Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Catching up. I took my 3rd dose early this afternoon to see what side effects I had (I took the other two late evening before going to sleep). After about 2 hours I lost my appetite and all interest in food and I feel slightly more tired, but that's it.

@ChristmasLightsLover I've mostly been eating chicken and green veg or salad. Also protein shakes to help me get enough protein too. Occasionally other meat or fish with mainly green veg, though I have had the odd small bit of pasta or bread for a sandwich.

I had two mini sausage rolls once and they made me have bad side effects, so won't make that mistake again. Haven't eaten anything stodgy or fried as 1. I have no appetite for food like that and 2. I don't want the side effects!

I'm going to make some lentil soup tomorrow after seeing posters on here talk about it!

EsotericMnemonic · 11/04/2024 22:10

@AgathaMystery I love the Roasting Tin books, all so quick and easy.
Im a big fan of lentils, beans, chickpeas etc and at the moment, these are two of my favourite recipes:
Sweet Korean Lentils
Bean Chilli
Lots of fibre to keep things moving too. My family have them with rice and veg, I just have the veg.

Sweet Korean Lentils

All the flavours of Korean BBQ made vegan and gluten-free! Inspired by bulgogi, this dish is sweet and mildly spiced, just 15 minutes to make!

Anyone who bought from Asda, how long did it take for a response once you'd sent pics?

I heard back from Asda within 24 hours of sending my pics through @Alice2535

Femeia · 11/04/2024 22:54

An update from me regarding Medexpress- they agreed to refund me but said it could take any time up to 10 days to show in my bank account.
Meanwhile I have placed an order with Bolt and am waiting to hear if it is approved - as it's 7.5 it won't come till w/c 22nd. As long as I'm able to use the extra dose in the 5mg pen it will be fine.

I'm feeling really bloated and uncomfortable tonight, the constipation has kicked in. Have taken senna and am hoping it works overnight.

@FlappyFish I totally get you on the frustration. I was 0.2lbs off going into the 199lb mark, have been really good all week and have somehow put on weight. I'm trying not to do my usual sod it response...

Gruttenberg · 11/04/2024 22:58

I'm in week 4 and 16lb down on 2.5, and still not feeling hungry, but need to place my next order. I'll be utilising the leftovers to take a 5th 2.5 dose next Tuesday. I can't decide when reordering to stick at 2.5 for another 4 weeks (no side effects other than cold) or go up to 5?

Has anyone else stayed on 2.5 for longer than the initial 4 week period and continued to lose? Also has anyone only experienced side effects when they've increased the dose. It's a dilemma!

WannabeHealthier · 11/04/2024 23:09

@Gruttenberg I thought about sticking with the 2.5mg as I was losing weight, but decided to increase it because 5mg is the first therapeutic dose. The 2.5mg is just a starter dose, to get your body used to it. Now I’m on 5mg, I definitely think it’s working more effectively for me.

If you were having bad side effects, I think this would be the only reason to stick at 2.5 to give yourself time to get used to it.

Now I’m on 5mg and it’s working - without notable side effects- I plan to stick with it as long as possible. I have no plans to increase to 7.5mg because I don’t need it (yet!)

Thanks very much - that makes sense. I'll give it a go, can't believe how well it works!

Interestingly according to this site if you are taking Mounjaro US which is for Type 2 diabetes (often solved by losing weight) you go up to 5mg and then stay there. You don't go higher than that.

Zepbound US which is for weight loss goes all the way up to 15mg.

I think this explains why supply of 7.5mg Mounjaro UK is delayed. They made tons of 2.5mg and 5mg pens as they were expecting it to be used by diabetics who would never need doses above 5mg.

They've probably been simmering the dug down in huge vats to make it more concentrated and then putting it back into pens!

www.tryhabitual.com/journal/zepbound-vs-mounjaro-whats-the-difference

Not true. I have MJ prescribed for my diabetes in the US and am on my second 7.5 month. I have my first blood tests post-MJ next week to see how it is affecting my blood sugar levels, which have been out of control for some time. I have also lost 20lbs in the last 12 weeks, which I am sure will also help with my sugar levels.

TimeIretired · 12/04/2024 05:11

@JanetSnakeholeMacklin luckily only travelling up to Scotland by car so can stop if needed. I’d already injected by the time I read this so will have to see 🤞. Thanks.

I've just ordered my second month of 2.5mg. If it's working for you there's no need to rush up the doses in my opinion. But everyone is different.

Ahh I love Scotland - hope you have a great time! Let us know what the 5 is like, I'm moving up to that dose soon!

Choux · 12/04/2024 07:51

@spamm hi - I had forgotten there was someone from the US on the thread! Thanks for putting us right on the use of Mounjaro for diabetes in the US. Glad you're getting some good results on your weight and hope this translates to some good blood sugar data next week for you.

ObsidianTree · 12/04/2024 07:54

@Gruttenberg id say go with the 2.5mg if you feel happy on it.

As you've already taken your 4th dose and still feel it's suppressing appetite etc, then seems like you could stay on it. I think some Americans stay on 2.5mg for a long time if they can.

The main issue, is if you stay on 2.5mg and feel it's no longer working before you get to the end of the 2nd pen!

Good luck ☺️

Good morning ! End of week 1 - 3.5lb 🙂

I’m thinking side effect dependent, if I do another month it’ll be on 2.5 as I’ve got a trip away planned next month and definitely don’t want to be laid up with more side effects caused by going up a dose!

ObsidianTree · 12/04/2024 08:26

Well done for your loss @guestusername

I suppose it depends on if you are getting side effects now on 2.5mg. I didn't get much side effects on 2.5mg. On 5mg I had a bit more but now that I am at the end of 5mg pen I don't get much side effects anymore. Like nothing I notice. Slightly cold, not freezing. Constipation has worked itself out with the supplements I am taking etc.

I guess see how you feel towards the end of your pen to decide

Hello
So I am struggling. Week one day 4. I've had to take 2 days off work due to gastro issues, obv6i can't do this every week.

Symptoms:

I cannot work with these symptoms. Any advice please?

Can you get your hands on omeprazole or something similar? It sounds like you have dyspepsia
