Continuing Mounjaro...part 4

Welcome to thread 4!

Pointers for newbies:
1 - For taking your first dose you need to twist the pen a lot to get to 1!

2 - Your first dose may not have an immediate effect. For some people the effects build slowly. It could take 3 or 4 days to notice anything, it could take a few weeks. Some people don't feel the meds working until they get to 5mg. See titration chart which shows how the medication builds up in your system.

3 - 2.5mg isn't a therapeutic dose, meaning you aren’t meant to lose on 2.5mg. You need to start on 2.5mg to get your body used to the drug and gradually introduce it into your system and get used to any side effects.

4 - Not everyone loses a lot in the first few weeks. Don't feel discouraged if you don't lose a lot initially. Again, you might need a higher dose to start losing. Also, inches can be lost without anything showing on the scales. Start your journey by taking measurements and check them as you go along.

5 - If you do lose a lot in the first few weeks, please don't assume you will continue losing at this rate. The first few weeks it is usually water weight that is lost, after than a good weight loss is about 2lbs a week. Some weeks you might not lose anything, but this is ok too…again, taking measurements might show inches lost instead.

6 - Constipation, coldness, nausea, diarrhea, headaches, aches, are side effects. There may be be other side effects also. Read info here :
www.medicines.org.uk/emc/files/pil.14201.pdf

7 - Once you take your first dose you can choose to keep your pen in the fridge or somewhere else. It's up to you.

8 - Don't reuse any needles as this could risk infection. If you damage a needle or one isn't working, you can buy a pack of about 100 spares. Ask for suggestions of sites /types to buy.

9 - Protein is important as eating less protein can cause muscle wastage and hair loss. Try to have at least 100g a day. There are protein supplements you can take. Myprotein have a good range. Ask for a referral code if you want to buy some.

10 - Some natural sources of protein:
www.bbcgoodfood.com/howto/guide/best-sources-protein
www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/321522#high-protein-foods

11 - You can use supplements, some that people use are magnesium(for sleep and constipation), protein(to reduce muscle wastage), collagen (skin elasticity), aloe vera(for constipation), electrolytes.

12 - Drink lota of water. Water helps with the weight loss. Drink at least 2ltrs a day. Preferably 3ltrs.

13 - Don't be afraid to feel hungry. It is entirely normal and healthy to feel hungry. Just eat something. Treat it as an opportunity to start good habits around hunger. Eat a nice balanced snack or a meal if it's a meal time. It's ok.

14 - Some of the places you can order from are:
MedExpress £149.99 - Sometimes there are codes that can be used for a discount. Ask for a code on here or do a Google search to try and find one.
Voy - £114.99 for first month then £229 after. Need a referral code (ask on here for one if needed)
The Family Chemist -£149
Simple online pharmacy - £159 2.5mg £179 for 5mg
Asda £184
Boots £219

15 - Does it makes any difference where you inject? yes it does! Drugs get absorbed at different rates depending on injection site

In order of fastest absorption, it goes:
• Tummy
• Arms
• Thighs
further reading about injection sites and the effects: www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/316618

16 - You can track your calories / protein on apps such as My fitnessPal, Carb Manager or Nutracheck. Nutracheck is quite useful and easy to find foods /build recipes.

17 - If you want to switch suppliers, make sure you have pics of your Mounjaro box with your name and dose. This will come in useful when other suppliers ask for evidence.

@NNSingers yes I lost 50lb on Keto about 7 years ago, I responded really well to it. However, at the moment it's much harder to fit into my lifestyle as I'm having to feed kids when I get in from work and cooking 2 dinners is more than I can keep up consistently at the moment. DH works away and we're planning a big move in the summer so a lot of things taking up headspace and I just don't have room in my life for constant food prep and decision making. I was quite obsessed with food while doing keto.l, but had more time to cook and meal plan.
Also, unless you do keto for life it doesn't help with maintenance. It's very restrictive.

On MJ, I can just eat smaller portions and have pretty much what everyone else is eating which is a lot easier and probably more sensible long term. I just make sure I'm getting enough protein and some veg.

Yes Keto was all consuming for me, I had to think ahead for all meals, look ahead at menus when we were going out to eat. In the end I got used to it and it was a way of life which did suit me at the time. I did try keto again after Christmas and lost 4lb in the first week but then just could not stick to it for some reason at all. Anyway, so far the way I feel on MJ is similar to how o felt when I was in the throes of ketosis a few years back and that was a good feeling! Long may it continue. Good lunch with your journey, it sounds like you have a big and exciting year ahead!x

Investinmyself · 07/04/2024 13:22

@guestusername It should settle as your body gets used to it. Try drinking lots of water and bland food.

