Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I’m away for a lovely weekend abroad tomorrow. The local food is seafood, so nothing too bad. Last year I went to Greece for a week and ate so much fish and salad I think my diet was its healthiest ever. But normally I’d get sunk into the wine. I’m still basically uninterested in alcohol so I wonder if mentally I will still want it ‘because I’m on holiday’? I’ve only drunk on big social occasions since I started MJ.

I went on holiday on my first week of starting MJ and didn’t have a drop of alcohol. Believe me this is unheard of for me! I just didn’t fancy it. And crucially I didn’t enjoy the holiday any less because I didn’t drink. In fact it was nice to walk up refreshed every morning instead of groggy.

Wonkypictureframe · 06/06/2024 09:41

It’s also perfectly normal to go on holiday and put on a bit of weight! Most people do. We all have to get used to the idea of being able to lose it again afterwards rather than see it as just another step to getting bigger.

I usually eat and drink plenty when on holiday but also do a lot more physical activity than when at home, lots of walking, hours of swimming and snorkelling every day, some kayaking etc. so I usually get away with only a pound or two. I'm always wishing I lived somewhere warm by the sea as I'd happily get a lot more exercise without even noticing! I love how vibrant my body feels after a week or two of all that movement and vitamin D and minerals from seawater (they get absorbed through your skin, I'm not gulping it down!)

However, it is normal to have times that are a bit more indulgent (even our ancestors had feasting times of year!) and the thing with those is usually just to get it off quickly afterwards and it doesn't stick around.

Morning all… a scale victory this morning, I’m down a kilo this week & my BMI is now 31.7. Feels unreal.

And a NSV… went round to my friend’s last night, who was the first person to notice my weight loss last month and he said he could really, really tell, which was nice. Then he said ‘right. What is it?? Ozempic? So I told him MJ and he was fascinated. I never expect judgement from him and never get it, just total support. Anyway, it was nice to chat GLP-1 science for a bit.

My next mini goal is a party in 2 weeks. I’d like to be about 77kg for that.

That’s fab! I have lost just over a stone now but no one has noticed, I have a lot to lose though so using the toilet paper analogy I’m still a full roll 😂 I think it will need to be a couple of stone before you can see anything. I think my face is slightly less puffy but other than than not much movement on the tape measure or clothes

I wish everyone could be so non judgmental!

Med express now have 12.5mg, as do family chemist and Asda

ObsidianTree · 06/06/2024 19:00

It's weird that Asda have stock but Zava are not showing stock of 12.5mg! When they basically supply for Asda!

KeepingUndercover · 06/06/2024 20:05

Zava are luring everyone in with discount codes and then they'll reveal their 12.5mg is more expensive than anyone else's!

Or maybe their website person is on holiday.

So far zava seem to be one of the cheapest at £204 for 12.5mg. Not sure if others are cheaper. Maybe this was their plan. Put their prices down and offer referral discounts when people are close to the higher expensive doses. So people switch to get the discount and end up staying with Zava!

ObsidianTree · 06/06/2024 20:08

Where as med express plan was to give voucher codes to get everyone to start with them, then take them away when the doses get expensive so they get more money if people can't be bothered to move and stay with them!

CiderJabs · 06/06/2024 20:13

It's crazy how they are all making promises and one way or another going back on themselves 😤

hoola23 · 06/06/2024 20:21

I'm due to have my second dose tonight but days 2&3 were really rough with exhaustion and I don't want to feel like that on the weekend. Is it ok to delay my dose until maybe Friday or sat evening? Has anyone done this and been ok? Thanks!

CiderJabs · 06/06/2024 20:29

You can delay it. You may feel hungrier though so be prepared

You can delay it. If you do it tomorrow evening, that's just a day late

PonyPatter44 · 06/06/2024 20:52

I was 103kg this morning, and I've just done my first 7.5mg injection. The food noise hasn't crept back at all, its really bizarre. I've been a chronic over-eater since I was 11, I've never NOT had that noise in my head. It's suddenly gone, and I can only assume this is how normal eaters feel all the time.

I'm going on holiday with my uni friends in 5 weeks time. These people have known me as a fatty for 30+ years, and I want to be nearer 90kg than 100kg when we get together. I'm really hoping the kitchen roll will start to unravel a bit by then!

SW 118kg
CW 103kg
GW 75kg (first goal).

hoola23 · 06/06/2024 21:16

@ObsidianTree thank you! Felt slightly hungrier today but still only managed 1000 ish cals

KeepingUndercover · 06/06/2024 22:00

@PonyPatter44 you've a very similar start and current weight to me, although maybe faster, that's kind of cool. Well done on your progress, fingers crossed for that holiday result!

KeepingUndercover · 06/06/2024 22:01

@hoola23 definitely fine to delay a day. I've done it a few times for various reasons.
