Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@hoola23 I was the same yesterday when my package arrived. I have been so upbeat and positive about taking it for weeks now but really doubted myself last night. In the end I just took it around 9pm. Managed to sleep fine but have woke feeling ‘off’ headache, achey legs and arms etc nothing drastic. The one amazing thing is my lack of appetite already! Never believed that would kick in so quickly but it certainly has with me. Good luck and let’s keep posting our journey this seems such a supportive thread 🥰

Choux · 30/05/2024 08:22

I fly back tomorrow. Doing my injection as soon as I arrive home and getting back into all the salads chicken and fish I can manage. Will give myself a day to let any salt, carbs, poop retention to settle down before assessing how much if anything I gained in holiday.

Yes I plan to inject as soon as I get in the door 🤣

I will also give my body and day or two to adjust before weighing. I know after the flight I will have water retention anyway, so might as well wait for things to settle before facing the scales!

@Teddd

It's because they can last 30 days out of the fridge (whether used or not), so if you're not using it right away it needs to be in the fridge.

Once you've started using it you will be using it up within 30 days so doesn't need to keep being refrigerated. If you've ordered it a couple of weeks in advance you won't use it up before the 30 days it's ok to be out of the fridge.

This makes sense. Thank you!

Looks like Zava might be the cheapest for the lower doses now ...

Hey @rainbowsandinfinitesparkles If you do order from Zava, this code REFKDB4G should get you 15% off. However, they sent me a pen on Saturday that expires in June and I still have 2 doses of 2.5 left. I have emailed regarding my 4th dose being after the expiry but not heard back yet (I emailed yesterday and they say to wait up to 48 hours for a response) x

I'm sure I read that the 30 days was cumulative, so as long as they go in the fridge eventually they should be fine. I kept my first one in my bedroom drawer and used it for the full 5 weeks.

I think Bolt are doing 2.5mg for £125 but others may be cheaper with codes.

Did anyone else see in another thread someone promoting dodgy looking Peptides (apparently Terzepitide) from abroad? Didn't even look cheaper and who knows what's in them. I reported it to MN but nothing happened.

Flapearedknave · 30/05/2024 14:47

I am bloody exhausted today. Think i need to force myself to eat more. I may be falling into a disordered pattern if i don't sort it.

It is so easy to go all day and realise i haven't eaten much at all.

Throw me your easy 'i have had a shit day at work and cba (this isnt helping the appetite i think) recipes please!

I have switched to having full fat milk, cheese and yogurt for cals.

Thinking carbonara tonight!

hoola23 · 30/05/2024 14:58

@87SPD thank you! I've committed myself to doing it tonight. I feel like sometimes I am compelled to eat and either starving myself or binging! There is no in between with me. Having little appetite is the main thing I want to get from it so really hoping I'm like you and feel that quickly so I can just eat and stop when I'm full. I don't eat terribly, just eat A LOT!

MrsBurtMacklin · 30/05/2024 15:00

I saw that Asda are doing discount codes too - tiktok has a few people recommending them.

For those who are discouraged when you don't lose weight every time you weigh... It is very normal and expected to plateau and gain sometimes. Especially women - hormones do a lot.

I've attached my weight loss graph for the past 2 months. You can see the trend is very much in the right direction, but this is NOT a linear process.

Moanranger · 30/05/2024 11:30

@AgathaMystery I think we imagine that there are a group of chemists in a shop. They get an order, it is approved, then they walk to their fridge, get the dose, label it, add pens, wrap & pop in the post.
I don’t think so!
we are probably dealing with a call centre, they get your query, press a button & a warehouse/fulfilment centre initiates the process in a very strict, standardised way. E.g. immediate posting of a certain dose, etc. These systems are so strict that it appears to be IMPOSSIBLE for any adjustment.
I get mine thru Health Express. Every time they send an order, I get another sharps bin. These I do not need. I have emailed to request that they not do that. I get a standardised, one shoe fits all email response, and another sharps bin! I have tried phoning, but no joy.
The downside of on line chemists!

Yup. I had actually had a lengthy email exchange with them about it. The reality is I’m going to end up with 3 pens, and paying for 1. I am unsure what to do with the other pens. I am going to ask some ex colleagues about the stability testing.

lurkylurk · 30/05/2024 15:24

@RagzRebooted @AgathaMystery

There are Mounjaro leaflets that say "21 days cumulative" out of fridge but I believe they are for the single use pens or the single use vials. The Kwikpens are a little different and apparently the formula is different with more preservatives added. If you have a look at this document (which is for the single use, vials and Kwikpen multi-dose pens and got to section 6.3 the storage instructions are different:

I'm not moaning ( well maybe a teensy bit 😂) as I've lost absolutely loads in the last year . But my health is NO FUCKING BETTER my blood pressure hasn't gone down at all, not a single point even! , my hips and knees still hurt a lot and I'm freezing ALL THE TIME . I do however, look pretty magnificent in dungarees now though so it's not all bad . Just would have loved to see my health improve with all the effort .

MyCatsSlave · 30/05/2024 15:48

I had my first 2.5mg Mounjaro on Sunday evening and appetite suppression is great, no noticeable side effects after the first day but I’m feeling quite flat. It’s not like me and I can’t seem to snap out of it. Has anyone else had this?

I reported that as well and I believe it was removed.

I'm making up a tub of cous cous salad tonight, soak the cous cous in stock and add chopped peppers, tomatoes, scallions, sweetcorn, whatever veg you like really and some fried and chopped halloumi. Keeps for a few days in the fridge. Think I'll do a big pot of lentil soup too and I can dip into that at mealtimes.

One thing I always struggle with on a diet is all the cooking and dishes so making stuff ahead will hopefully help the mood a bit!

Rulay · 30/05/2024 15:56

I have a personal code for Asda if anyone is ordering through them and wants one, REF8ECWM. 10% off for both of us.

PopcornFiend · 29/05/2024 20:45

Thanks for the new thread!

I took my first 2.5 dose on Monday night, touch of diarrhoea on Tuesday morning but no other side effects. Suppression kicked in on Tuesday.

My concern is that maybe I’m not eating enough.. here’s what I’ve had (note I never eat breakfast, haven’t for many years):

Tuesday:
Lunch - small bowl Greek yoghurt with raspberries & blueberries
Dinner - tiny sliver of cheese omelette, some salad
Drinks/snacks - 1 cup instant coffee, no sugar

Today:
Lunch - bowl of leek & potato soup
Dinner - 1x grilled skewer consisting of 3x chunks chicken, 2x chunks halloumi, a couple of pepper & onion slices. Tablespoon of homemade potato salad. Tablespoon of homemade tzatziki and 1 small piece of flatbread.
Drinks/snacks - 2 cups instant coffee, no sugar

Does the above look like I’m very short of calories/protein? Really struggling to eat more and I don’t want to set myself up for disaster once I’m no longer on MJ, but if that seems like an ok daily food intake then that’s ok.

Grateful for opinions! Thanks 🙏

Think the amount would be about right, I would have a look at Dr Mosley, he offers great advice on high protein meals.
Ive not had the best journey so far at 2.5 weeks, so be very careful what you eat and keep it light.
Another member recommended Imodium, I would have this with you if you do start to feel things are moving too fast.
Good luck

SlenderRations · 30/05/2024 16:03

@PopcornFiend maybe put your food diary into Nutracheck (or similar) and so check the calories and macros?

Tarsandcase · 30/05/2024 16:11

I've had a bit of an incident with my Voy delivery today. The parcel was addressed to me, but the actual prescription had a different name. Their live chat was very efficient and they told me to dispose of the incorrect medicine and they'll send a replacement. If I keep the new one in the fridge, that'll do me for next month, won't it?

If I wasn't getting a free dose I'd be more cross about the whole situation! My name is very unusual (I'm probably the only person in the world with the combination of my first and last name). It makes me uncomfortable to know that someone else has probably been given a prescription with my name on it.

Snozzlemaid · 30/05/2024 16:21

I took my first dose yesterday and the glands in the back of my head/neck are tender today.
Has anyone else had this or likely to be unrelated?

montysma1 · 30/05/2024 16:44

@toomanyjobsforonewoman I am very surprised your BP hasn't dropped. Mine dropped very quickly, well ahead of any weight loss as a direct effect of the drug.

Thanks for the new thread Flappy!

Gutted to read that MedExpress have restricted the pharm20 (something) code. I was relying on that to get my first 10mg when my account unlocked in a few days. I plan to email them and ask them if they'll honour it or I'm moving to The Family Chemist, and they can sod off 😑

Hi, do you know if there is any discount code for The family chemist? for 7.5 mg pen Thanks!

I don't unfortunately, I'll have a look though!

ihatecoffee · 30/05/2024 16:45

Tried to swap over to MedExpress for my mounjaro but they're refusing me saying my BMI is under 30!

Well it wasn't when I started and it's now 27.1

Has anyone had any luck moving to another provider instead of sticking with the one they originally started with, and if so who and how?

bbqprincess · 30/05/2024 16:55

Hi everyone, I'm after a bit of advice.

I usually do my injection on a Thursday morning.

However I've come down with the flu and I had a rough night. It's not a stomach flu, but a sore throat and sore muscles, fever type flu.

I didn't feel like taking it this morning. I thought I would feel better by this evening, but I feel worse.

It's fine to just do it tomorrow, assuming I'll feel ok then ? I'm not hungry today just because I don't feel great anyway and have only had a small bowl of soup.

This will be week 6 for me this week. Last week I went up to 3.75 from 2.5 as I want to take it slow. I was going to brave it and go up to 5 this week, as I've had zero side effects from 2.5 or 3.75, but I don't want to risk being more unwell.

Anyone else avoid doing the injection when not feeling their best with a virus etc ?

Parsley1234 · 30/05/2024 16:55

@ihatecoffee i need to know this too
