@notgonnafail Oh dear, can see why you weigh at home now ! - but how lovely to live in rural France, lucky you .
Just checked, DH will (age-wise) qualify for the booster, available from 1 Oct according to the NHS. I may opt for a private one if the criteria isn’t widened.

notgonnafail · 31/08/2025 12:39

@ElsieJay I am lucky, though life is definitely not straightforward when everything is so far away (and for 2.5yrs I didn't even have a flushing loo or hot running water!) Basically spent 3 years wild camping in a big (cold and a bit smelly) granite tent! We're getting there though, and have at least a handful of habitable rooms now!

ElsieJay · 31/08/2025 14:37

@notgonnafail - Apologies ! As the saying goes , you make your own luck , and you have certainly done a great deal of very hard work to achieve everything you have.⭐️
Can’t imagine doing without those facilities for 2.5 years !! 😱

Kbr22 · 31/08/2025 18:04

NSV, I played golf yesterday and did not have to ask someone to retrieve the ball from the hole for me, and very easily bent down to tee the ball up without worrying I was going to end up on my backside, who knew the side effects of MJ😂
Unfortunately the lady I played with commentated on my weight loss, which to be honest is only 1stone 6lb’s I said I was eating healthily etc., to which she replied “don’t start those bloody fat jabs will you”? I replied that I was doing Thinking Slimmer which I am but said that I thought if they help people it was a good thing. She said they don’t know what drugs you are putting in your body that could be harmful though do you? She and her very ill husband then necked god knows how many Spanish double gins and they could hardly walk, hmmmm!!!!

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 31/08/2025 19:19

Groggily opening one eye to peer at the thread, I am a terrible patient. This can't have been Mounjaro, I've had a fever and chills and felt sick for days. Think I'm on the mend now so hopefully normal service will resume.

I wonder how the phrase 'those bloody fat jabs' became so ubiquitous. How did the naysayers land on the same phrase together? I can see the media pulling people's strings, but it's not exactly been difficult.

God, can you imagine if we were using Mounjaro AND refugees? Small boats and fat jabs, oh my. What a frothy, broiling mess they'd be then. Brings to mind, I don't know if you've seen this, but when the flying ants decide they're going to take off - that sort of glistening, roiling, alien mass before they fly. It always makes me feel a bit queasy. Although of course if any of our lovely May cohort have a thing against small boats or the inhabitants therein, please disregard my post - don't mean to cause a bunfight and I am still A Bit Poorly <weak cough>.

Right, what was I doing?

Seahorsesplendour · 31/08/2025 20:55

@DidILeaveTheGasOn i had a little wry smile at your post! You’re so right!!

Glad to see the lurgy hasn’t dampened your wit!!! Also glad to hear it’s finally on its way out!! It sounds horrid!!!

@Kbr22 great NSV’s!!

I had some today too! Didn’t wear my usual tent clothes but a random T-shirt I found at back of drawer from some thinner time, then someone took photo of me and wow!!! I hardly recognised myself!!

so I entered the loft (also a lot easier at 3st lighter!) and got down my box of too small clothes and about half of them fit and the other half don’t feel too far off!!

there are 2 purple jumpers in there which have never properly fitted but I love & took them on my oct holiday for about 3 years but could only wear them with a gilet over the top!

so I am determined now that by this Oct I will be sporting them on the beach on their own!!!

SutekhsEars · 01/09/2025 10:26

I feel a bit new-school-term-resolutions today. Really going to try to increase my exercise, which slipped over the summer. I had hoped that the fatigue would have eased off, but I'm still knackered. ☹️
I'm going to persist with the water & protein.
Hope you feel better soon @DidILeaveTheGasOn 💐

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 01/09/2025 11:36

I'm on the mend! Had a lovely sleep with three cats tucked in against my leg, knee and feet, very comforting. Temperature seems to be alright now, still a bit on the warm side but not bad. Haven't been able to drink alcohol for days, very strange, have potentially gone off wine which would mean I've basically gone off alcohol altogether.
That would be amazing, I would love that. I tried to drink some wine last night and ended up pouring it down the sink and going to bed.

Eating hasn't been good, I've been so queasy that all I've wanted is cheesy mash and gravy! Even got some popcorn chicken from KFC, can't remember the last time we got anything from there and it used to be a regular thing. I've been really bloated this whole time which has made me feel like I've gained loads, but just swollen tummy. Hoping it'll go down.

Hi lovelies

Checking after my latest weigh in... finally got a WHOOSH! and have lost 5lbs this week.

CW now 15st 6lbs.

Weird as I was grumbling to DH this weekend that I thought my tum was huge. But. Hooray!

Just getting the DC ready for back to school...the eldest is starting secondary tomorrow so lots of nerves here!

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 01/09/2025 13:41

Wow @SussexLass87 ! That's a great woosh! Congrats!

Hope the kids have a great first day tomorrow. My two are starting at new schools tomorrow so there's nerves here too.

@SussexLass87 sympathies! My eldest started secondary today and was dreading it. I’m in pieces here waiting to pick him up in an hour! I appear to be comfort eating crisps as well. ARGH!

SussexLass87 · 01/09/2025 14:24

Thank you @DidILeaveTheGasOn & @HKG - sending lots of positive thoughts for your DC as well for tomorrow and today!

Weekly check in - jag 15 taken and loss of 2.2lb this week- total loss 3st 1.8lb
aaaaaannnnddddd I went jeans shopping on Saturday, I hate clothes shopping but my current jeans are too big and a belt just isn’t enough, anyway I got into a size 18, I say got into, they fit perfectly, no struggles with pulling the button in to fasten, can fit two fingers in the waistband so not pinching at all. I know an 18 is still big but my usual was a 22(and was starting to feel quite tight) so this feels good, and hopefully the start of being able to enjoy shopping for clothes. I also agree that the baggy look doesn’t do you any favours, usually I would wear a baggy long top but I bought a shorter more fitted top and it looks so much better. I’m not buying too much just now as I am hoping to lose more so these are just to keep me going.
and I was unsure whether to post this or not but was out on Friday night and caught a glimpse of myself in a full length mirror and I really noticed a difference in my body shape, still got a big stomach but I think that might be one of the last bits to go, although even when I was younger and slim I had a tummy so I don’t think I’ll ever have washboard abs 🤣

This is amazing! Congratulations 🎉 You must feel brilliant after so much hard work.

I'm the same - not going mad - but buying the odd piece of clothing that's in my current size. I think we all deserve to feel good in what we're wearing today, not just in the future when we're at our goal weights.

Probably the last check-in before hols -taxi picking us up at stupid o’clock in the morning. Just back from the cattery and doing the last bits and bobs.
DH quite ruffled I’ve declined takeaway fish and chips, our usual meal before we go away. Luckily I don’t even fancy it, I unearthed some butternut squash and red pepper soup from the freezer which will do me nicely.
Jabbed this morning (one day early) so hoping for normal suppression on Week 1, second week will be will(or won’t) power and one dose left in pen for our return.

Lots of good news upthread, overcoming illness ( cat therapy ❤️!), new jeans, and even a WHOOSH ! Hope all went well with the back-to-schoolers too.
Onwards and downwards- we can do this!

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 01/09/2025 19:18

@ElsieJay That soup sounds delicious! All I want to eat is soup or mash and gravy, that's today's food in a nutshell. Went to Booths and they do a lovely Vouvray but the idea of drinking it made me feel quite sick, which is honestly so nice. The freedom from not having to have a drink. My brain is a tyrant when it comes to a couple of glasses of wine. Let it go already, get a hobby, geez.

@chergar Your post made me smile while I was reading, I'm so chuffed for you.

Apprenante · 01/09/2025 19:34

@chergar Fantastic! Enjoy wearing your jeans with pride in your achievement.

@DidILeaveTheGasOn I hope you feel completely better very soon.

@ElsieJay Here's to a good holiday and a lovely time with your family. My (skinny) husband was getting a bit funny when I refused to join in with what he wanted to eat but he's got over it now. Or at least he doesn't dare to say anything 😉

@SussexLass87 @HKG @DidILeaveTheGasOn and anyone else involved in the back to school palaver - hope everyone is happy when they get home! I've been retired for more than 10 years but still get some collywobbles when September comes round.

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 02/09/2025 09:36

I love Booths, I'm not sure why they let me in there, I always feel like a scruff and I have to watch myself to make sure I don't accidentally do crime.

