Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I'm hunting too, have been for hours!
Please don't apologise though - it's not your fault! Thank you for trying!😍
I think it may have worked for some repeat orders, but not for me.
I'm surprised at MedExpress, they must realise the way to keep customers is to keep the price competitive.....I'm already looking at switching to Pharmacy2U who have a code which makes it much cheaper than MedExpress....I'm sure others will follow!

do you know what is the price for 7.5mg pen at Pharmacy2U and is there some discount codes? I never know how to check it without filing all the details? My as well switch as medexpress has no codes atm 😕

ThirdStorm · 30/05/2024 08:22

So I'm coming up to 5 weeks and 6th dose tomorrow and I've stalled. I've consistently lost some really good weight and inches so I'm delighted but this week absolutely nothing. I'm fine on calories although protein a little low on some days. No idea how to kick start because although I'm keto I've gone easy on the fats because that make me ill in the first few weeks. I know I need to be patient and this can be normal after significant weightloss but I desperately want to keep making progress!! I'm not hungry but I think thats keto rather than meds because I found myself picking (possibly out of boredom and lack of progress) last night and I didn't feel full. I really hope this passes as I don't know what to do with myself!

Checking in on this thread. Thanks @FlappyFish for the new one ☺️

Got 3 more full days of hol left then return on Sunday. I'm ready to go home now! Just want to get back to my diet and back to my next dose! I don't especially feel hungry and don't feel like I have been eating loads, but I feel like I look like I have gained weight. So might take me a few weeks to get back to where I was once back.

Also have been bitten so many times by mosquitoes it's driving me barmy being so itchy.

Have a great day all 😊

I fly back tomorrow. Doing my injection as soon as I arrive home and getting back into all the salads chicken and fish I can manage. Will give myself a day to let any salt, carbs, poop retention to settle down before assessing how much if anything I gained in holiday.

PugLover2024 · 30/05/2024 08:29

Hi everyone, just checking in really. Week 9 and I’ve lost 18.4lbs, down from 180lbs to 161.6 so losing around 2lb a week. Is that good progress? Gutted as I had the Medexpress discount code in my basket yesterday, was going to order today as it’s payday and the code is now new customers only 😅I’ve emailed them to see if they can give me another code, fingers crossed!

lurkylurk · 30/05/2024 08:39

@ObsidianTree

Get an insect repellent that is 20% Picaridin (also called Icaridin or Saltidin). It’s natural, unlike Deet, won’t melt your glasses unlike Deet and really works. I get Skeeter syndrome which is a bad allergic reaction to mosquito bites so I really need to make sure I don’t get them and it’s the only thing that really works.

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 30/05/2024 08:46

For those feeling disheartened by a blip up or by staying the same, don't be. Weight loss is never linear. This isn't a magic bullet - we still need to work for it. More importantly, women's bodies are complex and we've just added something new to it so it will take a while for our body's to adjust.
I am on week 6 now. Weeks 1 - 4 were 2.5, then I did the bonus dose which was about 3 and then I did 3.75 on Monday. Week 1 I lost 2lbs, week 2 I lost a lb but three days later I lost a further 2lbs... except that I bounced up again and it was another 2 weeks before I had lost those 2lbs again. Since then, I have lost 2 more.
I am averaging a pound a week. Others who have lost significant amounts of weight on this and in a short time frame (I know @FlappyFish won't mind me referencing her) have had periods when they have stalled.
What is different for me this time is that the food noise has gone and I have more faith in it working, even if it might take twice (or even three times) as long as I had hoped after the first week.

ThirdStorm · 30/05/2024 08:56

@ObsidianTree I use Mosquito Milk to prevent bites, absolutely brilliant stuff.

ThirdStorm · 30/05/2024 08:57

@thehousewiththesagegreensofa Of course you are right (and I have previous experience on past diets) but I'm being totally irrational and impatient!! I ate a salad yesterday, why am I not thin today! ;)

BlackFriYay · 30/05/2024 09:09

Thanks for the new thread Flappy!

Gutted to read that MedExpress have restricted the pharm20 (something) code. I was relying on that to get my first 10mg when my account unlocked in a few days. I plan to email them and ask them if they'll honour it or I'm moving to The Family Chemist, and they can sod off 😑

Choux · 30/05/2024 09:17

I just checked my emails to see if I had been sent any MedExpress codes. I haven't but I did find a survey which I filled in and added comments related to price and discount codes. If everyone else here sends in similar feedback maybe they will sort it out.

