Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

Yes , but nothing deep - I just want to start Monday morning so it's easier/neater.

Once I signed up I got an email asking me to add my weight and choose my coach.

MammothyGoodness · 06/04/2024 18:54

Just after some side effects advice please. I’ve done my fourth injection yesterday and had no side effects at all so far except being cold. Today I am so cold I'm dithering. Can’t get warm, in a oodie with the heating blasting and an electric blanket and can’t get warm. I also feel really rough, lightheaded and sick. I couldn’t face breakfast and forced myself to have scrambled eggs on toast for lunch (my usual lunch at the moment so nothing new). I just feel awful. Has anyone had this?

Can anyone tell me the amount left in the 2.5 mg pen that you can use for a fifth dose? Has anyone measured this?
I haven't used any to prime & I've just managed to stab myself 5 × in order to use this final amount. But I can't find any information anywhere as to how much this extra amount is? It feels like more than the 2.5 mg dose.

I got out 1.05mls which is about 1.75 doses, or 4.4mg.

Much more than I expected.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 06/04/2024 19:18

@MammothyGoodness if you read the first post, number 6 advises common side effects and contains a link.

MammothyGoodness · 06/04/2024 19:32

@PissedOffNeighbour22 i have read it, I just meant to suddenly start getting them after weeks of being fine :) thanks

KeepingUndercover · 06/04/2024 19:34

Is it maybe just a coincidence @MammothyGoodness and you're coming down with something?

Moanranger · 06/04/2024 19:35

After last night’s fraught experience with the pen, I am not sure I am up for wrestling an extra dose out. The pen seems awkward/sticky or something & I have to press really hard to get any action.
First day on second dose & appetite has returned somewhat. I hope it reduces over the week or I am going to struggle.

If the pen was awkward and sticky on only your second dose, personally I'd be contacting your provider and asking them to replace it.

We're paying too much for this to be arsing around with things that don't work!

Theinfamousfive · 06/04/2024 19:49

Is there a reason the extra fifth dose can’t be given directly from the pen like the other doses? Why is the liquid there if not to be used?

I believe the extra is there to allow for 'priming' the pen before each dose.

Rainbowl · 06/04/2024 20:20

Just checking in and catching up. Thanks @ObsidianTree for the new thread!

Huge congratulations! @CiderJabs 🥂

48 hours since my second dose of 2.5mg. No side effects. I can eat but not really thinking about food. Had a social meal with extended family this evening and missed my full signal, so now I feel like I’ve eaten a banquet.

That is a sad, but very good motivation. I’m similar- my close loved ones currently have cancer (one died) and none of them are overweight - all very healthy. I feel guilty it’s not me and am determined to get into a healthy BMI to reduce my cancer risk.

Bit of a strange way of looking at it, but it has really given me a kick up the arse to sort myself out! I want it to be healthy and sustainable- so willing to go slowly if that’s what it takes.

It's there for priming the pen so unless you measure it you don't know if it's a full dose which is why the pen isn't sold as 5 doses, but most people finding it works!

Congratulations @CiderJabs 🥂🥂

Well well. I’ve just annoyed OH because I made him cook dinner for once and I couldn’t eat much more than half of it. I’m on just under 600 calories for the day so I need to up them a bit before I go to bed. Hopefully my painful skin will be gone in the morning…thankfully most of the other side effects I’ve had today have disappeared. I really hope they’re not as bad after the next dose 🤞

Feeling a bit strange tonight. This is day nine for me (I think).

I am clearly responding well to the drug, over 7lbs down, no binging. I have been feeling amazing. But this evening I just feel a bit flat about it all. I can’t put my finger on exactly what it is that’s bothering me either.

Not really sure what the point of this post is but just wanted to let it out!

EsotericMnemonic · 06/04/2024 22:56

@ObsidianTree thanks for the new thread and FAQs post, very helpful for anyone starting out.
@MammothyGoodness side effects can happen at any time. Some weeks I’ve had them, some weeks I haven’t. The first week was definitely the worst. I’ve also heard that you may experience different side effects with different strengths. I felt very cold for the first 2-3 weeks, but that seems to have resolved.
Something that’s really helped with the nausea is preparing my body for the jab. Obviously by day 7 I can eat more, but I’m now very careful to have two light meals and finish eating in plenty of time before the jab (ie dinner at 5:30, jab at 10:30/11). This means there’s less in my body when the full strength of the drug hits.
It’s really worth tracking injection site and side effects too, this video explains it. Of course, the site that absorbs the drug best for you will also probably be the site that results in most side effects.

An interesting article here, that reinforces the advice to concentrate on protein intake (but also particularly calcium to prevent bone loss) and making sure you're getting enough nutrients in general.

Femeia · 07/04/2024 00:10

Is anyone else thinking they will need to order another 5mg pen rather than go up to 7.5mg as planned? It's very frustrating not tobe able to increase the dose, especially as I don't really feel much effect yet.

MelissaLouRocks · 07/04/2024 00:27

I've just been watching an interesting video by a Canadian doctor. He said you will only get the full effects of a dose after the third injection, as that is how long it takes to build up in your body.

So anyone doubting what they should do who is only on jab 1 or 2 of a dose, should perhaps wait to see how they respond to the third before deciding.

Just thought it may be helpful, as I've seen lots worrying what they'll do as the 7.5mg release is delayed.

The other interesting thing was he stated this seems to be far more effective at lower doses for people than Ozempic and Wegovy, so much so that many remain on lower doses of say 7.5 and 10 whilst still successfully losing.

Thebaldprimadonna · 07/04/2024 05:26

I am suffering from samosa regret! A friend came over on Friday eve and didn't want to eat when we'd planned. I ended up eating a couple of samosas at 9pm as I was really hungry (not what I'd planned to have).

I woke up in the middle of the night on Friday with a horrible acid stomach and yesterday I just had no appetite. I thought I'd feel better today but I still feel a bit poisoned 🙁