EsotericMnemonic · 07/04/2024 13:25

@guestusername not at all, I thought I’d made a dreadful mistake and wasted £180 after my first dose. I’m now 1 st 3 lbs down after less than 5 weeks though and it’s been relatively painless since.

Wasitalwaysgoingtobelikethis · 07/04/2024 14:02

Please could I have a code for Medexpress? All these amazing stories are giving me hope!

Moanranger · 07/04/2024 14:20

SunshineandRainbows I get Lidl High protein bars. Pleasant, not moreish, a bit chewy. I have just tried Aldi’s Harvest Morn peanut butter 21g protein bars, but I do not like these.
I try to limit HPF/UPF intake & get my nutrition from normal foods, but these are useful in a pinch. I completed a 6.5 hill walk after breakfast so wanted to ensure I had sufficient calories/protein for the task.

Birthday-Bunny worked for me a few hours ago. Gave me £30 off. Lucky25 didn't work

Wasitalwaysgoingtobelikethis · 07/04/2024 15:24

Lucky25 didn’t work for me. Birthday bunny did. I have just put in my order

chuffoff · 07/04/2024 15:26

After ordering last week and then getting cold feet and cancelling, I have finally properly ordered and will be starting on my journey at some point this week hopefully.

Is anyone else here is on daily omeprazole/lansoprazole? I take it daily to manage symptoms of reflux and it's doing the job for me but I'd be interested to to hear if anyone has had to up their dose or if mounjaro has interfered with it in any way?

Twwodoorsaway · 07/04/2024 15:34

I’m tagging on to this thread as I’ve been on Ozempic/Wegovy for just over a year. It’s been great and I’ve lost about 24kg but it has been very slow since Christmas and I know I’m not feeling the effect as much now. My BMI is down to 37 from about 45 but therefore still a very long way to go. So I’ve just ordered my first Mounjaro 2.5mg to see if it helps ( and hopefully go up to 5mg next month). Good to hear success stories here.

ObsidianTree · 07/04/2024 15:52

Great. Thanks for letting us know @chuffoff and @Wasitalwaysgoingtobelikethis

I need to reorder mid April so good to know the codes that work etc.

Hi, I'm on lanzoprazole. When I take it, I have no reflux symptoms at all. When I didn't take it for a couple of days last week I did get heartburn.
Before mounjaro, I could get away with taking lanzoprazole every other day or two, but I want to wait until I'm used to it a bit more before trying this again. When I got heartburn last week, I just took some gaviscon and it sorted it out.
I have checked to see if there are any issues with taking mounjaro and lanzoprazole together and there isn't.

Ironinglady2024 · 07/04/2024 17:25

@chuffoff @JanetSnakeholeMacklin i am also on Lansoprazole, away to do my first MJ.
I am not religious at taking it everyday, I was think I will need too on MJ to help if reflux is one of the symptoms.

JanetSnakeholeMacklin · 07/04/2024 17:33

@chuffoff @Ironinglady2024

Good luck! Building up to taking the first dose is the hardest part!

@JanetSnakeholeMacklin i had planned to take today but everyone is home and not had any peace. Will be a doddle to do I am sure after my first one but want to take my time on my first one. I am worried about the prepping of it and getting it right.

They probably won't review it until tomorrow, unless they said they do 7 days a week.

CiderJabs · 07/04/2024 18:38

Thanks for all the advice on constipation!
I've loaded up on veg at dinner and also had fig compote / prunes for dessert. Taking a second lot of senna tonight and hope it doesn't have toooo much of an effect!

Feeling quite bloated but have drank gallons of water which has helped. Send me toilet vibes 💪

Sabblue · 07/04/2024 18:42

Hi all! Im starting my journey as well. Just collected my 1st pen and although I’m exited to start so sad as I think I overpaid so much! 😢 i wanted to ensure its proper pharmacy as was scared it will be fake, lloyds pharmacy was sold out last week so ordered from boots and paid £219 and I can see I could get it for at least £150!
so could you please let me know where is the best place to order?
and if one place says there is no stock can you just order from different? Thank you!

stomachamelon · 07/04/2024 18:46

@Sabblue I ordered my first (2.5mg) from voy with a voucher (about £125) and have just ordered my second (5mg) from Medexpress with a voucher from here (about £130)
It's worth shopping about.

ObsidianTree · 07/04/2024 18:48

@Sabblue I think MedExpress works out good value as their prices are lower than other places and they often have voucher codes that you can use each month to save some money. When you're ready for your second pen you can sign up with medexpress and get the higher dose. Just look on here or Google search for codes when ready to order.
