Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Hi all

Just want some advice. Been on 2.5 for 3 weeks and it's working, no nasty side effects and I'm eating alot less. I definitely should be eating more but I'm just not fussed 😊

So was thinking about extending my next 2 doses (using the extra dose) by an extra day so taking it every 8days rather than 7. And then ordering 5mg pen but only giving 2.5 with the option to go up if needed.

My reasoning is I don't want to eat any less, it's working as is and I want to use the medication as a tool rather than become dependent. Also don't want to reorder 2.5mg as if do need to go up I'll need more and obviously it's not cheap!

Is this an ok plan or am I missing something? TIA

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 06/06/2024 08:36

@AgathaMystery you are so right about the shame. There is also the shame in taking medication from those that 'really' need it. I qualify for weight loss surgery on the NHS, why am I not seen as needing it too?

Yup. Even though we know the NHS isn’t yet ordering these drugs in vast quantities, you can bet the moment it does, we will all be blamed for supply chain issues.

I did similar but found by week 5 I was titrating up. By week 10 I was on 5mg. I kept at 7 days between jabs due to the half life of the drug. You want a consistent amount due to the cumulative effect.

@AgathaMystery I want to nominate you for 'Most Insightful and Sensible Poster' of Thread 11!

So often when I read something that I think is so true or so useful on this thread it has been posted by you. Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us as we realise finally winning the struggle with our bodies doesn't mean we automatically solve the struggle with our minds. That last post is a case in point. Thanks!

Haha thanks friend.

Shall we all get T shirts printed that say ‘I have internalised shame from being fat and not being able to loose weight by moving less and eating more but now I take a GPL-1 and feel awesome and ashamed of myself all at once and guys, it’s a whole vibe’

?? maybe in pink?

Stickthatupyourdojo · 06/06/2024 09:05

@ObsidianTree wooop that's great news on your post holiday weigh ins!

@AgathaMystery love this! "on Wednesdays we wear pink t shirts that..."

I'm still waiting (weighting? Grin) for medexpress to come to their bloody senses and throw a bone. I've got my next pen lined up but I want to move up to 10mg and have some left for when I hit 25 bmi. The cost of the higher doses seems so much more extravagant than the lower with a discount code. I really can't be bothered to change supplier again and now I'm near goal I'm not sure they'll have me anyway.

We might have fitted all that on our old T shirts but not our new slimline ones!

@AgathaMystery I would absolutely have that T-shirt in pink. Probably worn inside out for the shame of it.

I'm up at stupid o clock again. Jetlag is still kicking me in the ass!

I am ready to confess my weight gain from holiday!

So Monday morning I decided to brave the scales after returning from my holiday(Sunday late night). I was planning to wait a day or two so I wouldn't get too much of a shock, but decided to just weigh to hold myself accountable.
I weighed 14st 8lbs 😱. I was 13st 13lbs the day I left. Now I knew a lot of this was probably water weight but did feel it was mostly my fault from eating /drinking too much on holiday so decided it was mostly fat.

Since then I have been weighing daily.
Tuesday I lost 3lbs I was 14st 5lbs
Wednesday I lose 2lbs I was 14st 3lbs

Weighed myself this morning and I am
14st 1lb! So 2lbs from my start weight in less than a week! I guess most of the gain must have been water. I am surprised how quickly the weight has come off again. I thought it would take at least a few weeks. Maybe it still will and I will now stall for the rest of the week, but I am happy how fast it's gone back down again.

From being on here and seeing others that have come back from holiday and have barely gained or actually lost, I felt like a big failure! So wanted to come on here and share this for those that might go on holiday in future and worry about gaining etc. So even if you do gain, it is probably mostly water weight and will come off pretty quickly anyway.

Have a good Thursday all 😊

A very similar story to my weekend in Genoa, I put on 10lb in 4 days! Took me two weeks to lose it, but now I'm having a whoosh and losing more than I have previously.

So you may not stall! But it's good to know we can enjoy ourselves and get back on it, and continue to lose. I'm sure in the past we'd have both said fuck it, and just carried on gaining!

ObsidianTree · 06/06/2024 09:22

thehousewiththesagegreensofa · 06/06/2024 08:28

@ObsidianTree you must delighted to have dropped down again so soon. That's an amazing result for a long holiday and in a country where the food is so delicious
@FlappyFish you have done so well and are a pioneer for so many of us on here. Your reflections will be of benefit to all of us I am sure
Has anyone seen the poster who had to go into hospital intermittently recently? I remember her saying she was about to reduce her morphine dose again which was amazing but was struggling with some other side effects

It was @MelissaLouRocks

@MelissaLouRocks hope you're ok

FlappyFish · 06/06/2024 09:24

@ObsidianTree i used to bloat insanely when I flew a lot for work. Glad you’ve faced the scales - numbers can be scary. Also glad you’re seeing the readjustment back. I glad hand you the reins to the thread back.

@Stickthatupyourdojo I'm holding out for a code too. My last pen was ordered 16th May, so hopefully with people changing suppliers and other sites being more competitive they might stick a code out. It's only a saving of about £15 quid at other places, so I'm inclined to just take the hit and order from Med Ex and not have the hassle of changing. It will hopefully be my last pen, and it's more of an emergency one if I start gaining at some point in the next year and I need a reset.

Wonkypictureframe · 06/06/2024 09:41

It’s also perfectly normal to go on holiday and put on a bit of weight! Most people do. We all have to get used to the idea of being able to lose it again afterwards rather than see it as just another step to getting bigger.

Official weigh in and jab day for me today.
Last official weigh in (as opposed to my daily/every other day check in weigh) was 23rd May (2 weeks ago), and I was 11.4.2

SW:12.6.6
CW: 11.1.4
GW: 10.0.0

So 2.8lb down in two weeks, which included a 10 day holiday, so pleased with that. And surprised 😀Although it was a driving holiday, so perhaps a little drier than a normal holiday would have been. No flying, which may have helped too, as that seems to create water weight for some.

I'm using this converter tool to convert stones/pounds to kilos, might be useful for others too.

It takes whatever you're using (kgs/lbs/stone) and gives the equivalent.
