Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

,@RagzRebooted
You made me nearly fall off the bed with the tale of your undercrakers 😀 At least you haven't got an apron to contend with like mine.
Thanks for the stories high and low they have been therapy to me. I am generally a positive person but I have been in total denial and delusion on how bad my situation had become. I have a BMI of over 60 ! Alot of your starting weights is my target weight.! Thank God I am now on this wonder drug MJ. I have lost 6.5kg over a stone on the last 5 weeks I will be taking my 2nd 5mg dose on Tuesday. Its going to be a long slog but I am a bit more positive and at 58 it is a bloody miracle ! Thanks Ladies

FlappyFish · 07/04/2024 07:07

@oaode oh that’s a great start.

Yes, it is a miracle! On the earlier threads we’ve said it feels like witchcraft. If you’ve spent your entire life beating yourself up for the voice in your head saying “eat this, it will make you happy,” been trapped in a never ending cycle of gain, lose, gain, gain some more; magic. I have spent many an hour wondering if this is how “normal” people eat.

I don’t feel weakness and shame now. Shame that my gluttony has been worn as a bloated suit throughout life. I did everything to try and lose weight and always failed. The voice saying eat me and having to resist that every waking hour was too strong.

I am finally doing it and I am so bloody grateful.

WannabeHealthier · 07/04/2024 07:19

So my period arrived yesterday very late (2 weeks) and now I’m in a lot of pain. Never had period pain like this before.

CiderJabs · 07/04/2024 07:55

Glycerine suppositories (chronic constipation sufferer here)

Choux · 07/04/2024 08:09

@CiderJabs more water, more fruit and veg and some strong coffees helped me get my system moving when I was away.

NCfor24 · 07/04/2024 08:14

I finally get round to reading this new thread and already at page 4!
Just placemarking really but still loving the stories and support!

Choux · 07/04/2024 08:17

I have a cold so sent last night on the sofa surfing Reddit ZepboundUK threads. As a result I now have this tracker which quite a few people there are using. You don't need to sign up with an account and you only add your DoB, height and weight.

It's useful to show progress towards a target. I would like to lose 20lb by May 18th when I am seeing some family. I can see that I am a bit behind as almost half the time has gone and I've only lost 35% of the goal. Hopefully now I'm on 5 things will speed up a bit.

It's a big couple of days for me as, if I lose another 0.4 lbs I will be overweight rather than obese and I should soon be in the 170s and not 180s. It's a good boost to motivation.

Choux · 07/04/2024 08:18

Forgot to say it's called Monitor my Weight.

Choux · 07/04/2024 08:41

Apparently Boots users are receiving this email saying that 7.5mg won't be available until AROUND the 29th April.

And even more importantly, if you decide to wait for it and go two weeks without any Mounjaro you will need to start back at 2.5mg. So people need to continue on 5mg if 7.5 is not available.

For people who are really keen to use 7.5mg you could ask prescribers to send both a 2.5mg pen and a 5mg pen and use both each week. With MedExpress that would be £300 (if they will do it) and it seems the 7.5mg pen is around £225 anyway so the cost isn't double the 7.5mg pen.

I’m down just over a stone and last night someone asked if lost weight. It really took me aback, I thought no one would notice a stone!

Congratulations! What was your starting weight? And what did you say about how you have done it? I have told no one I'm even on a diet so far never mind the Mounjaro.

Are you uncomfortable with it? The point of the drug is to slow things down, so this isn't necessarily as bad as it sounds unless you're in pain?
Warm bath, strong coffee, fruit juice, lots of water.
If you're near a pharmacy then you could try and pick up something else to try. Lactulose maybe, or the glycerine suppositories a PP mentioned but they can be a bit nuclear.

Told DH last night - he's very supportive and not at all concerned so glad that's done. He was surprised that I'm obese though, which is funny as my BMI was 35 when I started. He's quite blind to how much weight I put on, he just sees bigger boobs and curves bless him!

NigellaAwesome · 07/04/2024 09:14

Has anyone switched from Ozempic/ wegovy to Mounjaro?

I've been on Wegovy for over a year now. Lost a stone (104kg to 98kg) reasonably quickly but I have plateaued since then. I don't have much of an appetite, try to swim several times a week but I am just stuck.

I'm wondering if a switch would be worth investigating?

plinter · 07/04/2024 09:15

48 hours since my second jab at 2.5 and the only symptom I've had so far is feeling cold.
One thing I do need to do, is serve smaller servings for myself at dinner. For the last 2 nights I've made salad and added protein and pulses, but I cant finish what I'm putting on my plate. I don't even snack on any leftovers later on, which is what I would have done in the past. I need to plan ahead and make less, otherwise I'll be throwing food away.

A tablespoon of syrup of figs has never let me down!

stomachamelon · 07/04/2024 09:28

@Rainbowl @CiderJabs in my university days it used to be 10 Marlboro red and a vat of coffee. Perhaps that might work? :)

Moanranger · 07/04/2024 09:38

So this is what I have to contend with- my partner is a borderline diabetic who has successfully controlled it by losing weight. He knows how much I struggle to lose (at least I think he does?)
This morning he returned from shops & announced he had two croissants warming in the oven!
I not so gently explained to him I am focussing on maximising protein, so no thanks to a croissant. Then had cottage cheese, smoked salmon & half a protein bar. He is sulking.
He is a feeder, it’s a trial🙁

I understand how you feel
I dont live with my partner and at the weekends he arrives with a Massive Bag of lay crisps which I eat on my own and a massive cream cake from morrisons. He knows I love both.

I need to tell him I am focusing on protein too!

What bars do you like? I bought a 25 g protein grahams yog drink yesterday in home b as I hadn't eaten a lot.

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 07/04/2024 09:57

Morning! I've just noticed something. I haven't really wanted anything sweet in a week or so, and I haven't had anything sweet. Normally I'd have something sweet every day at least once! I haven't even thought about the fact I haven't had anything, because I obviously just don't think about eating sugar at all. Does that make sense? This is the food noise magic of the injections.

@NigellaAwesome I think there are some posters who switched - my brain is like a sieve and I can't remember their names though.

Rainbowl · 06/04/2024 22:41

Feeling a bit strange tonight. This is day nine for me (I think).

I am clearly responding well to the drug, over 7lbs down, no binging. I have been feeling amazing. But this evening I just feel a bit flat about it all. I can’t put my finger on exactly what it is that’s bothering me either.

Not really sure what the point of this post is but just wanted to let it out!

I did feel that a bit in my first few weeks I think. Just feeling down for no particular reason. But it passed quickly and I've not had it again.

@stealtheatingtunnocks aw, that’s lovely.
@CiderJabs I feel your pain. I am in no way regular now and it’s about every three days, only managing that due to the build up of laxatives I think. I’m taking the aloe tablets too now.
@WannabeHealthier i started a day late and each period has been painful.
@Moanranger that’s really tough. Good on you for maintaining your boundaries with it.

FlappyFish · 07/04/2024 10:03

@Choux I’m using the free part of my fitness pal. I am saving photos there too. This goes back donkey’s, but it helps me see the fluctuations of period.

Does anyone know how much the higher doses are going to be on MedExpress? I'm looking to see who to switch to from Voy and the other sites show how much the higher doses cost even if they don't have them in yet, but MedExpress only shows the price of 2.5mg and 5mg. Does anyone using them have any more information?
Also, have they said anything about future availability of 7.5mg?
TIA
