@TryingToHelpBut we knew what you meant! Can you recommend a xylitol gum?

TryingToHelpBut · 22/01/2025 22:03

Just any of the granulated xylitol (on the sweetner section) on the shelves at Sainsbury's for me. It's amazing that it tastes just like sugar - feels very wrong) you just have a pinch about 5 times a day- mostly after meals and after brushing your teeth. It rebalances the mouth after foods. Cheap and easy. Hygienist said to carry on and see what it's like in 3 more months. Wonder if it's the combo of the two?

With xylitol - be aware it's highly toxic to dogs, causes liver damage, so be careful with it in the house if you're a dog owner.

CiderJabs · 23/01/2025 09:21

@KrankyKumquat I came here to say exactly this. I stopped buying as I was panicking some could fall on the floor and the dog would lick it. Etythrol is a good alternative for dog owners!

CiderJabs · 23/01/2025 09:22
  • erythritol!

Thank you, yes. Peanut butter is a big issue as often given to dogs as a treat/to hide tablets but several brands have xylitol in them. Also sugar free gum, sweets, etc...

Reporting in on my experiences after taking a month's break from MJ in order to reset. I am now experiencing suppression on 2.5mg and have lost the weight I'd put on at Christmas.

I am now 10st 11 (and with an overweight BMI) which is where I sat in late Sept. I have 20 pounds to lose to hit a healthy BMI (I am only 5ft 1).

I allowed myself to take a break last year from thinking about food having being plagued for decades by my insatiable appetite. This year, I am focusing more on eating well (found a great book called the Midlife Kitchen - delicious stuff) and on strength as my break made me aware that I go backwards far too easily💪

Planning a beach holiday in Sept and I am going to be wearing a bikini and loving it 😁

Wonkypictureframe · 23/01/2025 12:00

@Thebaldprimadonna interesting, thank you. And good luck with those last pounds!

NextPrimeMinister · 23/01/2025 12:31

@Thebaldprimadonna Great to hear from you and that your plan is working. I hadn't realised what a shorty you are, at 5 1 you're ideal range is going to be a low weight. grrr.

I love having a goal too - I find it very beneficial :)

Onwards a 'down' wards!

KrankyKumquat · 23/01/2025 12:34

@Thebaldprimadonna
Really good to hear you still got suppression on 2.5 after a month off. Gives us hope 1 month on, 1 month off might actually be a longer term option.

Gonna check out that cookbook - I'm so bored with food!

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 23/01/2025 12:59

Found the old photos of me pre MJ that my mum took when I visited her at Christmas 2023. Jesus Christ how did I not realise I was that fat? I'm quite shocked, especially as I found one from the year before where I looked even bigger.

I've included a current photo from the manky Matalan changing rooms this week. I'm only just inside a healthy bmi and I think I probably reduced my dose too soon as I really should have lost more before tapering down. I'm at risk of going into the overweight category with a few bad eating days! I'm not losing on the current dose of around 6.5mg.

It's a really good, non-faddy book. I got it from the library but I've now ordered my own copy.

Smallsalt · 23/01/2025 15:49

Non scale victory. Bought my 16 year old jeans at Christmas. Size 6 black baggys from New Look. Today she declared them too long and has given them to me. They fit nicely, indeed dare I say, a tad loose in the waist and bum!

Today is exactly10 months since I started. If you had told me last Jan 23rd that I would be in loose size 6 I would have laughed in you face.

Photos last march and this week, including said jeans!

@PissedOffNeighbour22 wow that's an amazing difference!

You definitely don't look currently like you're approaching overweight. Must be the big boobs adding pounds

Femeia · 23/01/2025 19:54

You look great @PissedOffNeighbour22! I'm the same on the "how did I not realise". I mean I knew I was overweight but I thought I carried it well. No way Jose!

My insulin needles from Amazon have arrived. Does anyone have a link to a foolproof way of getting out and injecting the bonus dose? I've not been able to find anything and am a bit paranoid of doing the wrong thing!

Good news on the Bolt front - they accepted my latest photos and have sent my next pens. I've got a little bit of a stockpile and once I've gone the next 6 months (before the next photo would be due) I should be very much at target and definitely maintaining (jolly well hope so)

Femeia · 23/01/2025 19:57

@Smallsalt amazing NSV!!!! Wow!
Mine this week is that I fit into size 12 skinny jeans and a M in jumper sizes. Bought a belt in an S from Primark. Previously I was a 20 in jeans, the largest jumper size possible and an L in belts.Really weird to go into a shop and not be looking for the biggest size.

Wipe the red dot on the end of the pen as usual with antiseptic wipe. Unwrap your syringe and insert the needle in through the red dot. Draw back the syringe plunger to extract the liquid.
A full dose of any pen is 0.6ml. If you have a 1ml syringe the mark you need to get to will probably show as 60.
Then stick the needle in your chosen site (I've always done stomach) and push in the end to inject the liquid.
It's much easier than I thought it would be.
Good luck.

Yes and every pound shows on my smallish frame. I have never been told that I carry extra weight well! 😬

Femeia · 23/01/2025 21:47

Thanks @Snozzlemaid!

Smallsalt · 23/01/2025 22:36

So I live in a remote coastal area right in the middle of the big storm that's coming in. We are prone to losing power. Please send good vibes as I have a fridge full of back up pens😳

imnottoofussed · 23/01/2025 22:55

Maybe wrap them up in some frozen stuff to keep them colder for longer if the power goes out

AgathaMystery · 23/01/2025 23:08

They will be fine for a few days. Just pop them right at the back of the fridge and insulate them in some bubble wrap.

MrsNessaSmithy · 24/01/2025 08:32

Checking in as I need to give myself a kick up the backside.

I started in May and lost 50 lb with about 14lb left to get to goal.
I got married and had an amazing honeymoon away and skipped a couple of doses then restarted at 2.5. I am ashamed to say put on 17lb over 6 weeks.

Immediately dropped 5lb and now need to refocus to get to my goal. I have not weighed in for a couple of weeks but am feeling better already.

It feels like that it is harder to be motivated as I am a ‘normal’ size now. I am a 14 but am a shortie. My BMI is still 27 so I know I need to keep going to get to my final goal.

Has anyone had a break and found it hard to get re focused ? I never went above about 9mg dose previously and now am up to 8mg and plan to increase very slowly after having bad side effects from 10mg previously.

Flapearedknave · 24/01/2025 15:47

A word of warning to you all!

I have been fine with alcohol up until last night/today!

Had a couple of glasses of red wine and I feel like I've had 12 bottles of vodka!

I'm guessing if must be the mj that is causing this, as I usually drink a lot more when with family and I'm usually fine!

So, be careful, if you're fine with alcohol now,you may not be tomorrow 😭😭😭

ThirdStorm · 24/01/2025 16:43

@Flapearedknave I've generally been a bit off alcohol since MJ but when I have drunk anything more than a glass its just too much and doesn't agree with me.
