Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@VinegarTits1 good luck with your weight loss journey. It is hard whatever weight you are starting from. I hope you manage to keep your BMI down below 30 and don’t qualify for the drugs - in theory it is much easier if you don’t gain the weight in the first place - but if years down the line things have got more out of control for you this option will be more established.

stomachamelon · 07/04/2024 20:52

@AgathaMystery that's a genius idea actually :)

stomachamelon · 07/04/2024 20:57

@VinegarTits1 tbh I know about these jabs due to celebs who are definitely not in need of them abusing them to lose even more weight.

You must only just be overweight unless you are under five foot.

As long as you are not abusing them I don't see the issue but you may find (given the criteria eg weight/ photos/ doctor being informed) that they are reluctant to prescribe them.

I wish you well.

Thank you! If you don’t mind me asking, so if 7,5 is out of stock what everyone is doing? Just stay on 5 and don’t increase?
also when I do move to medexpress now do I just say to them that I had my first dose through boots and I do qualify for the 5mg?

I don’t think anyone in uk is on 7.5mg yet. Some stockists are saying it will come in stock later this month so in time for first adopters to move up. There’s no need to move up is 5 mg is working.

I’ve used pharmacy4u twice without issues and am going to carry on as my bmi is under 30 now and don’t want any hassle.

Fattyarse123 · 07/04/2024 18:54

Does starting dose need to be 2.5?

Yes to get body used to it.

Aloe Vera tablets off Amazon have worked perfectly for me. I take every other day.
Also drink lots of water and eat veg/fruit.
If you are eating less and prioritise protein you will 💩 less. The medication is also designed to slow food down through your system.

stomachamelon · 07/04/2024 21:24

@Letsgoogogo I ordered mine straight away. I am not sure if I have done right :/
I did that as I have changed provider and I wanted to allow time to provide extra info etc.

Usernameisnotavailable0 · 07/04/2024 21:26

@Letsgoogogo I personally moved up to 5gm after 1 pens worth of 2.5gm. Even though I was able to loose weight from the get go, by my 3rd 2.5gm injection I could tell it was wearing off and was ready for the step up.

My most recent 5mg was £162.50, I had a discount code both times. I ordered 5mg when I got paid after week 3.

Hello! Also hoping to join the chat. Have found these threads so helpful in preparation for starting Mounjaro. Thanks to everyone posting tips for the newbies!

BMI 34.8, and I would love to lose 4 stone. Took my first dose at 2pm and haven’t eaten since - I can’t believe it!

I take two psyllium husk capsules a day for the fiber and an aloe Vera tablet every day or two days. Also I drink a lot of water! You'll definitely be going to the toilet less though, especially if you eat a lot of protein.

I ordered the 5mg after my 2nd dose of 2.5. It is hidden in the fridge waiting!
2.5 is having a really good effect on me already, but I'm keen to move up to an official therapeutic dose as I have a lot to lose, and I don't want to risk ordering another 2.5 and it not being effective for the second month.

ObsidianTree · 07/04/2024 22:02

For those that recently started on 2.5mg, what is the expiry date on your pens?

Just wondering if pharmacies are going to have stock of 2.5mg they can't sell in a week because they expire end of May!

OP posts:
MammothyGoodness · 07/04/2024 22:02

@PissedOffNeighbour22 im feeling fine today thank you! Think I’d undereaten and it was making me feel ill, so made an effort to eat more today even though I didn’t fancy it.

BlackFriYay · 07/04/2024 22:04

I don't want to jinx myself but the strangest thing has happened. I haven't had a migraine in weeks (im on week 4 of MJ) and I usually have atleast 4 every week. I have a dx of chronic migraine and I'm under the hospital for it, it's that severe.

I don't know if it's the MJ, the amount of water I'm drinking, a coincidence, weight loss or all of the above but wow. I forgot what it's like not to be in pain all of the time. I feel better than I have in years.

ObsidianTree · 07/04/2024 22:07

That's amazing @BlackFriYay. It's crazy how much benefits this medication can have! Hope you continue to be migraine free 🤞

Investinmyself · 07/04/2024 22:11

That’s amazing @BlackFriYay. There’s suggestions it helps with inflammation. Definitely interesting to see what other positive benefits people are reporting.
I definitely feel more well in myself and more energy.

Just wondering if pharmacies are going to have stock of 2.5mg they can't sell in a week because they expire end of May!

The pens marked 05 2024 expire at the end of May don't they? So they can still be sold for three weeks from now.

But I could believe that the producer overestimated how many people would start using it - we aren't generally as big as Americans - and so there is a surplus of 2.5mg and 5mg pens with the pharmacies. Perhaps that's why the 7.5mg keeps being delayed - so we use up all the 5mg pens. Because our pens are different to the US ones so they can't just send them elsewhere.

ObsidianTree · 07/04/2024 22:27

@Choux oh yeah! My maths was way off! So yeah they have to sell them by end of April then! Not mid April!

But yeah, if people are still getting pens that expired end of May, they obviously haven't sold out of the first batch of 2.5mg pens then!

Would be interesting if pharmacies start offering deals to people who want to go up to 7.5mg by combining the 2.5mg and the 5mg!
