Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@AgathaMystery

Wish they were being so quick with mine, ordered 2 days ago and still not approved. I don't need it yet but do like to know the order is all fine.

lurkylurk · 30/05/2024 11:07

@Teddd

It's because they can last 30 days out of the fridge (whether used or not), so if you're not using it right away it needs to be in the fridge.

Once you've started using it you will be using it up within 30 days so doesn't need to keep being refrigerated. If you've ordered it a couple of weeks in advance you won't use it up before the 30 days it's ok to be out of the fridge.

ThirdStorm · 30/05/2024 08:18

@cerialkiller Bit of a nightmare when you can't control what you eat, but equally it could be rude to say something. Fingers crossed its meat and veg!

My DH has just confirmed she's a mediocre cook. I've had (supermarket) curry and rice there and pizza and chips. I'm not hopeful.

Early weigh in before the stodge. 1 pound off. Happy with that. Ate ice-cream and had a generally hungry week.

Hi all. I am a newbie and an oldie at once - was 15 stone 9 and lost 3 stone on oxempic last year. Had a bit of a hiatus and restarted recently with Mounjaro - on the first week of 5mg. 2.5mg didn't really kick in but I seem to have my dieting head in order now and am off and running. Trying to get a last 1.5-2 stone off to get into healthy range.

Came on the recommend an iPhone app, Happy Scale. It encourages one to weigh daily and enter it in the app which smooths the data (you'll want to set all the tracking to their smoothing result, not actual). I found it very helpful to get round the swings back and forth in weight and once it has been populated with a few week's data it really seems to produce sensible, smoothed graphs.

Moanranger · 30/05/2024 11:30

@AgathaMystery I think we imagine that there are a group of chemists in a shop. They get an order, it is approved, then they walk to their fridge, get the dose, label it, add pens, wrap & pop in the post.
I don’t think so!
we are probably dealing with a call centre, they get your query, press a button & a warehouse/fulfilment centre initiates the process in a very strict, standardised way. E.g. immediate posting of a certain dose, etc. These systems are so strict that it appears to be IMPOSSIBLE for any adjustment.
I get mine thru Health Express. Every time they send an order, I get another sharps bin. These I do not need. I have emailed to request that they not do that. I get a standardised, one shoe fits all email response, and another sharps bin! I have tried phoning, but no joy.
The downside of on line chemists!

rainbowsandinfinitesparkles · 30/05/2024 11:38

Looks like Zava might be the cheapest for the lower doses now ...

Have a look at Oxford Pharmacy. They had some codes when I looked earlier in the week and they also sent me a 10% off when I left my basket.

Eyesofmistyblue · 30/05/2024 11:54

@NCfor24 thanks for your reply to me on previous thread re daily weighing and hormonal gain. I weighed more often and happy to report the extra few pounds did come off overnight and I’m back down under my current line and well under my target line 😀

Hey there,

I have been following this thread with great interest and have now started my Mounjaro journey! I took my first dose last night of the 2.5mg pen.

I feel extremely achey in my arms and legs very similar to restless leg feeling but a bit painful. Is this normal?

lurkylurk · 30/05/2024 12:09

@87SPD

Yes, I had this the first couple of injections, very achey legs. Did go away and don't seem to get it now.

Thebaldprimadonna · 30/05/2024 12:22

Thanks for the new thread @FlappyFish 😀

I am suffering after my second 10mg jab. Feeling a bit sick all the time. On the plus side, I have the energy boost back that I experienced when I started on MJ. Hopefully, my stomach will settle down soon.

Foxlover46 · 30/05/2024 12:36

@3wDavid ah I hope you are feeling better now :) that sounds great that you're able to eat still , I'm looking forward to feeling like I don't want too.
Not long till Saturday , look forward to you having a happy weigh in :)

Hi. I had my first dose last night too and my arms are achy today as well.
I thought I was being ridiculous imagining this and thought there couldn't be a link but maybe it is a thing then.
The only other thing I've noticed today is a horrid taste on my mouth today. I feel like I have terrible smelling breath 🤢 so good job I work at home. Have had a couple of sugar free polos to try to get rid of taste.

Investinmyself · 30/05/2024 12:39

Can’t believe how fast moving these threads are. I’m about to take my third dose of 7.5mg. Lost 19 lb I think.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 30/05/2024 12:39

@ThirdStorm - I know exactly how you feel. I have actually used my weights at home every day this week for an arm routine. Yet I don't have arms like Michelle Obama yet. This is very inconsiderate and is clearly part of a world conspiracy!

hoola23 · 30/05/2024 12:40

I've literally been tracking the Royal Mail delivery for two days and now it's here I'm really anxious! Dreading side effects and I think that's why. Planning on taking my first shot this evening if I find the courage. Did anyone else feel like this? Do I just need to bite the bullet?!

I'm doing weights too! I think my strength is starting to improve but yes why doesn't it happen overnight! ;)

Just imagine if you'd happened to have only weighed on those 'heavier' days! So demoralising and this is the kind of thing that would happen to me at Weight Watchers and Slimming World and trigger a binge when I got home!!

Yes! This was me yesterday. So excited to arrived then terrified to actually do it.
I finally convinced myself to go for it at 10pm last night. It's not cheap so told myself to get on with it.
It was straightforward to do and I feel fine so far today.
Everyone is so supportive on here too. It's so good to have others to discuss this with.

Snozzlemaid · 30/05/2024 12:52

@SlenderRations Thanks for the Happy Scale recommendation. Just downloaded it and looks great.

PugLover2024 · 30/05/2024 12:58

Found a new med express code: TOPUPTEN for 10% off. Not sure whether to order now or wait and see if a better one pops up 😬

AgathaMystery · 30/05/2024 13:00

lurkylurk · 30/05/2024 10:55

@AgathaMystery , what's your address I'll go get them! 😂😂😂

Edited

@lurkylurk it might come to it! My mum & her partner are cat sitting for us & he’s a GP & honestly I don’t want to engage in any discussion with anyone about it (the meds). They are both lovely but I don’t want to discuss it with anyone you know?

sweetpickle2 · 30/05/2024 13:11

Having some rotten side effects this week- nausea whenever I eat anything, really hot body temperature, feel very dizzy. Hoping it doesn't last much longer!

aliciagardner · 30/05/2024 13:14

.

hoola23 · 30/05/2024 13:19

@Snozzlemaid glad it's not just me! Defo got some feelings of what if this fails too because I've literally tried everything now! I'm gonna take it when my LO goes to bed and just hope for the best!!