ARGH I need to tell someone before I explode!
I've lost a stone! In my first 3 weeks!
Well. Official weigh day was yesterday but I was hovering on 12lb and part of me just knew if I weighed today it'd be better. Nobody in real life knows apart from my partner who although is happy for me, is definitely getting a little sick of hearing about weight and mounjaro as it's all I talk about these days 😂😏
I'm honestly so happy as I genuinely thought I was a lost cause with so many failed sw/keto/cc attempts under my belt.
And thankyou to all of you guys on here too because you've all unknowingly kept me going with tips/recommendations etc but just by being there and reading your stories and thoughts etc it has really helped.
I decided now was the time to lose weight as (aside from my health obviously as that was a huge factor) I'm headed to Wembley in August for Taylor Swift and there's no way I'd have coped with 90k other people around me, looking and feeling how I did in the middle of summer and now ive got that first stone off... My target of 2-2.5 seems possible!

Abigailandthefoxes · 30/05/2024 09:26

@FastGoose that is amazing you sound thrilled!

Hi Sabblue - I'm not sure exactly what the Pharmacy2U discount is on the 7.5mg dose, I only checked for the lower doses.
The code is VLS6HH which will give you a discount - it only lasts until tomorrow.
Then you can compare it to the cost of MedExpress- I'm sure it will be cheaper than what MedExpress are charging currently.

Snozzlemaid · 30/05/2024 09:50

Amazing!
I'm hoping to follow in your footsteps; injected for the first time yesterday.
It's inspirational stories like this that have persuaded me I should try this too.
I'm getting really excited at the thought of having to buy new clothes in a size that doesn't start with a 2.

lurkylurk · 30/05/2024 09:55

@FastGoose

That's great news, well done! My daughter will be at that concert too!

Abigailandthefoxes · 30/05/2024 10:14

Dose 4 today
SW:13 stone ten
CW:13 stone 1

I am amazed at that.

Mencia · 30/05/2024 10:15

20 pounds gone and another 20 to go based on the goal I set up in Nutracheck.
In nearly 7 weeks.
NSV: still wearing the same blazer but arms not tight anymore. Last year I bought Ted baker skinny jeans in a 34 (have been wearing them) a then I saw then really cheap in brand alley and also bought size 32 (did not fit). Well, I’m wearing them for the first time today.
NSV: thanks to Nutracheck I’ve realised I don’t eat too much, I used to eat too many things that are very caloric but I do not really enjoy them that much. Feels good in the sense of planning for the post MJ target (keeping the extra kg off me).

FastGoose · 30/05/2024 10:17

@lurkylurk thankyou! I'm sure she will have a great time, I think I'm more excited than my kids! I've got my sequin outfit all ready to go haha

@Snozzlemaid welcome to the mj club! Honestly one of the best decisions I've made doing this and you're in great hands on this thread as everyones so lovely - and in the same boat. Good luck for your journey and I look forward to hearing about your successes!

lurkylurk · 30/05/2024 10:24

@Snozzlemaid

It depends on the make of needles, the ones MedExpress send don't have the inner cap, a lot of others do, nothing to worry about.

@FlappyFish thanks for the new thread!!

im having a logistical nightmare with MedExpress. I ordered a 7.5mg to arrive w/c 3/6/24 - had it all agreed - and they’ve sent the pen out. I’m on holiday!! I emailed them to say m in a really remote location (the ocean) and cannot simply ring anyone to sort this out. They said sorry, and have sent another one! So I’ve now got two pens in my porch. Gods sake. What a waste of medication.

Carelesswispalover · 30/05/2024 10:46

Hi everyone, I haven't been around since I took my first jab, apologies I haven't updated, life has been hectic.
I'm 5"10 and was 15 st 10 when I started, I took my week 4 dose yesterday and weighed in this morning at 14"11 so I nearly have a stone off which is absolutely crazy!! Have also dropped a dress size (now a 16!!)

Moving up to the 5mg dose next week and I am nervous about it, but hopefully I can get another half a stone off before I head on holiday at the end of June!

Mounjaro has given me a sense of freedom I've never had before, the removal of food noise is a game changer!!

lurkylurk · 30/05/2024 10:55

@AgathaMystery , what's your address I'll go get them! 😂😂😂

I don’t understand the guidance? Why is it ok to keep out of the fridge once you’ve used it but not before? I’ve never kept mine in the fridge. It arrived on a Friday and I took the first dose on a Sunday.
