Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@AgathaMystery it's worth a try! I need to work out how I would enter the code as I'm on the subscription plan 😬. I'll have a look tomorrow.

And that's a good point of whether they'll all have surplus of the 2.5 and 5 going out of date....

Choux · 07/04/2024 23:03

MedExpress seem to have a new website. It says the cost of 7.5mg is £170. I don't think they had published the cost before had they?

I just did the consultation and there is a question asking if you have taken injectables in the last two weeks and another asking: Are you currently in the 20th to 24th week of continuous treatment with injectable weight loss medication?

So presumably you can switch suppliers to them but if you are 5 months in they might want new photos, weight details etc. I didn't create an account to see if 7.5mg could be ordered.

Choux · 07/04/2024 22:19

The pens marked 05 2024 expire at the end of May don't they? So they can still be sold for three weeks from now.

But I could believe that the producer overestimated how many people would start using it - we aren't generally as big as Americans - and so there is a surplus of 2.5mg and 5mg pens with the pharmacies. Perhaps that's why the 7.5mg keeps being delayed - so we use up all the 5mg pens. Because our pens are different to the US ones so they can't just send them elsewhere.

I keep thinking the delay of 7.5mg is intentional. I can’t see how a huge pharmaceutical company couldn’t have managed the roll out properly. If they’ve got an over supply (or even adequate supply) of the lower doses, how can they possibly not have ANY 7.5mg ready yet? It is entirely predictable yet they didn’t predict it? It doesn’t make sense to me.

I don't want to jinx myself but the strangest thing has happened. I haven't had a migraine in weeks (im on week 4 of MJ) and I usually have atleast 4 every week. I have a dx of chronic migraine and I'm under the hospital for it, it's that severe.

I don't know if it's the MJ, the amount of water I'm drinking, a coincidence, weight loss or all of the above but wow. I forgot what it's like not to be in pain all of the time. I feel better than I have in years.

This is amazing! Crossing fingers it keeps working for you. What a great side benefit!!

I’ve used pharmacy4u twice without issues and am going to carry on as my bmi is under 30 now and don’t want any hassle.

@Investinmyself
Is that pharmacy2u or pharmacy4u? I can find pharmacy2u www.pharmacy2u.co.uk but for pharamcy4u I can only find https://online-pharmacy4u.co.uk/

Just wanted to make sure I'm looking at the right one as I'm looking to switch from Voy.

Note for any newbies who have stumbled into this thread….

This weight loss medication is for those of us struggling with obesity (BMI over 30) and is not suitable for general weight loss. Exception is a weight related condition with an overweight BMI.

@ObsidianTree can we include this in next opening post please x

WannabeHealthier · 07/04/2024 23:49

Well done @NC543210 that’s a great result. I’m pleased to hear someone else saying they want it to slow down now as I feel similar in terms of safe weight loss- slow and steady is good!

WannabeHealthier · 07/04/2024 23:51

Today has been my worst day for side effects. I’m due my 6th dose this Tuesday.

Terrible pain this morning (period) and had to rush to toilet with diarrhoea earlier. Then had bad wind and bloating all evening. Only just settling down so I can try to go to sleep now.

My skin is also more sensitive than usual.

FlappyFish · 08/04/2024 00:01

@WannabeHealthier I’ve not had the diarrhoea, but I absolutely agree that this has made my period more painful. I feel like a teen again and want to curl up with a hot water bottle. I don’t have skin sensitivity.

Hope you feel better soon.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 08/04/2024 00:32

@MammothyGoodness glad to hear you're feeling better. Hopefully it won't happen again.

MelissaLouRocks · 08/04/2024 01:08

OK, I've been having no symptoms at all so far other than 💩 being slightly irregular, so accept I've been very lucky.

Now I think I'm having a very weird symptom. I've always had a very keen sense of smell, but now I seem to have a nose like a shit house rat!

Anyone else getting particularly "smelly"?!

oaode · 08/04/2024 05:30

Just on the issues during your period.. MJ is probably having an affect as your blood sugar level will be lower on the MJ. You could possibly decrease your period symptoms by eating something sweet. But that will be counter productive to your weight loss. So it becomes what's more important..feeling crap for a short period or loosing some more pounds 💷🤔?

MEDEXPRESS DISCOUNT CODES
Apparently they have a discount code page at the url below
https://www.whatsdiscount.co.uk/discount/medexpress.co.uk

That's not their own page, but just another random site that publishes discount codes. I know at least one of those quoted on that site doesn't work, so I probably wouldn't rely on it.

