Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Please can I join in too. Current bmi of 46! I started Mounjaro yesterday and food cravings have gone completely. I wasn't expecting it to be so sudden. Was it like this for anyone else? I made lunch today because I was feeling light headed rather than hungry and I had no sensation when eating the food at all. No joy or feeling at all, it was just fuel for my body. Just trying to get my head around it!

CiderJabs · 06/04/2024 13:03

Marking place Daffodil

Frightenedbunny · 06/04/2024 13:06

Thanks for this info. I’m just deliberating starting this as I’m fat and fed up. I don’t even recognise the person in photos anymore. I was disgusted at a photo taken last night.

what losses has everyone had in 3 months?

Similar for me - I was super sensitive to saxenda and also to this drug. I am thinking I might go longer between doses as I don’t feel hungry on day 7 either. I have just taken dose 4 of 2.5mg.

BanditsBiscuits · 06/04/2024 13:23

Thanks for the new thread @ObsidianTree excellent roundup of info on there ☺️

Just popping back to say the most recent code for Medexpress that worked for me is

BIRTHDAY-BUNNY

Which gave me £30 off.

I followed recent advice from the previous thread and added my previous pen with prescription label through the contact email and I've had an email with more questions and asking to verify pics/ID so hopefully a good sign that my order has gone through.

Have a lovely weekend everyone 🌼

Scalessayeek · 06/04/2024 13:32

Happy weekend just place marking really!

Working 2x10 hour days for overtime for pens 🤪

Working out on my breaks as it's sedentary office work 😣

FlappyFish · 06/04/2024 13:49

@Frightenedbunny It’s only been available in the U.K. for two months. I started pretty much as it became available and took injection 8 yesterday. I am currently down nearly 2 stone: 14.1 to 12.4. (I was going to use Ozempic but that wasn’t available so I read up and went for MJ).

It’s been available in the USA a lot longer. I’ve seen some folks there have varied losses.

Losing really fast wouldn’t be healthy either. Best wishes if you join all of us on the MJ journey. This is by far my favourite and most supporting thread on MN.

TheOverweightFortySomething · 06/04/2024 13:55

I’ve struggled with feeling hungry. Day 4 for me. I use the My Protejn Meal Replacement Blend. Just to get something in me.
It’s mixed with water so 200cl. It’s the best I’ve tried. Doesn’t have many carbs or sugar.

Weighed myself yesterday and lost 3lb but seems to have gone back on overnight somehow.

Have 2 sets of scales. Doctors scales and digital. I’ll wait till Wednesday now and weight again which is 2nd dose day.

KeepingUndercover · 06/04/2024 14:24

Definitely don't compare your weight across different scales @TheOverweightFortySomething. They very likely weight slightly differently, especially if the doctor's scales are regularly calibrated or haven't been calibrated in years but used loads.

I think with the way this slows digestion down, a lot of the time gains might not be real but just fluctuations due to fluid retention, a full bowel or something. I'm definitely noticing fluctuations in me that don't match my actual diet.

WannabeHealthier · 06/04/2024 14:25

Weigh in day today. Halfway through week 1 of the 5mg jab and it’s a 1lb loss. This takes me to a 1 stone 1lb loss in 5.5 weeks.

So happy with my loss this week as I felt ravenous last week on the “freebie” dose from my 2.5mg pen. I’m not sure it was a full dose! Bad timing as we were socialising over Easter and there was so much chocolate!

SW 2 March - 229 lbs (16 stone 5lbs)
CW 6 April - 214 lbs (15 stone 4lbs)
GW - 12 stone?

I’m tall so my BMI has dropped to 30.7 which I’m delighted with as I’m coming out of the danger zone heath wise.

I’m all about healthy and sustainable weight loss, so aiming for 1-2lb loss a week. I’ve resigned myself to spending on the pens for 12 months and am actually saving quite a lot of money from snacks/ eating out, so the impact financially is not as bad as I thought it would be!

Main side effects are headaches, light headed (fleeting) and being cold. Also have some skin sensitivity which I will keep an eye on (bumps and slightly itchy hand, redness in patches).

Frightenedbunny · 06/04/2024 14:30

@FlappyFish thank you. I think I’m going to give it a go. Menopause has hit me badly.

Wonkypictureframe · 06/04/2024 14:37

I’ve lost about 7lbs in just over three weeks. I’ve not felt at all deprived and have eaten exactly what I wanted, but what I want is small portions of healthy food. It’s amazing.

Ha ha I do this too! I need to do one extra evening shift a week to pay for it.
Although I am hardly eating anything so it might work out OK financially!

Shearebel · 06/04/2024 14:44

Hi everyone - I've been on Ozempic/Wegovy for a year, starting weight 15st7lbs and current weight 10st6lbs. My goal weight is 9 stone but I feel like my loss has plateaued now with Wegovy on the 2.4mg dose. Has anyone switched to MJ and overcome this?

Welcome! And yes I also had an almost instant reaction! Also have a high BMI, I've just taken my fourth injection and I'm 13.5 pounds down over the last three weeks, so I did have a great reaction to this dose.
Looking forward to moving up to 5mg though, partly because this dose is starting to wear off a little earlier each week but also because I felt amazing that first week (calm, less anxious, happier) and whilst that hasn't gone completely; I'm hoping the higher dose brings it back a bit!

CiderJabs · 06/04/2024 14:49

@Shearebel what is your bmi now? You may struggle to order MJ as a new customer with a low bmi. You may be able to switch with your current pharmacy ?

BMI is 25.2, I think 23 is the cut off for when it's maintenance (that's what it is with Wegovy for me anyway), but yes I don't know if that's still the case if I changed product. I am still losing but it's maybe 2lbs or so a month.

BlackFriYay · 06/04/2024 14:54

Checking in and following. I'm on week 4 (as of monday)

SW - 13 stone 8
CW (as of 3 days ago) - 12 stone 7

I'm over the moon and expecting to see another couple of lbs off the scale when I weigh on Monday.

I've really worked hard at exercise and calorie counting and for the first time it feels possible 😊

KeepingUndercover · 06/04/2024 14:55

@Shearebel I know it must be frustrating but at that BMI and so close to your goal weight I think that is a decent rate. I'd honestly just keep doing what you're doing. You will get there.

I think you're probably right! Just thinking about bikinis for summer!

KeepingUndercover · 06/04/2024 14:59

@Shearebel wear the bikini anyway! It's the confidence that makes the bikini, not the scales. You just have to not give any fucks and you'll look good in a bikini at any size.

CiderJabs · 06/04/2024 15:15

@Shearebel I'm inclined to agree - I don't think switching will do you any good at this point. Hopefully you will have built some good habits while on wegovy to enable to maintain / lose slowly ? 9st also seems very low (I should know, I'm a shortie!) so might be worth revisiting that goal?

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 06/04/2024 15:21

Thank you @ObsidianTree for the new thread and fab first post!

Marking my place. Day 2 after 2nd dose and I really don't need to eat much to feel like I've just eaten a giant Xmas dinner!

Soukmyfalafel · 06/04/2024 15:32

Thanks for the new thread and congratulations CiderJabs.

I managed to get the 5th dose from the 2.5 pen today. I found my 4th jab on Monday wasn't doing anything for me anymore and it worked better for me to take the first 5mg jab into next week and move my dates. I'm almost a stone down and have about 18lbs left to lose. Very pleased so far as I wanted to be where I want to be in July, and as long as this continues to work and I lose 2lb a week I will hopefully get there. I won't kick myself if not though.

I'm starting to feel a bit thinner now too, which I didn't before. Its nice to feel this way again as I was on the obese BMI which had never happened to me before until recently. I never thought I'd ever be happy to be overweight!

Can I ask those who are now on 5mg if there was a noticeable increase in effect compared to the 2.5mg? Does it still wear off towards the end of the week?

I've had loose bowels and nausea yesterday and today, but it could just be a mild bug.
