dessert spoons to some hot elderflower squash. It was ok. A big thick and glutinous but didn’t taste gross. I think I could have drunk it without the squash.

Tomorrow I’m going to add it to less water.

I got the biotin tablets too. I already have thinning hair so hoping this helps!

What is everyone using to record food macros?

LovelyLapin · 04/07/2026 23:16

One more thing…. did my first post injection exercise class. Didn’t feel any different to normal. :)

MammaGnomes · 05/07/2026 07:47

@CluckYeahCluck I went with Bolt pharmacy and have a referral code for £40 off. I think it takes it down to around £100 for MJ/ £80 for wegovy I can send it to you if you would like to have a look

@hussherbye I’ve been having the protein wraps that are quite nice.

I had my big night out last night and only had 3 alcoholic drinks. Had 1 G&T and then 2 vodka lime & sodas. Was really worried I might react straight away but felt fine. My head feels clear this morning so I think I might have gotten away with the trial run. The true test will be next Friday.

Puddleduck2013 · 05/07/2026 10:36

I was babysitting for a friend last night from 5 till midnight and observed not having a single hunger pang. Giving I’d had a modest breakfast at 10.30 this is a new experience for me.
Even right now - nothing! So weird.

Am going to have to make sure I eat something though or it won’t end well

Nowimhereandimlost · 05/07/2026 11:34

I did my first when I was hungover, which probably wasn't wise 😂

I felt quite dizzy upon waking even though I had dinner last night, so I don't think it could have been hunger, must be something else. I still feel pretty spacey, not eaten yet but I definitely still have plenty of food noise. It's just easier to ignore it. Wondering how much of this could be placebo effect

VimtoPrincess · 05/07/2026 15:40

My delivery should be here tomorrow, I was hoping to get it yesterday then I could do the injection last night and not be in work today but it has not worked out like that unfortunately. So tomorrow night it is. Hoping to see minimal side effects and lose 5 stone in a week. 😆In reality I will be happy with minimal side effects and 2 lb a week

Tulips45 · 05/07/2026 16:19

Well my MJ journey is over alrleady after one dose as I had an allergic reaction. It was mild but been told to discontinue. Gutted.

Best wishes everyone

Can I ask whatthe reaction was?

Octnec · 05/07/2026 16:54

Hi all! I’d joined this thread right at the beginning and my pen was supposed to arrive last Sunday. Long story short it got lost in transit so have only received a replacement today.

I can’t decide when to take it. Does anyone have any advice please?

I work mon-thurs if that’s of any relevance. Can’t decide whether to go for it today, tomorrow or wait til thurs night in case of any side effects?

hussherbye · 05/07/2026 17:08

@Octnecfrom what I have read definitely evening time after eating and it’s effects are strongest for the first few days, so if weekends are tricky for you it might be better to do mid/late week

AelinAG · 05/07/2026 18:58

Just done my first jab woooo!
Not expecting much from this week though, I’m taking a group of kids away with work and expecting the food options to be shite/carbs. We’re staying at a uni but doesn’t look like there are many food retailers open for me to seek better alternatives - and then away next weekend for a gig so will be drinking, but life does on.
sorry to hear @Tulips45 will you be allowed to try a different one or the tablets?

minnymoobear · 05/07/2026 20:57

Mine arrived yesterday but I was away until this morning so taking it in a bit before bed.
know it’s bad but going to finish off the tub of ice dream in freezer tonight before the

Will wright and measure in the morning, yoga booked for the morning and may go swimming too

missedtherainbow · 05/07/2026 21:23

Well that’s it! First injection done 🤞 there is no better day for me as all my days are pretty much the same. My youngest has to be tube fed every 3 hours so I’m hoping not to feel any side effects too bad 🤞
I feel excited, I know I eat rubbish out of boredom and that I’m an emotional eater too but I have things ready, book to read even if it’s just a couple of pages at a time when I’m bored, playlist ready to dance about to and get moving, fruit and veggie snacks as well as tuna and chicken as main meals for the next couple of days.
I really feel like I’m in the right mindset to make lasting changes and my little boy needs me to be fit and healthy so I can move him in and out of his wheelchair and give him his feeds and medications for as long as possible.
Hope everything is going well for you all.

bluemoonredsky · 05/07/2026 21:31

Joining just taken my first dose of MJ!

years of being overweight, no will power and a total hysterectomy and surgical menopause!

Stats:
sw 15st 6lb
gw 8st

long way to go but im on it!

Kamek · 05/07/2026 21:51

Hi all, can I join too! Just taken my first dose of MJ after months of stalling. Recent heatwave was the final straw.
SW 104kg
GW 70kg

So a lot to lose but got to start somewhere!

LovelyLapin · 06/07/2026 00:01

I have a bag of mixed nuts on my desk. Zero chance they’d have been there two days later this time last week. I just have no desire to eat them.

I didn’t eat my kiwis today (have been eating two per day with skin for fibre). Will try to remember those tomorrow.

Not counting anything, I think if I can cut out the snacks that will probably be enough.

Had a cooked breakfast (bacon, sausage, mushroom, tomato and two eggs) and chicken and mozzarella salad for dinner. Finished with a couple of spoonfuls of collagen powder before bed. Makes me feel a bit nauseous.

Not enough water today.

So tomorrow’s goals are water and kiwi!

Thanks Clairedebear, Yes I had assumed there is no chance I'd get it on the NHS, but then I saw your post and I misunderstood something you said, because you mentioned 'nurses station'.. Oh well, I guess the big expense is an extra incentive to 'get it right this time !' Good luck to you and me and all of us.
