Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

I think I ordered my pen with med express when I was halfway through my pen. They accepted the dates etc.

They will probably ask when you started, what dose your on, when you started your current pen. Questions like that.

What dose did you use to get it for £94?

Lovely thank you, I'll maybe try after my 2nd dose then! And it was the BACK-SPRING discount code, but a friend tried it the other day and it wasn't working for her. I added it to my basket about 2 weeks ago when I saw it mentioned and it's still there luckily 😅 (Sorry it's £96 not £94 but still a huge saving)

I asked that too :-)

This was their response. Pic attached.

The reply you got makes no sense as the pens all expire at the same time... So you aren't getting stock with longer expiration date. Also, medexpress can take a long time to approve your order as they ask for more information etc, so bit of a risk waiting!

Medexpress aren’t letting me order my 5mg pen until Tuesday, That will be five days after my third dose of 2.5mg, (which I got from them too), and took the same day I received it.

Would you mind sharing the discount code please?

It was the BACK-SPRING discount code, I'm not sure it's still working but I added it to my basket about 2 weeks ago when I saw it mentioned and it's still there 😅 worth a try though! (£96 not £94 sorry but still huge discount)

Well that’s my second dose gone into my thigh 😀 I weigh tomorrow but wanted to do tonight to hopefully sleep off any side effects! I could also feel some food noise starting to creep in so thought it better to do tonight instead of tomorrow.

I have eaten well today. I have drank well and been to the gym. I didn’t have as much energy today as I did on Tuesday for some reason. All I can do now is wait and see what the scales say in the morning 🤞

@ObsidianTree
I suspect that they're waiting for new stock of the 5mg to arrive that will have a longer expiration date and that's why they're telling people to wait?

I don't know why our dates are so short, on the reddit pages for Zepbound (exactly the same as Mounjaro, just the name they've given it for weight loss rather than diabetes) they have expiration dates of a year sometimes.

I wonder if either:

a) Between bringing out Mounjaro and then bringing out Zepbound (although it's supposed to be exactly the same) they've found a way to make it last longer) or

b) They were going to bring out the multi-dose pens in the US (they have single dose ones but talk of multi-use ones coming) but for some reason they weren't approved or whatever and so they kept them until it got approved here, hence why the dates are short here.

lurkylurk · 11/04/2024 20:50

@LilyDxoxo
When you go to check out it may say that code has expired, if so the best one I've found is BIRTHDAY-BUNNY, used it last week, gave £30 off, not as good but still something.

Choux · 11/04/2024 20:54

As our pens are different to most (all?) other countries it could be they were made a long time ago and then it took longer than expected to get regulatory approval to sell them and so now the expiry dates are short.

lurkylurk · 11/04/2024 20:57

After eating very little yesterday I've had quite a lot today, topped off with lemon sole (which was pan-fried in olive oil already) with a butter sauce that I'm now regretting. I should have had mine with just lemon and capers but was making the sauce for my husband so put it on mine too, too much oil for on Mounjaro!

Lovely thank you! It's letting me go all the way to the payment screen so I'm hoping it will work still 🤞🤞
(I've added vitamins also)

Hmmm last June Mounjaro was rejected for use by diabetics. I bet that is why the weight loss version is called Mounjaro here and not Zepbound like in the US - the pens we are using were probably made months ago with the intention of supplying diabetics. Then they didn't get UK approval so decided to press ahead with the weight loss licence and use the pens for that.

@Flapearedknave did you order from them the first time? They didn't send me one with my second order from them.

Yeah, both orders from them! Got the 15% code apology that's already on thread!

Must have been an error on their side and I hopefully won't get another!

I ordered second pen with them on weds afternoon and it arrived this morning! So they must have upped their game as last pen it took a week!

That's interesting. Is mounjaro still not approved for diabetics in the UK?

I noticed US naming thing. Is it only diabetics on Mounjaro in US? The people I follow on tiktok are on MJ, does that mean they are diabetic? Or did they change the name after people were using it?

OP posts:
lurkylurk · 11/04/2024 21:24

@ObsidianTree
Dont think it is, it was a cost thing that the NHS won’t approve it for that. The other treatments must be cheaper for them.

Choux · 11/04/2024 21:41

Interestingly according to this site if you are taking Mounjaro US which is for Type 2 diabetes (often solved by losing weight) you go up to 5mg and then stay there. You don't go higher than that.

Zepbound US which is for weight loss goes all the way up to 15mg.

I think this explains why supply of 7.5mg Mounjaro UK is delayed. They made tons of 2.5mg and 5mg pens as they were expecting it to be used by diabetics who would never need doses above 5mg.

They've probably been simmering the dug down in huge vats to make it more concentrated and then putting it back into pens!

This makes sense. Maybe why pharmacies are pushing for people to stay on 5mg!

I've been waiting until my account unlocks to be able to test out codes. (I.e. when MedExpress will let me order again)

Anyone who bought from Asda, how long did it take for a response once you'd sent pics?

Mine was same day

ChristmasLightsLover · 11/04/2024 21:55

How is everyone feeling?

I walked 17 miles last week. This week I've only done 4.5 and am thinking about the impact on my weight loss.

I've also eaten chocolate this week which is a bit of a waste of calories really.

I think I need to eat more protein. Will make something new this weekend. What is everyone else cooking at the moment?