Feeling a bit better again today, more kitty therapy overnight. Weighed myself this morning and I've gained 2lbs which is okay, it's just a bump in the road. My all-or-nothing brain is shrieking something wild about it being The End and I think I caught the word 'ruined' in there somewhere but it's actually easier to be sanguine and take the fluctuation as part of being alive and think, 'right, what's next' rather than give in to the internal shittalk. I've never had this before. Maybe I'm becoming zen and will soon take up yoga? (I'll never take up yoga, I would fart too much.)

notgonnafail · 02/09/2025 09:52

Have been feeling a little frustrated recently. Despite brief forays below 107kg, they have been short-lived and weight has been up and down but never below 107kg again since. My monthly check-this morning where I do a full stats analysis started off poorly with another gain (though could be my scales are crap (see my post the other day!) new ones are arriving today!)

But my mood picked up after I started to look at overall changes since starting - and shows how important the NS stuff really is.

My fasting blood sugar on the Sunday before I went on MJ was 6.7, though was back down at 5.9 the day started. It is now 5.2.

My uric acid level has gone down from 434 to 286.

My blood pressure (never had 'high BP' as tend towards lower BP, but it had been creeping up) was 111/77 and is now 103/73.

My resting HR was 71, and is now 62

I have lost 7cms from my bust; 6.5cms from my waist; 6cm from my hips; 2.1cms from my neck; 8cms from my Lthigh; 6.2cms from my Rthigh; 5.7cms from my Lankle (I had a lot of swelling there from constant subluxing thanks to hypermobility); and 3cms from my right one.

I may have 'only' lost 7.8kg/17.2lbs since starting on 21st May, a slow and rather measly loss in comparison with many of you lovely folk here, but in context, it really isn't the most important aspect of any of this for me - the markers above are. They tell me that the inflammation in my body is going down, that my body is hopefully starting to heal just a little bit after decades of disability from hEDS, MCAS, dysautonomia, autoimmune issues, being hypothyroid, dieting since I was 12 that has screwed my metabolism so royally and so much more!

I am so proud of all of you, losing all the weight and getting into new clothes in sizes you could hardly imagine seeing again without MJ and I am so grateful for our little group here, and the MJ itself for how much it is affecting all our lives for the better (even if that is a bit slower than some might want!)

So, onwards and downwards everyone, totes protes and whatever the fibre one was!!

FlorenceNightshade · 02/09/2025 11:31

Well no weekly check in for me today as I have run out of insulin syringes! I have another pen I could use but don’t want to have two open at once! I’ve been using 3.75 out of a 5mg pen and looks like there may be at least two doses left in it so seemed silly to start another one.

I tried a hard twist last week when I ran out of clicks and it didn’t work so used a syringe. Today I tried another firm twist and the little black disk at the top of the plunger has broken off and is floating about in the bottom of the pen! Definite fail 🙈

I will have to wait until tomorrow for Jab 17! Well done on the progress this week everyone

@notgonnafail what scales are you buying? I think I need some new ones. Mine are over 30 years old and something fell off the underneath a few weeks ago when I stood on them. Might be coincidence, but the readings have been very up and down - even if I get straight back on them the reading can be 2lbs different. And my weight losses have been strange these last few weeks. It will be interesting to see whether the super duper scales at the diabetes prevention clinic show the same loss for the past month as mine have.

DidILeaveTheGasOn · 02/09/2025 12:59

@notgonnafail I loved your post, the health improvements are brilliant. That's the underlying reason for me, just being able to walk my son to school this morning and not feel like death was incredible, I honestly felt I was in someone else's body.

Loving also the escalating criminality from our very own @FlorenceNightshade, keep us updated, let us know if you need a number for your 1 phonecall 😜

Need to wean myself off my sudden obsession with mash and gravy. I can't abide the idea of salad at the moment. I'm wondering about... Fish soup? Then I can use a Freja fish broth as a base which has 21g protein for 500ml, chuck in some prawns, haddock, other fish names that are elusive right now but will come for me at 3 in the morning, maybe some ramen and a soft boiled egg if at lunchtime... Mmm. Bye salad, it's soup time...

notgonnafail · 02/09/2025 13:00

@Gingercar I've ordered a set of Renpho scales to use with their app (that I do like), the rechargeable ones. They arrived today, look good. Will let you know how I find them once I get them set up and use them in the morning!

Been having similar issues with my scales, get on them one weight, ten seconds later I'm half to a kilo more! I've changed batteries and they still seem to be really inconsistent and they weren't in the past, so new ones it is.
