Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

As long as they like.

@FastGoose

The 32g are very, very slightly fatter than the 31g, 0.235mm as opposed to 0.261mm. You probably won't even notice the difference but if you want the 32g ones, they're fairly cheap here:

https://www.thefamilychemist.co.uk/product/glucorx-carepoint-4mm-32g-needles/

Sorry, got that the wrong way round! Meant to say the 31g are slightly fatter than the 32g. The higher the number, the finer they are.

Flapearedknave · 29/05/2024 23:56

Family chemist have approved my order. So 10mg should be with me by weekend.

Thank you for another new thread, we're flying through them!

Foxlover46 · 29/05/2024 23:58

Thank you for the thread :)
My pen arrived today the 2.5 and I will read up as the whole thought of pushing the pen down etc has really discombobulated my
Mind!
Aiming to start tomorrow morning , bit nervous but more so about using the pen correctly

NextPrimeMinister · 30/05/2024 00:06

Has anyone received a letter from Our Future Health? Its a health research study, partnered with the NHS.

Thought it seemed a bit too coincidental to get one, after signing up to MJ?

I think it's above board, but assume telling GP may have triggered the invite to join the study.

lurkylurk · 30/05/2024 00:20

@NextPrimeMinister

I got one a while ago but I can't remember whether it was before or after starting MJ.

montysma1 · 30/05/2024 00:28

@GloriaBunniford It did work for repeat, they gave me that one weeks ago when I emailed and asked for a code!
I think they just switched it to first order only today😡

Checking in on this thread. Thanks @FlappyFish for the new one ☺️

Got 3 more full days of hol left then return on Sunday. I'm ready to go home now! Just want to get back to my diet and back to my next dose! I don't especially feel hungry and don't feel like I have been eating loads, but I feel like I look like I have gained weight. So might take me a few weeks to get back to where I was once back.

Also have been bitten so many times by mosquitoes it's driving me barmy being so itchy.

Have a great day all 😊

3wDavid · 30/05/2024 05:58

@Foxlover46 I did my first jab last Saturday and felt exactly like you! It’s actually much simpler than it seems initially. The needle is only teeny tiny. And then when you twist to get to the 1 on the window, it only can go up to 1, there’s no way to overdose it and take more than one dose. I found it pretty anticlimactic in the end. Good luck!

Foxlover46 · 30/05/2024 06:28

@3wDavid ahhh thank you so much ! It's been playing on my mind overnight so this is really helpful thank you :)
How are you feeling on it , and good luck to you too 🤩

3wDavid · 30/05/2024 06:39

@Foxlover46 yeh, it’s been a bit of a mixed bag for me. I didn’t have any immediate side effects and the hunger suppression was instant. On day 3 I had nausea and headache but also I think I got a bug because also woke up with sore throat and a bit of a temperature. Days 4 and 5 - no MJ side effects and no nausea. Today is day 6, it’s still working really well, I’m not hungry at all but also can manage to eat my portions and calories, which wasn’t the case for me the first few days. I couldn’t face the food, especially on day 3 the struggle was real.

I will do my official weigh in on Sat when I do my next jab, but so far 6 lbs down.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 30/05/2024 06:47

@Sye
I didn't include the photo of the stuff I ordered. Yes it really helped me. I suffered for 4 days on my second dose of 7.5- I thought I had Noro virus at first it was so bad. I was very nervous to take my next dose so did a split dose of 5 then 2.5 later in the week but have not had anything before or since.

Snozzlemaid · 30/05/2024 06:48

@Foxlover46 I got my first pen yesterday too and did mine last night.
I will admit I was terrified about it all. Scared of using pen wrong, and a niggle in my mind that I'm trusting this stuff I'm injecting into myself to not harm me.
In the end it was really easy. The needle is so tiny I didn't feel it at all, I only felt the pen touch my skin.
The only thing that flummoxed me for a bit was the cap on the needle. The instructions say to remove the outer cap and then the inner one. My needle didn't have an inner cap.
So looking forward to joining you all and will hopefully have good weight losses to report soon.

3wDavid · 30/05/2024 07:01

Ugh. A bit gutted this morning.

I was going to weigh myself weekly on jab day, but don’t know why things spiraled into a daily weigh in. I have been down every day until today. Today I’m suddenly 1 lb more than I was yesterday. I’ve eaten in calorie deficit, I’ve been regular in the bathroom, like nothing has been different yesterday to warrant this. I’m due on my period tomorrow so maybe that’s it. I know how irrational my reaction is but can’t help but feel annoyed! Like I’ve failed somehow. Ughhhhh.

NCfor24 · 30/05/2024 07:20

@3wDavid a lot of us weigh daily to take the emotion out of it. It's normal to fluctuate especially with hormones. Like you say you're due on so it'll likely be water retention. I've now got 10 weeks of almost daily weigh ins and it does go up by 1lb sometimes, or even 2, then it comes down again. The overall graph is definitely downwards. Weighing weekly you may find you see an apparent gain one week then a big loss the next when it's just that you weighed on a 'heavier' day. I think daily weighing can be really useful.

GlueNoGlue · 30/05/2024 07:33

Weigh day today. I lost nothing 😭 I’ve been so good all week, tried hard, done exercise, eaten well. Only issue is I’m constipated. But to lose nothing all week? I could cry

This happened me this morning too! I hopped on this morning all excited that I knew I'd lost 6lb this week because I weight yesterday then I'd put on a pound lol...

Anyway my first weeks weight loss is 5lb in total and I've dropped a full BMI point from 48.8 🫣 to 47.8.

I've got a tape measure coming today so I have a different way to see what's happening. God it's depressing at the start when you're working so hard and know you'll look exactly the same for ages. Have to keep reminding myself I started this so my body would be healthier and I'm achieving that.

TheOverweightFortySomething · 30/05/2024 07:50

Just placing. Hope everyone is doing well.
I started at 15.7 in January. Lost some
weight by myself. Currently 12.8. I set myself a goal of 11.7 buy the time I go away in 8 weeks.
I'm thinking of ordering one more 5mg pen. I find it’s still working.

It's a massive study that needs a lot of participants so it'll just be coincidence that you got a letter. I've been in it for ages now and know a lot of people who have been invited.

Fluctuating weight is completely normal. Wait until after your period and then weigh yourself. I weigh no more than twice a week and refuse to step on the scales anymore than that. I don't need the sort of negativity in my mind that the scales bring if I'm up a pound for a day or two.

Don't be disheartened. Constipation will definitely be a reason why the scales haven't moved this week. I take senna occasionally when I get bunged up and increase my fluid and veg in take. Go for a walk everyday if you can and it will soon shift.

R4ch402 · 30/05/2024 08:12

Let's hope the disappearing of codes is because they're reducing the prices. I can imagine with more people being prescribed MJ on the NHS recently the pharmacists want to continue their existing customer base so lower prices may keep them.

ThirdStorm · 30/05/2024 08:18

@cerialkiller Bit of a nightmare when you can't control what you eat, but equally it could be rude to say something. Fingers crossed its meat and veg!
