Please note: Mounjaro can only be taken if your BMI is above 30.

Pointers for newbies:

1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1! The instructions say prime each time you take a dose, but actually Eli Lilly have confirmed you only need to prime for the first ever use of a pen. (The video posted says every use, but this isn't true!)

2 - When injecting, hold down the button until the number goes back to 0. Once at 0, keep holding down the button and count to 5 with the needle still in so no medication is lost!

3 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system. Also below you can plot the effect of your doses.
glp1plotter.com/

4 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

5 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

6 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

7 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :

www.medicines.org.uk/emc/product/15481/pil#about-medicine

8 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

9 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. www.chemist-4-u.com/carepoint-pen-needles-31g-4mm-pack-of-100?gclid=Cj0KCQjwiYOxBhC5ARIsAIvdH51rLZBVFQxuvS7mDJooegtK8BMiyT0PwREMRHhH_1atfQIo8TEbsmkaAkA0EALw_wcB

Also there is a 5th dose in each pen. To extract it you can either try a hard twist or use an insulin needle.
medbasic.co.uk/bd-micro-fine-30g-1ml-syringes-needles

10 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day.

11 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

12 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

13 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

14 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
furthet reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - Abdominal side-effects are much easier to control with smaller meals. For example, having 4 small meals in the day vs 2 big meals can have an improvement in nausea and burps.

17 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

18 - Some of the places you can order from are:

MedExpress 2.5mg and 5mg. £149.99. 7.5mg £169. Use code STARTNOW. Ask for other codes if that doesn't work.
The Family Chemist 2.5mg and 5mg -£149. 7.5mg £169.
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 5mg
Bolt pharmacy 2.5mg £125, 5mg £179. 7.5mg £189
Asda 2.5mg and 5mg £184. 7.5mg £189
Boots £219 +
Chemist4U £179 +
Superdrugs

19 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@FlappyFish Thank you for the new thread.

I'm so proud of our collective achievements. I've been unwell with pneumonia. My eating has been all over the shop and I've been unable to exercise but am looking forward to getting back to it this weekend :))

If anyone has any resources, books, websites on the mental stuff around changing eating I'd really like to hear about them... thank you!

GreyFinch · 29/05/2024 21:45

placemarking 👋🏼 can hardly keep up with these now! 😂

QueenOfHiraeth · 29/05/2024 21:45

I'm in week 3 and have noticed a bit of hunger and temptation creeping back today. Next dose due Fri and don't want to bring it forward as I have a dinner out tomorrow which will involve alcohol. I haven't challenged myself with the MJ/alcohol combo yet but had bad cramps and diarrhoea the one time I drank on Rybelsus.
I'm debating stepping up to 3.75mg for my next dose if I survive the drinking Grin

FastGoose · 29/05/2024 21:46

I'm seeing some people talking about not hitting protein goals / trying a protein shake.. I highly recommend some of the flavoured whey protein powders from myprotein (I got the cranberry and raspberry, raspberry lemonade and pineapple ones all of which are delicious, yet to try the chocolate sachet but) which have helped me reach my 100g protein daily goals when foods sometimes not got that far.
Anyway I got recommended by all the wonderful people on here and used a referral code which got me 20 pounds off my first order. Here's a link if anyone wants to try an order and you'll get 20 off too!

Rulay · 29/05/2024 21:48

Although!! NSV - I've gone a full week without eating any kind of takeaway food at all - first time I've managed to do this since I got my first job and my own money over 20 years ago Blush

wizzywig · 29/05/2024 21:53

How long can a person stay on 10mg for?

Wonkypictureframe · 29/05/2024 21:55

Prawns are very high in protein for what they are, and you can snack on them too or easily add them into a meal without them bulking it up too much. 25g of protein per 100g.

More about the wonders of prawns in this link, which is admittedly a company selling prawns! https://seafarms.com.au/what-is-the-nutritional-value-of-prawns/

Flower79 · 29/05/2024 22:05

Please can I ask where everyone stores the pen? Fridge or not? The box says only the first dose needs to be stored in the fridge

FastGoose · 29/05/2024 22:09

Me again. I've decided to buy a box of needles for my pen.. I can see from the dispensing label I've been prescribed glucoRX finepoint 4mm/32g. My question is. If I buy the same but 31 gauge is this going to cause huge problem? Or has anyone else done this? I'm just being a cheap ass as the 31gs are half the price of 32g but if anyone has tried and really don't recommend I'll get the higher gauge! TIA

ClonedSquare · 29/05/2024 22:09

Chicken breast isn't my favourite cut, but I've been cutting up about 200g and having it for lunch/snack. That's around 50g of protein (and only 200 calories) right there!

I know people always talk about it for protein so I'm stating the obvious, but I hadn't realised quite how high it was!

Doesn't need to be in the fridge once you've had the first dose, but needs to be kept below 30 degrees Celsius.

NaturalBlondeYeahRight · 29/05/2024 22:34

Person on previous thread struggling with dodgy stomach, co-codamol helps and so does this stuff (I got it from Amazon) and you add to a drink. Doesn't taste of anything.
Skin is supposed to shrink much slower so might not be too bad after a while. Anyway, I'd rather have that and better health.
I saw a video on TikTok that had an explanation about why we/others don't see the size change at first. They described our larger bodies as a kitchen roll. You don't notice it getting smaller for ages as you use it, but near the end you see every sheet making a difference. Thought that was quite a good analogy.

Can anyone recommend protein shakes (sachets/bags) which are not Purition? I ordered several flavours a few weeks back but I absolutely hate the texture. To the point of feeling sick. It feels like greasy and at the same time too watery and with all the grainy bits. Cannot stand them.

I use Purition, and a few whizzes in a decent blender with some ice changes the texture and mouth feel completely.

Well done @Rulay !!!! This is a cracking NSV. I have had chippy tea whilst unwell but am getting back to it now. High fives!!!!

Gazelda · 29/05/2024 22:52

I've ordered my first dose. Had to do a video to show my ID, body and weight on scales. I haven't had a full length mirror for years, so had to tell DH what I'm doing and get him to film me. He then got banished to the other room while I stood on the scales.

This feels like an adventure. Lots of prep and getting into the right mindset.

Fingers crossed I'll soon start feeling elated achievement!

GloriaBunniford · 29/05/2024 22:57

Oh can anyone supply a code for MedExpress?
I got really hopeful that the one supplied in the previous thread, PHARMSTOCK20 would take 20% off, but when I tried it said that code is only for new customers on their 1st order.
This is my 2nd order with them.
I can't find any codes at all.
Does anyone have one for repeat customers that could be shared?

I'm sorry, there's none at all that I know of now. I'm hunting fervently but not getting very far! 😤

I'm hunting too, have been for hours!
Please don't apologise though - it's not your fault! Thank you for trying!😍
I think it may have worked for some repeat orders, but not for me.
I'm surprised at MedExpress, they must realise the way to keep customers is to keep the price competitive.....I'm already looking at switching to Pharmacy2U who have a code which makes it much cheaper than MedExpress....I'm sure others will follow!

Thanks that was me 😊
Does this help with the runs and feeling sick?
Want to carry on but it’s really getting me down feeling so unwell.

@FastGoose

The 32g are very, very slightly fatter than the 31g, 0.235mm as opposed to 0.261mm. You probably won't even notice the difference but if you want the 32g ones, they're fairly cheap here:
