Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@ObsidianTree thanks for continuing the threads. Is there any reason why you left Bolt out of trusted providers, I think you used them previously? I live overseas and Bolt kindly gave me 3 months supply (a pack of 2.5 and 5 and an additional 5) when I first started as I wasn't due back in UK until May. Very happy so far but wondering if I have missed something?

Hey, I just forgot about them tbh! I took the list from Reddit and didn't add any extra!

@Usernameisnotavailable0 it's interesting you say about being calmer. I'm autistic and have cPTSD from multiple traumas, so often needed to use anxiety meds. I haven't taken one in the last week, and my pain levels from my disabilities have also reduced.

As someone before said.... it's witchcraft!

Morning

I am due my 2nd dose on Wednesday and so far have lost nothing. Little disheartening when you read of others having good weight loss.

Appetite has definitely been suppressed and I’m managing about 800cl - 1000 per day.

Hoping it kicks in soon.

You need to drink more. Your digestive system needs fluid to keep things moving. Try and up what you’re drinking to 1500-2000cl and see how you go

Choux · 08/04/2024 08:49

From Bolt's Mounjaro page:

According to a clinical trial, people who used Mounjaro for 72 weeks lost an average of :

· 16.1 kg (35.5 lb) with the 5 mg dose.
· 22.2 kg (48.9 lb) with the 10 mg dose.
· 23.6 kg (52.0 lb) with the 15 mg dose².
So some people lose well on the 5mg dose but some will need to go to 10mg. And there must be some variability in those results eg some only lost 20lb and some lost 70lb.

Layer in the side effects and some will decide the side effects v weight lost v cost make it not the right option for them. And others will find it life changing.

I love it so far but am hoping I won't need to take it for 72 weeks to get my 40lb weight loss. If I've lost 8lb in 5 weeks then hopefully 25-30 weeks will get me there.

noclouds · 08/04/2024 08:50

I took my second injection last night.

Weight loss has been good, it's higher than normal as I always put on & then lose when I have my period, which was last week.

Week 1
SW 16st
CW 15st 5lbs

I've been ok on it and not really any symptoms except insomnia! I'm not the best sleeper but have really struggled to go to sleep this week, last night it was 2am before I fell asleep, and I had to be up at 8am. Any one else having this ?

CiderJabs · 08/04/2024 08:51

Good morning my dear readers! Praise the Lord forI have pooped!!!

Had prunes and figs for breakfast again which should hopefully continue to help.

Whoever mentioned migraines (sorry! Forgot who!)- I also suffer from them badly - and I have also noticed a difference. I think it's drinking more water?! For the first time in ages I've gone over a week without needing sumatriptan.

I've also unexpectedly come on (not ideal on holiday), hadn't had a period in 3 months (in Peri) and weirdly I didn't feel any symptoms leading up to it.

Could all be a coincidence and if so, a very happy one!

Whattodo112222 · 08/04/2024 08:51

I'm on my second dose of 2.5mg today. Injected first thing and feeling a bit nauseous..

Did anyone have any significant weight loss using 2.5mg? I know it says its the dose to get you used to it but I can definitely feel I've lost weight. My appetite has significantly reduced, I could easily go most of the day without eating.

Yesterday, DD and I went to a cafe at 4pm as we'd been out all day and the only thing I had was a protein smoothie at 9am, I wasn't hungry at all but felt I should eat. I couldn't eat more than half of what I had ordered!

lurkylurk · 08/04/2024 08:55

Has anyone here got hypermobility syndrome or similar?

I was hoping with the research that shows this reduces inflammation that it might help with my joints but if anything they seem to be worse.

I put my neck out right at the start and it had just about got better and then went again in my sleep a couple of days ago, it's making driving difficult as it's painful to turn it the one way properly.

I have a really dodgy sacro-iliac joint (been that way since DD2) that always hurts to some degree but if it really goes out I have a trick involving door jambs that puts it back in. It needed doing last night so I did but 5 mins later it was back to being really painful and had to take a painkiller and go to bed with it like that and couldn't sleep for ages (bit better this morning). My knees have been aching a lot too.

Just wondered if anyone else has the same kind of issues and whether they'd noticed any difference positive or negative.

Whattodo112222 · 08/04/2024 08:59

Can anyone recommend any protein tablets from My protein?

Yes, I've had it all my life, now in my 50's being investigated for EDS. I have multiple inflammation and autoimmune issues and my pain has lessened this last week. But rather than be dejected, I think you need to give it more of a chance to build up in your system to know whether it truly helps or not.

KeepingUndercover · 08/04/2024 09:14

@Whattodo112222 there's a fair few of us who've had good weight loss on the 2.5mg dose. It does work for some people even though it's a priming dose.

lurkylurk · 08/04/2024 09:18

@MelissaLouRocks

We have another thing in common then!

I don't even quite pass the Beighton scoring test (fingers bend back on one hand and until I got fat could put both hands on the floor with straight knees, belly gets in the way now!) but have been told by physio I have a hypermobile hip too and she reckoned my pelvic prolapse was caused by weak connective tissues and my chiropractor said my spine and neck are hypermobile too, and shoulder blades slightly.

I've also had a lot of the other symptoms all my life like low blood pressure and fainting when I was younger, pelvic prolapse, stretch marks in weird places not due to weight gain, varicose veins from a young age etc. and then just joints that always seem to be causing problems, hips go out of place sometimes making walking painful until they pop back, a wrist that has to be "shaken" back into place regularly, shoulders that are always up to something and a very unstable SI joint. I sometimes wake up with an injury that has happened in the night like a subluxated rib or most recently did something to my shoulder in my sleep that meant I couldn't raise my arm for 6 months!

My sister has some of these issues too and my mum was somewhat hypermobile. I just seem to have been having a lot of issues with this the last couple of weeks since started on Mounjaro, hope it gets better!

KeepingUndercover · 08/04/2024 09:22

I stared my 5mg pen last night. In my first 4 weeks I've lost 6.8kg, or a stone if you prefer imperial. This week it was 1kg down so it's slowed to a nice sustainable number as I expected.

I am starting from 120kg so much higher than many on this thread, so I'd have expected big numbers at the start as I just burn more calories existing. I'm setting myself goals of 10kg at a time as that feels much more achievable. Not noticing a huge change physically yet. Slight loosening of waist bands but I think it'll be a way to go before new clothes come out.

imnottoofussed · 08/04/2024 09:45

Hi all, had my first dose on Friday and have been following the thread. Hoping for even 1lb loss this week.

For those who don't lose on the 2.5 do you think that's because the appetite suppressant isn't working and they over eat? I can't see why if the appetite suppression is working and they are eating less that weight wouldn't be lost.

Just preparing myself in case I don't lose Grin

So far I've only had one small side effect (stomach cramp/wind when I took my other meds on the first day) otherwise I've got fully suppressed appetite and hoping it doesn't wear off as the week progresses.

So weird isn't it! I regularly put my ribs out just by leaning over the arm of the sofa, just silly things you don't think about. I used to be a county swimmer, so shoulders shot anyway, and a twin pregnancy finally finished off my SI joints. And my left knee's a bugger, if I kneel down it locks, and I have to do some really weird manoeuvres to get going again!

I've had to retire due to ill health, but it was one of the reasons I became a sports therapist, to understand my own issues better. I'm mid 50's now but can still put my palms flat on the floor, it's mad. And lots of my family the same too.

sassygirlx · 08/04/2024 09:52

For anyone who has used Voy, has anyone managed to get a discount on their second dose from referring someone?

Ironinglady2024 · 08/04/2024 09:52

I feel like a complete idiot. I pulled it out before it had finished and watched liquid still come out of needle 😩😩😢 I read instructions so many times. I don’t know what happened, I moved and it was out. Don’t know how much I then got.
First dose of MJ and a fail. 😔

MelissaLouRocks · 08/04/2024 09:53

So took my second jab and weighed this morning. If you remember I was getting stressed the other day about weighing every day, and exchanging food noise for number noise, but I've actually forgotten over the weekend! A bit peeved as I've put on a pound from when I weighed last week, but we all know it's swings n roundabouts, so c'est la vie. Have been very lucky to have no side effects other than a bionic nose, so I'll take that. 😄

SW 196.6lbs (BMI 32)
CW 194.2lbs
GW 160lbs (will work from there)

DameDaffodil · 08/04/2024 09:55

Hi all, been following since the first thread and took my last 2.5mg on Friday. Apologies if this has been covered already but is mounjaro compatible with HRT? Need to order the 5mg but also need to restart my HRT as I'm feeling dreadful. I know they check your other meds when you order but just interested to see if others are taking both.

BourbonD · 08/04/2024 09:56

I’m in week 3, 13lbs down. The food noise is creeping for sure, stood with the fridge open today then realised what I was doing!
If I decide to use the extra last dose, are people doing their usual 2.5mg dose and then twisting again and re-injecting (new needle) for the last dose, or twisting all the way up and injecting both in one go? Hope that makes sense.

I don't think you can twist past 1 to inject both at once.

I did. SW 236. After 4 weeks on 2.5 I was down to 228. I'm now on 5mg and after 2nd injection I'm down to 222, so in total 14 pounds.

I get some serious nausea so have decided to stick with 5mg as it seems to be doing the job.

Love these threads, I didnt even get to comment in Part 3 so marking my place.

First week of 5mg going well for me. No side effects and only 6lbs down from SW weight however clothes are fitting better and it's easier to make better choices.