@ObsidianTree thanks for continuing the threads. Is there any reason why you left Bolt out of trusted providers, I think you used them previously? I live overseas and Bolt kindly gave me 3 months supply (a pack of 2.5 and 5 and an additional 5) when I first started as I wasn't due back in UK until May. Very happy so far but wondering if I have missed something?

TheOverweightFortySomething · 08/04/2024 07:42

Morning

I am due my 2nd dose on Wednesday and so far have lost nothing. Little disheartening when you read of others having good weight loss.

Appetite has definitely been suppressed and I’m managing about 800cl - 1000 per day.

Hoping it kicks in soon.

lurkylurk · 08/04/2024 07:45

For anyone wanting to switch from Wegovy to Mounjaro, most pharmacies seem to make you wait for a month off the Wegovy and then start at the lowest dose of Mounjaro which may not be effective if you've been on the highest dose of Wegovy!

However Bolt pharmacy say the following so may be worth speaking to them first:
"Can I switch from Wegovy to Mounjaro?
Generally speaking, there is a 1 month washout period for switching between GLP-1s, however depending on the dose that you are taking and how long you have been on it, we can tailor our advice to your individual needs. Please get in touch with us to discuss the best option for you."

Same for me! My second injection is due Wednesday too and I’ve actually gained a pound 😂
I totally get 2.5 is not a therapeutic dose, but going by the first and second threads most people seem to have lost a decent amount in the first 1-2 weeks so was expecting the same.

After the first month it would be worth reviewing again but fingers crossed we see the scales move soon

I'm on the mounjaro tik Tok and there is a lot of good advice on there about this medication and one of the things they say repeatedly is that in the drug trials lots of people didn't loose anything in the first few weeks on 2.5mg dose. It's just an introductory dose to make sure our bodies can handle the drug. The significant weight lose started at the 10mg dose for many people.

dmott · 08/04/2024 08:10

My 5mg pen that I ordered has a expiry date of 06/24 med express sent it I ordered early to get the £60 off deal and told them I need it for April 24th which is when my 2.5mg pen runs out.

I did my first on a Tuesday and had lost 4 pounds by the weekend, then it wore off and Easter happened and then my period started and was ill with that so didn't then do the second dose until the next Friday and gained some back (some of which will have been period bloat).

So tomorrow would have been my next injection day and I've settled at 3 pounds lost in just under 2 weeks.

Not as impressive as some but I think it's an ok start, especially as it was fairly effortless (and there was some bigger meals, drinks etc. in there with Easter etc.)

Hoping for more effect when move up to 5mg, although I am having a bit of a rough time with nausea the last couple of days, but haven't been sleeping well (and had wine over the weekend😂) which doesn't help.

@dmott
That'll be the end of June for expiry though (it says in the leaflet somewhere that the expiry is the end of that month) so it'll be fine.

Usernameisnotavailable0 · 08/04/2024 08:16

@MelissaLouRocks

Yes, I have noticed my smelling senses have dialled up!

I was always a super smeller too, but now it feels so much stronger. It's not helping me feel less nauseous 🙃

I have also noticed, since moving to 5gm that I feel much calmer. Things at work that would have really wound me up, don't seem to be as triggering.

NCfor24 · 08/04/2024 08:19

@TheOverweightFortySomething @Feelingslightlyuneasy

Hopefully I'm going to offer some reassurance.
I've had 4 doses of 2.5mg and due to start 5mg this Friday.
I lost 2lb week one then nothing. Suddenly this week at an impromptu weigh in yesterday I've lost 6lb total so by Friday it should be 6 or 7lb for the 4 weeks on the non-therapeutic dose.
So half a stone for the easiest diet ever as I've not felt I'm dieting. I've been away for a week and I've eaten quite a few meals out and takeaways. What the jabs have given me is appetite suppression, a feeling of fullness and also willpower. It has been incredibly easy to make healthier choices without feeling I'm depriving myself. This for me is the gamechanger. It's willpower in an injection and means I can stick with making these choices for a better, healthier me. I've not cut out anything.
It is only these past 3 or 4 days I've actually started making meal choices based on nutrition and I've discovered protein is incredibly filling for minimal calories! I'm using Nutracheck now to count calories and protein and it's finally kind of clicking for me.
If I can lose 7lb a month until I'm at a healthy BMI then I will be very very happy. It's a sensible rate.
Last week I resigned myself to not losing on this dose. Everyone else seemed to be and I felt an outlier! But it is coming off, it isn't the proper dose, and I'd already bought my 5mg pen so knew I was going to do another 4 weeks anyway.
Don't be disheartened!
